  1. 1. What is the current Race/Gender of your Main Character? (Please choose only one race and one gender)

So we're one month into release and we've all settled into our characters pretty well. Some of us have alts, others have re rolled but everyone is discovering their own unique voice.

So let's demolish that and figure what the most and least popular races are!

There was a similar survey posted during the beta stages of the game, and gave a good idea of how the community was feeling before release. I believe it's only fair we start another to see how the community has swayed post-release, especially with the explosive rise in forum population.

Why?

Because I love numbers.

Please only answer for your main RP character!

>Has your character changed from beta/release?

During Beta I changed her a lot, I toyed with the idea of a single eye color then started working with multi-colored eyes, different hairstyles and color combinations. Skin tones were also very changeable. Heck at one point in beta I actually considered making her a Seeker but it just didn't fit what I envisioned her to be.

From beta to release however? Nope. Still the same.

I didn't really have any expectations as I wasn't engaged in the Beta RP community. However from years past I can say the community so far is the best I've come across. It's very supportive and appears to be open to ideas which is essential for a healthy community to thrive and grow.

Not really, I had it planned out during the beta. Appearance changed slightly.

Didn't have any expectations in mind to be honest. Never tried really playing on a RP server so I wasn't 100% sure what I was getting into. ^^;

Yep. I went from being a female Roegadyn who would have basically been a carbon copy of my precious WoW baby, to a wonderful little lalafell who is something a little different. Don't regret it at all.

Have your expectations out of the RP community changed?

Not really, I guess. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect as the last RP community I was actively participating in was probably with WoW several years ago, so it was a bit odd getting back into the swing of things. However there's been nothing but rad people who have made me feel very welcome and comfortable. So hooray!

Wow, I didn't expect the turn out this survey has gotten. It's been over a week so I'd like to go over the results so far:

Our male to female ratio of characters are nearly even, though I believe some people didn't actually put anything down for their gender. To bad, but it's always good to have a balance of the genders in RP.

Now for the races:

It's no surprise that the Mi'qote lead the races. They've been very popular for a long time and still attract players consistently. What is surprising is that the Seekers of the Sun heavily outweigh the Keepers. In fact if you combine the Seekers and Keepers they outnumber all the other races, excluding Midlander, COMBINED.

Midlanders are the next popular, only trailing by 3 votes behind the Keepers. It's no surprise, human characters are often popular in MMOs. What is interesting is that the other human race, the Highlanders are trailing significantly behind the Midlanders. They are still more popular than the other races, but there is a definite difference between the two populations.

The Elezen are next with the Duskwright behind just 2 votes ahead of the Wildwood. This isn't terribly shocking given how polarizing their appearances can be.

Next we have the Plainsfolk and Dunesfolk. Again, the Lalafel tend to be polarizing given their child like natures. However, the Dunesfolk heavily outnumber the Plainsfolk. Apparently greed is important!

Finally we have the Roes. There are a few interesting tidbits out of the Roes. While the other races are fairly balanced between the races, there is only a single Seawolf compared to 7 Hellsguard. Further, the females of the Roe outnumber the males 2 to 1. Long live muscle girls!

I'll be leaving this poll open for a few more weeks to hopefully get some more results. Feel free to leave your own thoughts on the survey so far!

Has your character changed from beta/release?

Yeah, quite a lot actually! During the beta, I had actually had my mind set on playing a Plainsfolk Lalafell, and juggled between Plainsfolk and Dunesfolk during each phase. I liked the eyes of the Dunesfolk Lalafell more than Plainsfolk, as well as their earring options. But at release, since I was unable to create my character right off the bat, I ended up experimenting a lot with characters, and even considered Miqo'te for a while. In the end decided on Elezen as I just felt it fit both for me to be playing and for the character concept I had in mind.

Have your expectations out of the RP community changed?

Not really. I've been involved in several role play communities in the past, most recently being the WoW RP community and TERA Online for a short time, and I'm always really happy to see a prominent community on games that I enjoy playing, since it means another way for me to meet new friends, as well as enjoy the game with those friends.

More than anything, as an FFXI player where roleplay was never very prominent, I'm happy to see that roleplayers have really come out of the woodwork in FFXIV.

Highlander Female here.

Has your character changed from beta/release?

-- Yes, twice. Originally I was going to play a quiet, introverted midlander who went to Gridania to learn how to be a conjurer. That character idea lasted through Beta 3. In Beta 4, I played a Wildwood elezen Thaumaturge/Archer (the archer portion carried over into the first 2 weeks of release).

Ultimately, I went with Katja, my highlander conjurer/weaver who is not at all quet or introverted.

Have your expectations out of the RP community changed?

-- I'm not really sure. The only people from this community that I've met in game have been through the Balmung's Finest linkshell. I'd like to meet more of you all for RP.

As my character is still technically only a few days old, no.

But in a way, yes.  I'd had a plan since long before beta and release, a particular character that was to be a slight shifting of an existing character that I have played in the past.  But through further research (and, curiously enough, some of the customization options at character creation), she's not 100% the character I had initially planned for.

Have your expectations out of the RP community changed?

Yes, but not in a bad way!  I didn't expect there to be such a sizable community, nor did I expect it to be quite as diverse as I've found it to be so far.  I honestly expected to have to search for RP and coordinate to get together at specific times, but I've seen plenty in passing as I've oriented myself to the game and started along on my quests.

Highlander Male - Baer

Now has he changed since release/beta?

No not really, he's still himself. How I originally made him. Had some new stuff happen to him, but nothin's changed...yet.

Nope. Not at all. Just am surprised at how many people rolled Miqo'te and making me feel out of place as a Hyur. >_> So many cat's....

A bit, changed the hair and eye color slightly.

Have your expectations out of the RP community changed?

Not at all, I wish we could all get together more. But the realm is young in a sense and I am blown away by the activity and all the effort people put into this site and the community.

To agree with the statement above. Way to many cats. Male Mi'qote are supposed to be rare. Instead of Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn it's Thunder, thunder, thunder, thunder.... CATS!

Has your character changed since Beta?

Well... let me put it this way. My character hasn't changed since the 1.0 days. I had actually thought about changing some of her appearance features but then I saw her and said, "Nope. She's perfect."

...I might have adjusted her cleavage, though. :3;

Has my expectations for RP changed?

I'm not going to get into it, but the point that I will say is that my previous RP experiences with the part of the RP community wasn't as good as I would have liked. One of the things that I am trying to find is a smaller part of the community and moving my way up from there (less large-group events, more smaller, three-to-six sized ones). I've been taking it slow and have only recently decided to pick up a stake in the forums to introduce myself to the community at large.

Loki is pretty much exactly as I envisioned her in Beta, just a bit more talkative than I expected.

ARMI on the other hand is completely different than how I imagined her originally. In her first non-Skype in-game event, at the last minute I took the awkward unsocial girl persona and ran with it and started doing it in a more humorous way and IT WORKED. I was shocked. People seem to really love her (The word "Adorable" has been thrown around a lot  ) and I enjoy playing her much much more than I did my original plan for her.

Have your expectations out of the RP community changed?

They changed for the better! I honestly wasn't expecting much when I got in, maybe mostly sticking to my FC and that would be it. But I have found some really great people in game who aren't in my FC to RP with. Armi and Loki have completely different social circles and it's really fun to see and everyone is so open to RP and it's a lot of fun.
