Magellan Posted November 13, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2013 How do you all set prices ICly for services rendered and trade goods? Do you act like 1 gil = $1? Or maybe 100 gil= $1? Link to comment
Olofantur Posted November 13, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 13, 2013 How do you all set prices ICly for services rendered and trade goods? Do you act like 1 gil = $1? Or maybe 100 gil= $1? I presume 1 gil is worth 1-0.5USD, mostly because foodstuffs and reagents can be in the realm of 4-20 (from the culinarian supplier for example.) But thats just me. Link to comment
K'nahli Posted November 13, 2013 Share #3 Posted November 13, 2013 Ahh I hate this. Whenever people asked me how much something was I just said: "*Informs Magellan as to the price*" >.> Link to comment
Ildur Posted November 13, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 13, 2013 I wouldn't follow NPC prices as the 'real' prices of the Eorzean economy, because those prices are thought to balance the in-game economy, not for lore accuracy. Using K'nahli's method (being vague or letting it be on the air) seems the most rational choice, to me. Since the game has no actual lore about the value of gil (remember: prices are balanced towards gameplay), it would be very easy to run into people claiming that your prices are really cheap/expensive because they don't line up with their particular microcanon economy. Magellan Posted November 13, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted November 13, 2013 Thanks all. I too like K'nahli's method, and will use it more often! Link to comment
K'nahli Posted November 13, 2013 Share #6 Posted November 13, 2013 Oh... I felt silly for saying such a thing but I genuinely had no idea how gil valued in-game. I'm glad no-one made fun of me then =w= ;;; Link to comment
Maril Posted November 13, 2013 Share #7 Posted November 13, 2013 I usually refrain from letting my character take a stance on if something is expensive or cheap when presented with a price, unless it's described as being either, since the field is headache-inducing to figure out. And when ever I emote for money, I tend to never be precise and rather go /em hands xx some gil That way I find that there's less confusion on it all Link to comment
