Dat Oni Posted November 14, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2013 As I discovered, the Lightning event can be a little confusing. So, here's a guide to help out. Chapter 1: For the Winsome Required Level: 12 or above Quest Prerequisites: None Quest Location: Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks - Peter Winsome http://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/lds/pc/global/images/special/2013/lightning_strikes/map_01.png?1384252895[/img] Listen up, here is how it works! Go down to the area shown on the map above and talk to our good friend Peter Winsome, who seems to be a fan of those flashy Post-Calamity tights. After talking to him, your mission is now to seek out one of several FATES, in which Lightning will periodically appear, and gather an otherworldly parcel. The one I've been doing is in Middle La Noscea (15,12) called Sister Crustacean, which spawns a shitload of giant enemy crabs. Here's the trick: if Lightning does not appear in the FATE, you will not earn any parcels from completing the FATE. You will know Lightning is there if you listen to the music (it'll play the battle theme from FFXIII), and the Font for the messages will be the same as in FFXIII. Lightning might also say a few things. If Lightning -is- there, your job is to score a Gold on the FATE. Scoring Gold will net you two Otherworldly Parcels. Return to our friend Peter Winsome, and hand in one of the parcels. This will net you the Event gloves. You will notice there is a vendor next to Winsome. This vendor trades Otherworldly Parcels for Event weapons. If you got Gold on the event, you should have 1 Parcel remaining (you have to give one up to Winsome), so there's your first weapon. You can then go back to the FATE and grind for more parcels, if you wish, and grab every single weapon (which is what I'm doing right now~). Just know the grinding process is bullshit, and remember that Lightning doesn't appear every time the FATE pops. FATEs Where Lightning Appears: *"Sister Crustacean", Middle La Noscea (15,12) *"Tender Buttons", Western La Noscea (32, 38) Chapter 2: Seeking the Scoop Required Level: 26 or above Quest Prerequisites: Complete "For the Winsome" Quest Location: Uldah, Steps of Nald - Dural Tharal http://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/lds/pc/global/images/special/2013/lightning_strikes/map_02.png?1384252895[/img] Our next stop is at Ul'Dah. Head to the location marked on the map and speak to the Lalafell Dural Tharal to learn that Lightning has been spotted in Thanalan. And not just that, but apparently, she's going after some kind of "Nightmare-Inducing Beast." Joy. Unlike the last quest which had you going to two normal FATEs and praying Lightning would show up, we're actually looking for a FATE exclusive to this event, called "Lightning Strikes - Armored Beast." FATE Locations: *Eastern Thanalan (28, 16) *Southern Thanalan (20, 11) Once you reach your destination, you'll have to play the waiting game. Everyone I talked to has no idea what the timers are on this FATE, so expect to be left in the dark until suddenly-WHAM! Like before, your goal here is to score a Gold rating. This is ridiculously easy, as Armored Beast will quickly get swarmed by the bee-hive of players that have been camping his spawn location for close to an hour. No threat whatsoever. After completing the FATE, Lightning will get all cryptic on us and mention how she should have disappeared after that fight. Then she'll opt to chill out for a little bit. This isn't really important, but if you're interested in the lore of this event, I'd be paying attention. Anyways, return to Ul'Dah and hand over the Strange Otherworldly Parcel you obtained. And inside is none other than your new pair of Event Pants/Skirt. Ah the gift of pants... Quest complete! Tune in next time for Quest 3! Chapter 3: The Knight's Passage Required Level: 38 or above Quest Prerequisites: Complete "Seeking the Scoop" Quest Location: Old Gridania - Kipih Jakkya http://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/lds/pc/global/images/special/2013/lightning_strikes/map_03.png?1384252895[/img] Proceed to the location marked on the map and speak with Kipih Jakkya, yet another reporter dying to learn about our Gunblade-toting friend. Once more we must throw ourselves into the wild to gather evidence. Today, we'll be heading to Coerthas, to help Lightning in another FATE distinct to this event, called Lightning Strikes - Dead on Arrival. Fate Locations: *Coerthas Central Highlands(15, 20) *Coerthas Central Highlands (31, 7) After waiting a bit, an automaton by the name of The Clockwork Dreadnought will rear its ugly head. This guy is a big'n, and on top of that, he casts Stoneshield, prolonging the fight, and allowing more players to join in before he inevitably kicks the bucket. Aside from this, nothing too spectacular about this guy, save that he's level 38 and therefore beefier than the Armored Beast. After defeating him and getting a Gold ranking, you'll receive a Simple Otherworldly Parcel. Upon turning it in to Kipih Jakkya, you'll get a cutscene with more exposition. Afterwards, you'll receive your pair of Event boots. That's all for now. Tune in next time when we tackle the last quest of the event! Chapter 4: Wonder and Lightning Required Level: 45 or above Quest Prerequisites: Complete "The Knight's Passage" Quest Location: Old Gridania - Kipih Jakkya http://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/lds/pc/global/images/special/2013/lightning_strikes/map_04.png?1384252895[/img] Here it is folks. The last quest. Once more, head to Kipih Jakkya to start the quest. This time, we're heading to Mor Dhona to look for our event-specific FATE: Lightning Strikes -Anubys Assault. Also, you may want to pay attention to what Kipih says: it explains some things in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Fate Locations: *Mor Dhona (26, 12) *Mor Dhona (33, 11) Not much to this one. A bunch of Anubys (Anubei? Anubyses?) spawn and you have to slaughter the lot of them. Nothing too difficult, and fittingly so, as they're not the real challenge. After defeating the Anubys horde, Lightning will speak a few lines, and another FATE will begin: On Wings of Chaos. Anyone who has played FFXIII-2 will know just from the name what this means we're fighting. We meet again, Chaos Bahamut. Never fear, though, as Lightning's response to this intimidating beast is to summon her Eidolon, Odin! That's right, you're fighting Bahamut next to Lightning and Odin. Can it possibly get any more badass? Aspect of Chaos/Chaos Bahamut is nothing more than a sack of meat you beat the juice out of. He has a few AoEs, but if you have even so much as 1 healer, you'll be fine simply standing still and firing off attacks. A Gold rating is pretty much guaranteed. Upon beating the event you will receive a Stunning Otherworldly Parcel. Return to Kipih and you'll be granted another expository cutscene, and of course, your last piece of Event armor. Congratulations! You've finished the Event! Time to celebrate! And remember, you have until 12/9 to complete all 4 quests, so if you haven't done so, get to it. You have absolutely nothing to lose! FAQ: Can I still get parcels if I complete the first quest? Yes. You can go back and grind for more parcels. Can I still complete the first quest when the second quest is unlocked? Yes. You can even wait until the fourth quest unlocks to do the entire questline. Just know you have until 12/9 to complete the quests, as that's when the event ends. How many weapons can I get? All of them. Yes, really. 1 Link to comment
AvaZope Posted November 14, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 14, 2013 Thanks for the guide! Quick question though: I probably won't be 46+ by the time the event ends, for a few reasons. Can I still get the weapons, though? (Mainly the gun blade...) Link to comment

S'anhu Posted November 14, 2013 Share #5 Posted November 14, 2013 What other FATEs drop Parcels in Quest 1? The only FATE I know of that drops Parcels is Sister Crustacean in Middle La Noscea (15,12). If anyone knows what the other FATEs are, please post them on this thread I've also heard (haven't been in-game today) that this FATE here will also award parcels. It's the one where you fight a big Dodo. EDIT: The name's Tender Buttons. Link to comment
Dat Oni Posted November 14, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted November 14, 2013 Thanks man. Updated. Link to comment
Brave Posted November 14, 2013 Share #7 Posted November 14, 2013 Well I've got all but three of the weapons now. Thanks for making this guide! It definitely saved me the trouble of running around trying to find which FATE had Lightning in it. Link to comment
Siha Posted November 15, 2013 Share #8 Posted November 15, 2013 Question, is anyone else using a PS3 and is it lagging horribly bad despite having an excellent connection? Like to the point where you can't get gold because you can't fight any of the enemies. Link to comment
ansemaru Posted November 15, 2013 Share #9 Posted November 15, 2013 I just tried to participate in the FATE and it crashed my game. I don't think I'll be able to get gold this early on, unless the crowd seriously thins out. Link to comment
Dat Oni Posted November 15, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted November 15, 2013 Well I've got all but three of the weapons now. Thanks for making this guide! It definitely saved me the trouble of running around trying to find which FATE had Lightning in it. You are welcome, sir! Stay tuned for further updates as the event continues. Question, is anyone else using a PS3 and is it lagging horribly bad despite having an excellent connection? Like to the point where you can't get gold because you can't fight any of the enemies. I just tried to participate in the FATE and it crashed my game. I don't think I'll be able to get gold this early on, unless the crowd seriously thins out. I've gone through some serious lag on the FATEs themselves because there's usually a hundred or so people at each site, standing, waiting, and I'm using a PC! Honestly, I just think it's because of how much shit is going on at once when the FATE kicks in! I had to deal with game crashes as well, but I still managed to get enough Parcels to get all the weapons. I'd suggest turning off effects from other users. Hell, turn off most of the display if you have to. I don't know for sure how much it'll help, but it's a start, I guess... Link to comment
AvaZope Posted November 15, 2013 Share #11 Posted November 15, 2013 Is it possible to get gold and not get anything? because that's happened twice for me. The music changes, the font is different and silver, and I got gold credit both times but no parcels. Link to comment
Dat Oni Posted November 15, 2013 Author Share #12 Posted November 15, 2013 Is it possible to get gold and not get anything? because that's happened twice for me. The music changes, the font is different and silver, and I got gold credit both times but no parcels. That's...I don't know. I've never heard of that happening. Every time I got gold rank when Lightning showed I received 2 Parcels. Same for everyone who I worked with. The only time they didn't get anything is when they didn't qualify for a rating e.g. didn't kill anything. I'm stumped. :? Have you initiated the first quest of the event? It may be that you need to start that quest before the FATEs drop Parcels, but given that was not the case in past events, I'm probably horribly wrong. Link to comment
AvaZope Posted November 15, 2013 Share #13 Posted November 15, 2013 Yeah, I've done everything I should up until the actual fate part. The last one she actually appeared and talked AND I was in a group AND still nothing. I did have a game crash on 3 out of the 4 times I've attempted it, so that may be it. I always crash at the end. I went from the crabs to the dodo boss, maybe changing the fate will help. Link to comment
Dat Oni Posted November 15, 2013 Author Share #14 Posted November 15, 2013 Make sure to double-check your inventory. If you crash at the end of the FATE, sometimes you'll still get the rewards when you log back in. This happened to me about 3 times, and each time I got my Parcels regardless of the crashing. AvaZope Posted November 15, 2013 Share #15 Posted November 15, 2013 Yeah, I checked bags, special items for quests, currency...nothing. But we'll see if dodo boy makes any difference. I'm just not lucky today, I suppose. Cut my hand in the shop, burned my same hand hanging lights, got in a fender bender, and now no parcels. Thor is mad at me, clearly. Link to comment

Ronberku Posted November 15, 2013 Share #17 Posted November 15, 2013 Some additional useful information - Silver rank will also give you 2 parcels - This event will appear again in februari for the US/EU release of the game. So for those that won't have the level to finish the event or have alts. You'll have a second chance to obtain the items. Link to comment
KitKat Posted November 15, 2013 Share #18 Posted November 15, 2013 Silver also gives you 2 parcels. Bronze gives 0. Edit: The guy above me beat me to it. Serves me right for not refreshing before posting. Link to comment
Olofantur Posted November 15, 2013 Share #19 Posted November 15, 2013 Probably beating a dead horse with this But thank you for spoilering the Map images EVG!!! Also, am I the only one who had hoped the Lance was a bit... bigger? in length that is. The Axe as well feels kinda weird.. Link to comment
Kismet Posted November 15, 2013 Share #20 Posted November 15, 2013 I agree, some of the weapons fell slightly below my expectations... The bow, mostly. I don't like how the character holds it. The only weapon I am 100% happy with is Lightning's sword, of course. That thing's badass. Link to comment

Havoc Snow Posted November 20, 2013 Share #24 Posted November 20, 2013 Just finished the last quest and I have to say I'm impressed with how well they did the event, as far as keeping it lore friendly. They even explained why she would have a Miqo'te outfit in FFXIII. The last fate was pretty cool as well and I wouldn't mind doing it a few times. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't done it yet though, but for anyone who needs to know where it's located, it should be at x26,y12 in Mor Dhona, though it can also spawn a little further to the East from there as well. Edit: x33, y11 is the second location I mentioned. Edit 2: For anyone curious to see what the final boss of the event is, here you go. Bonus Screenshot: Link to comment
Dat Oni Posted November 20, 2013 Author Share #25 Posted November 20, 2013 Thanks for the input, Ashren. Quest IV information is up! And for Salty Lake, here is Edgar in full Bohemian. Thank you all for the positive feedback, and I sincerely hope this guide helps you out! Peace! Link to comment
