Keepers of the Moon, I need your help [Balmung]

Having worked out more of my alt's backstory, I stumbled across something that could be a potential plot hook and a way to tie a fairly non-social character into interacting with others. I'm just wondering if anybody is interested in having a character be at all connected to this.

Long story short, my alt is a Keeper from what used to be a middle-sized community of Keeper families living around Gridania. Typically members of the city's guilds, merchants, or farmers, rather than poachers or anything of the sort. Though they weren't all related, they acted a bit like one large family, even using the successive name suffixes for sons amongst each other (hence a child with the 'zi suffix not actually having eight elder brothers, biologically).

But in the wake of the Calamity, many of the adults of this community died or were scattered across Eorzea, and the union of families was broken up.

So here's what I'm wondering: does anybody have a Keeper character who they'd be interested in including in this backstory or scenario? I know a lot of people play characters who were variously orphaned, and many people play Keepers of the Moon, so I'm just curious if anybody else would want to tie their character into this (hypothetical) former community as a shared backstory element.

Ah, given that my character is already named, he might be a poor fit for what appears to be a fairly well-established clan of Keepers. What I had in mind was a looser allegiance of families, anyway, so I don't necessarily know if this is going to be a great deal of help for me. :( But thank you nonetheless!

:D Hey, it doesnt matter if named or not.

The clan accepts well - anyone in. You essentially are re-trialed as a clan member. We have several members who are not originally from the clan. However I am assuming that the clan before the calamity did do trading with other nearby groups to keep territory lines even.

I'll look into joining up with the Morbolvine clan as my character's story progresses, in that case! It's almost certain that even if Ahlek'zi's family was unrelated by blood or membership to the Molkot or Polaali, they traded and interacted with them. I'd intended for the Ghria family to be less tribal in structure overall, but not alienated from more traditional Keepers. In the meantime, I'll read over this.

Would you be interested in meeting up with Ahlek'zi in-game at some point?

Hey, ansemaru. While I already have an established clan in my character's back-story, they do live in the Twelveswood, and could have known of, or even traded with, your families. I wouldn't mind being included in some elements of your back-story.

NOICE Naih'ir! You even made elements of a language? That's what I had originally intended to do with my clan too. I'm so jelly about your detailedness.

Anyways, ansemaru, good luck finding Naih'ir and his clan. They are too good at playing Keepers, so I personally can NEVER find them. Like they hide all the time or something. Coming out from the shadows to lecture other Miqo'te PCs about traditions... xD

Ah, if you're comfortable having Kiht's clan have some shared background with Ahlek'zi's, that would be great! They definitely were involved in a fair amount of trading with other clans in the region, as well as with non-Miqo'te businesses and entities, so it's wholly reasonable that there would be some kind of connection. Mind if I add you in-game at some point so we can connect IC?

I'd love to add you as a contact. I'll even look for you with player search when I get on. *Writes your Keeper's name down*

I have an alt, Nalani Zendai, who is actually currently in your FC (though I've been having trouble with meetings since they're before I get off work so we haven't met D:) who might be able to fit in that background if you wanted. She's a Keeper of course and right now all I have mapped out for her background is that her particular family she comes from is a family who's known for their Conjurer prodigy's whom they train as soon as they're able to hold a wand. I also have down that she's on a trial required by her clan where the clan members leave home for a year at least to see as much as they can before returning home and deciding if they want to stay in the 'clan' which by clan I mean the collection of families that I haven't put further definition to yet.

I haven't mentioned anything about the Calamity with her at the moment so there's no worries about that being something that's going to clash with your story but I have been saying her particular family is intact so I'm not sure if that would be something you could work with. ^^

Oh, you're Nalani's player! I haven't been able to make it to meetings lately either, but I'm sure we'll get to see each other in-game at some point.

Anyway, as for the shared background stuff, it could actually work. Not all of the families from the community were wiped out- it's just that enough of the adults died or were scattered that the organization fell apart and everyone drifted away. If you'd like to make it so Nalani's family was one that survived the Calamity intact, faring better than some of the others, that would actually be really neat.

Yep, I am the ever elusive newbie there. ^^

And I'd actually love that! So I'll just incorporate into her background that some of her family was lost but for the most part they fared very well compared to the others. Maybe she could be looking for some of the lost pieces while she's on her trial out in the world. If there's any details you'd like me to add specifically of course I'd love to hear them and also would Nalani know your Keeper you think? How old is he at the moment?

I'm still hammering out the details and specifics, to be honest. I just know that there was a collection of families living near Gridania, mostly merchants and members of the various crafting and combat guilds, and that specifically Ahlek'zi's parents were healers associated with the Conjurer's guild- presumably much like Nalani's family. The community itself wasn't particularly old, only a couple of generations, but was tight-knit enough that unrelated families considered each other kin enough that the current generation of sons were given the successive name suffixes, despite being from different mothers. (So in short, it's a very elaborate justification for him having only one biological sibling, but the 'zi suffix.)

I have Ahlek'zi at around 19 years old- he was 14 at the time of Calamity. Depending on Nalani's age, there's a decent chance they'd know each other!

Nalani is 22 right now so they would have known each other most likely especially since his family was also involved with the Conjurers guild as Nalani's was extensively. Nalani was from probably one of the more old fashioned families but they wouldn't have been unfriendly just proper-ish and she would have been 17 at the time of the Calamity. How much they would have known each other is something we can discuss! I'm always open for them having had ties as friends, or even just having been somewhat friendly because their families were peers in a sense. As well as other options of course too, he could have despised her and I wouldn't mind!

Given the age difference, Nalani's traditional family, and Ahlek'zi's shyness, I get the feeling they'd have known each other, but not been very close. Three years age difference does feel a lot bigger when you're a kid than when you're an adult, after all. I don't think they'd have been on bad terms, though. Well... now that they're both conjurers, there might be differences between them, but we'll see when they actually interact, I think.

I think you'd be right after reading his profile, and considering their differing views on Conjury I can see it being a little tense between them now. Nalani isn't a bleeding heart for nature but she doesn't believe in not stopping a death that can be prevented and she has her own reasoning and argument for that! I'm sure their meeting will be interesting. I should be on at some time today and will try to add you if I can. ^^
