Greetings to all those concerned, I'm The_Wizard or Valthoran (Val for short) if it pleases you. I'm a 23 year-old human IRL living on the west coast of the United States and quite frankly I wish I lived elsewhere.

I found this site by googling FF14: ARR and roleplaying and began randomly clicking around and saw things of interest, such is the wonder of the internet.

I have been playing FF14: ARR for a few months now because a dear friend of mine invited me due to our history on World of Warcraft, he however became recently disinterested in the game and I have now been set adrift within this realm of Eorzea after the failure of our Free Company.

We were playing on the NA server Famfrit where I have an Elezen lvl 50 SCH/SMN named Valthoran Windwyrd whom I enjoy very much, however roleplaying has always been my true passion, with dungeons and raids following in second, and due to my virtual abandonment I have considered setting my sights beyond Famfrit as it is a server without an established RP community.

Prior to playing FF14: ARR I was an avid rper on World of Warcraft where I often held the title of "Loremaster," a title which often did more harm than good but why dwell on past hardships? My rp career on WoW began around June of 2009 where I created a High Elven, not Blood Elven mind you, wizard by the name of Valthoran Windwyrd and continued to play and develop him all the way to last year when I slipped into a melancholic retirement... wow that's about 5 years of character development.

While gameplay and fancy items are nice, its the stories and lore of a game that really captures my interest and imagination and this game is no exception. However I must admit that I am still learning this game as well at it's lore since I did not play in version 1.0 but I am very eager to learn.

The elements of this game that I find most appealing from an rp perspective are:

1. Elezen, Duskwight Elezen more so than Wildwood, as well as Keepers of the Moon Miqo'te.

2. The reclusive city-state of Ishgard.

3. The ancient societies of Nym and the Allagan Empire.

4. Magic in general since its a personal favorite of mine and my username isn't "The_Wizard" for nothing.

5. Awesome-looking clothing for use in RP.

6. Exploration and discovery.

Alas I do not have as much time as I once did due to having a job and a girlfriend, who unfortunately does not share my passion for video games, however I still desire a medium to heavy RP environment as it's what I became accustomed to on WoW, although really I'm down for other things such as dungeons, IC or OOC.

As stated earlier I only have chars on Famfrit so I would have to choose a new server and start from square one *shudder* so if anyone has any recommendations based on my information offered thus far I would be glad to receive them.

And in case anyone feels curious, my main character idea is for a male Duskwight Elezen based upon my High Elf from WoW with the base class of either Thaumaturge or Arcanist. However I am aware that the name Valthoran Windwyrd would have to be "Elezenified" to sound more like French which isn't a real big deal since coming up with names is always fun. As for clans and other such affiliations I am uncertain, partially due to being rather shy in game and not wanting to cause any disruptions. One idea is the pursuit of magic in order to help find a way to establish a new home for the Duskwight Elezen, which was inspired by the NPC quest-givers outside of Gridania, and another could be a more general desire for knowledge of ancient societies in order to gain a better understanding and perhaps better prepare for the future.

At any rate please forgive my veritable wall of text, I sometimes get carried away with my typing, and remember to live your role, till sea swallows all!

Welcome to the RPC!

Warcraft was where I started RPing, though I was originally a heavy PvE/PvPer.  I'm still trying to turn over the lore from Azeroth to Eorzea.  That'll probably take a while.

Sorry to hear about your free company falling apart and your friend losing interest.  Never fun to be alone on the server.  :(

Regardless of whether you are looking to transfer or re-roll, I would most certainly recommend making a character on both Balmung and Gilgamesh and feeling out the communities for yourself.  Balmung, by far, is larger in community size, whereas Gilgamesh is tiny and tight-knit.  From what you've said, I don't think you'd have a problem fitting in to either of them, and I believe what it would come down to is which one interests you more.  My suggestion would be to poke around the Linkshell Hall, perhaps attend one or two of the events on each server, and find which server has your best prime times available.

I know for Gilgamesh, Limsa is our biggest hotspot, and our prime times are generally in the evenings (I'm EST, over here).  We also have two events coming up, both of which are on the calender.

If you poke around my neck of the woods, be sure to say hi!

Hello and welcome! n_n

First of all, I love your signature! Antonidas' Silver Coin from World of Warcraft, I presume? I was an avid WoW player as well, a few years back and I still keep that quote close to heart.

As Edalyne said, it would be good if you create characters on both servers, just to check out how the communities are like! For Balmung(the server I'm on), the hotspot is Ul'dah. If you come online about 8pm or so GMT time, the tavern is abuzz with RPers!

For the Elezen naming, I wouldn't be too bothered about that unless you want to strictly stick to the lore. Or... you could perhaps even create a back story for your character as to why he was named differently(like my character)! I once overheard conversation where a Miqo'te revealed he was raised by Elezens when someone asked about his unusual name. This can make a character more interesting!

Free companies(aka clans) will come slowly in the game once you've roamed around a little bit, so I wouldn't worry too much about that either. People are usually very friendly in the RP community!

New horizons await you my friend!

Do feel free to PM me if you're around Balmung!

Thank you for the replies guys, it made me happy to get a few so quickly.

@Erik: Thank you, I just might. Also the picture in your sig is badass.

@Chesabell: Indeed it from Antonidas' Silver Coin, its cheering to know another fan of it exists out there. I suppose I will try out both but the idea of a close-knit group is appealing to me so I think I'll try Balmung first. In regards to the name I think I'll keep it as it is and if asked I'll mention a falling-out and the decision to come up with his own name to reflect his independence.

EDIT: Hmm Balmung isn't accepting any new characters... a pity.

RE-EDIT: Nevermind, I got lucky and got around the restriction this morning. I made Valthoran Windwyrd.

Welcome to Balmung, dude! My brother and I were big RP-types on WoW, him moreso than me. He ran a guild called The Blackguard for a long while on Moonguard and the two of us were in the Shadows of Wrynn on Wyrmrest later on.

Anywho, I'm in a fun FC called Harbingers of Dawn http://hoftd.enjin.com with a nice group of casual players who RP often if you're looking for a group to call home. No need though, Balmung is full of awesome players and great RP opportunities!

Cheers.

Hello and welcome to the RPC!

If you have any questions, just ask!

There are many good ways to RP here with events, random places to RP in such as Ul'Dah and there are tons of Free Companies that do RP.

One of the big RP events is the Coffern and the Coffin Tavern Nights.

Be sure to check this thread out:
