Roleplaying an Ishgardian

Heh oddly enough my character Artorias is the opposite of yours in some ways.  He was a Garlean soldier, but after witnessing the Calamity he lost faith in the Empire because instead of destroying the primals and saving the world(which he truly believed the Empire was doing) they did the opposite.  He deserted and took it upon himself to find and destroy Bahamut, even if it costs him his own life.  It is his twisted way of atoning for the atrocities he committed when he was with the Legions.

Ha!  Polar opposite!  Nice.  Oddly enough, his story is more similiar with Roen's. (What, I have two Garleans who are not really Garleans)

I would love to meet other Ishgardians!  Not sure if *Rae* would want to meet other Ishgardians.  She would despise most of them.    But I am keeping a track of characters mentioned here, in case she might know -of- them.  Like House Rivendare.  ('I thought the last of that house had no heir...') :D

Yup that's no problem, I actually made a bit of lore about them as I made them a Crusader House with a small history of their own.  Just let me know and I'll send it to you. :)

I'd love to read it!  More I know about other people's characters the better. :)

You know, it would be pretty sweet if we started a Dragoon linkshell to get all of the RPers who play the class together.  That way we could brainstorm on all different ideas and share lore that we find to help us with our histories/RP/stories. I know there is one for people who play Miqo'tes, so why not create one for Dragoons? It could also possibly turn into an RP group of sorts, like an order of knights that let's say decided to band together because of the inability to enter Ishgard due to their isolation from the rest of Eorzea.  I for one wouldn't mind seeing an entire army of dragoons in their traditional armor just show up at a public event one day and make their presence known.  I dunno, what do you guys think? Could we use this as a way to keep in touch regardless of where we are in Eorzea?  Would you guys give "Ordo Draconis" a go?

I love the idea for a DRG LS personally, though my character left Ishgard or the area when she was 16 xD she wouldn't really be a dragoon so to say just has some lancer training (actually my characters back story has her more as the smith's daughter type of deal).

Sounds like a great idea, Artorias.

So would this be an RP linkshell or just an OOC one? I'd love to join but my character betrayed his oath to the Holy See so he's not exactly on speaking terms with other Ishgardian Knights. Vairemont also gave up his lance out of shame the day he walked out of Ishgard, and now he's an archer.

And on the topic of lancers, I'm also not 100% what the RPC's consensus is on like Dragoon roleplay. Lorewise, Dragoons are "chosen" by the Eye of Nidhogg, which was pierced out of the wyrm Nidhogg by the first dragoon. The eye then bestows some of the dragon's power onto dragoons... like every single job (like CNJ>WHM, THM>BLM, ARC>BRD, ACN>SMN/SCH) is a "special case" where YOUR character stumbles upon some secret power or mentor who makes you his protege and successor. Like the Wood Wailers and Knights of Ishgard are primarily lancers. In Ishgard, the dragoon is just like a special power and I thought there was only like one "dragoon".

However it's not really exactly viable to hold true to that in a game full of bards and scholars and dragoons, haha. So obviously there has to be some lorebending to make things work.

There isn't one. :)

In the threads on just that topic (excluding the related topic of White Mages), there's been perspectives ranging from "can't ever do it, ever, period" to "there's lots of ways to get those abilities" to "the lore is bad for an MMO, so ignore it as you see fit". Also, those who post on the RPC are just a subset of all the RPers on the server, so any consensus wouldn't necessarily work for everyone else. So, the people involved in this RP concept should decide what works for them and run with it.

Just my two historical cents on that topic. :)

That actually is helpful to know, thanks. :)

I don't want to be like telling other people how to RP. I don't want to say that the lore isn't workable for an mmo, but I will say it's difficult to get dozens of strangers to just agree that this should be x way. I'd rather just kind of give a leniency to players who want to play how they want, given it's not TOO lorebreaking (like being from Vanadiel or Ivalice or something).

Also for the record I've never done the WHM quest so I don't actually know what I'm talking about in that respect!

I say "like" a lot.

On the note of Dragoons i think it was mentioned in this thread someone thought that there were probably ranks of these said knights even though the quest mainly talks (or only really..) about the azure dragoon.

For my five cents on the matter I agree with the thinking that there were probably ranks of dragoons at the least. The summoner quest proved that there were multiple soul stones for the job so I don't see why there couldn't really be like lesser dragoons or whatever rank >_>; maybe thats just me

I'd consider the fact that the Lancer's Guild described itself as an amalgam of differeing polearm styles--Dragoon is just a higher form of the art, shared among those who are battle-tested and have come to understand the courage the guildmaster of the Lancer's Guild repeatedly espouses.

I personally have not done the Dragoon job quest, but the moment any quest step mentions that I'm "the chosen one" in any variant, I pretty much pass it off as a fun narrative to watch, not absolute RP gospel.

Interesting thread ^_^

Aya Foxheart is not "Ishgardian", she is an Ala Mhigan refugee whose family found refuge (shortly before the gates were sealed) with distant relatives who had settled in Ishgard generations beforehand as Sellswords.  She was raised in the city and grew to loath it: a combination of the overbearing and restrictive nature of the religious environment, the pretentiousness of her parents (who have been unable to adjust to their new social status), and the general unwelcomeness she felt in the city outside of her own peer group.  Escaping in the middle of the night she's happy to have left.

I have really enjoyed the Hyur-Elezen discussion in this thread, and I suspect that as Highland Hyur, members of the Ala Mhigan warrior class, and very tenuous converts (skin deep just to be accepted into the city) her family were among the least welcome type!

With regards to socializing with other Ishgardians, she is generally friendly, but probably less so toward Ishgardians, especially faithful, Elezen Ishgardians, than toward anyone else :)

Still, she might reminisce about the city with an ex-patriot over some Gridanian mead!

Also... my first RPC post!

I'd have to eradicate a linkshell, but I'd be game for joining a Dragoon LS. Maybe one of these days I'll actually get around to putting up a wiki for Kiana, my dragoon. For now, though:

Kiana Highwind, my dragoon, hails from Ishgard. Originally born into a vassal family of House Haillenarte, it was by luck and honour that she was chosen to become a dragoon in service of her House. (( Note: knowledge of her House is purely OOC Knowledge.)) In the three years since she's left her home, she's made no attempt to hide where she is from. It is known that she lives around Fallgourd Float, and assists with training people with using the lance at times.

I do play her as being roughly 1/4 elezen, which is most prominent in her face around her jaw, cheeks, almond-shaped eyes, and the slight point to her ears (in-game sprite is a hyur, though). Given the naming convention of the elezen, and that Coerthas seems populated by them mostly, I also try my best to showcase her accent, which would sound like native French speaker speaking in English.

If any of you former Ishgardians (especially those with ties to House Haillenarte) want to set-up/work out how they may know my character, including her actual name (she hints that Kiana isn't her real name when introducing herself), please send me a message here! :D
