Lady Portia Bartel Posted February 12, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 12, 2014 Hey there! My name is Portia, though I also go by Pettanko Princess online. I needed a new game to play recently and my friends all got me into FFXIV back when it was released officially. I played for a month on Excalibur then got too busy with school and stopped. The about a month ago I found out an RL friend of mine played, and he was on an "RP server" and I was like.....wait what, is that a thing? I joined Balmung, hoping to really flesh out a character. I've been role playing for ABOUT ten years, and holy shit do I feel old saying that. Though I started young, 12 years old on Gaia and RPing the dumbest shit imaginable, we all have to start somewhere and thankfully after a few years I started to really understand and love role playing. The past two years I've only written with one friend over skype, mostly because we're very particular about how we write and we enjoy each others' style. I'm used to really describing scenes in great length and detail, without the limitations of time for a specific scene....but also without the usefulness of having real character models and scenery! So, the past month I've been playing on Balmung has reaaally been an interesting learning experience. In any case, I only have a few friends that Portia has had a story with, though I really think it would be more exciting if she met more people. She's really starting to flesh out, and as a writer I am BEYOND excited about her development. Please, if you happen to see her, feel free to strike up an RP! I'm down to write at any given moment, haha. Link to comment

Lady Portia Bartel Posted February 12, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted February 12, 2014 Hm, i passed you yesterday..actually. Didn't realize you were an Rper. I don't particularly walk-up to random strangers, without whispering them first. I've run into too many people wanting sex in rp, so now i have to talk to the person OOC; to dictate if that is their motive. My apologies for overlooking you. If you agree with my outlook on Rp, you can /tell me in game, any time of dayl; if i am online. Names Von'jir Tia Yeah! I'm always looking for new people to start stories with. Sex isn't a motive at all, in fact the core of Portia's personality is pretty against it. I'll definitely send you a tell sometime. ^-^ Link to comment
Olofantur Posted February 12, 2014 Share #5 Posted February 12, 2014 Greetings Portia and welcome to the show! Sounds like you've already had the chance to poke around in game and meet some people, an excellent way to start off. Have you joined any linkshells yet? maybe added a few people to your friends list so you can keep tabs on what might be going on where? Either way chances are you'll meet plenty more interesting people, theres lots to do if you're willing to go out and scrounge it up. I've got a few links here i'd like to share, you might already be familiar with it and in that case, my apologies. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That welcome post from the RPC gives you a bit of history as well as mentioning a few of the moderators here so you know who to get in touch with if you've having an administrative problem ect. It also lists some of the key site features such as the Wiki [A great place to host a character profile.] and the Lantern, and IC publication. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 This roleplay handbook provided by Eva contains a lot of information you're likely familiar with, outlining different types of roleplay, scenarios, common approaches to situations as well as touching on a few Eorzea specific things that might interest you. Quite the write-up, but the index at the top should help you get to the bits most helpful to you. But maybe you'd just like to see a community or two in action, and while I don't like to recommend IC groups as everyone roleplay needs are different and I think the best way to get to know them and what they do is to meet them in game, there are two OOC groups I highly recommend to any Balmung-ian http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an OOC linkshell dedicated to connecting roleplayers of all different types. You can talk about all sorts of things here or just listen in. Get to know where an event is happening, who might be attending or ask a few questions while you're out in the world. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is all about the PVE. A linkshell focused on getting the people of Balmung together for groups before resorting to the duty finder/Party Finder. If you're looking to fill some positions in agroup, or just want to hop into another persons farming of Garuda EX for a trinket, BF is a good place to start looking. Hope that helps you on your way a little, maybe you'll find something interesting to run with. As always feel free to jump into the forums, flag some people down, get to know who's out there. Best of luck in Eorzea! :cactuar: Link to comment

Tobias Nightbringer Posted February 12, 2014 Share #9 Posted February 12, 2014 HULLO! Ain't no shame (well not THAT much ) in having your start in the RP world in a place like Gaia! Hell, I think I first started dabbling in RP on NeoPets! WOOPS! I find myself more a lurker on the RPC than actually being in game recently, but welcome all the same and if I happen to see your character abouts (whenever I get around to logging back in ) I will definitely send a greetin'! Kage Posted February 12, 2014 Share #11 Posted February 12, 2014 Hello! I started with Gaia too so no worries. If it's a shame, well we can be a shameful together? I was into Neopets way too young for me to have even considered RPing then... Kage sticks around in Ul'dah for various reasons. His family is from the area, and his work and specialties lie in it. If you ever need a Lalafell (gladiator in-training) or general "good" Lalafell let me know. I'm generally in Quicksand as a gladiator if I'm available or already RPing. A lot of my time is still spent doing end-game things though. Link to comment
