Solen Posted August 4, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 4, 2014 Hello ! I'm very new to Final Fantasy and Square Enix as in just started on Sunday, August 3rd. after playing for an hour on Saturday I ordered the digital CE. I'm a long time Rper starting back in 1999 in Everquest 1 when the game was played on a computer carved out of stone with a real mouse. Since then I've played WoW (very briefly), Everquest 2, Warhammer Online, Coh/CoV and most recently Aion. After playing for a few hours I have to wonder what took me so long to get here! I'm very impressed with the overall graphics and lore. I'm pretty excited if you couldn't tell from the babbling text. *chuckles* But...on to a few questions 1. how do you decided what server to play on ? I'm torn between Gilgamesh and Balmung. After much key mashing and waking up every few hours to see if the servers were unlocked. I've made two characters on each server so far. Gilgamesh, New Grindania - I didn't really encounter much of the RP community in the ...9 hours I was online sunday *twitch* but it seemed to be pretty quiet. there look to be a few RP company's but I'm not sure of their membership or activity. Balmung, Ul'dah - I logged in for about an hour so far ...and OMG! so many people Rping in the streets, alleys, taverns..well you get the idea. The RP community seems to be huge. I was hoping for a few opinions on the servers from those with more experience. 2. is there a way to copy the graphic from one item onto another ? in Aion this was accomplished by going to a remodeler npc who would change the appearance of an item by extracting it from another item which was destroyed. I'm sure there are a few more questions but I think I've bombarded the forum enough for one post =) Thanks Solen Link to comment
Jonexe Posted August 4, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2014 1. Generally I would say pick the server that has your friends on it; but seeing as how you're new, I would spend some time at peak hours (roughly 4pm-12am central time from what I've noticed) and see what appeals to you more. On Balmung (where I play), the Quicksand (Ul'dah Adventurer's Guild) typically has a lot of RP around that time. 2. I believe you're referring to what is called the Glamour System in FFXIV. There's a quest you have to do to unlock it. You can find most of the information about it here: http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Glamours Link to comment
Hyakki Posted August 4, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 4, 2014 1:I'm from Balmung so my opinion on server choice would be in its favor. Ul'dah is the biggest RP hotspot, that may also be the case for Gilgamesh. Give both a try for a while, maybe you'll find something from each that you like about both or prefer one over the other with time. Personally, I tried both and chose Balmung because I disliked the attitude of some of the non-RP community at the time. 2: Glamour system, requires you to reach level 50 though. The item you take the appearance from is not destroyed but will be bound to you if not already spiritbonded. Link to comment
Solen Posted August 4, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted August 4, 2014 Thank you for the replies, that website should answer most of my questions. I've been bouncing back and forth between both servers and I think I'm leaning toward Balmung. :bouncy: I should be on for awhile as Solen Glass on Balmung tonight. Link to comment
LiadansWhisper Posted August 5, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 5, 2014 Welcome, then! I'm another who is biased towards Balmung. I originally made the decision because, despite being a non-legacy player, I felt that a legacy server would be the better choice because it already had a good population of dedicated RPers who would be sticking around. And now, even more have come to the server. Link to comment
Solen Posted August 6, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted August 6, 2014 No matter how upset you get, no matter how irrational the initial reaction to getting your nose a little out of joint is, you are not allowed to lose sight of the fact that there is no possible way anything that happens in 'pretendy fun time games' can actually be important. It is not, nor will it ever be, a big deal." True. Unless your RPing with your spouse! Link to comment

Mercurias Posted August 8, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 8, 2014 There's also always the tried, true, and ever-correct "Yes dear, I'm sorry". Or maybe me making posts like this is WHY I'm not married, among other things. And welcome first to the game and second to Balmung. We're glad to have you here. Ul'dah is, as was said before, the largest roleplay hub on the server for random RP, but I've found that it also has the highest concentration of OOC trolls and ICly the city's entire population is under constant threat of having its water supply contaminated by tiny Magitek eunuch Miqo'te with AIDs-Cancer (I poke fun at a previous story plot, not try and start a fight, so please don't think I'm singling anyone out or making trouble about a storyline I wasn't involved in). Gridania is always pretty, and you'll see the occasional bit of random RP, but most of the time I see RP going on in Lavender Beds. Sato actually is around Gridania a lot, so if you want to swing by and make enemies with a jerk face, he's your man. Limsa Lominsa is undergoing an RP revival with some of our fine community members, at least one if whom has brought a number of plot points and new memories to the port city. Anyway, feel free to hit me with a forum PM or a tell in-game. I'm always up for roleplay! Link to comment
Lillith Cale Posted August 8, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 8, 2014 I am also in favor of Balmung I can always find RP there pretty much anywhere I look. Link to comment
