Brynhilde Posted September 8, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2014 Hello all, Like many of us here at the RPC, I just love the character Wiki. It's endlessly useful for forging character connections, meeting new people, striking up organic RP or just learning interesting things about other peoples' characters. If you haven't used it, I thoroughly recommend it. One feature in particular that I love is the 'Recent Changes' link. This allows you to view all of the character pages that have been created or edited recently. It's really useful for keeping up with what's going on with other people's PCs and also for spotting new characters so that you can track them down in-game and give them a formal, organic RP welcome. Many of us put a lot of time and effort into our wiki pages ( guilty...), and that means a lot of edits. The unfortunate downside of this is that if you edit your page lots of times in succession, you flood the recent changes page with your own edits, and push the edits of others further down the page. To prevent this, while editing your wiki you can use the 'show preview' button at the bottom of the edits window: This will allow you to view the changes you've made, without committing to them and actually editing your page. If you're concerned about your browser crashing mid-edit and losing what you've been working on (Tip: when I'm working on a big edit, I copy paste my changes into a Google doc. I love you, Google docs. ; ;), there's another option: Saving your wiki page as a 'minor edit' until you're satisfied with your final edit allows people viewing the recent changes page to select 'Hide minor edits' at the top of the page, and thus remove edit spam. And that's it! Remember, only YOU can prevent edit page hogging and help me stalk characters I like and help maintain an effective and efficient character wiki! 1 Link to comment
Melkire Posted September 8, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 8, 2014 I approve of the "minor edits" option. That is, like, my favorite checkmark box ever. Link to comment
Kahnopy Posted September 8, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2014 TIL I was without a doubt a big culprit in the flood, but no more! Link to comment
Tiergan Posted September 8, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 8, 2014 Praise Bryn and her wise knowledge! I was once a repeat offender until she taught me her wiki wisdom. And, you know, taught me how to wiki to start with. Link to comment
