Wouldn't you think this question a little redundant given that Garlemald is simply following in the same footsteps as the Allagan empire? The magitek reapers being based on old allagan relics....? Just a thought and all.

Granted this would go with a bit more current knowledge but, still. Personally the only real evil empire so far that I've seen is the allagan, given their use of a magic beyond our own, but hey, void based reliance aside.....

Not really sure what the point of this thread is? o_o Just trying to understand if it's to say the question could be confusing, or arguing the semantics of the Garlean Empire being "evil."

For the former, the Garlean Empire is more widely known to most players than the Allagan Empire, particularly for newer players or players of 1.0. Garlemald uses Magitek, whereas the Allagans used Allagan technology, but I think the biggest indicator of all would be that the question uses present tense, more or less ruling out the Allagan Empire as an option.

As for the former... good and evil is always subjective, at least to some degree. I think many people might think a nation that conquers other nations by force (seemingly with world domination in mind) then essentially brainwashes their people to assimilate them into their armies for future conquests and uses violence and force as their first option in any situation might be considered evil. And that's not even getting to the bit about crashing the moon into the earth, nor cohorting with Ascians and Voidsent, or purposefully summoning the Primals to absorb their power.

Either way, seeing as the game is set in Eorzea and we all play as Eorzeans, the narrative we're fed tells us that Garleans are evil, biased as it may be.

The Purpose of the Prompt isn't to be logically sound, but to verify if you are a real Human Being as opposed to a Flooding Bot / Virus / Hack attempt, and probably to confirm that you have the most minute of grasps when it comes to FFXIV lore. It 'is' the antagonistic faction however to your hero, thus represents 'Evil'.

In the regard, the questions does it's job well.

See, that's the thing though, even in 1.0 we knew of members within the ranks of the garlean empire that were said to bring back the old allagan constructs, even going so far as to bring up Nael's lineage. This would suggest that, yes, you're right with the question originally stating that the one in question would be the Garlean empire, though there's a good bit of evidence, even from the original bits of information shared about the garlean empire that could easily suggest the allagan empire could also be a legitimate answer.

Well, all the same, got two to question the intentions here. Either way it's more of a chicken and the egg scenario where one has to question which could essentially be seen as the right answer in this case. For example, the Allagans originally devised these monstrous constructs, however, the Garleans used them, refer to them as Magitek, and develop new ways for them to work as they go through the methods of what could essentially be reverse engineering.

Either way, both used them for the intent for global conquest, the past is repeating itself. Could easily be seen via the bonus dvd that came along with the CE of ARR <3 The timelines there alone really made for a fun read.

So, uh, yeah. It's not a philosophical statement or argument, it's an anti-spam tool. :) The idea of the question CAPTCHA is to keep out both bots and low-skilled human spammers of the sort hired through Mechanical Turk. While a spammer could go look up the answer to any of the questions, that takes more time than it's worth, and so all but the most dedicated spammers will give up and go elsewhere. We'd get a similar effect by tarpitting the registration page (say, by making it be submitted two or three times, with a 60+ second delay), but the question CAPTCHA is a lot less annoying.

In terms of actual numbers, this particular question's success rate is about the same as all of the others. So, even if it might be confusing to some, in the aggregate, it's about as hard as all of the other questions. (Fun fact: over 200k spammer registration attempts have been rejected by our question CAPTCHA!)

Also, Allagan technology ain't magitek. Just sayin'. :)
