  1. what's the difference? currently our working knowledge is that a Primal exists within the aether and is coalesced when summoned. What if this is how other primals start?
  2. quite so. I believe that garlemald is described as aetherically depleted, as its been farmed till kingdom come for ceruleum. Its also known that areas where many have died are also aetherically charged. alas, there's a chance that some forms of magic might be rendered useless on garlemald/garlean lands. beyond that however, I've little memory and would rather sounds the sounsyy signal
  3. too late. I've seen it. I am sure i will continue to.
  4. too late. I've seen it. I am sure i will continue to.
  5. Def. had some 'oh shit' moments as a tank. imho there's more pressure on tanks/healers in general. Plus you have to take more into account. keep aggro, maintain right position and inbetween dps as much as you can without risking said aggro/position. very nopeworthy when you run content for the first time
  6. Holy- I mean, on one side I'd be flattered that someone fancies my character bordering on obession, but jesus.
  7. He did run into the crowd, we were tightly gathered. In his half-defense, I was halfway to emoting that I casually decapitated him (unposted) because 1) I've got a history at the Grindstone and 2) You SHOWED UP AT A TOURNAMENT OF FIGHTERS AND PICKED A FIGHT. Try and jump the fence at the Octagon during the Main Event of UFC. I dare you. This one irks me a bit. It's kinda as if you're saying 'I have priviledge / powergaming rights because you've been to the grindstone a plenty of times. But that's about the only bit that irks me, otherwise you're in the right in the whole scenario. In my opinion, that guy probably wasn't even trolling, or trying to be a jerk. It's rather that I know plenty of players that get frustrated when they realize that they can't be the center of attention / the guy in the spotlight in established groups. So they pull shit like this and stamp off any players not going with their headcannon as 'elitist assholes' or 'circlejerk mofos'. Because they can't be 'one of the cool kids' right off the bat. And the thought of having to 'work' for recognition in a group apalls them, because they equate it to 'sucking up'. More or less, you met the prototype version of : Let me be in the spotlight or you're an asshole. And It wouldn't be farfetched if he behaved like this outside of events aswell.
  8. people are too easily offended imho. I miss the days where you could cuss eachother out verbally online, have a little flame war here and there, hate eachothers guts for a few hours and then return to "business as usual", roleplaying with the very same person a few hours later and not having it affect IC one bit.
  9. highlander male and xaela au'ra on this front
  10. I like the Fact that it keeps me thinking. Like, for many years I ran in closed, defined Rp groups with overarching plot lines. This Open RP setting challenges alot of things I've taken for granted over those years. Beyond that ofc i enjoy the diversity. And the forums never get boring, there's always somehing going on
  11. How likely do you believe it is that Garleans have an equivalent to the Gladiatorial set up of Ul'dah? Given Garleans seem to draw heavy Roman influences in their entire set up.
  12. - How does your character deal with killing? Nonchalantly. Enjoying it even due to his early Dotharl upbringing (Enjoying massacres and such). He's no issue with dealing death and has done so in the past. - How did your character feel after his/her first kill? Since, culturally speaking, Dotharl are primed for war and violence, from what we know, I'd say; Proud, accomplished and 'mature'. Like a rite of passage. - Does your character mull over it later on? (Exe. The nightmares) At times, definitely. Being present in different Cultures does that to him, to the point that he's constantly confused to whether his way of seeing things is the right one or not. Also, being a Slave for several years shifted his perception to some degree since, for the first time, he was victim of his circumstances instead of aggressor. So that opened up a new can of worms in terms of ideologies.
  13. My biggest pet peeve in FFXIV RP has to be seeing people complain about Japanese influence / Anime realism | Physics. When I started playing XIV, there where many people wholly embracing FFXIV as a sort of European, medieval gritty realism thing. Picking apart things towards it's 'medieval plausibility' and realism as such. When you mentioned that 'yo, it's final fantasy. People deflect bullets with swords in this franchise / genre' You had people riled up within seconds, either brushing it off as weeabo madness inspired by animu and mango, and seemingly ignoring the very fact that all that they mention to hate / dislike about anime and manga is not just present in Final fantasy and XIV itself, but it's present in spades. From black mages 'charging their laz0rs' to Swordsman / Ninja's with unrealistic reflexes and abilities to jump from heights that'd be otherwise lethal = FFXIV is 'not' realistic, and shouldn't be measured in gritty European Medieval standards. I mean, from the cutscenes, to the emotes, to the obscure Hentai-trope hints in this game; You're simply playing in the wrong medium if some Anime-esque moves and motions upset you. ..Ironically, on the flipside I also get irked when people take this notion of Anime physics and tropes being present and run with it way too far, playing the FFXIV version of magical girl lyrical nanoha or Dragon Ball Z. Which leads me to another pet peeve ; The 'I'm paying for this game / I do what I want / If you don't like it don't play with me " Ideology. It's an inconsiderate, bullshit stance. Especially in Roleplay, there's nothing more important (In my opinion at least) then to be on the same page when it comes to lore / having the same 'vision' so to speak in the shared world you roleplay in. if what you play is in stark contrast to what lore / the story dictates so far, and you go 'pfft I pay for this I do what I want'. Ofcourse you have to be flexible in an Open World / RP setting, but that doesn't mean I have to accept magical girl lyrical nanoha material or that I'm an ass if my peers and I shun you out of roleplay because you wont even entertain the notion that, infact, your playstyle is disrupting the RP atmosphere / established lore.
  14. It's a tough one, but all you can do is either roll with it or cease roleplaying with said person. They retconned, hard, and it's up to you to choose if that's okay with you or if they're out of your story for that reason.
  15. To be honest, my view probably isn't the best because I hail from a Roleplaying background where we had very elaborate rules regarding character creation/approval and alot of it was guided by GM's/Admins that oversaw that things remained balanced, no Mary Sue/Gary stu figures arose and that a certain degree of equilibrium and fairness remained. (aswell ofcourse the basic RP rules such as no Godmodding, metagaming, powergaming etc). But to answer your question; My View is that I do not assume a Characters proficiency. I find that out through Roleplay, or by inquiring beforehand. The alternative would be me being a condescending asswipe to anything that's below level 30 because 'lolscrub get level before you get recognized as a trained character'
  16. Not really a counter point. So what, level 5 character picks a fight? Doesn't matter. If he's playing an apt swordsman, he's playing an apt swordsman. if he's playing a merchant, he's playing a merchant. Level has no relevance on that. A character is defined by both background and how he was written, not by a number above his games head.
  17. For me personally OOC achievement has no relevance to your character at all, period. Taking it as indicator for anything is simply assuming at best. The 'only', truly valid information you could get from someones level is the degree of time he spends in the game. Also, some food for thought. Let's say you spend all your time leveling, min/maxing your character by running dungeons etc, until you got a decked out lvl 60 character (which, more or less, is OOC content given you're not RPing the Warrior of Light himself). Someone else spends all that time Roleplaying fighting sessions and training, his characters OOC level is however 15. He invest however the same amount of time, and possibly even more effort. So who's the stronger one? The one who's got his shiny Artifact weapon and all dat armor and shiny lvl 60 tag and armor? Or the guy that chose to RP for 'all' of that equivalent time, roleplaying training sessions, workouts, etc etc. My moneys on the latter guy.
  18. You can't discriminate against a social group that holds all the power. And White Male holds All of it. And I'm out of this conversation.
  19. To clarify; I don't believe there's an inherent issue with such exclusive Linkshells / or groups, or that they in turn mean that those individuals will isolate themselves to said group solely. Neither would I feel slighted if not allowed to be part of such group. I know the appeal of such 'safe' havens, in different contexts. I also know that it is easy to lose yourself in such and eventually make that your main 'staying' point as opposed to the general community as a whole. At the end of the day, Such exclusive LC's and FC's will definitely not hurt nor impede anyone. But at the same time, I do see a problem if they're made with the intend to 'avoid bigotry of the general masses against LGBT people'. Simply because that both stands as criticism towards a community I've experienced to be rather open in such regards, and secondly because it doesn't address nor help in solving the issue of said bigotry. It may be idealistic (and therein Unrealistic), but I believe the actual goal should be for the LGBT community to be able to exist comfortably as part of the whole thing, and not need to 'draw back' into their own safe haven. Which is why comparison to RP themed Linkshells/FC's doesn't hold ground, since they're not made with the intend to avoid social stigmas / bigotry/ racism by the community at large. Again, I can't stress this enough; I don't mind such Linkshells, I don't believe they're wrong or the likes. If they're made simply for people of likeminded taste to share company with eachother. I 'do' believe however that it's not helpful if they're made solely to avoid the bigotry of the masses, to, so to speak, 'withdraw' from the conflict and just resolve to 'us being ourselves somewhere seperate'. You wont achieve any form of satisfying solution. Again, It's Idealistic to a degree, but that's my opinion. Also, I don't agree with the notion that 'Non' LGBT people do not understand. Discrimination is something anyone can experience at a certain point in their lifes, and hurt is universal. You forget that Humans are empathetic creatures and the reason why we're able to exist next to eachother en masse is 'exactly because' we're able to relate, understand, and feel as our peers. While we may not relate to the very specific, singular circumstance you may find yourself in, your emotions of 'discrimination/rejection' are universal. Anyone who has ever faced discrimination in some form will be able to relate to you on an emotional basis, as emotions are universal. To say that your struggle is 'unique' and not 'understandable' by others doesn't really fly. It never did. If you even reject the notion of empathy expressed by others for the very problems you mention, then you're sabotaging 'any' hope for a mutual community.
  20. In my opinion it's not helpful. Enforce seperation and fragmentation of people and you will end up with a seperated group. I don't mind LGBT exclusive groups, but those groups are in that regard enforcing exclusivity/seperation from the so called 'majority / Normal Joes', and therein enforcing said seperation, safe spaces or not. I find it far more progressive not to make the Gender/Sexuality question into something that needs seperation. The more this type of thinking is enforced, the more we fuel the Idea that 'LGBT' people are different and belong in their own seperate group. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the whole wish of the LGBT community to be accepted at large without the necessity to explain themselves or their sexual prefferences to the world? If so, why enforce the tension / seperation from the very 'Majority' you wish to be accepted by and part of? Let me give another (and probably more problematic example); It's akin to creating a 'Black only' or 'White only' FC/Group. The only difference is that you switch sexuality with race as in terms of differences. And the Idea itself of a 'Black' or 'White' FC/Group is already repulsive in itself for me, and should be for you too. I think of seperate LGBT communities in the same regard. Only that instead of taking skin as the denominator, you take sexuality. The Idea should be in inclusiveness/unity in all things human, no matter what the topic is.
  21. Hrm.. let's address each point seperately Completely agree with that statement. But it's clearly based on some preceeding example situation which you didn't completely explain. Give us a whole account of your example like, what IC actions they took offense to, what OOC communication happened prior, what consequences it had for the other players, and then we can talk about whether 'OOC Butthurt' was justified in that case or not. I'd be hard pressed to say 'you're right' If we don't even know 'Why' those 'Butthurt' people got angry in the first place. Details Plz. People are People, and People talk. Often about other People. They do that in good light, and in bad light. I know, Captain Obv. strikes again but, ranting over OOC gossipping is like ranting over 'social behavior' in general. We're not holy spirits that radiate marshmellows and love 24/7. I'd strike out the 'Social Justice Warrior' bit and just go with Hypocrites, given your example. Endless Harassment based on loose 'proof' and hearsay is most often just a 'Hey!, he was mean to our friend, let's fuck him up!' Scenario. That's work for the GM's. Though again I question how that harassment you speak of actually looks like. Have you been harassed in such fashion or seen it? and if so, in what fashion? Because voicing distaste for a certain action/behavior and a Social Justice Warrior witch-hunt including constant PM's / Harassment in whichever form are two very seperate things. _________________________ As a last note; I think you ended up hurt yourself over the way some people reacted to you and the way you play your character. You mentioned that you play a Manipulative Character and that people reacted in such fashion. I'll assume that a good bit of this thread was posted for that very reason. If so, the only advice I can give you is this; Usually, you will not change people or the way they behave through a simple forum post like this. And whatever is aggrivating those around you, is aggrivating them for a reason. Now I'm not saying they're rightfully upset, but if it's a pattern that repeats itself for you, there's perhaps more to it then 'People suck because they can't handle how realistically i play my character' Either you're not explicit enough in your warnings, or you're ought to find yourself different roleplayers that are comfortable with maniplative / betraying characters. Playing Characters that are Anti-Social / Evil / Manipulative and playing them truthfully and to the core 'will' without a doubt rub some feathers the wrong way. Either way, You can either choose to invest in heavy OOC communication beforehand with the players you're involved in to avoid such drama, or you can bank on it that they will keep getting 'rubbed' the wrong way. Atleast those that have thin hides and take things personally. One way or another. If you want a more detailed answer to your rant, provide us with some more detailed examples please. Because so far this topic was nothing more then a; Bringing OOC IC is bad / Gossiping is Bad / Being a Hypocrite is bad thread. Which obviously everyone will agree on. Bring more detailed examples of those situations and then we might get somewhere.
  22. Well, I guess it's long overdue; Dis Me; Dis me seeing something 'What in the actual fuck' worthy; And my trusty companion!: Don't let that look fool you. She 'will' pee in your shoes if you don't feed her snacks.
