I think it all boils down to what the actual goal behind the debate is. Often times, debates, especially about lore are entered with an agenda. May that be enforcing your own opinion as the proper one through provided arguments or to have someone else change their perception to something more akin to the oppositions side. In itself, it isn't wrong as such. After all, Cohesion is a must for many in regards to Roleplay. And trying to get everyone on a similar page is quite beneficial aswell. Usually, the difference between a debate and an argument lies in the tonality, and whether it has a moving agenda, and the degree of respect for the other person and the ability to not take the debate personally. People can get defensive fast, and can presume a slight against a certain liberty with Canon lore to be akin to criticism to them, therein a prompt for them to not do it. Especially when it comes to lore, many people don't simply debate lore to find out what's right, they do it to be able to tell others that they should get their wrongs fixed. In the end, it largely depends on who you surround yourself with and how open the individuals you are with are to discussion. I personally come from communities where we'd argue and debate things to the death until a unified conclusion was achieved, and no one was upset or insulted by anyone participating in kind. However, there 'are' more frail minds out there, and to simply say 'they need to toughen' up is pretty redundant. They need to toughen up as much as you need to shut up, fact is, either consideration goes both ways or none. This however only counts for Public channels and Linkshells. If there's a thread titled "Discussing BLM in FFXIV", and you actively get into that topic trying to derail it with your sensitivities, and your 'personal hurt' in regards to what's said that, stay out of it. It is not a public channel, it is a discussion created for those willing to discuss it.

I sincerely hope you will not take this personal ; You are almost coming from a 'Victim' type of position at this point. The way you describe it is as if you expect players who are already playing to simply keep adding/including others into their plays on the sole basis that they should be required to do so. Putting yourself out there is your responsibility, having Roleplay is your responsibility. You cannot wait or expect others to create Roleplay for you, or to create scenarios for yourself to include yourself in. Some people do this, including myself, but the large majority often looks to others to start things over and mule when there's no one to do so. That being said, all those you see roleplaying already did something right, they approached eachother beforehand probably, did the OOC bits necessary and therefore are roleplaying. If you personally refuse to do such, or expect them to be as open as to include everyone they see not roleplaying into their own Roleplay, you will sadly remain stuck with no one to play with. From your standpoint this may seem harsh, but it 'is' fact. There's little to no incentive for people to simply 'add others' based on the fact that they are present, silent, and voice nothing. Also, from a Realism standpoint ; Take any type of public location, diner, Club, or such, and tell me what you see. The majority of people go about their business, dine with their friends, or party with their friends, and only if there's a good connection with others this circle expands during that time. However, it's almost never the case that you see every single person that enters a social establishment suddenly group with everyone in a social endevaour where everyone drinks together, talks together, dances together or such. The same applies to RP. It's illogical to expect that, simply because you're in the Quicksand, you will automatically be included in Roleplay. You have to be proactive. You have to take those first steps if you want to play with people that are essentially foreigners to you ICly and OOCly. I can fully understand if you may feel slighted and/or excluded for the fact that you see so many people playing with eachother, roleplaying, and you being left out. But take a minute to understand how their roleplay came about to be. They, like you, have started with no contacts, no people to play with, and had to 'put themselves out there', Either through OOC motions such as joining a FC, /telling people and making friends/contacts and/or creating forum adds describing the specific Roleplay they sought for. Through that, their contacts grow, the people they know grow, and eventually they have a stable base of people to play with. Roleplaying is always a pro-active endveaour. You need people that sit down with you, iniitate, and provide scenarios that 'feed rp', so to speak, and enable others to act towards it. If none of this is provided, you have everyone 'waiting', wondering why the get no roleplay. All that being said. It may seem harsh to you at first, but truly, this is the way things happen. If you wish to finally experience RP the way you look forward to it, you need to keep positive about it, and always understand that no one owes you anything in regards to attention or Roleplay. You have to grab their attention, see if they wish to roleplay with you. Atlast but not least, I would also like to mention that there's a distinct difference between a Clique, and a Group. Cliques exclude on the basis that they're 'too cool for noobs', or on the basis that they're 'too edgy to hang with scrubs'. A RP group therein is a group of players that frequently play with eachother, probably have a plot running for themselves in the background involving their group 'and' have put the necessary work into it to make it happen. To slam them for being social, active, and absorbed by what they helped create is akin to shaming a roleplayer for roleplaying. I guess, you could say the moral of my post is; You cannot assume a position of victimization and saying that 'the others are at fault' for not including you, If they have roleplay wherein you have none. They're clearly doing something right, something you're missing. Now you have a thread full of truly helpful input that could, if you took it as such, help you find exactly what you are looking for, yet you deny this as help, infact, you slam it as criticism. Again. I might've formulated bits of this harshly, but I hope it makes you understand where I'm coming from with this

Time for my 50 gil, I've followed your posts so far, and whlie I understand where you're coming from with 80 percent of your posts, (I shared similar believes in the past), there's however one thing that I think you should be aware of in regards to "OOC communication not being to everyones taste" I agree that initially, OOC communication can be distracting from mood and immersion if it is used to predetermine a majority of things that are to happen. Leaving things dynamic to a degree is never a bad thing, however; You need to differentiate between the various styles of Roleplay and the situation at hand. A public Bar as such probably invites to various walk ups and talks, after all ; A bar is a public place. Still, even there you might have people talk business at a table, and expect to be undisturbed. Sure, you can just try to initiate 'Roleplay' by walking up, and if you're dealing with good roleplayers they'll handle it ICly. Chances are just they'll handle it by Icly telling you to annoy some other patrons or get lost. Normal in IC aspect, but it may feel very rude to you as a player. It's not that they want to exclude you, don't wish to make you part of the play, but certain approaches simply do not work in certain scenarios, and expecting others to break character so you can keep your 100 percent immersion by not talking with others OOCly 'will' lead to such situations. OOC communication in my opinion is important for the following reason; (and perhaps im a minority in this regard). Every Character as such usually has facets and bits to him that the player would like to see exposed or present. A bard is not a bard if he does not sing to groups, a Soldier is not a Soldier if he never fights for his country, A Villain is not a Villain if all he does is menial bar socializing. Helping others, and therein, yourself to enable people to play their characters as they're meant to be portrayed can be the most healthy RP environment you can be in, and that requires you to know who the character you're playing with is, what he does, how he does it, what the player behind the character looks for in Roleplay, and and and. All of this can only be covered in OOC. A good example of this is if you read the RPC Wiki's of several characters. Often, they have rich, deep stories that saw their characters tackle meaningful fights, overarching scenarios and be part of more moving things. Fighting for their wives, rescuing those in need, and so on. Yet, once they hit the RP scene, you see absolutely nothing of that. They just sit around, chat, try to talk with people in bars, and that is all their RP revolves around. Socializing instead of pursuing your characters ambitions. In the end, it is probably a difference in RP flavor. I personally enjoy the occational Social RP, but I aim to have my RP somewhat story driven. That includes that my character has from time to time do the things that he does, and that wont work unless I clearly work it through with those I wish to involve OOCly beforehand.
-
OOC communication, for sure. While some may frown upon it as 'hardcore, always 24/7 in character' roleplayers, I personally understand OOC communication both as backbone and 'must-have' for roleplay to nurture and prosper in a good way. Another good suggestion ; Many roleplayers post on their profiles (Right Click / Examine player] tagging themselves as Roleplayer, and noting whether walk ups are welcome or not. Often times such hints alone are very valuable for you to see if there's some RP potential, so just check player profiles ingame from time to times.

! Alter Bridge is highly underrated, simply because Miles Kennedy in my eyes is starting to build quite a status, if only for the fact that even Slash is touring with him/ he's touring with Slash. Also, Edge.

Ho boy. The list would be massive, Considering Constantine was at odds with 'societal' norms from the get go. In his earlier ages he had ammassed a big streak of 'sins' so to speak. Lust; Thorough. In his early ages he's had his hand in a brothel or two, doing his bit to promote prostitution and the likes. Privately he's not much better. Very 'corrupted', so to speak. And therein enjoys corrupting others aswell. Nowadays though he tends rather to 'lure' people into such things. A very convincing, suggestive devil rather, until you suddenly find yourself in so deep you find little ways to get back out. Greed; Not in the financial sense, but certainly in a more philosophical 'concept of power' aspect. For a long time he's had a very steadfast desire to control everyone and everything in his life/proximity, which led to more then just one issue down the road, and one person..well, suffering under it. Wrath; Another of those 'Been there, done it bits'. Again, ties into his sadism. Envy; Also ironically a big one for him. While he 'felt' very in tune with himself, and has by now fully accepted himself for what he is and what he does, there was a time where he dreamt of those easy 'farm lifes' people dreamed upon, to settle with family, loving friends and simply living life in an easy, honest way. Coercion / Psychological Corruption; Perhaps the biggest one in this list. While not truly a Sin in itself, it's the one thing he does predominantly now. While, back in the day he would do alot of the 'dirty / wet work' himself, He's now become more of an alluring figure, Able to make you understand just why you should shank this specific competitor of yours, why it's your right to do so, why you would enjoy it and how it's just the natural course of things. That would cover the sins, if we'd go into established crimes ; Murder (Bountiful), Psychological torment/torture (Because an easy death can be a reward, and he makes sure it never is once he settles on actually killing someone personally. Which is very rare nowadays) Theft. Bribing officials. Extortion. ..So yeah, that's a handful. Makes him seem a bit of a one-trick pony with the whole darker themes going on. But alas, the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was making people believe he didn't exist, and that's pretty much part of him. To the general public, he makes sure that he appears like a simple, deep pocketed merchant or business figure.

Our Linkshell currently has 30 people and growing -

Don't worry, 99 percent of people around here are very helpful and forthcoming

It depends. For example, if you're un an open city environment, or a public pub like the quicksand, than I am rather sure that's a very open invitation to join in. There's no reason to visit a pub or the likes as a roleplayer to have a 'private play' so to speak, not involving others. Now, Should you encounter roleplayers in some secluded part of a map, doing things in /say, it might be that they're simply not expecting anyone to show up. Therein, a tell 'might' be better then just jumping into it. Otherwise I have to agree with the rest here. Most people that want things to stay private do so through grouping up with the individuals or taking the RP to /tells. If neither is present, just go for it, or throw them a short OOC question if you can butt in.

Everything Bethesda and Bioware churned out, plenty of JRPG's, VTMB, Witcher series and a few others.
-
Aye, that is what I meant. Therein, No more 'commissions', this'll serve simply to display the GFX work I do, Non-Commission ofcourse. Atleast non ingame-currency-gil-item based trades.

WoW gets shanked too badly. It's a great game, and probably the reason we have such games as FFXIV. without it's wild success the MMO scene wouldn't be what it is today. That being said, Welcome!

Someone ran me through several Lowbie dungeons in order so I could get my DPS class leveled, during a time where queues where so horrid that waiting for 2 hours was a standard. Good times.
-
So yeah, I've decided, after quite a hiatus, to make my return to RPC and FFXIV. Some of you already know this, to the rest, I'm looking forward ot making a few contacts or meeting some old people from days gone by
-
Aaand I'm back full time in FFXIV! Ofcourse, due to the new rules Commissions are not available anymore, but I shall abuse this thread then as a GFX Display place

t first sight, this Free Company seems naught but a simple group of deep pocketed Entrepeneurs, Dandys and other likeminded partisans, funded with profit alone in mind. The general public knows them as tradesmen, often times in the company of helpful students and assistants. Indeed, many would call them almost noble figures, known to trade fairly, justly, and follow principles that most merchants would consider quite noteworthy. Underneath however, rests a far more grim, and enticing reality. Indeed, those that consider themselves savvy in the trades of the Underworld shudder at the mention of it alone.. The mention of the Free Company known as ; Funded and founded several years prior to our current time, the Lucre Commerancy owes it's name to the few Libertines that chose to pool their resources, political acumen and leverage against some of the mightiest figures in Eorzea into one Network to ensure that their will would be contested by no state, no law, and certainly no morals. Considering only it's own laws as binding, the Lucre Commerancy exists in a twilight between being one of the most unlawful organization in Eorzea, spanning over the three City States, and at the same time can call itself one of the most well established, and hidden-in-plain-sight organizations out there. This, is mostly owned to the fact that the founding Libertines seem to ensure each time, that all monarchs, royals, or other important political figures end up either indebted, or otherwise bound to them, thus ensuring their silent acceptance. The few that are chosen and indoctrinated into the Commerancy find themselves surrounded by wealth, lust and all other things a man, or woman, may desire, and the further one reaches towards the top, the deeper the depravities and secrets run. From simple extortion, to elaborate debt schemes, down to right-out assassinations and funding of wars for profit and slavery, the Commerancy is a world of it's own, governed by laws of it's own. Those that are on the right side of it cherish their lavish and luxurious lifes they are enabled towards. Those indebted to it find themselves often in it for life, to serve it's needs and causes, never to taste true freedom again. After all.. All debts must be paid. In Blood, Flesh, or Coin. OOC Notes Well, there we go! That was the little introduction towards the Commerancy and it's little background history. Now onto the OOC part. The Commerancy as such is basically an 'Libertine/Immoral' Organization in which profit and the wealth of those that call themselves members of it are of highest importance. As the introduction may've hinted at, there's various spots to be filled, various characters able to join, on any side of the spectrum. If you're interested, feel free to check us out at our homepage HouseLibertine.TK If you are currently in another FC, yet would still like to participate in our RP-Group, You'll be given a Linkshell invite and ofcourse you're still welcome to join the forums and participate. to contact us, do so via; Ingame; (Constantine Charneoux) or Skype; (Dante_dgx / ) or A PM at these boards

I'd rather call the instance of 'bigwigs' acting smart and better then everyone else as hubris, arrogance and largely motivated by a broken ego then anything else. It is not a role per-say because they don't actively go (Here's me, here's the character I will assume called Johny the CEO), but rather that they're convinced that they actually are said person. Although treading any further down this discussion we'd end up with a debate over the concept of self, indentity, Ego and so on, things to which we've still no clear answers to. Still, I'd argue that the roles we assume in life are nowhere close to the concept of 'Roleplaying' that we have in games and fantasy settings. The real world exists in very defined, constricted rules that define 'reality', whereas roleplaying often aims to break these rules to escape said reality.

I don't believe Roleplaying will ever go Mainstream, for various reasons. Roleplaying at large can be a great source of inspiration; an exercise in writing prowess, something to inspire you to learn a language (I've learned English predominantly through roleplaying), To 'broaden' your horizon by exposing yourself to conflicting ideals and ideas. The moment you commit to Roleplay a scientist you may end up reading up on mathematics, equations, and the likes. The moment you play a religious purist, you will confront theology and the likes. Philosophy even. Play a revenge tale, criminal, whatever, and you are constantly pushed and proned to explore different facets of the mind. Sometimes it's simply a mirror-image of what pop-culture teaches us about these things, some people take it further and take a more realistic 'inspiration' towards these character tropes. Roleplaying in a way emulates real life, or atleast the interpretation of real life that comes through fantasy, depending how 'deep down' the rabbit hole you go. And this is where the crux comes in; Escapism. Roleplaying, as much as it can be a productive and 'harmless' thing to do, is and remains a form of Escapism from what we all would call the 'real world'. Some of us try to reason that it's a novel exercise, that it has purpose, and is not just a pointless hobby to escape reality. And those that advocate it as such are half-right. The other half however speaks in certain facts we simply can't ommit; 1: )Roleplaying consumes a massive amount of time, 2: )It brings you nothing productive whatsoever, there's nothing to be gained from it, except in terms of inspiration. 3: )It makes you isolate yourself from the 'Real world'. Sitting infront of your computer screen for hours on end after school/work is 'not' as natural and normal as most of us would like it to be. In the end, I'd say Roleplayers are nothing else then the more defined, glorified and evolved version of what once used to be the daydreamers, or comic book fans, with their minds constantly swiveling around 'other worlds' where they indulge in the fantasies they cannot live out in real life. The Hero, the Successful businessman, the Villain that gets away with more then we could in our own lifes. But it is also why it's never going to be 'mainstream'. Our societies do not glorify hobbies, they glorify competitive exploits. Racing, MMA, Olympic Sports, Poker. Even Video games begin to gain credibility as mainstream material, 'ASLONG' they're competitive (Starcraft / MOBA's / etc) So a world in which Roleplaying would be 'mainstream', would be a world where we'd flip that upside down and glorify non-competitive material. You'd see TV channels covering people knitting, Authors write their books, and so on. This all may sound very anti-RP to most, but it really isn't. It's simply my personal, honest take on it. It is a nice 'indulgence', but it conforms to a niche of people that prefer isolation towards the outside world. Introverts, mostly. Knowing that, I would never want it to be mainstream. Roleplaying can be like a drug, in the way that, without moderation, it takes more of your time then you feasibly should invest into it.

Liadan MTed me the most steamy stuff I've ever seen. I dare not repeat it here due to its graphic content. For shame, Liadan. For shame. You too? @@ ;;;; Where patterns emerge, a system usually hides underneath. -nod nod-
