New to FFXIV and RP

Man it's been so long since I've done one of these.  It's so different from IRC (and being a regular)  Anyway, I just purchased FFXIV.  I have a history of playing WoW in years past, and after watching a friend play, and playing on the trial a bit, I've decided to make a go of it.  Due to restrictions, I currently have a new character on Gilgamesh, but I'm going to be keeping an eye out this afternoon before/after the patch hits to try to grab a spot on Balmung, or wait a few days and do a transfer.  

 

This will be my first real experience with RP, and I have to say, I'm looking forward to it. It should be an interesting experience for sure.  I wonder if this is where I post the backstory I spent an hour or so writing this morning while I was at work, or should hang onto that till later? 

Anyway, it's good to meet all of you, and I look forward to playing with you all in the future

Welcome to 14 and to Gilgamesh for now. If you'd like to post your backstory, you can do so in the Gilgamesh or Balmung Directory section and if you click on that link up top that says "Wiki", you'll be taken to the character wiki database area where tutorials abound on how to create one of your very own!

I'm sure you'll find some lovely folks in Gilgamesh, so mayhaps you won't need to suffer the agony of trying to chip in to the Balmung server restrictions...because, seriously, those restrictions are just. Just terrible.

 

On point, I hope that we get to interact in-forum, if not in-game. There's lots of places you can put your personal journal information. Even make your own character wiki or create a character journal in the IC forum.

I too, am just fairly new with RP and FFXIV.

Wish you a ton of luck and a lot of fun to be had!

 

Also, regarding the whole "Balmung Open" things, if you have the spare $20.00 I would recommend just doing a server transfer. I tried to get into Balmung for other a week until I decided to pay for the transfer. Best decision in the game so far.

You are free to also post what you had in mind for your character here in this thread if you wanted!

 

I wish you luck in your endeavor in entering Balmung. There is a possibility that in the last few minutes before 3pm PST and maintenance starts that you can throw a character in. You are also welcome to try to wake up at ~ 4am PST to try later in the week or the transfer.

One large benefit to working the night shift is that I happened to log on on my laptop around 4:30AM ET, and was able to make my character on Balmung. Thank you patch day and servers going up 2 hours earlier than planned~

 

I'm working on a char wiki and will post that in Balmung directory soon.

Man, I remember using IRC. Been so long. So, so long...

 

Oh! Where was I? Um, welcome to FFXIV and to Balmung! I know how daunting it can be coming into MMO RPs, but stick with it! Ul'dah seems to be the main hub for getting into random RP, due to the virtue of it having the Quicksand, but hopefully you'll find yourself some friends over in the Shroud, too!
