Some general (Ishgard mostly) questions

Well, backstory isn't strictly necessary!  But if you're bored with her current RP there are many ways to shake that up.  What is it you like about the tea house in particular?  Do you have any thoughts or plans for it?  Its in Aleport right? (full disclosure: you know I love the tea house!)

The teahouse is something Ophelia made because she loves to help and take care of others. She made the tea-tavern specifically to have high quality drinks and home styled cooked foods at lower prices for weary travellers, and made sure to include an inn. (the only consistent part of her history was that she had a comfortable inheritance, most of which was spent to build the tea tavern). I don't want to give that up. I legit do not see a point in making an Ophelia clone who happens to have a teahouse just so I can be an au ra.

 

Edit: Right, plans. It's mainly a cozy RP spot for those who used to tell me they'd never go to a more bar-like tavern. This was sort of like an 'upscale' bar..ish. Bakery..restaraunt whatever. It welcomes everyone. My plans in the future included actually RP employees as well as events/performances/etc.

 

I honestly am still very set (apparently, despite my earlier moment of discouragement in another post) to change her. I really, really want to do it. I just wanted to do it in a way that wouldn't rustle too many jimmies and didn't seem stupid. The only main trick to it was explaining why she'd been a miqo'te all this time to begin with.

If you're that set on the change, and you think it will make the game that much more enjoyable for you, then perhaps it is best just to go ahead with it and not worry too much about the justification.  Just shrug and offer a sly smirk if anyone asks about it!

In all honesty I was kind of freaking out and stressing during the course of this thread, so I really appreciate those of you who give that sentiment. I've met a lot of people who are very firm on not letting people just kind of enjoy their hobby.

 

Also that's one of my favorite south park episodes/quotes so that also helped.

If thinking about the story is stressful rather than interesting, then it's not worth focusing on. Ultimately RP is about fun, and sometimes a wink and a nod is just more appropriate

Some words of advice:

 

Don't worry about what others think of what, or how you want to RP.

Unless they pay for your game, along with your sub, and pay to direct your gaming time, feel free to RP however you want.

 

If you want to RP as the tutu wearing 3rd Moon Goddess who revolves around Minfila's butt singing "Jesus Loves Me".....feel free to do just that!

 

Just kwno that, no matter how you RP, someone somewhere is probably going to disapprove. Just surround yourself with those who don't mind, and you will be fine.

thank you for everyone's input, i think i have the answers i needed now. Not the ones i was hoping for, but I guess the ones that I needed. I admit, I feel kind of stupid at this point because with all of this, in hindsight, it seems like a stupid idea.  I don't want to kill off ophelia, but i don't want to make a new Rp character (i don't care about the game unlocks or achievements, i have no issue levelling a new character). I just don't want a new RP character and for whatever reason had a strong desire to make Ophelia the au ra, but, I don't think I want to anymore.

 

You don't have to kill her, there's always the option of just retiring her and turning the character into the AuRa. It's what I'm doing with Rakka'li.

Thank you. I was never really going to change the story I came up with. I know that it won't even be effected by whatever Au Ri lore comes out either, to be honest (she was raised in Limsa still, all this stuff) and if her daddy was an Ishgardian who married someone who was not Isghardian, that's still bad from what I understand, regardless of race.

 

I really just wanted help brainstorming as to why she would have been a Miqo'te until this point, without it being one of the "cheap" Fantasia reasons. I really wanted a story behind it. Like even with glamouring, even if it was hard to come by or you could only get it from the antagonists, I don't think that would have mattered to him, he still might seek that kind of person out (but I realize the other issues with this idea that were discussed earlier).

 

I'm really grateful that people have pointed out lore points that I wasn't aware of yet, because I really love to learn regardless of the topic or world.

 

But yeah that was just my main thing. I wanted a good story and help coming up with that story as to why she'd be a miqo'te now at the moment if she was born an Au Ra. Since the racism seems to be a big thing against this race, it seemed like a good plot device to use. But that's about as far as I got.

 

EDIT: Just saw your post Rakka. I don't have any desire or intent of retiring Ophelia because I want to keep her personality, habits, traits, teahouse, everything. And I really feel like it's a cheap move to just retire her and then create another character who's the exact same thing just for the sake of a game update. I wanted to incorporate the change into Ophelia and her story directly somehow (see above).

I want to keep Ophelia's personality, her talents and everything, and her teahouse. And it feels very cheap to me to make an Au Ra alt that is literally just Ophelia anyway, including a teahouse that I really love to have, and just get rid of the original Ophelia.

 

 

I'm pretty much writing reasons for my AuRa to end up with Rakka'li's house. There's absolutely nothing wrong with doing so to retain your RP desires.

 

In fact my AuRa is going to be a remake of a character I RP'd in another game, one I had way more fun with than I ever had with Rakka'li.
