1. I'm going to terrorize your bowels
2. I really dig this character and the person playing them is just as awesome. Super friendly, super helpful and a great writer. I wouldn't have had much success in getting myself to actually start RPing had this person not approached me at an event and taken me under their wing.
3. Thanks so much for your posts and your time, guys! Excited to meet some new characters in-game.
4. A young immigrant Doman has been making it known at tourneys and taverns that he seeks honorable Eorzean warriors to learn from. Who? Haecid, a Doman refugee seeks to leave his tragic past behind and fulfill his dreams of becoming a legendary Eorzean knight, dispensing righteous justice across the land. He currently hunts wild game to survive, earning a meager living in Thanalan, saving his coin to fund his fantasy. The next step towards achieving that dream is learning as a humble squire to a (presumably) chivalrous Eorzean fighter. He aspires to learn the way of the sword, the shield, the lance, the greatsword and whatever else you might imagine being held aloft in an old, knightly storybook. He wishes to adopt knightly virtues like selflessness, bald-faced bravery, honesty and charity. He also strives to break his relative solitude, find camaraderie and learn the social paradigms of this foreign land. He will do anything to accomplish these goals. You know, he's that guy. Very naive, fairly innocent, the white knight in training, always seeking quests, justice and adventure. OOCly, I'm still a fledgling RPer trying to force myself into actually RPing. I'd love to find a suitable Free Company, but contacts/friends/tutors are just as valuable. Actually doing content is great, too, (fairly geared ninja) but is very secondary at this point to getting my RP-legs under me. Availability is all over the place, often times I'm up at normal American times, often times I'm up at normal American vampire (European) times. If you're someone with knowledge to pass on, ranks to fill or a person who thinks this wide-eyed fool would make a useful, malleable tool, this post is for you!
5. Haecid was born and raised in Othard, orphaned as a small child, adopted and raised by a low-ranking Raen merchant. He's not sure how old he is, he guesses around 20ish. It's unknown who his parents were, he only remembers his forename and his adoptive father was not among the nobility, nor did his family take a surname. In character, he has no last name but is open to adopting one. He grew up as a sort of outcast, learning how to read and write from his father, devoting nearly all of his time and energy towards acquiring Eorzean texts about knights, noble adventurers and their tales. So obsessed with this other world, he would try to emulate their ideals of honor and chivalry; he sought out dangerous beasts to slay and noble ladies to rescue. Eventually, he fell for a girl from a high-ranking family in his village, frequently embarrassing her with his foreign, chivalrous advances and he held out hope that his woo-pitching might convince her to spend her life with such a lowly squire as he. Garlemald came. He still tries to block out the specific, visceral details of the events. The band of villages' noble warrior class fought to defend their land. After they lost, the Garleans did not appreciate their defiance. They chose a child from each of the noble families to execute as punishment. Many died in defiance; Haecid should have been among them, he had failed. He flees in exile after making a promise to his father while still in shock: he'll travel to Eorzea, he'll become a great knight, a legendary hero, and he'll return to rid the land of the dragon called Garlemald. I've never really written about a character before, but I keep putting these pieces together while playing the game (and while not playing the game) and I really felt like putting them somewhere. Now I just really need to summon the bravery to actually try to RP, like I had to to make this post.
6. I ruminated on this for a very long time. Many candidates were put forward to a council of mine own choosing. I went with Restless Leg.
7. I remember one time Godbert took his family to the beach. They were watching Leviathan the Whorleater when Godbert got splashed. So Godbert yells, "I'm Godbert Manderville and no one gets me wet!' So he climbs into the water, grabs Leviathan, and throws the fish onto the beach, splashes him and yells, "How do YOU like it?!" And then damn if Godbert didn't step in there and finish the show. Did I ever tell you about the time Godbert Manderville showed up at my daughter's Ceremony of Eternal Bonding? You know my daughter, she's a beautiful girl. Well, Godbert shows up and you know, he's a big fella, he goes about 7'10", 590. Well, he's standing right between me and my daughter at the ceremony. He's got no right to be there, but he's drunk and he's Godbert. Well, long story short, the priest accidentally marries me and Godbert. We spend the weekend in Costa del Sol - he loved me like I've never been loved before.
8. The idea I've been kicking around is a refugee Au Ra who went into hiding, glamoured as a highlander in Ala Mhigo and scraped by via skullduggery/mercenary work. Then, of course, he's displaced yet again by the Garleans, begins working as an adventurer/"security specialist" in the city states until the re-emergence of the Au Ra. Struggling with highlander and Au Ra identity, trying to get away from dishonest work, aspires to be a valiant, renowned knight. Obviously, this is all nearly completely made up and dependent on how the lore actually shakes out. These are the things I tinker with in my mind about my character I haven't actually RP'd with yet while I'm wallowing in my queues on this new server. All of this is even more dependent on whether or not I actually like how they look.
9. Hey, Hydaelyn (every time I read this word it's in that drawn out old Louisoix voice from the cinematic) Roleplayers Coalition. I've been lurking around the server now for about 16 levels on two War professions but I played for a couple of months on another server at ARR/re-launch. I've tried RPing in a couple of different MMOs briefly and I've always wanted to try it in FFXI/now FFXIV, a game with very rich writing and lore. Still need to break myself of being far too timid to RP. Ridiculously impressed with what I've seen so far, especially the housing neighborhoods. Only disappointments are that the neighborhoods themselves seem like ghost towns and that the low-level areas are near-empty, I'm guessing because the server is nearly perpetually population-locked. I wouldn't even bother with the introductory thread (again, too sheepish) except I do have a few questions. Before I left the game, I could swear yell chat was absolutely bustling, at least in hubs and cities, mostly with trade offers, recruitment and people looking for pick up groups/members. Along with my old server (even in Mor Dhona) and this new one, this does not seem to be the case any longer. What am I missing? Is there a magical floating city in the sky somewhere that all of the veterans have moved on to? Has everyone politely moved into various public linkshells? My other question, besides "what's the cover charge/drink minimum for the magical floating city" would be what linkshells I should look into? I know, there's a section dedicated to it, and I have been browsing it, but any input would be welcome. As to what kind, certainly the must-haves (guessing they don't actually exist) that might have replaced all of the yell-chat spam, and any populous ones fit for a fledgling RPer playing a friendly but suspicious self-titled knight. I appreciate any help in advance. Obligatory Final Fantasy emote.:tonberry:
