  1. Getting back into the RP groove. 4bXrHtUbxJc
  2. As I mentioned, i'm fully aware that i'm likely overthinking and potentially over complicating things. And since i'm already going down that route... I would throw out a counter argument to the idea of the Qestir being unable to read outside languages. Given that one of the tribes attempts to trick the merchant out of his wares, showing that certain tribes aren't against underhanded tactics to get ahead with the Naadam so close, why not offer to write a letter for an outsider? Surely if the Qestir were open to written language then they would logically know the written system within the Steppes and that would have been a far more subtle way for that tribe to go about their trickery. The merchant would get a letter that the Qestir could understand. The tribe could have potentially gotten the wares they desired out of the exchange. Of course it's entirely possible that, like I said, i'm applying too much logic to an aspect of the game that wasn't meant to be nitpicked.
  3. I’ll preface this two cents by stating that I personally cannot provide concrete evidence for or against Qestir specifically allowing written language. Here’s my personal issue with the idea though and it could simply be a case of applying too much logic to the lore in this instance. In Reunion there’s a quest chain where you assist a merchant with negotiating permission to sell within the settlement. He naturally attempts to speak with the Qestir, which we know the tribe is against, and eventually turns to the other tribe representatives in the area for assistance. These individuals, from what I can recall off the top of my head, essentially tell him to communicate via the Qestir customs, so by showing actions instead of speaking words. Now logically if the Qestir were open to written words surely they would be open to a form of written negotiation. One would assume that at least one person within that area would suggest writing a request instead of talking at them if that were the case.
  4. I have to admit that this is an aspect I kind of want to toyaround with. Perhaps it’s simply due to the company I keep but I see anumber of people who seem to strangely assume that a Qestir tribe member will be completely mute and restricted to body language and facial expressions only due to their lore stating very specifically that they refrain from using words. We’re given the in-game example of them refraining from spoken language and given the tribe description we assume that they also avoid written language and signing. It honestly fascinates me that people think a character must be completely silent when the only thing they’re technically restricted from is the use of words. Especially when it's clearly a taught concept, there's the potential for sound slip ups right there.
  5. I. Basic Info Characters: Naqu Qestir Primary character: Same as above. Linkshells: N/A – Currently looking. Primary RP linkshell:N/A II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Primarily medium/heavy although I would also be open to light. I would be willing to adapt to another person’s preference on a case by case basis. Views on RP combat and injuries: Minor injuries are fine without a previous in-depth conversation, a simple ‘hey can I do this’ would be fine. So minor cuts, bruises and the like. Major injures such as bone breaks and worse would need an in-depth conversation to outline the events, outcome and perhaps more importantly the ‘why’. I’m generally not one to play out heavy injuries on a whim unless there’s some sort of background leading up to it. Views on IC romance: I won’t rule this one out entirely. I will say that given the age of the character I would prefer to stay away from anything too heavy. More of a lean towards cute than something overly serious. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I’m more than willing to set up something outside of romantic RP. Given that the character is a Xaela I would particularly interested in finding other characters of the same race or of the same tribe. Views on lore: While I would prefer to keep as close to the lore as possible, I won’t begrudge someone else for straying a little if it means that the RP encounter is more interesting and enjoyable for it. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /say, /yell and /emotes are IC unless the ‘RP’ tag is off. /party, /tell are on a case by case basis. The latter being OOC by default. /linkshell, /fc would also fall under case by case basis. III. Other Info Country: UK Timezone: GMT/BST – Note that I’m most active during the late night so my timing tends to line up with NA players. 7. Hello everyone. Long time FFXIV player, old hand at roleplaying. Been playing the game for a couple of years now and while my interest in it hasn’t waned I thought I’d try to combine it with an old hobby to try something new and hopefully find a new way to enjoy the game. That and I need a break from weekly tome grinding every now and then. I’ve admittedly been out of the roleplaying habit for about a year now, I was based on dreamwidth so old games closed and I had a lack of interest in the new ones opening, and I’ve never roleplayed through a game format before but I want to give this a try. I have had a look around FFXIV’s RP community in the past but I never managed to quite find the confidence to attempt it. Anyway I’ll be running a Xaela by the name of Naqu Qestir for anyone who happens to be on Mateus. Looking forward to hopefully seeing some of you around.
