  1. Hi, As posted here I'm looking for an Elezen family in Grinadia to adopt Teah. Having read your background I see you would consider this, but I fully understand if you feel this wouldn't work in this case. I'd be more than happy to use the family lastname.
  2. I haven't played a Final Fantasy game before, apart from a brief trial of FFIX. The name 'Mike' does sound quite modern to me but that wouldn't stop me from roleplaying with someone using that name assuming that their roleplay was acceptable.
  3. Have a read of the naming conventions for Hyur in this article. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Hyur
  4. Seeing you're from the UK I'll post a absolutely not witty mention of a Linkshell on the Balmung server that may be of interest to you. Europa
  5. Sorry. I must admit that I haven't watch the video but the way you describe it does make a lot of sense, I like it.
  6. In the animal kingdom not all matriarchal groups allow every female to mate, from http://www.doublexscience.org/dominants-alphas-and-queens-or-happy-mothers-day/ If this was how Keeper families worked then it would explain why some young females and perhaps males leave their family group.
  7. @sanguineFenrir Taeh also grew up in Gridania and is of a similar age (I haven't settled on a particular age yet) so they could know each other from childhood. Although as Kevaraan moved away when he was 8 they might not remember each other. Taeh is an orphan raised by an Elezen family in Gridania. Anyone who has a character, main or alt, that is part of an Elezen family based in Gridania that likes the idea of having an adopted Keeper of the Moon as part of the family please let me know. Taeh's Miqo'te extended family was killed by a party of Wood Wailers who were attempting to stop Miqo'et poachers. I'm not totally set on this set, it could be some other species that killed them. However if anyone likes the idea of being either involved, knowing or related to this event again please let me know.
  8. Although not that common I think it's an interesting enough idea to use. However I don't plan on making my character think she is Elezen just because she's been raised by them.
  9. II. RP Style Characters: Taeh Marchand , Kaylel Wilder , Calkrow Greystone , Mordelle T'Varr Primary character: Taeh Dubois Linkshells: Europa Primary RP linkshell: II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I'm quite happy to play at whatever level the people I'm interacting with are playing. I'd describe my own roleplay style as immersive meaning that I try to roleplay my way through the game, which isn't quite the same as saying I'm always in character. I do occasionally go out-of-character but it tends to be when there is no one around who I could be interacting with. Views on RP combat and injuries: I've not been involved in roleplay combat much. I did have someone once explain a quite comprehensive roleplay combat system but although happy to use it if someone really wants to it seemed a bit too much for my preference. Views on IC romance: I believe I'm good at keep the character and player separate, so have no problem playing any form of interaction I don't go out looking to form IC romantic relationships and would probably not reciprocate if someone tried to start such a relationship with one of my characters. However I wouldn't rule it out if two characters had known each other a long time and it fit in with the circumstances the characters found themselves in. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Absolutely fine with this. In fact I've asked about this in this thread. Views on lore: I try as much as possible to stay within the lore and try not to add any more detail than is necessary incase it contradicts the lore. When I encounter a character whose background doesn't fit how I respond very much depends on (a) how outside the lore they are (b) who they try to interact with my character. So I might do minimal roleplay interaction or even totally ignore someone. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Spacial channels should always be IC, except in exceptional circumstances in which case I use double brackets to identify OOC. Non-spacial channels I don't mind as long as the rules and purpose are clear. I'm not particular keen for a channel that is mixed IC / OOC usage when it isn't clear which is which. III. Other Info Country: UK Timezone: UK time. Why do I use that term? In my past experience most non-UK people get confused that we are GMT in the winter and BST in the summer. In the UK not only do we do daylight saving but we actually refer to it by a different name. Contact info: PM me here on the forums although I'll share other contact details with people I'm communicating with regularly. 10. I've changed my username on these forums from gitm to Taeh Dubois who will be my main character during beta 4. The link in the original post still works though. Sadly I'm away for most of Sat 17 Aug and Sun 18 Aug so won't be able to get involved in the Linkshell for most of this beta phase.
  11. If you're based in the EU or play at EU prime time then there is also a Looking for Roleplay OOC Linkshell for like minded individuals. Europa
  12. It's a nice straightforward idea for a background. However like you I don't know if Seekers and Keepers would behave like that to each other. It sounds feasible from how big cats interact in our world. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether Seekers and Keepers could behave like this?
  13. One of the reasons I like FFXIV:ARR is that the combat isn't fast paced or twitch orientated. As for the trend in MMOs then I think a certain amount of this is down to the blurring between MMORPGs and MMOother game types such a first person shooters. Does any of this effect roleplay? Unless you're using the combat as part of roleplay I don't think so. Having said that though I always have to sit on my hands when I'm roleplaying with anyone who I realize is a slow typer. :bouncy:
  14. Welcome to the RPC. There are some threads that you may find of particular interest to EU players. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2846 http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3423 There is also a EU OOC Linkshell planned for the server Balmung. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026
  15. Firstly I hope that no one else has had this idea and I've missed their posts about it. I'm thinking of making my Keeper an orphan whose parents were killed when she was very young and was then raised by an Elezen family in Gridania. Does anyone have anyone have a Wildwood Elezen family based in Gridania who is interested in the idea of an adopted daughter/sister as part of their family? The characters name is 'Taeh' but she was too young to remember her family name so will use her adopted family's name. I'm also considering that her parents and extended family, that is everyone except her, were killed whilst out hunting in the Black Shroud by a party of Wood Wailers out to stop poaching. The Wood Wailers were lead by a Wildwood who was highly Xenophobic and the encounter with the hunting party got completely out of hand resulting in death of all the Keepers except Tae and some some severe injures to a few of the Wood Wailers. Tae only survived because the youngest Wood Wailer intervened and took pity on her. (I need to refine the detail of this part.) Anyone with a character in Gridania who would like to have taken part in that encounter? Perhaps the saviour, who doesn't have to be related to the family that adopted her, or even the leader.
  16. I'm thinking of making my Keeper an orphan who was raised by Elezen parents in Gridania from a very young age, so she wouldn't be part of a family at the start. However if there was a Keeper family being roleplayed she would like show an interest as she know little of Keeper family life.
  17. I came across this website in a thread on different forums. Appears safe to use. http://arrstatus.com/
  18. I run the game in a Window and use the built-in 'Snipping Tool' under Accessories.
  19. I'm still working on my characters, I only know for sure that they'll be more than one because I'm a complete altaholic. The four ideas I have so far:
  20. Ditto, although I did play for about 2 weeks of the 1.0 on Ragnorok.
  21. When I've been involved in the setup and/or running of guilds I've always thought that is was a good idea for the players to get to know each other as well as their characters getting to know each other through RP. For that reason I always advocate that guild chat is ooc (although I don't object to it being ic) and then use other channels for RP communication including long distant if the lore of the game supports, e.g. radios in The Secret World. So having both Free Companies and Linkshells available makes this very easy. In fact I see no reason why they couldn't be part of the same 'guild' who use the Free Company channel for ooc and a linkshell for ic. I have a rough idea for a guild based on something like this:
  22. I really like the name, it sounds good and rolls of the tongue. However it sounds to me a bit more Spanish or Latin American rather than the Anglo Saxon, Celtic, or Briton names for Midlanders; but maybe that's part of the character's background. I know my male Midlander's name is a bit different. I rate it 7.5/10. I've not settled on a single character yet, and I may not, I'm a complete altaholic. All these ideas are works in progress so any comments and feedback gratefully received. Male - Hyur - Midlander ----------------------- {Older man than character create lets me make} Calkrow Lyndez - Comes from a small remote village of very reclusive people who are actually descendants of the people from the Island of Nym. He has been sent out by the village to find out what is going on after the time slip event. Female - Hyur - Midlander ----------------------- Kaylel Wilder - A former servant/maid from one of the powerful houses in Ul'dah. Has left, perhaps run away, for a life of adventure. Female - Miqo'Te - Keepers of the Moon -------------------------------------- Taeh Lehl (pronounced by non-Miqo'Te as Tae Lel) - Background still undecided Female - Elezen - Duskwight --------------------------- Mordelle T'Varr - Believes that the isolationist view of her people is wrong, keen to explore the world.
  23. My pre-order was definatley for a PC CE, I'm looking at the e-mail confirmation now, but in the e-mail with the pre-order code I'm thinking I've been sent a PS3 code.
  24. I ordered a physical CE from Game (UK) and received an e-mail straightway with a pre-order code. However I'm concerned that it's the wrong sort of code, as this is what I received. You can now enjoy: FFXIV Preorder Bonus Activation code: XXXXXX-XXX-XXXXXX-XXX Obviously I've removed the actual characters but the format gives 18 characters if I ignore the dashes or 21 if I include them.
