Grats us, but Rinh brings up an important point with this. Quite a few people have started using it for general chat about all sorts of stuff and at times this becomes just a constant flow of text down the screen. Rinh and I accept that people want to chat but we feel that important messages are getting lost in the constant flow, this will sadly make some people feel alienated. If you go back to the original post it clear states what the channel is to be used for; please refrain from using it just for general chat. If you have a group of friends you want to chat to constantly feel free to make your own Linkshell and chat there to your heart's content.

The subject of graphics cards came up in a Linkshell today. Upgrading to or buying the correct graphics card is probably one of the most important things you can do to improve the frames per second (fps) in a game. There is perhaps the popular misconception that a newer graphics card will always be better than an older one, however that is not always the case. It is usually true that the lower end cards in a new range are not as good as the top end cards in a previous range. This link provides a useful hierarchy of different graphics processors and allows a reasonable comparison of one model against another; of course your mileage might vary. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

Getting (All) Time Zones Organized
Taeh Niumoenwyn replied to Taeh Niumoenwyn's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Anyone who has read this thread will know that Kylin is kindly offering to add a drop-down list to new posts in the two server events forums so that event organizers can make it clearer what time zone the event is occurring in. This in no way means that people outside the stated time zone can't attend but it is meant to make it easier for people to work out which events they can attend. In both that thread and this one I've stated, and none of the other posters have dissented, that a single entry for the EU time zone is sufficient. It would be useful if some players who play at NA prime time(s) give their thought on whether a single option is okay for NA or whether there should be multiple options, e.g. East Coast and West Coast. I've like to ask Kylin to put the new drop-down list in operation but I think we need a view on the options for NA first. -
Even if you don't think Penanna would be part of the household as a retainer or crafter there is probably still an opportunity to interact with members of the house. Might help you get settled into the RP in Gridania. I've also spotted that you're from the UK, you might like to join an OOC Linkshell for arranging RP, parties, etc. for people that play at EU prime time, it's called Europa.

Have you had a look at House Marchand.

[EU] EEC's Moonfire Carnival, 21 Sep
Taeh Niumoenwyn replied to Rinh Hallani's topic in Chronicled Events
Sounds great although not quite Taeh's kind of event; but if she isn't working I'm sure Kaylel would come along. -
There can be quite reasonable explanations for unusual names. For example, Taeh's family where killed when she was only 2-3 years old, she knew her own name but not her family name; so she uses the family name of the Elezen family that adopted her.

I think it depends on what happens if you use the option but don't have a target. If it runs as though the wasn't there they you're sorted, just make sure you don't have a target when you use it if you don't want to wink at someone The other option might be to use a mouse over macro. I found a useful guide here http://eorzeareborn.com/macro-overview/.

Getting (All) Time Zones Organized
Taeh Niumoenwyn replied to Taeh Niumoenwyn's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Whilst most of the EU only covers a time difference of 2 hours I believe that NA covers 4 or 5 hours, so they may prefer to split theirs to East Coast and West Coast. Honestly, for consistency's sake, it'd be better to just use PST, as everything official for the game (NA-side, at least) utilizes that timezone anyway. I was more making the point that most EU players are playing at roughly the same time; so an event organised for 8pm UK time would be at 9pm for Central Europe and 10on for Eastern Europe. In contrast an event organised for 8pm on the East Coast would be happening at 4pm on the West Coast; and an 8pm West Coast event would be at mid-night on the East Coast. This makes it less practical for them to share events unless they are of an extended duration. So NA players might want to organise themselves into more than one group. -
Thanks everyone for coming. Hope you enjoyed the event.

Perhaps not the best title for the thread but please bear with me as I try and explain what this is about. I'm sure this will elicit some, perhaps heated, discussion but please keep it civil and accept that everyone is entitled to their own view and opinion. Also please keep to the subject under discussion. There was chat in the Europa Linkshell recently (click here for info on Europa) about needing to be better able to organize things for the people playing at EU prime time. The main request by those who brought this up was a separate forum for EU prime time players. Whilst as one of the co-leaders of Europa I didn’t think this was necessary I did agree to post this thread to allow it to be discussed in an open environment. Personally I feel that a separate forum to EU prime time players isn’t necessary because there is everything we need in the selection of forums already available. I also thought that if Europa was granted a separate forum then every other Free Company and/or Linkshell might also request their own as well. With that thought in mind I doubt the forums admins would create one for Europa. Now perhaps a separate for each of the main time zones would be useful, although personally I'm still not convinced it is needed. My counter suggestion to creating a separate forum is to have a standard that is used, particularly in the server events forums, to identify threads that are meant for a particular time zone. Although this isn’t meant to mean that an event is exclusively for players in that time zone. For example, in the title for an event it could start with an indicator of the time zone the event is planned for so you would see: [EU] Tavern Night, Sunday 8 September Now for this to be useful everyone would have to stick to this else those events that didn’t have the agreed information in the title would still have to be read in detail to try and work out when it was taking place. The actual agreed standard is still open for discussion. So as promised to those in the Europa Linkshell, here is the thread for you to explain in more detail what it is you are looking for and how you think those requirements can be met.

Although they look legitimate, which is why they fool people, the problem is in the links that are embedded in the message. Depending on your e-mail client and/or web browser if you hover the mouse over the link the true link beneath the text is often visible in the status bar. For example you might think this link takes you to the BBC News webiste - http://news.bbc.co.uk/ but it will actually take you to Microsoft's website. If the website the fake link takes you to looks like a genuine Square Enix page you'd be tempted to put your username and password in. After this it would probably show an error or perhaps a message saying they'll looking into the problem. However what you've actually done is given the hackers the details they need to login into your account.

Regarding Results of Maintenance (Sep. 4)
Taeh Niumoenwyn replied to Taeh Niumoenwyn's topic in FFXIV News
I wonder how much has been caused by the mad rush to get back onto the servers (especially by all those AFK players) now that everything is 'fixed'. -
It could also be that the patch servers are being hit so hard at the moment that the error message (the numbers can be different) might mean you can't connect to it. Fingers crossed and keep trying.
-
You may have already tried this; when I got this yesterday it took a reboot for the problem to go away. I don't know if that fixed it or whether it was fixed at Square's end during the time I took to do the reboot.

If you've got the time the info in this thread - A comprehensive look at the Seventh Umbral Era story arc [1.0] should hopefully tell you all you need to know. -
There is always a risk in writing a long post on forums that a problem causes you to lose everything; browser crash, computer hangs, etc... I'd always recommend writing it in something else first, even Notepad, and saving regularly. Once the text is finished then copy and paste it into a forum post in one quick go.
-
If you where writing it straight into a post in the forums then I think sadly the work is lost. If you'd been using something like MS Word that every few minutes automatically saves work you would be able to get back most of it.

There are two servers. Balmung - A server that has characters of players who played the original version of the game and also has new players who've just started. These type of servers are termed 'Legacy'. Gilgamesh - A new server with the revamped version of the game. All characters have been created new since Beta 4. As to which has the bigger RP community I'm not sure, but there are more Linkshells and Free Companies on Balmung. Have a look here http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15 EDIT: Oh, and there's a RP event for EU prime time players next Sunday - EU Tavern Night, 8 Sep. -
