  1. -August Lansborough pauses at the sight of a peculiar post pinned to the board. Hesitantly he approaches, noting the controlled though quick handwriting. Key words pop out at him, and he feels a familiar coil tighten in his spine. Perhaps it's his chance...- ANYWAY, for IC-RP reasons August will need to eventually explore the path of Thaumaturge/Blackmage. I'd be more than happy to bump it up a bit, or adjust so that I can attend. I'll probably get my Thamauturge to lvl 5 for the event unless that is too high. Luckily, I have no work this friday so I'll definitely be free at that time, EST!
  2. Personally, I made my current character on Gilgamesh along with my friend. This was about... 20 days ago. Almost immediately, when we open world RP'd she was whispered with surprise that she was in an open world RP. I got more OOC attention from people trying to give me stuff so I'd join their FC and while we did meet a few faces quickly, the lack of interest in Gilgamesh caused us to switch our characters to Balmung because it just seemed like the livelier community. While I wasn't in Gilgamesh long enough to give a real opinion, I will say it didn't take long for me to become disappointed and move on myself. It's probably reactions, or opinions like this that are causing the very issues your talking about. While it's unfortunate, I do still believe there is a good chance there is good RP there and that it can grow again. The issue that I noticed in any server is that few people are willing to just open world RP, and all of it takes place in the same taverns with the same dry conversations. I have seen a few forums up here for people still strong with RPing in Gilgamesh and believe that with more interest and a chance it could come back strong again. Or I could just be optimistic.
  3. I have a friend with the same occupation. Anyway, I started on gaia too and though I played GW2 the big one for me was TERA for awhile. Honestly if I could mix GW2's quest and instance system, with FFXIV lore and depths, along with TERA's active combat system I'd be in heaven. Anyway, I'm sure most people have played Runescape at one point or another. Anyway, I'm not on your server but if you get into Balmung I'm quite the active RPer when it comes to open world and not just preset areas. So if you pop in I'd be happy to get together. I have a friend, Eudalie N'aal who is in the same boat as me. I also have a friend whose FC is dedicated to Scholarly types for RP purposes. So I hope you can find something similar. Anyway, welcome, I hope you find what you need/want!
  4. Yeah, woulda been nice to have one of those too... well that's what I'm on FF14 for, it's characters looking at each other and rich world make for excellent in depth rp!
  5. Why, thank you! I was having trouble trying to adjust it myself.
  6. I know that feeling. Someone I knew ran a big kidnapped scenario in TERA ONLINE. It would have been better with similar emotes. As with any MMO, including here in FFXIV all our kidnapped players seem to Stockholm Syndrome when they get carried away! P.S. Not used to this site's quotes
  7. So the carrying emote... Ever had the moment where a friend dies and you need to find a healer in the area. You maybe get lucky and find someone who actually answers, but they have trouble finding you or are a little busy at the moment. I'd love to be able to pick up(or imagine anyone other than Rogs dragging Rogs) my ally and carry their doll like form so that it's easier to save them. Or you know... throw them over a cliff...
  8. Turns out I stumbled into the very same forum as you Doe. Anyway, I'm happy to finally be able to play again and just like Doe said, we were able to find some RP decent RP though she did mention someone being surprised. It wasn't quite like my battle underwear scene from the beta but it was fun. Well, the idea of taking player jobs for RP reminds me of some RP I did on TERA ONLINE, so I'm excited to get to the point to be able to do things like this.
  9. Honestly I like your A character. The character background isn't too new but she herself is rather pretty for that race and I think the Rogas could use more character of their kind who are more than just joke characters in the background. Unfortunately many larger races tend to see little use, and have the women even scrutinized. So while it might get few votes I really like your A of all the characters.
  10. Hello, this is my first post on this site, and finally I see something I want to mention. I am a big RPer first off, so I understand the qualms that come with choosing where you want to play. In the beta I followed my GF into the Cactuar server as she had initially followed some friends into it. All big Rpers as well, and we still found RP. , For me it was easy, and will still be easy as I am following her. In Tera we joined the Celestial Hills server for RPing. It is easy as there is only one, but we also met many good Rpers. Now that I'm done with what seems like pointless prologue I just want to say, while I hear people saying the choice is important, it will determine a lot, there is also the chance to just let your character 'be born' into whatever server they are and let things happen from there. Stories will be created along the way, decent back ground will be developed. Not everyone has every detail down pat and sometimes just letting the world mold it, instead of trying to be fully molded to the world helps a lot. I found Rp in cactuar and even RPd the death of the 3rd phase with some people I had just met, or had little interaction with before, yet enjoyed 3 hours of just rping the end of the server in an area that was beautiful but way over leveled for us. But we made out way in and enjoyed it. Balmung, Gilgamesh, both will be RP servers. If you are like me and don't want a hundred characters there is also the choice of really just picking and immersing yourself. Each will have different and very similar things. The people will be different and while one side can bring up awesome situations you are missing out on, you will have your own. Perspective will be different and what might seem great elsewhere might not have been great for you. Some may find this immature, or too bold, or lazy. They will want full fledged structure ahead of time. But to be honest characters are forged in the fires of the world. There is no reason to doubt the heat of either flame. P.S. I know this isn't a vote.
