  1. Art trade with Susu. No where near done but it's a good start. A quick doodle of Tyriont Okay! So I'm going to start my commissions tomorrow and we'll see how they go. I'm going to have the livestream up and definitely try to get some good headway into the two of them, however, I don't know how tired I'll be after them. Everyone CURRENTLY on list can expect to see something no later than Sunday and probably way earlier.
  2. http://www.livestream.com/tishieart My "office" hours are going to be tomorrow from 9 am to 2 pm and then maybe again arbitrarily later in the day. If you're on the list you might want to pop in and see what's going on. Also, frankly, at any given point I'm going to be drawing so if you're interested in watching... tada!
  3. I'm not exactly sure about this one. I see a lot of people having a problem with the whole "I'm this even if I'm not" thing. It's kinda like roleplaying a halfbreed, or a job that isn't actually in the game. You can't really prove it so a lot of people will likely see it as a one-dimensional kinda thing that is unimportant except to establish that you are a special snowflake. That aside? Great post, a sticky would definitely prove very prudent. As someone who has a little bit of a problem with something that people are not.... This is represented by a tattoo. A tattoo which isn't even visible all the time I'm guessing knowing how character clothing models go. This isn't like roleplaying a halfbreed or a job that isn't in the game to me because those could potentially have different animations, different things that should be on your character, etc. That said if someone wanted their job to be "I raise goats" even though there isn't a goat raising job... I don't have to pretend all that hard to imagine that. And, I think that's the rule of reasonability. Someone who's magic involves time stopping and shape shifting? Again, there aren't... powers to represent that and that could be a stretch for people and generally speaking the people who would be concerned for that would comment. This is literally a story and a drawing which may or may not appear on your character's body. I think it's safe to say that pretense is fine Also as far as special snowflake... that's a term for when you ask for something that almost no one else has. Playing a mutant with telepathy in this world could qualify. It's sole purpose - when you're really being a special snowflake - is to try and add something to your character expressly to make them cooler than other people that no one else can do for no other purpose (not to advance story, offer a complication, etc.) than to try and get attention. There's HUGE swaths of people who have this history and really all it amounts to is an interesting point of history. I wouldn't call someone falling to "special snowflake syndrome" when it's something that over 30% of the game players could say they have, too.
  4. My face: :surprise: Koren is a babe. Just saying. You should totally draw Felix Hee... Koren IS always going on about how pretty she is. I'm going to eventually combine the two looks. I know for a fact I love her boobs in this one but I kinda like her face in the other one a little better. But I think her hair's been cut short... or maybe it hasn't. I've come up with a bunch of ideas since I started.
  5. Commission art aside, I'd do that listening thing for the sheer joy of listening/gabbing about characters alone~ I am officially accepting commissions, I thought I'd quote you guys so you saw. If you're interested just drop me a PM about what you're looking for, some character or pose references, and I'll get you on list
  6. Ewwww. who's this stranger? I bet he smells.
  7. Did one of Koren again pre-haircut. I'm also at this point officially accepting commissions. I think from what I understand my starting price is 15 an hour AND you have to please be present during some of the live-stream so I know that I'm getting what you're asking for. Re-drawing and stuff is a lot of time, yo. To give a general idea estimate the picture in this post was a 3.5 hour drawing. I... do not color. Color is not my jam http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3364 however is great at color and muscles so I recommend him if you want to do that . I can leave off all shading so that someone else or you can color. To compare, the other pictures in this thread were 30 to 40 minute doodles. My price for those is 10. As you might imagine from the link, Susu's a friend of mine. If you're looking for a more Western, comic book style he's a great source. I'm more of a Korean-style intricate person. Also my guys kinda look femme unless I try real hard.
  8. Is it time for future pinup art fights?!
  9. -An easy dismissal to any such boasting would be that no one even remembers who the Warriors of Light actually were and, "I've heard better bard's tales!" Therefore this is a non-issue in my book Just as an aside... people can and probably will attempt to lord over people by claiming more status anywhere, regardless of server. On Guild Wars 2 there were so many Arch-Dukes and Arch-Duchesses from PCs that there could not have possibly been a concern about inheritance with Queen Jennah as succession seemed pretty stated; people looked down on "barons and baronesses" for being common and so everyone had title creep where half of the nobility were landed counts or higher. While it's easy to think that legacy or not will mitigate this... I would say that it's realistically not going to affect anything. If people feel they can get more power/attention by claiming more power they'll do it. If anything the legacy side has established that's not how they roll and there's a greater chance of more power creep in new places (where there isn't an old guard so everyone's trying to grab for territory). Personally, whether that's a negative or not depends on playstyle and how aggressive one feels about establishing things. If everyone on Gilgamesh decides that the Lalafell are the master race then that's going to be a part of their canon that works for them. If they have the theme that you go in service for 3 years from your magic master before you're released as a theme in their RP -- they can build that too. You might say what happens with one RP doesn't effect the other... but cool RP things in setting like that become memes which become group canon (I've had a character use a derogatory word for another race in a game and months later seen groups of people use that word too. Whether we did it independently of each other, who can say, but over time that became the generic insult humans used and that was cool to watch). Likewise you have the potential situation of power-canon. Again, using Guild Wars 2 as an example: No one flat out said that barons weren't really nobility but were treated like commoners. But so many of the noble players were going to inherit the title of count or countess and were of very high rank that lower nobility was of clear lesser position. No one flat out said that as a rule but at the gatherings of nobles as more and more players came in and were of the upper ranks... that became what average was. And, honestly, that's kinda cool that we form group canon like that. Gilgamesh people, because there's a lot of people going to be trying to make their mark on thing have that opportunity but there's also going to be the need to establish a status quo. And that typically makes players very "loud" in their RP which is why I ended up eventually deciding Balmung. I tend to be shy and after a horrible experience with an ex-boyfriend who berated me for wasting time with getting attention in games because I was stupid and never had any good ideas... it's hard for me to want to take the "camera" without feeling self-conscious. Thus, I kinda thrive in more structured environments. People who are bolder, have big ideas or their own personal canon they want to work with, want to be a part of that creative push to make something will get more out of Gilgamesh than I would from trying to be one of the big many voices to make my way.
  10. Hi! I just got here! Not just in this thread but to this game and forum a short few days ago. When I see people talk about "Dead Horse Topic" and trying to stop all dialogue, I read -- however unintentional -- it as "You got here too late to be important to explain this issue to" or "You got here too late to affect/be involved in this process" which is ironic as it's a debate about whether there's opportunity to be found in one server or whether it's going to be too difficult for new people to break into. I don't think anyone really means this... but I thought I'd remind the group who are frustrated by this topic that while it can be frustrating going over again and being re-opened... that some of us weren't here for the initial "discussion" where it was closed and we do have interest, questions and valid views, too. We're curious about what's going on because it affects us, too.
  11. The real jerk of the situation - you hit the nail right on the head there. Naming conventions came only recently all things considered so a lot of people have characters they're porting without a history/culture that they realistically couldn't have had in the first place which people are going to question ICly why they don't. :dazed: Timey wimey weirdness, isn't it?
  12. If you keep the name, justify it in story. Remember, it's not a name you're choosing. You're also choosing the reactions of other Miqo'te when they meet your character. There's never going to be a point wherein you won't have to explain it in character -- each new Miqo'te has an equal chance of asking it and pestering about it for good or for ill. If that's something that you like - proving yourself to others time and again that there's no such thing as a "real Miqo'te" and that you're just as much Miqo'te as them? That's fine. If you don't mind traditionalist Miqo'te potentially disliking your character on general principle upon hearing your name? That's fine, too. If that sort of thing would frustrate you, I suggest changing it. No matter what anyone says about "nice" or what not... that's something that's likely to happen IC. And it's not people being mean, jerks, or passive-aggressive... but there are PLENTY of characters that are going to react that way. And I've seen people get frustrated because they continually had to prove themselves time and again to each new person that came in. So... again, if you're chill with that, go for it. It's interesting. If you're not? Don't.
  13. They're a layabout with no respect for authority. You go through the IC consequences and they RP them as if they do not matter or as if they ICly got out of them. It comes down to a strange form of godmoding wherein it's "personality godmodding" in a way -- "Oh sure you punished me and took away all these privileges but I don't care and no one can tell me how to react" -- essentially stopping any IC ability to effect the situation. I am not necessarily talking about making characters without niches. In fact, I think careful group management CREATES more niches than it destroys. If you have someone who's trying to play a bit of the rebel then someone refusing all authority means that a person can't realistically play a bit of a rebel (who's going to notice someone cutting a class once in a while in the face of someone who routinely tells the teachers to shove it? If someone is a little sad and scared from being away at home and someone else is frequently suicidal then RP tends to gravitate towards those stronger flavors as being higher priority) Having a single minded group of likeminded studious mages could be boring. But, having one off the walls wacky person means that other people ALSO have to go off the walls and be bigger and "SHOUT" their character for attention in the face of so much loud stuff happening... or get ignored in the group as other stuff happens to people around them. My poll was meant to show more the difference between RP being about myself and my character as a priority, RP being about my group and how we interact as a priority, and RP being about my peers and how we interact as a priority. ; Not that any of them are wrong to do but they do change how you see the world and expectations for what the world should give or not give.
  14. Let us say you're RPing with a group and the idea is that you're all magical students learning your powers. Someone who is a great RPer and really nice OOC joins your group. As RP goes on they're clearly running a story that doesn't quite fit in with the canon... or, their power level for what they can do is way higher than what the group is previously said to do. Maybe your group theme is a bunch of the best of the best magical students and they're playing a layabout who thumbs their nose at all IC authority ... including the teachers beyond a point which should get their PC kicked out. Ostensibly you've talked to this player before and you've gotten the response of apology it's causin strife, but, "that's their character" So we're to the next step: Should the group change to be able to accommodate their story, should they allow this one person to change the setting (they can get away with no authority even though other people cannot), or should the other person be asked to leave for not fitting the group?
  15. The most important thing is for everyone to get on board. It's not a matter of whether "I can deal with it" or "I don't mind people griefing" in my personal opinion. What we're REALLY doing is establishing some future shy roleplayer who's just trying out things for the first time? That they're going to be able to come into an environment wherein they decide to actually roleplay instead of hiding that urge and feeling awkward. All of our organizing, community building, group events to get things out there, etc? Should all be done with the idea of Future Shy Roleplayer in mind. If Reddit/4chan are both going to be in a place? It's going to be horrible for Future Shy Roleplayer and other RPers are going to try to hide away to "Safe" roleplaying areas which effectively means no RP community unless you join through backroads and secret handshakes. Admittedly, again, I'm going Balmung but... trust me on this one. Try to find a place where you'll get as soft a landing as possible.
  16. There are a number of ways to handwave it. Lack of evidence, is one. Coherent villains are those that dance in the edge of legality and those who obfuscate their villainy well. Maybe your character knows that elezen on the other table is a necromancer who profanates graves to further his experiments. But maybe you have no proof of it to give to the authorities: yes, you could tell them anyway, but then the Law might not work properly: investigators could be bribed, perhaps there's no good protocol to find a grave digger besides 'let's put a watch on the graveyard'. Maybe this villain is smart and knows when and where to strike. There are also more mundane and selfish reasons: maybe your character is stubborn and wants to punch the necromancer himself. Or maybe he doesn't trust the authorities to do their work. On a more meta level, you can handwave it with 'that would be no fun'. Roleplaying is collaborative storytelling, and making the villain be defeated by the authorities off-screen is kind of...well, not particularly exciting. Whatever you do, though, you have to keep OOC communication with the villain. Know that they are planning, and discuss the conclusions of the engagements (be them physical or magical battles, or a battle of wits) to settle if the events that took place would call the attention of the NPC authorities and, if that is so, how each participant (including these off-screen authorities) will react and change the plot. But all of those plot contrivances have consequences. In a "normal" situation you can't usually tell or get help because the villain isn't a PC that is around a lot. So, again SIDE characters who are villains for stories, etc? That's fine and doesn't qualify for this -- this is for main character or persistent groups which are villain themed. If for some reason the authorities don't work as a solution in a story... due to incompetence, not believing the PC, etc. That's now established in that story. That means in all further stories the authorities are incompetent. If I start to tell another story with my character I can't realistically say the investigators can help me and if someone else who's been interacting with this group is expecting my PC to go to the authorities? It's... almost never going to happen. If I'm watching a story between X and Y and X is very obviously letting a villain Y go about their way? My character is not going to trust X to know what they're doing upon seeing that unfold. Now, of course, there's exceptions. Maybe your character X of course happens in stories -- maybe the villain is your dad (my story actually!), or maybe your villain knows things about you, but, that's a SPECIFIC situation. Villain guilds and organizations tend to make said nefarious characters first so they're not really built in with that sort of thing. Maybe the villain is smart and knows where to strike has a corollary: the opposing PC is requested to not react to certain things in this story. Again, that's fine if the thing is all worked out and this isn't a villain who's around very much so again the option to just go around the corner, knock on their door and ask about their villainy isn't realistic... but, the problem with a LOT of PC villains is that they kind of require... well... railroading. Which is fine if you've signed up for it -- no one minds travelling a railroad if the scenery is nice.... but as someone who's been that player of "No, you can't do that... or that.... or that! Just wait until I'm done as a villain and watch how much horror I can cause!" It's all your style of play, of course, but villiainy is something that has more consequences than a lot of people realize. How and what happens goes BEYOND play. I've seen people be upset that THE DAY AFTER the guild ran a storyline wherien someone was tortured the character tortured was sullen, surly and withdrawn instead of participatory in a guild event to introduce and meet new people because "The day wasn't supposed to be about them". I've seen people frustrated because they wanted their plot to go in one direction to resolve unaware they had literally TAUGHT the people in their plot that this method wouldn't work because it failed two times before and now everyone was frustrated. It's just... a very careful thing is all.
  17. The "problem" with villain characters is a very subtle one. Think about any book, movie or television show. How often do villains realistically appear in favor of heroes? Maybe one or two scenes -- establishing they've got things going on and such -- but for the most part villains are effective and scary because you don't know what they've got in their hand. You don't see them and you have those moments of confrontation. The difficulty comes in RP when your villains are... right down the street. Like, over there. You can visit them. Too often it's either hard to take them seriously because they're not unknowable... they're just some guys. In which case they kinda end up becoming "sort of mean rivals" rather than villains. Or they're honestly evil in which case people are kind of holding an idiot ball for how they interact. Which is to say; if you know someone is legitimately evil and acting against you and you have any sort of proof behind this... why wouldn't you tell an authority to really look into it? Like Kev says, obviously, I don't think people should be forced to just play nice. Koren is an egomaniac with enough personal issues that she might be asked to pilot an EVA, but villain is a very delicate line to balance how you play.
  18. This is going to sound weird but... Have you ever seen Boogie Nights? I was thinnkin about how honest and sweet Dirk Diggler is at the beginning with his boyish "I wanna do good!" when I was drawing Kaed. So I think it came out in the 70s look
  19. Yes, Balmung all the way! I'll definitely have my eyes on you. And thus Ashran becomes one of the few, one of the proud... one of the people actually addressed as "Sir"
  20. I'm pretty sure I'm Balmung-side... ah, here goes You might know Koren --- Through her parents; Koren grew up travelling all over the world with her parents, Lhen'sae and Khtosi Panipar who were rather well known for their Arcanist oriented studies; researching the aether, Primals, summons, and their various connections. They were anthropologists of a sort as well; living in study of the Sylphs and other beast tribes as a means of understanding the Primals. At the time of their disappearance they were taking readings on the changes in Aether at the presence of Bahamut in relation to other Primals that had entered the world. It's worthy of note that Koren is the Arcanist of her family rather than her parents and thus she features often in their papers. Through her own research; having inherited a lot of her parents notes and being a prodigy herself (though that may be a bit through nuture rather than nature as she grew up immersed in magical study) Koren often does freelance work on Arcanist studies. She's a heavy frequenter of libraries though she prefers to be out in the field dabbling and experimenting. Through cultural events; as she enjoys the finer things in life. Music? Food? Beautiful very feminine dresses? Adorable (overly expensive) cute cakes? Koren has a weakness for art and beauty and can be lured into indulging whenever there's the chance.
  21. I do! Though as I'm lazy my commission prices are usually things like: Listen to me talk about my character while I draw for a 30 to 45 minute piece or things like in game gold for an actual piece that takes me a week.
  22. A quick doodle (under 30 minutes) I did for Alothia "You... you want to hire us to... catch.. your chocobo..." This was a quick 35 minute doodle for Nel - "I've got a great deal for you right here!"
  23. Also, I LOVE EXALTED! Ahem. That is all.
