Missed the Velvet Rose's grand re-opening auction this past Autumn? You may be in luck, for we're ready to heat up your Winter just as the air turns chilly and the evenings grow dark! Come by the Velvet Rose estate on Friday, December 2nd at 9:00PM EST, and see who might be ready to stoke your fires! And who knows? You may wind up finding a little special someone to end up spending Starlight Celebration with from it all, too! Whether you're looking for someone to show you other uses for holiday gift-wrapping, or simply friendly company to share a hot mug of cocoa, come ring in the season with the Velvet Rose and treat yourself to a gift of your own. You deserve it! A quick rundown of the rules! - Auctions will begin this time at 50,000 gil. Bids will be accepted in any increment of 5,000 gil. This means that you may raise the bid from 50,000 to 55,000 or 90,000 in one bid, but other bids such as 50,000 to 51,625 will not be accepted. Please do not make bids you cannot afford! - Once the auction is completed, you will pay the full sum to Corim Sykursyn, who will then deliver half the winnings to each auctioned character, while the other half will be deposited into the company coffers to fund more events and provide assistance to the FC as a whole! This is to achieve fairness for all parties involved! If payment is not received immediately the second place bidder will be given the win if desired. - We know the urge is strong, but please do not bid on your significant other! - You may only win one auction for the night, to allow others to have a fair chance at the winnings! To aid in alleviating any concerns on what may come later in the night however, a list of characters on the block will be provided at the end of this post! *A FINAL DISCLAIMER The Velvet Rose is not held responsible or liable for any RP that occurs during your date, including potential ERP or lack thereof, so long as the winning party and auctioned member are successful in meeting up in the first place. Any event that occurs during the date is done with the understanding and mutual agreement of both parties involved. Please remember each player is different in their tastes and comfort zones. Please be respectful of your date's limitations! :? No offense but do you... "get" animals? I'm reminded of the infamous Pokemon "Legendary cats/dogs/beasts" argument, but... not realizing miqo'te are distinctly feline... ?????????? In any case I agree with some of the stuff mentioned late in this thread. I feel like people who don't want to say miqo'te are feline are people embarrassed by the cliches and such but still want to play one for some reason. Which is pretty silly. They're catpeople. They're some of the most catlike people in any anime/game out there. Their emotes are feline, their attitude in speech boxes is littered with catlike behavior, their culture is feline, the list goes on. They're obviously catlike, what's up for debate is to what extent. In Ashe's case she absolutely hisses and purrs and has a habit of wrapping her tail around another of her race when being affectionate. We've got the eyesight thing. Hearing, scenting, etc. She doesn't fill her speech with "nyas" and mews or whatever else. But I mean, she's a cat person. Of course she's going to act like a bloody feline.

First off I just want to say I freaking love this. It's adorable but well thought out and super detailed! As far as goes, I definitely didn't get any spiritual vibe. When I was reading through this I just simply thought of how cats actually behave irl, always nuzzling against each other's head in similar manner. It may be a bit of a cop-out to say "Oh it's just normal feline behavior", but nonetheless it fits!

Fair enough. I should have said "they're felines." I didn't mean to infer that because Ashe purrs/hisses/etc that every miqo'te does. I think in particular the Seekers are probably much wilder and more like big cats compared to Keepers too, and I know there's a couple camps that certainly seem to play that aspect of them up. Regardless though, they're quite clearly Felis Sapiens or something, however you want to call it. There's pretty clearly no canine influence or any other sort of mammal beyond humans + a feline of some kind. What *kind* of feline they act like almost certainly varies from group to group and across individuals like any human, but apart from that. *shrug* I feel like I may be coming off a bit demanding in saying "RP like I say so!" but it's more that I just can't see why people'd say otherwise. Individuals aside, the game has plenty of examples of how miqo'te act, and when someone tries to say their headcanon involves the entire race acting un-catlike, well. It's just objectively wrong. Do what you want with your own character but don't try saying the whole race has nothing to do with felines!

Throw me in the camp of "If you're going to make some argument about miqo'te being uncatlike, why are you even playing one?" It reminds me of a chick I know who is in some RP with canon characters, and basically destroyed the character's personality and everything established in her lore just to fit her personal view of the character instead. Really kind of irritating. They're cats. They're not wolves, they're not humans with ears, they're cats. Their emotes are catlike, they have catlike eyes, they have and emote with ears and tail, etc. Anything else is just some kind of weird denial, to which I say--why are you even playing one? This of course doesn't extend to people who have interesting reasons of course--disliking their race, wanting to fit in, etc. But people that just dismiss their entire racial identify for some kind of "head canon"...Just play a Hyur. That said, Ashe is very catlike. She's a pretty serious, if occasionally snarky, mage and scholar (literally, not the Job--but that too!), but she's still a cat. Of course she emotes, she hisses, she purrs and snuggles up and rubs up against people she likes when they pet her, etc. And of course she gets startled and flustered if someone tries grabbing her tail unexpectedly.
