Faerie RP'ers Unite! (Join our Temp RP Community!)
raindrops replied to Niho's topic in RP Discussion
You can leave Gridania for Ul'dah or vice-versa before level 15, but you can't leave/go to Limsa before that (the event that gives you the airship pass is also the event that triggers ferries to and from Limsa to unlock). You can't do 'main' quests (the ones with the fire stuff around the marker) that come from your non-starting city, but you can do all the misc. quests. -
Weh, I'm always kind of nervous about sharing my art but! Most of these are of my main, a duskwight conjurer actress called Braids. And I guess I don't have a whole lot else to say so I'll just start with the images!

This. It's one thing to afk while you eat or run a quick errand or if you're called away for a little while etc. It's another entirely to log on at 7am knowing that you won't be actually playing the game until 5pm or stay logged in overnight. Yes it sucks that you won't be back until peak hours. But that's true for a lot of people (they wouldn't be peak hours if everyone wasn't in the same boat, after all). And you're making the peak hours of people in different timezones even more unbearable.
-
What's with this whole 'you shouldn't ask people to be considerate because other people are not going to be considerate' attitude here? You shouldn't try to make a bad situation just a little better because you're not going to fix it entirely? What kind of attitude is that? It's not 'realistic', it's lazy. Asking people to be considerate is totally reasonable, even if they aren't going to listen. And yes, you should be logging out when you can't play. Everyone should be. If nobody else is that doesn't mean you suddenly shouldn't - it just means that everyone else is being selfish and you can either be equally selfish or do something small to counter that.

I'm still having internet problems right now which are giving me more lag than is playable, but I'll be around in a couple of hours. I currently don't have the ability to invite people to the teenytiny RP linkshell I've started (the person who owns it managed to get onto their gilga character and I'm not going to ask them to sign out after they've been queueing for that long) but I should soon! And it doesn't seem line being able to invite people will be a problem for a while anyway. I'm not sure it's my place to say this, but hey. Let's do this thing! (Once servers open and misc. technical issues are sorted out!) I'm lagging but I'll stay logged in as Cendrillonne Braids if you need to get hold of me ingame (just don't be too mad if I don't actually get your messages right now |D).

Faerie'll improve later tonight, I'm fairly sure. All the servers are going to be hit hard today - it's launch day. The JP servers aren't much better right now, as far as I'm aware. They were empty during Early Access but they've been hit by a lot of people very suddenly during official launch.
-
Thing is, P4/early access has only been a few days - Gilgamesh may not open for a few weeks. People who've HAD to go elsewhere may well have made more progress than P4 people have right now by the time Gilgamesh opens up - certainly more than they'll want to give up. If people have their heels dun in after five days, think of how hard it'll be to get people to go back to Gilgamesh when they've been elsewhere for a few weeks. It's not ideal, but we're not going to get an ideal situation unless Gilgamesh magically becomes empty. Having an unofficial overflow is better than having a lot of isolated 3-4 person linkshells scattered across servers.
-
Haha, the JP servers may have been ghost towns during early access, but it looks like a lot of people just either didn't preorder (maybe they had a lot more V1ers who didn't go legacy) or didn't want to use their EA time. The JP servers have been hammered with people since official launch.
-
This was posted on the official forums just now. The title refers to the Japanese datacentres, but the fact that this was posted by the NA account and in the NA area has led people to believe that the 'Japan' part is a typo from copy/pasting the message and that the NA/EU datacentres may also be seeing expansion as early as next week. So yeah, it's not a sure thing until we get more information but I hope that this info is helpful! EDIT: wtf autoformatting. fixed.
-
Haha! I'm glad people like the Faerie idea. I won't be able to log in for a few hours yet (my brother plays MMOs as well and when he's playing I have too much lag to play) but once I can feel free to add Cendrillonne Braids (my main, currently in Gridania) or Chumimi Chumi (an alt I made, largely to torment a friend's character, currently in Ul'dah). We have a - currently tiny, I don't want to put up anything proper until I'm 100% sure Faerie's a good solution to avoid causing more splits - teeny tiny RP linkshell going on, but I accidentally passed over leadership of it when trying to give another member the ability to invite |D Hopefully I can get that sorted out soon, derp. Edit: A little more info! They're looking to expand the data centres as early as next week! This one says 'Japan' but since it was posted in the NA announcements section using the NA account, there's a better than even chance that that's a typo and they're planning on expanding both. The JP servers have been hammered with people since this morning, it seems that most of Asia just didn't preorder/use their EA time.

Other characters you'd like to make cameos
raindrops replied to Keru / E'ir's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Honestly I don't want to see any more actual cameos. You can pull off a big crossover game without that - look how FF9 did it, with cute meta jokes and the use of old FF designs reworked to match the setting (with the black mages, summoners having actualfax horns etc). And they're already doing this with things like the Onion Helm and Amano!Fighter/Warrior of Light's armour as well as their takes on the classic FF classes. That's doing it right - taking elements from older games and making any necessary alterations to them so that they fit the setting. I'm fine with, say, random NPCs with names of canon characters standing around making FF references, but having the actual characters in the game is a bit far. I'm honestly kind of weirded out by the fact that Lightning has to not only be in everything but be centre stage in everything (those who played Dissidia 012 will probably get this - the stories of all the other characters ended up being forgotten because everything has to be about Lightning). I understand that it's a big promotion but really? So yeah, I think it should go the FFIX route. References to past games are fine - I love cute meta things! But FFXIV should be, first and foremost, about the world and people of Eorzea. -
Ah, sorry for being unclear! SA is something awful, the other community we're sharing Gilgamesh with. They're both extremely big communities. The big LGBT players community is also on Gilgamesh, I believe. A lot of groups laid claim to it (probably because Gilgamesh is the coolest |D).
-
There's no way to conclusively know the ratio of reddit people, SA people, rpers and people who've just gone to gilgamesh without following a community, beyondf the fact that we do know the size of the Reddit FFXIV community and the people coming from SA is far greater than the amount of people registered here. And honestly it doesn't matter. I don't want to blame reddit or SA for the fact that we're having problems. It's not their fault - they just want to play with their friends like everyone else. What does matter is that the server is not open to new characters and is unlikely to become open to new characters for some time. When it does open, there's going to be a larger queue of people lining up to make characters there, meaning it may not remain open for long. Character transfers there are likely to have more restrictions. There'll be a drop off in people after 30 days once the time that comes with the game is over, I'm guessing, but I think Gilgamesh will remain heavily populated due to being the home of several very big name free companies that will be starting to advertise more once the drop-off begins. If nothing else, we need to decide on an 'overflow' server and stick with it - I'm hoping we can use this thread to come to a conclusion about which one. Personally, I am in favour of Faerie. It's a P4-added server, so it has no community attached to it. Plus, and this is just me guessing, I'm banking on the name of it helping to keep away the '14 year old boys who play halo and swear a lot' crowd.

Excuse me? You have made it abundantly clear that you did not even read my posts. Nowhere did I say I was hoping, I was discussing potential solutions in a thread for discussing potential solutions. Rather than rushing on ahead and making my own shiny special RP linkshell on a server without prior organization because that is excatly what I said I am trying to avoid. You've been nothing but rude to me, and even when I've dropped it you're continuing to make shots at me? Stop playing the victim when you've been nothing but rude, condescending and, with the exception of your latest post, completely unwilling, not just to contribute, but even to let other people discuss things in a topic for discussing things. Back on topic, I'm not sure a JP server would be a good idea. The lower population point made at the start of this thread is a good one and while I don't think it's a concern for any of the NA servers the JP servers are less populated and there would be a language divide, making the pool of people still smaller. I do think that one of the servers added during P4 would work well - there'll be some very immediate login problems, especially now we've hit launch proper, but none that are likely to last as long as Gilgamesh's. They have no communities associated with them from before P4, for obvious reasons, and while we don't know much about transfers they're the least likely to have transfer restrictions put on them if that turns out to be an issue in the future (and on the very small offchance that people are offered free character transfers - there's been rumours of this but I am sceptical - they're the most likely to be offered because of their lower populations).
-
I'm not talking right this second, I'm talking within the next week. The chances of Gilgamesh opening up before launch are looking low, and at launch there'll be another rush of people who'll close it up for even longer. And once again, this is not about Balmung. This topic was made looking for a non-legacy server. Rolling on Balmung is fine - it's one of the options I was looking into personally because of my personal problems with Gilgamesh - but it's not relevant to this thread.
-
A lot of people have thier own reasons for not wanting to be on a legacy server. I am glad that Balmung's so welcoming, but it isn't really the solution to the problem this thread is about since we're talking specifically a place for people who don't want to play on a legacy server. You're right in that I wouldn't want it to be temporary for my own reasons - I am worried for the long term more than anything and I do believe that the sheer number of people in Gilgamesh, as well as the reputation of the two big groups we're sharing it with, will scare away a lot of people - but that's not why I'm arguing, really. I just want everyone who's going 'screw this, I just want to play' to be able to play without ending up digging their heels in all on different servers. People are being impatient because they want to play the game. I personally have been waiting for this game for years (I preordered PS3 V1, because my computer couldn't handle gaming at the time. I have been waiting for this game for three years now). Other people may not have been waiting that long but they're exited. They want to just play, and once they have played they're going to be unwilling to lose progress in the same way many of the current Gilgamesh people are. The solution isn't really waiting, because even if I personally wait, a lot of people aren't going to. If 'just wait' was a solution then people would have been willing to wait for V2 characters to catch up with V1 ones before moving to Balmung.
-
Are you also fine with agreeing not to openly try to recruit people away from Gilgamesh and Balmung who might be willing to wait and/or transfer later? I doubt that.. You are literally saying here that you don't want people who can't currently get on to Gilgamesh to be able to play at all. Does that not strike you as a little selfish?
-
Login limitation is happening on all worlds after maintenance, yes, but character creation restriction on gilgamesh has been a constant since very, very shortly after launch. I actually have made a tally (because I like tallies, okay?) of the worlds who had announcements about character creation locks made on the official EN news twitter, if anyone's interested! Others have had creation locked too, naturally, but not deliberately in the same way these have - always in a way that can be fixed by a few refreshes.
-
And yet you are asking a similar number of people to either not play at all or to do just that because they can't get onto Gilgamesh? I can understand not wanting to move, but naming a third server for people who can't get on to Gilgamesh to go to won't splinter the community any more than not doing so. It can't splinter the community at all, at present, because the parts of the community it would splinter (the ones who can't get onto Gilgamesh or who don't want to when there are other people who can't) cannot actually be part of the community right now.
-
Clearly you didn't actually read my posts. I said that I can get onto Gilgamesh, and that I have a character there that I have put a lot of time into. I just don't want to play there if other people can't. Sorry that the capability for empathy is so confusing to you! Also if complaining about people not being able to access the game is 'whining', I don't know what complaining about people complaining is.
-
Like I said, it's not actual trolls I'm worried about. It's the fact that the bigger name communities attached to Gilgamesh have reputations (just as RPers have reputations among them), even if those reputations don't reflect the people playing there. And that's going to make newer players a lot more wary. I've played there without problems, but that doesn't change the fact that people are going to be deterred from open RP. In addition, RPers on a high population server may well result in hostility if these problems do turn out to be ongoing. The various communities are all likely to blame the other two for their problems. The other worlds ARE reaching limits, of course, but Gilgamesh reached its limit, if reddit is to be believed, just 15 minutes after the launch and has not left it except for short times immediately post-maintenance since. It also likely has a much larger queue of people waiting to pounce it to be with their friends than the other servers, especially the newer ones added during P4. I don't think you can seriously argue that every other server is just as bad. Even when server changing is implemented, Gilgamesh is the most likely server to have restrictions placed on moving there. Honestly, I'm a little concerned that most of the pro-gilgamesh responses are coming from people who are having no problems at all, and are basically saying 'well I'm having fun so I don't see why you're complaining'. Yes, upheaval is a problem. Yes, people won't want to go. Yes, naming a new server now would be a hassle and result in some splintering. But I don't see why the people who literally can't go to Gilgamesh should be the ones to move and lose progress either. And if it's this or small groups going wherever I'll take the kind of splintering that's the result of people having too much fun to leave over the kind caused by people not being able to play at all.
-
I'd prefer to move. I have a lot of time invested in my Gilgamesh character but I'd rather give up that time than deal with a splintered community + constant server issues. It's important to note that a server with a lower population but a higher ratio of RPers to normal players would be a lot more welcoming to new people when they come, too, because they're a lot more likely to run into random RPers who are happy to show them the ropes. Gilgamesh isn't going to have that advantage - even if they can make a character on there the chances that any given person they run into will be an RPer are very low. And while I don't personally consider trolls a problem, fear of trolls will be - it'll make people a lot more wary about the kind of open RP that'll help people get involved and feel included and encourage people to keep their playing to linkshells/partychats/the like. Even if we're all on the same server, groups keeping to themselves for fear of trolls will fragment the community more than being on different servers.
-
Right now it looks like we're headed to Gilgamesh, assuming it works smoothly on the beta. Sorry! It looks like a lot of people here are looking to be on Balmung but I really want the chance to see a fresh server.
-
Okay so - I have skimmed this thread and am super, super sorry if I've missed anything important but I was asked to join in and I figured it would be rude not to show up! Also super sorry, I kind of tl;dred this a lot!

Ah, that explains it! Thank you so much! I knew I'd seen 'tribe' used somewhere, I must have just got mixed up from the naming conventions info.
