  1. While I agree that negativity tend to spread, and that a lot of people will hate on any new game, just for the sake of it, I think it's a misunderstanding that everyone who dislikes something about the game must necessarely be affected by this. Sometimes, a game just doesn't fit you. I've in the past been very good at closing my eyes to the problems of a game I really liked, but I'm not sure it's always the right solution, at least not to me. There's no reason to be overly critical, and just do whatever you can to drive the game down. But at the same time, you have to respect that some people might not love the game as much as you do, and to them, the flaws will stand clearer. And every game has some flaws. You can like this game without being blinded by its shinyness, and you can dislike it without being brainwashed by the masses. People have different tastes. Isn't that really what it's about?
  2. He was actually offered the role as Dumbledore, but turned it down (at least that's the rumors). But yeah, he IS awesome
  3. Iroh actually added an interesting perspective that I had failed to take into account: Adding the thought for comical reasons. Sometimes, that can totally work! I've been in several situations where the roleplay was rather funny, and where the adition of the character's thought just made it even more hillarious. So yeah, I can see a use for it now and then. But as I already said, I don't believe in a right or wrong way to roleplay. Writing my character's thoughts is (usually) not for me, but that doesn't mean I won't roleplay with people who do it, or can't see the reason for doing it.
  4. I personally prefer to try to portray my characters thoughts through how she's acting, rather than telling people outright. As someone said, it allows for misunderstandings and I find that more interesting. I have no problem with people writing our their thoughts, I just prefer not knowing, as I find it create more interesting dynamics and posibilities. Rather that saying: "Tommy felt sort of nervous when he looked at the girl, he didn't know what to say", you could say "Tommy glanced briefly at the girl, but looked down with a blush when she met his eyes. He opened his mouth, as if to say something, but then closed it again." There's nothing wrong with the first one, I just find the second one more interesting. The example is pretty simple to read what Tommy might be thinking, there could be others where it's more abstract. Anyway, that's just my thoughts. I agree that there's a different between what you would write in a book, and in roleplay. I don't think there is a right or a wrong way to roleplay, if you prefer putting your characters thoughts into the roleplay, that's fine, it's your choice I just prefer portraying it in different ways.
  5. I quite like the changes. Sure, it makes it harder to have different type of things up at once, but I can live with that... This is more like the system I had hoped for. I'm still not sure I'd really like an AH, this seems more personal in a way, and personally, it gets me to talk with my friends about helping me get the mats I need, rather than just buying then, which I'm actually enjoying. Community feel, yay!
  6. Yeah, I've been thinking about that spot too, it's a really nice spot! For Ul'dah, around the Gladiators Guild, before you head down to them, there's an area that looks the arena which could be used as well. People does pass by, but it doesn't seem too terribly busy.
  7. That was exactly my thought when I saw it, yeah ^^ Just as Asytra said, at least Zero Punctuation is at least somewhat entertaining, this was basically just the guy running around, being annoyed that he had to run. Apparently, liking things makes you uncool. So... You guys suck :afro: 8-)
  8. Wow, that guy get easily annoyed. I totally agree that he shouldn't be calling it reviews, cause it seem to be almost a sport in being pure negative. It seem to be a trend with "reviews" lately, the more negative you can be, the better. It can be entertaining, but it's not very accurate, and personally, I think it's getting a bit old. Especially when it's not even a finished game, the mouse for instance has been fixed, and I've never had to beat that long on the... Jelly-things in the beginning... It wasn't very informative or accurate at all, it really just seemed to be mainly about showing exactly how annoyed you can get at a game for minor things and exactly how little patience you have. Instead of complaining about the run, how about actually enjoying it, enjoying the really nice graphics? So many people today expect instant gratification, huge explotions and what not, all the time.
  9. In the beginning, it's always hard because people are busy levelling and such. But eventually, there should be more and more people starting t hang out in the cities, I'm sure a main rp-hotspot will be appointed. It's usually an inn or tavern, but seeing as how the taverns work as the main guildleve hub, that's probably a bad idea in this case. I'm sure something will come up though I also try to walk whenever I'm in town and have plenty of time. When there's no way of flagging yourself, this is a good way to show other people, that you're a roleplayer. I know not too many people does it, but yeah, it's a place to start. And how do you initiate roleplay then. Well, if you see people roleplaying, try joining in. Most of the time, people will be happy for the new addition, and if they're having private roleplay, they'll let you know. Or try roleplaying with your self. It might seem odd, but sitting around, making emotes of what you're doing is another way of showing that you're a roleplayer interested in some roleplay. I fully agree that you can't just wait around for people to start roleplaying with you. I've heard way too often people complaining that "No one ever wants to roleplay with me!" and yet they do NOTHING to actually start roleplay themself, they just sit around waiting for someone to start something. Finding roleplay is your own responsibility. My best advice at this early state: Find a rp linkshell. That gives you people to roleplay with right away Edit: And to bring this a little on topic. Regarding the crafting and cooldown on guildleves and such. I agree that it's a bit annoying to run out, but I have to agree: That is how they intend the game to be played. As it has already been said, crafting is a big part of the game, and this is coming from someone who usually NEVER crafts in game. But I'm giving it a try in this one, because it's obviously what Square Enix want, and it's a part of levelling. The idea that we should be able to do what we want in a game is a bit off to me. You never are, in some games, you just think you are. The restrictions in WoW for instance might be different than in FF, but they're still there. In WoW, you can't level by crafting, not at all. You can ONLY level by killing things. What about the people who don't like killing things, but really likes crafting? In that game, they're forced to kill things. They do it, because it's part of the game, it's how the game is played, and to me, the same goes for Final Fantasy XIV. It's part of the game, and if you don't like it, maybe Final Fantasy XIV is just not the game for you. Nothing wrong with that. I'm not saying that there's nothing wrong with the game, I totally agree that it's very clunky having to go through the main menu every time you want to do something, but this is JUST about the need for, for instance, crafting between guildleve cooldowns. And hey, if you don't like crafting, we ARE roleplayers after all We of all people should be able to entertain usself.
  10. I always get lost everywhere <.< But yeah, it doesn't really make a huge difference, it's relatively easy to get from one city to the other, and when you've done it once, you can teleport between them. So I say, pick what you feel most like Which ever seem to be more interesting, or fit your character best. That's how I did it. I was originally going to start in Limsa, but Ul'dah was just perfect for Seraj. However, I still spend a good amount of time in Limsa, and I'm hoping to get to Gridania more as well. But yeah, really, it doesn't matter terribly much.
  11. Yeah, I think it's a good idea. It could also help at least the RP linkshells chosing a different shield, so that there shouldn't be double. Of course, that's not to say that you can't chose a shield that someone already have, just that you might prefer not to
  12. We're currently looking at the applications we have standing, and we're likely to start inviting people as soon as we find everyone in game and such So feel free to drop us an application and come chat on our forum. For the future though, might I refer you to our thread in the pub if you have questions? It might not be in the first page, but it's there somewhere
