Hey there! While the majority of my time in-game thus far has been spent focused on leveling and making gil, I’ve finally reached the point at which I feel I can comfortably take a breath, slow down, and really invest myself in some RP. While I don’t have several decades worth of RP experience under my belt (I could probably be considered a novice, relatively speaking), I do consider myself to be a proficient roleplayer and I’m constantly striving to improve. My character is Rhylund Ganzentsyn, a sea wolf with a penchant for doing business. You’ll most often find him in Limsa Lominsa or Ul’dah, but he does make the occasional trip up to Gridania when necessary. I’m trying to limit character details to the actual roleplay, but I’ll say Rhylund is a wealthy character and is keeping an eye out for reliable protection and entertainment to hire for himself. If you have a character that is looking to be employed (bodyguard, sellsword, singer, dancer, etc) there are certainly opportunities for RP there! It’s very easy for a player to go on about what their character does well, but what tends to add the most depth to any character are their weaknesses, flaws, and fears. I think it’s something that a lot of RPers tend to neglect and it’s a damn shame. Because I’m not above quoting a Pixar movie, “when everybody’s super, nobody is.” So what are the things that make your character imperfect?

I've already seen more than a handful of "willing slave" ladycats ICly and you can't throw a stone in any direction without hitting several "Nuhns" (usually 'perched' upon a railing/fence/bannister/etc.) I understand why it might annoy you, but they're the "fetish" race and the game doesn't seem to mind poking fun at that fact.

I've added a poll to the original post to check interest in getting a Mumble/Vent/TS server for the linkshell. Please respond!

You need to be clear of the red marker by the time it disappears. I think a lot of people believe that so long as they aren't in the area when they 'see' the spell being cast they're safe, but that's not the case. If you're standing in red the moment the marker disappears, you're going to take the hit.

I'd just like to add that while 'Balmung's Finest' isn't strictly a "post-game" LS, I do expect that once people begin hitting level cap things will become more active in that regard. It's just going to take a little patience.

This RP player base is so small in the scheme of things that if every single 'AFKer' from it stopped leaving themselves logged in, you wouldn't notice the difference. Really, this thread is little more than an excuse for people to take their frustrations out on other members of the community. It's kind of like a traffic jam. Most of the people are sitting around, ornery and waiting to move. A couple people drive by along the shoulder and it just pisses everyone else off some more. It really doesn't effect much, but people are still going to rage.

Straight-up DPS is welcome too! Just throw out there that you're looking to do a dungeon and, with luck, you'll end up with a tank or healer for the BAMinstaqueue.

Update: Linkshell is up! I just stuck with Balmung's Finest for the name. Getting people in there as I can.

To clarify, I'm not planning on making it exclusive to RPC. It's not for IC runs or anything like that, it's simply for players on Balmung who would like to run dungeons with other players from Balmung when possible. :thumbsup:

Yep! And even if you can't get a full group together, it's always nice to let those filling a damage role hop aboard the instaqueuemobile if you're a healer or tank.

I'm taking down names and looking forward to running with you all when we go live! Admittedly, I may have been a bit dramatic saying I felt 'contempt' for the duty finder. Really, I just miss the days when I had a list of acquaintances that I've had pleasant dungeon experiences with. I'd use this list to put my groups together, some acquaintances become friends, some don't, some befriend one another or introduce me to new people that I can add to my list and so on. Watching a that 'web' grow was a magical thing for me and it's something that I miss dearly. I understand there are people that just want to get their dungeon done and go. That's fine. As I mentioned in the original post: convenience vs. community (speaking strictly in terms of dungeon running, of course. I'm not implying that you're out to destroy the community if you don't want to wait longer for a dungeon run.) Great discussion on both sides, everyone. Keep it up.

What’s this all about?: Balmung’s Finest acts as a ‘looking for group’ channel for those interested in running dungeons with other players on Balmung server. Why not just queue for the Duty Finder?: I try to start a group with players from our server before resorting to the Duty Finder because I believe in community over convenience. The joys of building trust, establishing a rapport, and making friends are often lost in the cross-server Duty Finder groups. Why should I join?: This linkshell is for those who share my passion for building a strong community through the cooperative play of running dungeons (and eventually raids) with players right here on Balmung. The goal is to learn from and encourage one another.
