I will be honest and say that I have yet to go in search of RP since I would like to max my level first (and haven't had time to get online enough to be able to do that, yeah, I am one of those people that wants to make it to end game before I dive into RP) but every time in the afternoon and night (EST) I always find someone roleplaying at fallground floats within my quick moment of running through the city. If you like fights, or just want to meet people, every Wednesday and Saturday there is a Grindstone Tourny (open to all, think more of a fight club but with a few safety rules) outside Nald Gate on the bridge just outside of Ul'dah. (Nald gate? I get Nald and Thal mixed up ..it's the one right across from the Adventurer's Guild in Ul'dah) There is usually a good 15-20+ people turnout. One thing you could do as well is join the OOC RP chat Intermission and whenever you're in the mood to RP throw out a chat in the LS and ask if any roleplay is happening or if anyone wants to spark something up, never hurts to ask.

As most have already hit it, specially K's post, since people do use information they are given without even realizing it. It happens subconsciously for many, all I can really add to this is a suggestion of the way I do things.

When I play a female character, I get much more roleplay. Instantly with the same or other groups. I find this rather interesting and confusing as in other communities I have seen it the other way around. I really cannot give input into this as I haven't played female characters. Many others above me have given good reasonings however that I could see being very valid aspects in the community. People don't want to roleplay with quiet bookish characters, or characters who are more neutral with their emotions. People want a character who over-reacts or is vibrant about X, Y, Z. Unless there is a close OOC relationship first that leads into it, I have only really roleplayed well with this kind of character before (Dieuvont) because we knew each other from GW2 before coming here. I tried to play a more reserved character in the beginning (Nahv'ir) and ended up changing over to Shae'ra because it was very hard to interact with others. As Lament mentioned, it's harder to roleplay with these type characters because the person has to want to know more enough to stick around and poke and pride. It can be hard when you feel like you are leading everything, however, characters of this type can do really well once they learn to help carry things along. (Example: Just answering questions and nothing more cuts off whereas answering then questioning or answering then bringing up more information to go off of is helping to carry the RP) If I offer to help it is instantly pushed aside for someone. I think here it depends what kind of help. Are you purposing to heal someone? I am personally not a fan of total healing (as IC actions = IC consequences to me ) If my character gets hurt, he has to live with it and deal with it: so I will dismiss healing assistance. Also, some people don't want help if they think that they're going to be replaced in the roleplay scenario. I think here it depends on the person and what kind of help is being offered. If I set up plot, it is put aside for other rp with other people. As someone who comes up with plots to run, I know this can be annoying at times. But I find it's best to hook up on skype and run a detailed plot (this is for plots that are like stories. I have one plot I ran with 3 others that I put into word processor afterward and turned out to be 36 pages long, single spaced.) This way you can roleplay over the course of a few days and deem it as something that doesn't happen until the roleplay ends. This way, any roleplay during when the plot is going isn't effected by the plot (injuries, knowledge, etc). Even after introducing myself and roleplaying for a few good hours, I wont be contacted again for further roleplay - by anyone. It happens. It takes a while and several times of roleplaying to get into where people call back upon you. Most people call upon guild mates (fc mates) first before newer people that they have met unless they have a 'need' for you. I've trialed runnng a few plots for myself and others to get involved with such as: IC Dungeons runs for 'research' or adventuring purposes. A plot dealing with poachers and chocobo chick thieves. Researching Leviathan. Take to mind that not everyone can really do IC dungeon runs. Unfortunately, I am one of them. I am no good at one-liners or quick typing (I like my details) and IC dungeons are quick, fast paced and there is little actual roleplay going on - specially since, as Val mentioned, the timers are eating away on the side before you get kicked. I think you have good ideas for things, just might not be finding the right people thus far for them. Perhaps making a listing of the plot, say the Researching Leviathan one, you could get people who are interested on the forums and then work a way into the game. Example: Say 5 people are interested in it, then have it be that they found out about the task from a (npc) boy/girl who was going around asking questions about Leviathan, when they mentioned that they were trying to do research, said NPC could ask if the RPer's character wanted to help on the research - then there. Just make sure to include server and available times. So you don't have people who can never log in at the same time due to timezones. Is there anything people can tell me that wont mean I have to rewrite my Keeper male? All I can say is to keep at it and find a LS to build up connections in. It takes a while to build them up, but it's do-able. I would only rewrite your character if you personally desire it, like I needed to redo Nahv'ir into Shae'ra because I wasn't enjoying Nahv'ir's style anyway. Don't change your character for other people otherwise you might not even enjoy the RP you get if you don't like roleplaying the character.

Howdy and welcome back into the realm. Your main story will do a decent job to recap the basics of the ending story of 1.0 over to 2.0, though, you may also be interested in watching the non-legacy introduction to the game as we have two different beginning cutscenes. (easy to find on youtube) Both Balmung and Gilgamesh have OOC linkshells to hook up with the community in game which I recommend, I know on Balmung we are on our 3rd OOC hub. I can't speak for Gilga as I'm not on that server. Since I'm not sure what server you are on, all I can offer is that you look through the linkshells on your selected server and see which ones you are interested in on an IC level. Either way, since you can have up to 8 linkshells, I would still join the OOC RP hub for your server to keep connected. If you have any specific questions about things, I am sure people are more than willing to help with answering them. If you need a more in depth ending lore recap of 1.0 I found this a bit ago and while it's long, it was a good resource to me.

That's Chinese, man. Look how much more sense it makes when you translate it into English directly from Chinese. Even though it makes more sense in Chinese (due to being Chinese, shocker!) the Japanese version was the best. Though, I am really wondering what the point of the bot/post was other than a waste of time?

Why are there only two? Roleplay communities are small to begin with, spreading us apart will make it harder and harder for people to find roleplay anywhere. There have even been complaints on Balmung and Gilgamesh that people are having a hard time finding open roleplay: more servers would make it much harder. Most people want to be in an established community as they don't want to log in for RP and find nobody is ever there (which happens when you're starting up a new community on a new server) Most will flock to established over one that is building. But the worlds are full! I believe you can still get on them rather easily last time I checked. I made a new character a couple weeks ago even though the world was 'full'. Just wait til a time in which most people are not active and then you can bring a character into the world. I have done this several times to test it (making and deleting characters on Balmung) Best times seem to be 4-5am EST. The world is only full if you are during prime time, then it wont allow you to make new ones on that server. You can still play during prime times or whenever you want after your character is made, just not creating a new one to put on that world. Admins being Overlords Most unofficial RP servers are chosen by the RP community via a voting system as a whole. The two here were chosen to have a primary and secondary as well as a legacy and non-legacy. When the worlds were full, I believe some people started up roleplay over on Faeire (or some F-world) The topic may be brought up by those who have volunteered to run RPC, but I highly doubt that they sat down and determined things then just told everyone how it was to be. Everyone is free to do as they wish on the game, the admins of RPC do not run the game nor do they hold special powers within it. They are people who have volunteered their time and effort to help moderate the place and make it better, keep trolling away, tame the drama beasts that run through some threads now and then, and play clean up as well as helping those who are new on the forums.

I'd like to say that I find this oddly amusing since the community I came from was the opposite. (Anyone else TC: GW2?) There, it seemed like everyone was a criminal and there were few good guys. Here, it amuses me that it is so opposite. What is the hesitation with playing a criminal mind, or any "baddy" for that matter? Perhaps it has to do with the community as a whole and the 'acceptance' feeling. If people do not feel they will be accepted among the community for going another route (which could lead to no roleplay) they may be put off of going such route. In GW2, as mentioned above, everyone was criminal so it was actually harder for people who were 'good' or 'lawful' to get anywhere since criminals don't want to share information with people who might report them. Here, it could very well be the opposite: so many good guys that any bad guy stands no chance. Are there any with characters like the one described in the first observation? If so what inspired you to go that route as opposed to the other? I quite love playing devious characters and ones who go along the lines of criminals. However, I always give my character a reason for why he does it that, if known, perhaps isn't so 'bad' after all, it's just the way he goes about things that is 'wrong'. That said, I love playing caring characters but with devious undertones or devious intent behind his caring face. I currently am playing a Garlean. I am not playing a true 'baddy' since his heart isn't out for needless murder or cold-hearted blackmail. But when I play these type characters, I go with my character quote of "I'm not the bad guy, but I'm nobody's hero" as well as "If I can justify it to myself, I can do it" meaning he is grey-zoned and depending on his logic: if he can justify murder - he can (attempt to) do it. If he cannot justify it: he simply won't do it. He has his own moral scale that doesn't always line up with the rest of the society. Do you agree or disagree that there needs to be some sort of balance struck? Balance is always important any where you go. Good guys cannot be good unless there are bad guys, bad guys cannot be bad unless there are good guys. Remove one and what is there to determine the other's definition (if there is no 'bad' in the world, how do we define 'good'? ) However, I also do not believe in forcing people to play something or another just for a balance. If people should have the right to roleplay whichever kind of character they wish. I do hope that over time a balance will be found. I do believe there are many 'less than favorable' guys out there -- I think it's a matter of finding them as most, smart, criminals wont run around singing at the top of their lungs about the slices of Lalafell they left in the back alley.

Howdy and I welcome you with dance times: Most people seem to be inviting for new roleplayers and willing to help, if you enjoy writing stories: roleplaying takes that to a whole new level so I certainly hope you enjoy your time and can find a good bunch of people to both learn from and roleplay with. Questions are always a good thing if you aren't sure of something and a good majority of the community is more than willing to help.

Are you still willing for Art Trades or closed that off with all the other work? -
The very first character I played in an MMO (RP wise) was a blind one. It can be quite fun but can also be challenging at points, which I enjoyed. I have quite the funny stories behind him as well. That said: I learned quite a bit from it. I think the aether aspects would work fine to aid her in getting around. As for : It could develop naturally. As a blind person walks around and listens: you would develop more sensitive hearing thus allowing you to hear the bounce back of sounds off objects near you. If you listen to your own foot falls (with sensitive/developed hearing due to being blind for a while) you'd be able to hear when you're approaching a wall versus walking in the open. However, this, much like the aether thing, also would be rather difficult in busy locations since you are getting sounds from all around you and it would be much harder to focus on a specific one.

What do you want to see added to the game in the future?
Shae'ra replied to Dravus's topic in FFXIV Discussion
My list: Item / Armour Preview Perma-Kneel Perma-Lay Down/Sleep More Mounts Ability to send items from one character to another without having to go through a friend to transfer said items. Ability to dye more sets The Appearance Tab ♥ Body Sliders: I would love to play a shorter, more child-like Elezen..but that child face on that huge, lanky body just doesn't sit right with me. Why can't we make one proportional like the Twins? I do believe someone reported that SE mentioned they were in the process of working on an Appearance Tab so that you can keep all your normal armour on, but then toggle an appearance tab so that it appears as another set: however the appearance set has no effects of actual armour stats. If so: I cannot wait for this as it will aid greatly in diversity at end-game. -
I know SE is busy (or supposed to be) with a lot of the account issues with bots. I was speaking to someone in a dungeon run about how her account was taken away and they told her it would be about a week before she could have her account back, but then three weeks went by. I had a few questions for SE as well and submitted them (mostly about the fantasia and if there are name changes available/when they would be) however, I was told no name changes and they didn't give me an estimate. On regards to fantasia: I was told to ask players for help. Was a rather elusive reply, kind of gave me information but also didn't completely answer anything in particular. I am glad to hear you got your situation resolved by calling the EU center, I will have to remember that method in case something comes up. I hope that SE:NA will be able to settle into a good form of customer service once all the chaos dwindles down.

Ah, in that case then I wouldn't want to start over either. Hopefully poking around on a character to see the activity will grant you a fair view on which server will fit you best. The places I have seen and/or roleplayed at thus far were the Bismark and Drowning Wench (Limsa) Orchon's Torch (by Moraby Drydock0s, Lower La Noscea but it's usually a duo or set thing vs random rp) The bridge outside the Gate of Nald (Forget which Thanaland Nald's gate takes you to, but that one.) As for inside the major cities, I've seen the most RPers in Limsa, then comes Ul'dah, then Gridania. Though, times does make it a big difference. I usually see roleplayers around 10ish-11ish to 2ish-3ish EST in these locations and I haven't been seeking out roleplay either, just running around to talk to NPCs or use the easy teleport around the city. I'm sure most these places make logical sense, but figured I might as well share in hopes to help, right?

There is roleplay in Balmung (least every night I have seen it or been a part of it) though, most of it is not in the main cities from what I have seen. If you do not want to involve yourself with a FC/guild : Have you considered a simple linkshell? An example would be most the RP I have done so far is with the Grindstone who communicates with one another through LS (both IC and OOCly) and there are no obligations like one might find in a guild/FC. More of a quick way to hook up and do some roleplay. Intermission(s)(The OOC RP hub) can be good for getting roleplay, though most people I have roleplayed with have not been something set up via them so I cannot really speak on how well that works or how well it doesn't as I am lacking experience in that area. Perhaps an idea might be to create your same character over on Gilgamesh that you wish to roleplay with so that you may roleplay with either server and/or then decide which you prefer more?

I know of several Miqo'te who have unconventional names and are claiming that they are raised by Hyur or that they abandoned their tribe name and changed it when they moved in to the city. As long as there a reason behind it for IC purpose, I think you're safe.

I personally think adding racial benefits, although logical, will end up with more complications down the line and complaints versus not having it in place. I understand that a Lalafell is merely a football to a Roe, but then the poor Lalafell would most likely lose just because of race. If a fight is unmatched or silly: it can still be amusing. I have had my character in another game KO'd by a girl tripping and hitting him with a frying pan because my roll was lower and that was my last HP. The less complicated the system: the more likely people won't feel intimidated. If it gets too above and beyond - people start to not even want to try due to the confusion of it. I wouldn't mind doing some training rounds with the rolling system to help out with figuring that out. Some of the timing matters will also be based upon pairings and how much each person types. Some will make their actions simple, others will go full detail. If there are many people participating: could always group off and have, say, four groups running at the same time (8 contestants) then the winners of those fight winners (down to 4) so that time wise, you're moving forward faster rather than one fight at a time. (Though for this, I recommend making more rooms in rolz.org instead of everyone in one) I wouldn't mind helping out or doing training /roll fights to see how they go and gauge the fights. Will toss you a friend request in game if you're on. (/great wall of text)

1d100 or 1d20 will still have the same odds so completely up to you. Reason a 1d100 was used in my experiences was because there was an added crit/counter bonus for if you doubled (I'll explain in a spoiler that method as to not make this too long)
-
Rolz.org allows anyone with the room name to join in so you can also have the Overseers join. While we'd (people in general) hope everyone would just be honest: It's best to have a ref/overseer present as well. Though, as to the main question: yes, you will be able to see all other rolls done in the room. You can also tag your rolls, in 2 v 2 (or more) it's common to put Miah: /1d100 #Attack @ Nahv'ir Nahv'ir: /1d100 #Defense @ Miah Helps so that people know where the attack is going and the defense for if the in-game text if flying by too much with other players. Helps the ref keep tabs on HP counts or hit counts as well.

Looks good and is well organized. One question did dawn on me while reading over: Is the LS for IC communications, OOC communications, or both? Also, a small suggestion might be for 'reasons to join' perhaps someone could come by as a medic/healer for tending to the fighters afterward if they need it.

Her figure arched forward, ribs curling down toward her abdomen as her arm, acting as a slingshot, whipped forward with all her might. With her footing planted heavily in place to add power through the swivel of her hips and torso, she gave a twist of her wrist to finish the maneuver. Siobhain released the shield from her grasp and let it whirl through the air with tremendous force. A gruesome sound soon followed as the metal collided with the skull of the once-fleeing archer, that sound soon followed by the thud of the body hitting the earth and laying motionless in minor contortion. Siobhain approached the unconscious archer to thrust a heavy boot upon his back, her throwing arm raising up so that her bicep was straight out from her body, elbow bent as her arm curled up parallel to her body: a flexed pose of triumph. 'Muria 1: Eorzea 0. (/butchers your character... It is too late, I am too tired, ignore my BS o/)

I must have missed that or misread, my apologizes. Hm chasing down an archer? That could be amusing to watch. Send a bunch of melee out to hunt down an archer. A ...strange game of tag. 'Cept, well, if the archer gets caught he's royally messed up. But eh, details.

As long as the gear is taken into consideration with how it is roleplayed (least to a point) I see no reason you can't wear whatever you and or mix and match for roleplay. Heck, I do. Plate is heavier than robe wear, so I wouldn't be roleplaying doing cartwheels and backflips in it, but I don't see why an arcanist couldn't find himself some plate and squeeze his body into it. To not allow such things: logically that is like saying a swimmer couldn't put on football gear.
-
If I may, I recommend that people are given an option between rolling or not. So those who are alright with just doing it and seeing where it goes can run that route. I myself -unless I have to now- will not do a roll duel/fight. I did one recently on rolz.org where my character was below subpar (literally missed every hit and was hit every time) because the generator never gave a number over 30. I went with it and blamed it on him showing up to practice drunk (yay improv, usually I have him lose fights to play along with others, but this just took losing to a whole other level, I knew he was bad - but that bad..he might need to rethink life.) I am a pretty fair person when it comes to IC fights therefore I prefer purely RPd out. If it's a roll-only club, I might be able to drop by to watch, but I'd likely not end up participating. Though, on the fact of rolls: for people who want a rolling system since the game doesn't have it (or at least it's not /roll /dice /number as I tried those) there is rolz.org. I think the idea will be quite interesting and is a way for people to roleplay fights without necessarily having to have a rival/enemy person to do it with (or starting tavern brawls) Most RP sparing and training I have participated in or seen gets to pick up a weapon and go with it (whether real or fake) regardless of in-game mechanics as most RPers don't heavily take into play their profession beyond the gear they're wearing and the weapon they have, granted, weapons aren't limited to just what you see in-game. Such as, my archer carries around several knives (roughly daggers) on him for many different purposes - fighting up close being one reason. This also goes for magic classes. Burning my character in a ring of fire is not on my to-do list, I'd rather have him take a sword hit or knife puncture somewhere. I would assume many people who play characters that are going to be interested in a fight club are going to have their characters gifted/trained/trial-and-errored some experience with hand-to-hand or basic melee abilities despite whatever the game mechanics may say. I don't believe you'll have a big issue with archers trying to use their bows when it's friendly(ish) fighting, blunted or not - RPing kiting around can get old really fast for all parties involved.
