M-Merri Senpai...this is...This is so sudden! Are you SURE we should let the world know about our Miqo-on-Hyur love? /animeschoolgirlblush -
Blue, excellent thinking, have a promotion reputation. I, too, find myself in these places wondering where everyone is, and what makes the Quicksand so popular? My character's a sort of an early Final Fantasy styled Freelancer, so there's no way he could be a professor, but an on-and-off mentor would fit him fine with his roaming habits.

The First Annual Royal Ball of Ul'dah
Zac Evans replied to Erik Mynhier's topic in Chronicled Events
This was effin' wicked! Balmung NEEDS to organize more events. Seriously. -
Well, Zac has a weird pseudo-Keeper of the Moon relationship with women. Being raised mainly by his mother, grandmother and aunts, he learned it was best to do what women say when the say it, as well as to be kind and courteous. On the other hand, he feels that at times he isn't 'manly' enough and tries to be macho. Not in the whole 'Get back in the kitchen while being barefoot, pregnant with my child and making me a sandwich' but a whole 'You swing an axe for a living? Why not be a tailor instead? Goldsmiths make a good living.' More prone to embarrassing himself and offending a woman in his macho moods than sweeping them off their feet, clutching them tight to his muscle-y hairy man-chest and riding off baerback on a black chocobo into a glorious golden sunset with long, luxurious locks whipping in the breeze.

Whoa whoa whoa, wait. We can't glamour it?!

Did someone say Jabberwocky? Heya! Never really get to RP with Tias. Everyone wants to be a manly-chested Nuhn with females of every race on each arm, with their tails wrapped around a cutesie Lala!

Berserk :: Meet & Greet for Disciples of War
Zac Evans replied to CrimsonMars's topic in Chronicled Events
Why do I get the feeling I'm gonna be the only Midlander in sight? I swear, I'll feel like a child playing at being an adult surrounded by Highlanders and Roegadyns. -
RE: Episodic Rp event (final draft ver. 1 up for opinions) (Balmung)
Zac Evans replied to Askier's topic in RP Discussion
Hells yeah! This sounds awesome! I'd love to join in on the Eorzean side of things. Zac's a smart cookie, so I feel he'd work well for the riddles. It's things like this that make this community awesome. -
Seeking RP Partners for a Newbie. (Balmung)
Zac Evans replied to phlogistonia's topic in RP Discussion
Hey hey hey! I'm Zac, welcome to the community! My schedule is a bit hectic as of late with it almost being con season, but I'd be glad to role play with you! It's been a while, and I'm a bit rusty, so I think I'd be good practice for you. Just message Zachary Evans in game. -
Race you for the catboys. You will not get a catboy harem faster than me. ONETWOTHREEGO!

How Does Your Character React To Physical Touch?
Zac Evans replied to Dat Oni's topic in Character Workshop
Zac doesn't have a problem-he'll slap five, body bump and engage in an intricate fifteen minute long secret handshake-unless it's either a handsome guy or pretty woman doing anything in any real flirtatious manner at all. At that point he becomes a beet-red, stammering, shy cutie-pie. Think of it this way, senpai caught you unaware and unprepared by noticing you. -
This. But in all seriousness, don't sweat it champ! We've got insane names that have nothing to do with the persons -Horsebomb Laserdog for example!- character, but they get along just fine!

Role-playing alongside the storyline: YOU did WHAT?!
Zac Evans replied to Zac Evans's topic in RP Discussion
Well, I found all kinds of differing viewpoints here. By taking the time and reading each post I got a deeper glimpse not only into the mindset of roleplayers here in the Coalition, but also into the various methods of roleplaying possible. I now see that what I had thought wasn't stepping on anybodies toes was in fact just a massive slap followed up with a backhand to the entire community. Retconning is something that just jumped its way to the top of my list in things I need to do in the coming days. My luck is that I've scarcely RPed in the past month due to working excessive overtime, so I was never able to put the Castrum aspect into my background. Hell, dropping an war airship (Air warship? War Airship? Meh.) with an experimental cannon developed to drop large airborne dragons from the sky would be just as interesting taking place in skirmishes inside the Castrum. I want to thank all of you for taking the time to teach me where I erred in my decision, and even more thanks for helping me become a better roleplayer! With that said, I draw this thread to a close! -
Heya! If you need help leveling, I'm your man. I can tank! I LOVE to tank! I'm the tanking-est damned thing you ever saw! As for roleplaying, don't sweat it. From my experiences everyone here is top shelf. Heck, I thought I new how to roleplay, but everyone's been kind enough to help make me an even better roleplayer. Just look for what you want in friends here, and you're sure to find it.

Granted Elezen do have higher intelligence stat-wise in game-Midlander Hyur and Lalafell being tied for second-but I'm looking at it from the lore pages from pre-release. Which...is looking really bad for me because I'll be damned if I can find them, I can only find the references off of several wikis that for all I know may have been cut 'n pasted from a rambling mad mans blog. Although these guys (http://ffxivrealm.com/wiki/hyur/) posted sources and have a very thorough page in my opinion. But from what I can gather is that during the three great migration which brought the Hyur to Eorzea, they brought with them sophisticated technology. what constitutes sophisticated tech? Don't ask me, could be indoor plumbing for all I know, and it's crap compared to Garlean Magitek and Allagan everything. And this next part is speculation, but I take it that Elezen are more wise than intelligent due to an enlongated life span. Now don't get me wrong, Coerthas has a huge library devoted to astrology and the like but the feel of it overall is that of a massive record storehouse that uses the more mystical aspects of the science of astrology to try and foretell the future paired with logs on dragons and dravians. A purely single-minded pursuit instead of a treasure trove of earthly knowledge.

Alright, lemme put a cork in this right now. Midlanders are your typical 'intelligence' race, with what we know about them being that they're trained in their letters from infancy and tend to be more intelligent that the other races. In your 'perfect lore-based world', we Middies would be holding a conversation about the long-term detriments of aether exposure in dungeon delving adventurers as opposed to the long-term detriments of aether exposure to soldiers constantly battling freshly summoned Primals to later be penned for a tome, while most other races-Lalas are actually very quick witted, so they'd most likely chime in with valuable input-would say 'lolwaht?'. This NEVER happens to be the case because NO ONE wants to be a dummy-most feel it's beneath them. It's no fun to feel like you have noticeable flaws when you could be 'Too loyal to a fault' or 'Work entirely too hard' or the popular choices of haughty behavior and lack of trust. You'll find out pretty damned fast that EVERYONE has the rough equivalent of a high school diploma. Is this bad? Meh, I'd like to feel like the Middies have something special about them, but the community would have to accept that they'd have to go from intelligent to wise if they want to be 'smart'. BIG difference in the two. It's easy to say everyone's intelligent because that's something that can't really be measured, not like strength. Take comparing a Lalafell to a Roegadyn. We both know who's stronger, you can argue until the cows come home but that ain't gonna change the fact that the eight foot eight behemoth of a sentient being can most likely bench press an engine block with their bare hands where the cute little humanoid doll would be instantly crushed. Intelligence on the other hand? I could rant and rave all day but I'll sum in up here. You could roleplay an elderly character who's devoted their entire life to the pursuit of knowledge, yet there will always be more fresh-faced youth characters who can talk you around the block on any subject you so choose-even if you happen to be the sole reasearcher and pioneer in that field. TL;DR: We ARE special. We're not ALLOWED to be special.

Role-playing alongside the storyline: YOU did WHAT?!
Zac Evans replied to Zac Evans's topic in RP Discussion
You make a very valid point Kieron! And that may have been where I erred previously. My character's no hunter of the most powerful Primals, bane of Garlemald or all Twelve in a single mortal vessel! I just thought it would be interesting to have been near key events in the first storyline of ARR. Heck, one of the only real things I wanted from the storyline was to be a Scion and actually take part in Operation Archon. It just seemed from what I saw wandering their not-so-secret hide-away was that they had people from all walks of life with their own set of skills to bring to the table. Hell! Even more so when they got reformed later in the story! But I suppose claiming to have been in the party that actually stopped Ultima Weapon may seem like a bit much, even if ones character does have the Echo and such. OUCH! So straight to the point I'm surprised I don't have whiplash, Ashren! I know what I said about Gaius may've been misleading to the point of me putting him on a glorious golden pedestal, but that really wasn't my intent. I was just analyzing him through the events that led up to the final fight and from what I understand happened in version 1.0. He single handedly fought off Y'shtola, Yda, Papalymo, and Thancred, who are some of the Scions top combatants and highest-ranking members, which are recognized by the leaders all three city-states-Scions, that is-as a cut above the high ranking officers of their own respected Grand Companies. He had the undying loyalty and NEED to be recognized by all of his direct subordinates-who also took eight players each to beat-as well as being one of Garlemald's generals. I didn't mean to make it sound like he was a god walking amount us filthy and unworthy peons, but he was DEFINIETLY a cut above an eight-man team. I'm not even gonna explain Ultima Weapon, because that thing was just damn horrifying. And as to me killing them? Hell no! Not in a million years! That was the Praetorium. It killed him. In a massive, raging eruption that made me giggle my butt off right after U.W. detonated. Whoawhoawhoawhoa! Slow your roll there Nebbs, I may be a perfect-in-every-way, egotistical, narcissistic, self-absorbed, vain d-bag but I'm not trying to be the main hero of the land! I agree, trying to be or being around someone who's trying to be the special and unique little glittering snowflake can be UTTERLY infuriating, but what's wrong with trying to go a little beyond? I could never do the whole 'I'm just gifted this way! The world wants mME to do all this, now carry my baggae, hater's gonna hate!" nonsense, but from a story perspective, hard work and discipline can yield results just as much as who you know and how you know them. I completely agree with you though on the give and take, and like I replied to Kieron, maybe what I thought was toeing the line yet still acceptable was much too much. -
I'm creating this thread to try and understand a few things that have been bothering me for quite a while-ever since my Calming the Inner Beast thread a while back. It seems that I engage in a constant faux pas when it comes to role-playing, and that is integrating the pre-set story line for non RPers into my own timeline. I don't understand why people shy away from this, even though I do understand it's fun to create your own story and play by your own rules. I've read of amazing things like magitek limbs and ancient magics lost to time through the community's own imagination and I love it! By why is it frowned upon to do things like be a member of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn? A prime example is this. In my character's backstory-what with the patch occurring as I type bringing the sixth umbral era to a close-Zac was an adventurerer who took place in Operation Archon, and was in the party that battled not only Gaius Van Baelsar, but stopped Ultima Weapon from being used against the Eorzea. I see it as this-the 'Adventurer' is the 'main' character in all of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and even though many of us are adventurers, we are not THE Adventurer. To go on, from the destructive power Ultima Weapon had at its disposal, and the sheer amount of unadulterated skill Gaius possessed, that was MUCH more than a low double digit man job. I just deleted about four more paragraphs because I felt I was rambling, so I'll quit beating around the bush and ask. Is integrating key points in the ARR timeline into your backstory acceptable as long as no one person makes it all about them?

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 2.1 - A Realm Awoken
Zac Evans replied to allgivenover's topic in FFXIV News
I think I just sh*t my britches. First off, Gunner. You can't EVER convince me I didn't just see someone fire a gun. Second, Hildibrand! You know you want him. Third, the Aesthetician was simply-and you HAVE to read this is the most flaming way possible- FAAABUUULOOOOOOOOUSSSS~! -
I'm kinda with Erik on this one. My real name is Zachary Evans-fits perfectly with Midlander naming conventions. Now, granted, I could've given it a hyper fantasy-esque spin such as Zachariah G. Evanson Esq. the problem with it though is it didn't fit the whole farm boy scheme. Think of fantasy novel! Does the farm boy thrust out into the dangerous world EVER have an amazing eighty-seven syllable name lavished with titles and deep, DEEP meaning? Nah. It's usually things like Mat, Thom, Zac and Avere opposed to Stormageddon von World-Breaker, Alouisoux Delacroix, or Magnificent Lequise!! But everyone's right. All the way from 'special snowflake' to 'lore reasons'. Everyone stay the hell away from the name Alouisoux Delacroix! I need to use that.

Oooooh sweet Lordy Jeus, I've got one for the ages. Just you have to understand this story made me quit an MMO. I dunno if I got banned, but it made me log out, delete my character, and cancel my subscription. Now I live in the heartland of the USA, and while not everyone is your stereotypical inbred-whitetrash-podunk-NASCAR lovin'-gun toting-cousin kissin' piece of Ku Klux crap...they DO exist. One of these people happened to be the father of my baby cousin. By the time my older cousin had left this hick, the baby's first word had been a racial slur, and his entire vocabulary had expanded to more than this one particular racial slur. Fast-forward about a month to the time my older cousin had developed a pseudo nursery rhyme to teach her son that these were no-no words. I was explaining all this to my friend while engaging in some jolly Trade chat, and when he asked for the rhyme, I told him. In Trade. Now I'm going to censor this, but understand that these were slurs for african americans. '***-***, *****, ******, ***** These are words I will not say!' That's right. I dropped four of the WORST racial slurs EVER!!! It goes on, but this is more than enough to get my embarrassment across. Do not try and top me. /Championshipbeltforstupidity

Hello hello hello! Marvelous to see we've got some dungeon RPers in the making! I agree with you, awesome as all get-out, but it's always a rush. The name's Zachary Evans! Feel free to poke me in-game whenever, or just start a conversation at any point!

Heck, gimme a call when you need to be free of magical bookworms for a while! It'd be interesting. Zac's a weapon junkie, as far from a magical class as could be. Don't be afraid to just come up and talk whenever you see me, okay?

Welcome to Balmung! To join the role-playing community, you have to slay a Behemoth all by your lonesome. Good luck! /evilface
