Help of a different kind - Private Chamber design
Swift Nightclaw replied to Swift Nightclaw's topic in Character Workshop
Thanks! Swift is going to have a room remodel this weekend (his is much more Doman style since NIN is my only focused job for him), but really starting to brainstorm plans for my alt's room. Just have to rank up with the Grand Company.....to have permission to get a room... in our own house. >_> -
Apologies first if another location would be better for posting this. That said, I'm looking for help of a different kind than typical character/story/RP ideas. It's actually with one of my character's private chamber! The character's origins are from my own original story I've been brainstorming and picking at for years (geez, over a decade now?). In the world she's from, she's from essentially Japan, so Doma would be the closest FFXIV equivalent we have (I haven't really fleshed out the concept for her Eorzea version, so don't worry too much on "Doman details" here ), and she's a (mostly) reformed pirate. I'd like to design her private chamber to give that "pirate captain's quarters" feel to it and I'm trying to decide what should go in there. Obviously the treasure chest, but other than that, I was hoping some creative types might help with some suggestions. The easy road would be to use a lot of the Limsa designed furniture, but I do want to be a bit creative. Considering the canopy bed for some luxury (any other suggestions?), a desk with papers and a globe, a map on the wall, the wheel on the wall, etc. Should a former pirate captain's room be cluttered, do you think? I figured I'd find a ton of reference pictures with a google search, but surprised I'm having a challenge finding others with pirate theme private chambers. Any suggestions would be most welcome!

I did a transcript (man, links are hard to see here) as best I could while watching it.

First off: Apologies if this isn't the best place for this post. Wasn't 100% sure where it should go. Hi folks. Been scarce around here. Unfortunately my time to get into RPing on XIV has proven scarce as I've been trying to put more effort into dedicated time for writing, so my Free Company has shifted from plans for a RP FC to basically just being a group of RL friends. There's 6 of us making up the FC, but we wouldn't exclude others we got along with or anything. However, that's not the purpose of this post! What we're in real need of is a few allies that might be interested in running raids. We're not aggressively pushing for progression, but we would like to be able to push into Bahamut's Coil and Extreme Primals. We're a laid back group...You might say "They are a silly lot" even. We need 2 people to join us, usually on Wed nights around 8 PM CST and it doesn't necessarily have to be 2 static spots. If we had 5 or 6 people interested from other FCs (or a quarter of a ho-jillion) that are on around that time who don't have their own group and might wanna hop in once in a while, we'd be delighted to build that network of friends. (Unfortunately "Debauchery Tea Party" Linkshell was taken). :3 We have, for sure: 2 tanks (PLD and a WAR who threatens he's leaving to be RDM when it comes along) 1 healer (WHM) 3 DPS (monk-to-be-ninja, BLM ((BLM also has been healing as WHM lately...and also claims RDM is his)), and bard) If anyone's interested, please let me know here or poke me in game!

I chose monk solely as a placeholder until ninja. I'm right there with you.

"Same as the old boss" was the only thing that came to mind seeing the thread title.

It is, but got delayed. I've been so focused on leveling and seeing the main story , I haven't spent time building up the FC/LS with Roleplayers and exploring RP myself. I blame Square for an engaging story! And I was out of game due to work for a couple weeks! It's been super busy. :dazed: Will be getting back into Eorzea more regularly and looking for folks to help build this. I have the Linkshell ready and the FC is formed (rank 5) though the other members are Non-RPers (RL friends, but they're nice peoples).

I've not seen anything official on this in game, but I'd imagine they'd simply be seen as the women of their tribe. It doesn't seem too often that multiple nunhs are living in the same area, so it's basically just the women of their tribe. I don't get the impression they'd be considered wives as there's not really any mutual love between them so much as he's the best breeding stock and he'll father her children if she's going to have them. In the desert in south Thanalan, a miqo'te female basically asks her sister when her next breeding is set for. So I'd imagine the nunh sees them as his women of his tribe. Regarding the monks, I think this is the easiest way to think of it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chakra jwSoCaqNYHk You can also think of the chakra and all the stuff related to the monks along the same lines as Star Wars' The Force (which is also based of the ideas of qi)

Opinions on the V.O. for This Game
Swift Nightclaw replied to Tobias Nightbringer's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I think you're probably 100% on the money here. They weren't expecting the game to be this popular overall after 1.0, but I think like you said, they REALLY didn't expect this much interest outside of Japan. It's not niche anymore, though. Gaming seriously is not a niche market anymore. Now, the division of gaming; PC, Console, and the new bulk being social or app games, divides the issue a bit more. GTA V is not the fastest selling video game of all time. It is the fastest selling entertainment property of all time at 1 Billion dollars on sell through in THREE DAYS. It made $800 million in ONE day. The Avengers' 3-day box office take was just under 207.5 million. The Avengers' total gross is 1.5 billion dollars worldwide. Avatar sits as the highest box office gross of all time at 2.7 Billion over its entire theatrical release, but only 77 million its opening weekend. And a video game has shattered those 3 day records. The majority of gamers are in their 30s now, but the teens and 20s continue to enter the market. Female gamers have exploded with apps and social gaming. It's simply not a niche market anymore. However, you're right that the "blockbuster" or AAA titles are stifling the industry. Studios want the biggest return, so they play it safe with sequels instead of trying something new. That's not bad in its own right. Uncharted 2 and 3 arguably improved from the original Uncharted. Despite some opinions, I thought the new Tomb Raider was fantastically well done, and it did make a profit, just not as much as SE hoped. But then you have the Resident Evil series' downward slide, you've got a new Call of Duty every year. Both of which make money hand over fist, despite not being terribly well received. But is playing it safe anything we haven't seen before? Mega Man 2, 3, 4, 5 on NES? Tweaks, but the same basic formula. Fortunately, Sony and Microsoft seem to be realizing that AAA games can't carry the industry due to the high cost and risk of profit yield and are opening the doors to the indie games market more and more. Android and iOS already offer a great platform for indie games as well. With that opening wider, it gives a larger playing field to spread things out and even the largest studios might start trying their hand at smaller scope, simpler and less expensive games. The indie market is also proving that gamers love simpler games as much as the AAA titles and it doesn't have to be a summer blockbuster every release. (Seriously, Activision, you don't have the Bruckheimer us every year) Then you've got Mega Man's creator having recently looked for $900,000 in crowd sourcing for Mighty No. 9, the spiritual successor to Mega Man, and in 30 days they raised over 3 million dollars. I don't think we're heading for a dot com crash nor, more related, a video game crash of the 80s, but we're definitely going to see a different playing field in the next 5-10 years. -
What do you want to see added to the game in the future?
Swift Nightclaw replied to Dravus's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I really don't think people are understanding that they might have to accept another country's cultural views. Bottom line, it's their game, their decision. I still expect /sleep will be put in eventually, but if they don't it doesn't bother me too much. Nice, sure, but not a necessity. We've been RPing in MMOs without emotes, even without graphics, for years. That said, this IS a "what do you want to see" thread, so the wishlists can be anything each of us want/hope to see eventually. I only meant to reference Yoshida's comment, not to derail the intention of the thread. -

You can scream about it if you like, I'm just saying it's a Japanese game and they're going to do things that fits their culture. Japan is very much a culture where the collective good is more important than the individual. If they perceive a greater chance for distasteful imagery than a minority of RP benefit, they'll choose to avoid what they feel is inappropriate for their game rather than give the benefit of the doubt. If that's a massive problem, well, welcome to the shoe on the other foot. Heck, I've seen people throwing absolute bitch fits over maintenance being in "prime time hours." But it's not...in Japan. That said, please note I said the animators are working on figuring out what they want to do there and Yoshida has only advised caution. He didn't say a /sleep emote would never be put in game, just that they want to avoid inappropriate imagery. And again, innuendo in text may be perceived differently than imagery among the developers. And also again, there may even be different restrictions in Japan between the two. They can get away with damn near anything in video games, but their ratings/censorship does have peculiar nuances. I'm trying to find the transcript with EXACTLY what he said. Here it is, it's just a minor statement: y; Right now we don’t have a sleep motion, so the other day the motion team asked me if you wanted to do this soon? y; It makes it possible to come up with some dangerous images, so I’m telling them it has to be safe and not cross that line. y; Listen up everyone, don’t do anything bad. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/63655-Translation-Japanese-to-English?p=1322772&viewfull=1#post1322772 So I'm sure they'll offer something, but they're being mindful about it, that's all. -
Super over-used now, I'm sure, but I like it, so I'm going to use it again.... "The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you're hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. " I think that definitely goes towards the hero's character.

Except for my chocobo's name inspiration. Kuzco was an awesome protagonist. And K'uzco is an awesome chocobo. Pacha was a good guy too and totally relatable. And Lilo & Stitch weren't goody two shoes either. Okay, I'll stop and be good now. >_> <_< (K'uzco is an awesome chocobo) /runs away

I'm curious to see how that works out myself. I need to see what the actual items look like in use and on characters before I make a decision, but hell, it could look like it fits in with some of the other outfits. I'm not terribly familiar with Lightning, but the elezen female starting outfit has a similar design feel to me. I'll have to wait and see, but I'm sure a looooot of people will be wearing them at first. But I would just see them as having poor fashion sense IC.
