Yes, it is. Source: I watched an episode of Strike Witches. Haha, I'm a pretty big fan of the cute girls doing cute things in anime group, but I must admit first time I picked up Strike Witches I dropped if before finishing the first episode (back when it started airing.) Thinking wellllll that was weird. Hehehe, I never had any weird feeling on Strike Witches (my brain has created a compartment titled "WTF Japan?" that allows me to ignore some of the oddities per my American culture). Instead, I watched all of Strike Witches and came away with ".....meh, nothing special. It was okay, though." My most reason disappointment was Cat Planet Cuties. After reading comments that it was actually pretty good despite the obvious intent of fan service, I gave it a shot. I'll agree, with slightly toning down some fan service, the first half was a solid show, but it felt like they hit the story's climax/resolution at that point and the last half was just sort of fan service filler to stretch out the show. Seemed like they resolved the primary conflict way too early for the sake of more bouncy and nakey. Status: I am disappoint. Also, Sword Art Online.... $90ish dollars per blu ray and divided into 3 sets? Aniplex, I am FURIOUSLY DISAPPOINT! > I also liked Our Home's Fox Deity. Nice spin on the harem anime not having a real harem aspect.

Swift is actually a character based on kitsune mythology molded and altered to become a miqo'te for FF XIV. A lot of his personality is definitely still fox-like though Sorry I didn't link a pic, but I'd just steal Kylin's unused red fox from the first page.

My favorite take on it: "Being offended is subjective. It has everything to do with you as an individual, or a collective, or a group, or a society, or a community, your moral conditioning, your religious beliefs. What offends me may not offend you. I'm offended when I see boy bands. It's a valid offense. They're corporate shills posing as musicians to further a modeling career and frankly...I'm disgusted." Great stand up from comedian Steve Hughes.

I started in the mid to late 90s when the only US source for anime on television was Sci-Fi channel's Saturday morning "Japanimation" which was later changed to Saturday anime. First anime I saw: Akira Project A-Ko (Gray Side/Blue Side is actually my favorite of them) Record of Lodoss War Vampire Hunter D Ninja Scroll The Slayers I must have watched my Lodoss War VHS two dozen times, then I got the DVD later, then I got the Collector's Edition DVD. Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Samurai Champloo, Samurai Seven, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Sword Art Online,The Slayers, Hyper Police are some favorites. Witchblade is really good. I expected a fan service fest, but the story is actually good and has one of those "last 4 episodes kinda make you just wanna die" feeling. I liked Spice & Wolf, Seikirei, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, most Ghibli films really (except Totoro, I didn't care for it), Elfen Lied, Kino's Journey, and High School of Dead (ridiculous, I mean RIDICULOUS, fan service aside). Oh, and Our Home's Fox Deity (but I'm a fan of foxes and kitsune stories). Puella Magi Magica Madoka was tremendous as a deconstruction of the magical girl trope. I've only seen some of Attack on Titan. I kind of lost interest when they revealed the main character could turn into one or whatever. It seemed interesting, but then I felt it became "flesh mecha." I'll finish the anime to give it a fair shake. The World God Only Knows is one I HIGHLY recommend to any gamer. My "to watch" list is way too big. Probably going to finally watch Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood soon. And you can argue for or against defining it as anime, but Avatar: The Last Airbender is probably one of my favorite animated series of all times, hands down. It is a near perfectly told story with well paced character development to me. Waiting on Hellsing Ultimate OVA to be release in a complete set to watch that one. As for manga, I like Ai Yori Aoshi, Hyper Police, Et Cetera (very Trigun-esque and seems fairly unknown, but really good), and Akira. I used to read a lot more manga when I worked at a book store and could read them on break, check them out from work, and got a discount buying them. I don't read too much manga anymore, though.

Hydaelyn's voice isn't an Old English/European accent. It's Giladrielian. I swear the voice actress was doing a Cate Blanchett Galadriel for the role. Same inflection and intonation, same pacing to the speech.

Opinions on the V.O. for This Game
Swift Nightclaw replied to Tobias Nightbringer's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Nope. Sorry. Not agreeing with this. I guess I've just been spoiled by WoW (which blows my mind). Let's do some comparisons, shall we? This is the voice of Lorewalker Cho, an integral character to the Mists of Pandaria expansion. Tell me this isn't an amazing voice actor? Not really fair to throw Lorewalker Cho into the mix. That's like...cheating. Lorewalker Cho is freaking JIM CUMMINGS! Monterey Jack from Rescue Rangers. Don Karnage and Louie from Tale Spin. Winnie the Pooh, Tigger. Darkwing Duck himself! The voice of Ed in Lion King (so eloquent in that role, yes? haha) Dr. Robotnik from Sonic the Hedgehog FREAKIN' SHREDDER IN TMNT!!! Lorewalker Cho doesn't get to enter the comparison circuit. Jim is too awesome. Unless a game has Peter Cullen and Kevin Conroy as well. Blizzard heavily improved the voice acting in Mists of Pandaria by going to the actual actor's guild and pulling professional voice actors in for it. The voice acting for Final Fantasy XIV in English? Ehhhhh, not so great. I mean, I do like some of them, but others not so much. The Ul'dahn sultana is one of my favorites. Raubahn is hit or miss. His voice acting at Cartenau is pretty bad. The lack of inflection from Ken-E-Senna doesn't bother me, actually. She's not exactly entirely normal human, so perhaps that's common for her to speak in an unusual way to us. It's not bad enough for me to cringe, but like someone else said, it's generally either okay or underwhelming. What drives me nuts is how so many characters have some quasi-British but not British accent. Not the accent themselves, but....every person? Uldahn royalty lalafell, hyur, miqote...all same general accent? Disappointing, really. -
That's admittedly a bit of influence in the idea...minus quite as much jerkishness with the whole "might kill recruits, woops" aspect and the "we're the only ones who can save the world" part. And it turns out I created this before knowing about the Scions of the Sevent Dawn. I kind of think the Wardens of Light are a little less known, more secretive and not as notable to the city states. While the Scions are dealing with things like Primals, the Wardens' job is to track down the threats that might go unseen. I'll get more details up shortly!

Your stout and loveable chocobo (or other mount)
Swift Nightclaw replied to Swift Nightclaw's topic in RP Discussion
Hence my reference to naming a chocobo "Menchi." In the anime/manga Excel Saga, the main character has a dog she names Menchi who desperately tries to escape the apartment whenever possible because of his status as.........the emergency food supply. -

Swift Nightclaw replied to Swift Nightclaw's topic in RP Discussion
I told a friend to name it Menchi. Those who get the reference will find it amusing. =3 Daishi, I don't think that would fit...would the name be Iwoij? Hehehe Think I'm going with K'iiroh from Japanese Kiiro which simply means.....yellow. Nothing special there, but it sounds best from the choices I was thinking of. I like Suna, though. Very fitting for a miqo'te. -

... I called mine Anzu. >< Nothing wrong with Anzu! I just decided I was going to wait for the chance of a black chocobo for that name myself. I'm thinking Caladria for a white chocobo, named after Caladrius of Roman mythology. One could also spin the phoenix naming and use Feng, Huang, or Fenghuang. Or Benu (Bennu) the Egyptian equivalent of phoenix (and possibly true origin of the more widely known phoenix). I'm leaning towards Hayai, Yuki, Meiyo, or Kiroh as the official name for my chocobo. I think Kiroh may win as K'iroh sounds apt for a miqo'te name, but I really like Meiyo and Hayai as well. Damn you, decisions!!! I like Quigley! -
Hmm. I like her story background, very neat! I've started working on developing a Free Company listed in the Gilgamesh directory under Wardens of Light. Right now the FC itself is made up of some RL friends of mine who aren't RPers, but I've got a separate IC Linkshell set up to dedicate solely to that. General idea is a group of adventurers that act kind of like the Scions, but on a less grandiose scale. While the Scions are known to the Grand Companies and active in big threats (like primals), the Wardens are a group inspired by the tales of the Warriors of Light to take it upon themselves to travel through foreign lands and root out threats to Eorzea. Long term, I'd love to see it develop not just as a group of adventurers, but merchants and crafters who support the adventurers' work and offer a network of information as well. A bit of Dragon Age influence as well with the Gray Wardens idea of the group recruiting anyone they see with potential, so there's a possibility they'd see motivation to help Ehki get out of her more restrictive situation. Dunno if you'd be interested in that sort of group, and it's just myself and one other in the IC linkshell at the moment (I just got the FC set up and will be more active in sniffing out potential members). Of course, being a bit of a secretive group that doesn't hold to beliefs of restrictive participation, you're welcome to develop her interaction with the group and be in the Linkshell without joining the FC if you find another too. Feel free to look for me (Swift Nightclaw in the game too) anytime!

A Take On: Martial Art's and the World of Final Fantasy.
Swift Nightclaw replied to IncubusManatee's topic in RP Discussion
I was looking at the character combat styles thread and it made me think to hop back here and look at the posts again. I was wanting to see if there was more that might suggest an influence on the monk stances from the animations to maybe get an idea what we'd consider an influence on Ala Mhigan martial arts. The mention of krav maga made me have a bit of a realization. I often see martial artists argue the superiority of krav maga (well, name any martial art and you'll see those arguing it's superior, but I see krav maga mentioned a lot). But in Eorzea....krav maga itself seems near useless. Looking at the video our manatee friend linked, think of that a moment. Now take out the opponent and put an angry hippopotomus in its place. What is krav maga going to offer you against an angry hippopotomus? Or once you've brought down a humanoid opponent, how useful is krav maga if they have a sword in hand? In the real world, I see most debates tend to favor grappling style fighting as the deal breaker. But bear in mind, we are in Eorzea where "real world" fighting is going to be dealing with swords, spears, shields, and creatures that are even larger and more dangerous than an angry hippopotamus. So what, based on animations the pugilist uses, might be a good martial arts basis that involves a lot of fluid movements, quick foot work, and fast strikes? -

I think everyone who ever saw that comic remembers it when "chocobo breeding" is mentioned. -
Your stout and loveable chocobo (or other mount)
Swift Nightclaw replied to Swift Nightclaw's topic in RP Discussion
I would expect green, blue, red, white, and black to be likely colors when they introduce breeding. I considered Anzu, but saving that for the possibility of a black chocobo. Had another name considered, but saving that for a white chocobo in the future! Just can't decide on a good name for my trusty yellow Chocobo. -
:chocobo: :chocobo: :chocobo: So what did folks name their chocbo? If there's anything pertinent to the name, such as being a miqo'te, or from Limsa Lominsa, include that or anything that helped you think of your chocobo's name! I'm still thinking of what to name mine. As a temporary name, I chose "Scout." No real reason other than A) I couldn't think of a name I really wanted and B) Scout was Tanto's horse. I was also wondering, does the dialogue when you get your chocobo change randomly or do you always get "he" in the dialogue? :chocobo: :chocobo: :chocobo:

Sounds great! I'll add you and keep an eye out to chat soon!

Welcome to Gilgamesh! From my understanding, you can post in the linkshell threads and express interest and someone will get in touch with you in game, or just check out the events calendar and go hang around the RP events and get sociable. Feel free to add me and poke me in game. Swift Nightclaw is the character name as well. :3 And to paraphrase a quote, "unlike other miqo'te, I can speak with a Texas accent." DFW player right here, but I have friends in Austin! 8-)

Eorzean Words and English Counterparts

There have been times where I've not been entirely sure if it's Eorzean dialogue or just an oversight in translation leading to Engrish. All your base are belong to us! Must needs your base! -
Eorzean Words and English Counterparts
Swift Nightclaw replied to BlessedSilence's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Is Anyroad used in Limsa and Gridania? I've only noticed it mainly in Ul'dah. Wondered if that's a local phrase or Eorzean. -
Now we play the waiting game........... Waiting game sucks, let's play hungry hungry hippos!

It's been two days since I first noticed it and almost two days since I first reported it, not less than 24 hours as you claim. Just saying! In any case, people are just worried because this is an issue that primarily affects role-players it would seem. Given that we're not exactly the most numerous bunch, it makes sense for us all to go and report our experiences so that SE is aware of the severity of the issue. This is doubly true considering they may have a different filtering system on the JP servers entirely and, as such, most of the developers will not even be at risk of encountering this problem themselves when playing the game. Says 9/16/13 on the forum tags, but that might be in Japan which would be 9/15 in US then, so that would explain the confusion. Still, 48 hours isn't exactly a long time for an MMO when you have literally hundreds if not thousands of issues to juggle and potentially thousands of lines of code to dig through and debug just to figure out what's causing an apparent intermittent and completely random issue. The call to arms, demanding they respond, questioning why they haven't commented just seemed a bit much. I totally understand reporting and adding to the report with additional information from other players. Also, your phrase also did not work in Linkshell for me either. Perhaps love is a four letter word. X3 Also, your report has more replies and more views than any others I see on the front page of the accepted bugs!

Looking at the post on the forums, it looks like it hasn't even been 24 hours. Calm down... If there are tickets being generated and it's being reported, you can be sure they're being made aware of it and have to determine what's happening to cause it. Coding can be tricky and they may have to do some digging to understand why love vs heart is causing a change in the program/filter/whatever's causing it, as well as all the other examples of it happening. The long post starting with "I love you, pumpkin" reportedly was dropped. Another confirmed "I'm back" was dropped. There's obviously a lot of variation here for them to pinpoint the root cause of it all.

This is, quite honestly, brilliant! I love it! Thanks! My friend had a mithra named Swift in FF XI but I picked up the name from a character we're creating for a comic series we've been discussing. He's making his miqo'te with "Swift" as the last name. We're debating getting more complicated in my miqo'te (male) and his (female) being siblings with the son/father names being variations of one another (K'Swihft and K'Swhift). Siblings with opposite paths in life and intense sibling rivalry with her being a paladin and him, eventually, being a ninja. Ironically, he likes thinking of a bit of personality and background to his characters, but doesn't RP. Hehe

These sort of threads make me a little jealous of Balmung, but Gilgamesh is still growing, so it's all good.

This is my miqo'te, a traditionally tribal raised child. What's that? His name isn't traditionally appropriate? Pfft, that's because most of you can't even pronounce our names right. This is close enough for you. I consider his real name to be K'Swhift Tia, but after leaving his tribe some of the, um, work he's done he picked up being called Nightclaw and took it as a name. As for his first name? Swift is essentially how it's going to sound when pronounced by non-miqo'te. Also, I would note for folks debating this: "In colloquial speech amongst close friends and companions, sometimes the tribe letter will be dropped from the first name." http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/61150-Miqo-te-Naming-Conventions
