Japan's pre-orders get you a figure of the cover Legendary from whichever game you get. However, if you pre-order both games at the same time you also get a 'soundtrack' (it only has 3 tracks) and an art book with exclusive art. That said, for some reason Japanese people don't seem to care that much for their pre-order bonuses or maybe the market just gets flooded because every time I go to Sofmap I always see people trading in used games with all the pre-order and special-edition bonuses untouched. I bought a used copy of Tales of Xillia the other day and the previous owner hadn't even bothered to use the exclusive pre-order bonus item download codes. That said I don't have a 3DS so my investment in XY will be to rent the anime DVDs from the local Tsutaya once I finish with Best Wishes.

Hmm... Penguindrum... I always feel like when I don't like an artsy anime or movie it's because I'm just too stupid and uncultured to 'get it' but honestly I just think Penguindrum went way too far out of its way to make the plot obscure and hard to follow. By the end I still didn't know what the heck I had just watched or why anything any of the characters did mattered. I went to talk to the guy who 'recommended' it to me about his take on it and he replied: 'I never recommended that show to you. I just said it had good theme and ending songs'. I had one or two of my other anime buddies check it out and it left all of us scratching our heads. I mean, I'm no neanderthal... I love stuff like 5cm/s or my abovementioned Wolf Children movie, and even super-artsy stuff like Revolutionary Girl Utena is fine as long as I know what the stakes are and why people are doing stuff but... I guess what I'm saying is Penguindrum might not be a great recommendation for people unless you like the concept of not being able to understand what you are watching in the least. If you do, it is for you. Edit: I feel bad about raining on someone else's recommendation without putting one of my own up for scrutiny so in the same vein of really insane anime that will make you mouth the word 'what?' silently to yourself over and over I submit to you Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita (Humanity has Declined). A story about a world where humanity has... well... declined. They're almost gone. In their place is the new ruler of the world: little fairy folks! The fairies are apparently all-powerful, with the ability to bend reality to their choosing... too bad they're too lazy and airheaded to do anything but make life crazy for everyone. Our main character is a mediator between the remaining humans and the fairies, though she seems just as confused by their actions as everyone else. Here's the opening and a few scenes that sets the tone for the series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqDdy-Lxiek (note: contains a loaf of bread committing graphic suicide)

I watched Wolf Children Rain and Snow (Snow and Rain?) last night. It made me feel all the feels. All the feels forever. I had to watch a few episodes of The Wire just to calm myself down emotionally enough that I could sleep afterwards. It's just... powerful. And beautiful. I mean it's not for everyone... there's no action and it's mostly just about a single mother trying to raise two kids (that happen to be werewolves) but if you can stomach slice-of-life family dramas then this is the best of them. Bar none, hands down this movie will make you feel more feels than any anime ever has before.

I'm always looking for RP on Gilgamesh, though my hours are a bit crazy due to living across the ocean. If you're up for late-night RP though, add Tatarin Totorin to your friends!
-
Are you folks still recruiting? I'm hoping to find a place to belong with maybe some people who stay up really late at night... playing on a US server from Japan makes it a bit hard to match up with people's schedules and make it to events and stuff. Anyway if you've room in your hearts please look up Tatarin Totorin!
-
Heylo! I'm actually aiming to be a scholar too! Our characters should be, like, study-buddies or something! I'm going for a kind of pure-hearted healer type as well, and he's a little off-put by how much massacre his Arcanist studies are putting him up to. If you're ever up late or around on weekends stop on by the Adventurer's Guild in Limsa Lominsa and you'll probably see Tatarin Totorin there. Come by and say hi!
-
Hey fellow Gilgamesher! Welcome welcome! Unfortunately I can't offer you an in to any FC as I'm currently also homeless... but if you're ever up late and want to hang out swing on by Limsa Lominsa's adventurer's guild and you'll usually find Tatarin Totorin hanging around. Stop on by and chat sometime!
-
Yeah I always hang out in Limsa Lominsa's adventurer's guild and in only two or three days I've seen a lot of RP going on there. If anyone's around late at night or early in the morning please look for me! I usually sit at one of the tables so feel free to pull up a chair and chat.
-
I'd really love to join up with this once you get it going! My character Tatarin Totorin is definitely the kind who would get starry-eyed at the chance to become a member of a group dedicated to helping and protecting others, being the pure-hearted healer type that he is. ICly (and stat-wise) he's still just starting out as an adventurer, but I'd love to RP getting picked as a recruit and whatnot and have him take his first steps into hero-hood under the guidance of the Wardens. Unfortunately my hours are a little odd since I live in Japan, but I'm usually around most of the time on weekends and if anyone's up late at night or early in the morning I'll be around to chat with. I know the LS hasn't been created yet, but next time you're on shoot Tatarin Totorin a friend request! I look forward to this becoming a reality!
-
This sounds amazing and right up my character's alley. Make sure to invite Tatarin Totorin once you've got it going!

I. Basic Info Characters:Tatarin Totorin Primary character:Tatarin Totorin Linkshells:None Yet Primary RP linkshell:Ditto II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I have no specific preference, so I'll usually go along with what everyone else wants. I was raised on forum and MU* RPs, though, so I'm more at home with the wordy stuff. Views on RP combat and injuries: I say let the in-game system take care of combat and healing and stuff unless someone wants to have a dramatic injury or illness. As for combat, my character's a healer so I doubt he'd get caught up in PvP. Views on IC romance: I'm definitely not opposed to it. My character is a bit innocent, though, and he takes romance very seriously. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Hey, Lalafell are very family-minded. I'd love to get involved in some family ties or a big family RP, even if it means wiping 'Tarin's slate clean and starting over with a new story for him. Views on lore: I'll do my best, but I'm pretty new here. Mostly I'll just stick with stuff my character has definitely seen in game, that way I know I'm not straying from canon. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): They're quite useful in many situations. III. Other Info Country:USA originally, currently living in Japan for work Timezone:JST, I'll mostly be reachable on weekends for folks on the other side of the pond Contact info:Skype is anjinforever or I answer to Tells in game or PMs here.

Regarding inability to purchase digital copies of the game...
Getsuya replied to Leencat's topic in FFXIV Discussion
http://www.siliconera.com/2013/09/16/digital-copies-of-final-fantasy-xiv-a-realm-reborn-collectors-edition-available-again/ Digital Sales seem to have resumed. There's no postings from an official Squeenix source that I can find, but apparently you can download it again so... huzzah! ... now I really wish I hadn't bothered with the physical copy with the jacked-up price I wasted my money on and still haven't received yet. EDIT: Actually even the official Squeenix online store is selling digital download copies now so I guess that's all the official word we need. Digital sales have officially resumed. -
Yay another new Gilgamesh-er! Your RP background sounds a lot like mine, I was really into MU*s back in the day too and recently it's been mostly forum stuff. This'll be my first time getting into serious RP in a MMO setting. If you're ever on late nights or weekends hopefully we'll meet up (assuming the crazy Japanese online sellers I bought my copy from eventually get around to, you know, sending me what I already paid for...)
-
Currently Balmung has more, but that's because it is a mixture of old characters and new characters whereas Gilgamesh has only new characters created since the ARR launch. I chose Gilgamesh because I myself am super new to all of this and I wanted to be with lots of other people who were new without having to worry about people having years of story already built up around their characters. But yeah it's totally personal preference so do what feels right.

Just on the Lalafell point, if we add together the two bits of lore: A. Families are important to Lalafell and B. Cross-racial children are a rarity wouldn't we come to the conclusion that Lalafell themselves might avoid cross-racial relationships as they know such things don't usually end in big families or even any children at all usually? My character's fairly orthodox so I could see him saying, of a female of another race: "Well yes I really like her but it's not like I want to marry her... I was hoping to have a nice big family and, well, you know how those kinds of things go. I think we'll just be really good friends until the end of time." Of course not every single Lalafell has to follow the general stereotyping of the race, so I'd say pretty much everyone should decide for themselves what they think feels right. That's the way real life is anyway.

Well hello fellow new-person! I also am a huge Japanese game lover. I'm always trying to get my hands on Japanese RPGs that never got translated or released in the US, especially from the PSone/PS2 eras. If we end up on the same server, I look forward to RPing with you (though with the time zone difference that may be difficult, depending), and if we don't then perhaps our characters will meet someday in the forum RP threads here or somesuch! Here's to enjoyable RPs ahead!

100 Questions to Ask About Your Role-Playing Character
Getsuya replied to Vash's topic in Character Workshop
Wow... that was... daunting. So many questions about so many details. It really did help me figure out how I wanted to play him though. ... though I didn't realize going into it just how much of a Goody Two-Shoes McNice my guy was going to be. But to be honest I think guys like this are becoming scarce lately anyway so why not have someone who just wants peace and friendship all the time every once in a while. For added amusement: take a drink everytime he mentions his brothers. -
Welcome my fellow Gilgamesh newbie! Let's be new together!... whenever my copy ends up showing up in the mail... If you're ever up at insane hours of the night and morning I'd love to hang out! Or, failing that, I'll be on during more reasonable hours on weekends probably. Timezones, blargh. Aaaanyway if you ever need a healer or a newbie RP partner I'm your 'fell.

I'd love to join the chat too! Skype: anjinforever

I'm a little daunted looking at everyone else's entries since I think the kind of stuff I listen to is waaaaaaay out of most everyone's genre (that's not being hipster, that's me admitting to having strange taste). Anyway I think if this were like a old Final Fantasy and I needed a theme whenever the scene was focused on 'Tarin, I'd probably have them play this:
-
Hey folks! Just ordered my copy for PS3 today, it's in the mail. I won't bore you to tears with the tale of how difficult it was to find a solid copy of the game in Japan since everyone over here is going nutso getting their hands on every box on the island, but needless to say I was happy to shell out an extra $20 for one of the last copies I could find online before the prices get gouged even higher. ... now the real irony will be if they re-open digital downloads before I get my physical copy. I may weep. *ahem* The name is Getsuya! Though the name I have planned for the my main, that handsome young fellah in my avatar, is Tatarin Totorin. He will be my main on Gilgamesh once I finally get my hands on the game. I intend for him to be an Arcanist-Scholar though with a lot of focus on crafting as well (not sure what I want him to craft yet but I have a few days to decide). Since I live in Japan my hours are kind of strange, so I'm hoping to find some English-speaking players who like to burn the midnight oil. I'm very interested in organized groups such as families or guilds and the kind of dynamic that brings to RPing, so I'd love discussing such things before I create a character with anyone so inclined. I also believe I will take my RPing beyond the game itself in the form of journals and in-character discussions in forums and such. I hope to make some wonderful friends here! Even if you can't get on at the same time as me due to the huge time difference I'd still love to chat with everyone here on the forums. Please take good care of me!
