If you require mats, toss me a PM with a list. I have....collections of stuff from potash and the like to wootz ore and arachne web. I would much rather contribute to a cause than market board them for gil. On my Balmung characters, just to clarify as I realized after posting that I am a friggin' timelord, hopping from server to server willy-nilly. >.>

Hello! Welcome to 14 and to Gilgamesh for now. If you'd like to post your backstory, you can do so in the Gilgamesh or Balmung Directory section and if you click on that link up top that says "Wiki", you'll be taken to the character wiki database area where tutorials abound on how to create one of your very own! Hope that helps!

A Brief PSA on the issue of clogged worlds.
No Longer Exists replied to No Longer Exists's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Ladies and Gentlespoons, as the OP, I would appreciate it if the conversation dulled back down to a civil roar. Naunet is correct, it's inappropriate to tell people on the community forum to curb their feelings because it does no good. Talking it out always helps. So please, watch the tone. I've noticed a few "I'm tired of reading this" style replies, folks turning away from being kind in an effort to be direct and I honestly think all that's been said is all there is to be said on the subject. If the outraged want to let out their frustrations, I'm cool with it. No one is being forced to read this thread, after all. Cheers. -

A Brief PSA on the issue of clogged worlds.
No Longer Exists replied to No Longer Exists's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I genuinely disagree, Ilwe'ran, with the notion that we cannot do anything about it. We're not responsible, yes, you're absolutely correct. However, my PSA wasn't meant as a manifesto of expectations, but more of a heads up and a shout out to this very large community on the issue that we now see is affecting our own. You're correct in that it moves the queue along, which was the original point. Keep the queue moving. In the end, it doesn't matter what Blue or I believe or have to say on the subject one way or another. What matters is that we try, as a community, to do our part. Ultimately, it's all personal choice though and I certainly won't shed tears on the side of the information super-highway while everyone else whips by me. I only attempt to educate. P.S. - the information super-highway comment was attempted simile with those old "save the earth" commercials where the native american picks up trash and sheds a tear. >.> Cheers! -

I agree, Kellach. I am looking into something that may not fix the game itself (for I do not work for SE) but might not deterr players at least. -
A Brief PSA on the issue of clogged worlds.

Again, with all due respect, statements of "It has nothing to do with who is already logged onto the game" are simply not true. Each server is in essence, a city worth of traffic and everyone already in the city contributes to its congestion. A previous reply posted the official statements and if one reads those statements about the lock outs and restrictions, it is directly because of the congestion on specific worlds, not simply the lobby itself. I do not point this out to make anyone feel bad, I point it out because I do not want new players and new arrivals to the RPC to believe misinformation. Concurrent Connections (I apologize for the font mess, doing this on my ipad apparently made it go "BLEARGH") On the night following the announcement of our plans to temporarily limit sales of the download version, A Realm Reborn recorded upwards of 218,000 concurrent connections. This is in spite of the fact that the peak login times for separate regions around the world arrive at differing intervals. We estimate that without time zone differences, the total number of concurrent connections would number anywhere from 300,000 to 350,000. As many of you know, this is the second launch for FINAL FANTASY XIV─something unprecedented in the MMORPG market. Considering the outcome of our first launch, our sales estimates for this one were decidedly conservative, as we believed that there would be a more gradual rise in users over the opening weeks and months. Instead, to our pleasant surprise, we experienced tremendous support from a great number of players who were eager to get into the game from day one. To ensure that these players, once logged in, were able to play in a stable environment, we were required to implement login restrictions which kept server population near maximum capacity without exceeding those numbers. The fact that we had to implement these restrictions is a direct result of my inaccurate sales and login estimates, and as producer, I must accept complete responsibility for this misstep. Each and every player who has been affected has my deepest apologies. What the above is saying is not "People logging in are causing the lockout", though it can be seen that way. What it is saying is that the tremendous amount of processing required to stabilize the world for both those logged in and those logging in was reaching critical mass. This is why there are multiple gateways. The login screen and the start menu lobby. Obviously, the login lockout was lifted as its never difficult to get on the game itself anymore. The Reasoning behind Login Restrictions Each FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn World server has been designed to support a maximum of 5,000 concurrent connections. This is not the maximum number of characters which can be created on a World, however, but the maximum number of characters which can be logged into that World simultaneously. When more than 5,000 characters log into a World at once, there is a higher risk of server crashes and login errors. The restoration of crashed servers is usually followed by a rush of players attempting to log back in, which, in turn, puts a strain on our lobby server, and can ultimately have an adverse affect on all of the Worlds. To prevent this from happening, we felt that the safest course of action would be to limit logins. However, we would like you to know that the restrictions are under constant surveillance. We are currently monitoring login numbers on all Worlds 24 hours a day, and actively removing/applying restrictions as soon as we detect even the smallest fluctuation in concurrent connection numbers. Currently, peak login times for each region are occurring from approximately 9:00 p.m. to midnight. During this three-hour window, Worlds are more likely to have login restrictions implemented. These temporary restrictions are expected to continue until the time that we can execute the measures we have planned to alleviate the current situation. Those measures, including the addition of new World servers, are listed, in detail, below. Now, this right here explains a bit more about how the original login restriction was handled and why. It specifically states that this is not about character creation, but about the flow of information as thousands of people attempt to log in. This section explains why we have the log in queue, which is to ensure the stability of the already overclocked server against crashing from further overflow of log ins. Character Creation Restrictions As stated above, the maximum number of simultaneous connections each World server can handle is 5,000, while the number of characters which can be created on a World is several times that amount. This estimate of 5,000, however, is based on those characters being somewhat distributed over all the in-game areas (zones). At the game’s start, however, while everyone is still at a low level, the majority of players are concentrated in the three city-states and surrounding areas. This can not only lead to a lack of enemies to slay (preventing quest progression), but also see area servers overloaded, and ultimately lead to crashes. Fortunately, differences in total individual play time, login times, and character/class progression will eventually lead to players being more spread out within each World. Once this happens, there will be less need for both login and character creation restrictions. As is the case with logins, our team is working around the clock, monitoring the current population of each area in each World, as well as the class level of each character, and adjusting new character creation restrictions based on their findings. Unlike login restrictions, we believe that character creation restrictions may take slightly longer to be removed, as there are still great discrepancies in the distribution of characters across Worlds, and we thank players for their patience and understanding in this issue. Finally, I have underlined two important sections of the character creation restriction so that there are no further misunderstandings. First, the explanation of their projected flow of information on the server. What this means is that the devs were already paying attention to IN GAME congestion. Not log in congestion, as some seem to constantly suggest. The second underlined section explains that overload due to in game congestion can and will cause servers to crash. Their concern for the overload of each city state and surrounding starter area is in direct correlation to the character creation restriction during peak hours of use. The already heavy stream of information from congestion cannot hold any more information safely so no new characters can be made at these times. Now, "at these times" has become "all the time", and it is in direct correlation to the constant congestion on both Balmung and Gilgamesh. The worlds are reaching capacity and as I originally explained in the beginning, they are reaching capacity not just because of the new user logins, but because of the practically 24 hour high volume stream of information processing through them. Even if your character is not doing anything, they are still streaming data and taking up space figuratively and literally. Thank You. (I apologize for the font info, the copy pasta done via my iPad apparently didn't agree with the site. >.<) -

Thank you, Ilwe'ran. That sums it up nicely. -
Absolutely! I'll keep an eye out for you guys, but if I'm derping then you can find me on Leonhart Monteblanc in about....4 hours, if not sooner.

A friend and I recently started up an RP FC, so we're also interested in getting involved more. I should really update my profile stuff. >.< I think I spend too much time hiding under my hat. Regardless, we would definitely be into getting together for RP!

A Brief PSA on the issue of clogged worlds.
No Longer Exists replied to No Longer Exists's topic in FFXIV Discussion
That's exactly where the issue lies and it's rather arbitrary. The dev teams are constantly doing brief maintenances to keep from the world overloading and crapping out, which is why I'm baffled that they removed the inactivity boot. "All World's Maintenance" every seven days just to keep the proverbial hamsters on their wheels, but they don't lighten the load the poor hamsters are hauling. It's very strange. I too haven't had much issue with world cap queues, but if you hearken back to when Yoshida first answered this question; he did make a statement that the character creation restriction was to pre-empt the congestion and overload issue. So look at it this way, your maximum occupancy is 200 (theoretically) and 250 people are trying to log on. So you put an auto-restrict on new occupants at say 150. Now think about how 50 of those occupants are actually afk and not actively playing the game. Hence, constant creation restriction. -
*Rises up from beneath the hat on the floor* Nine out of Ten gamers appear to not realize that the lack of an automatic logout implemented by SE is the cause of the server congestion and character creation restriction. The reason both Balmung and "Greg" (<---- I love this nickname) have brief windows for new character registration is not because of the amount of characters being registered, but because of the congestion on the world at these intervals. Layman's terms: TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE LOGGED IN. No, I am not yelling at you, dear reader. I would like everyone here to consider this though, as I am fairly certain a lot of us users do it (myself included until now); when you don't log off the game when you're finished playing for the day, you are depriving a newbie a chance to get in the world. We've all done it, set a massive craft spam of mats and just walked away from the computer. Three hours later, he or she's probably crying about their bruised knee from being in that position for so long but! What we may not realize is that we're also wasting server populace space. Botters (Yes, you) are wasting server space. Going afk for hours is wasting server space. Going to sleep for 6-11 hours with your character logged in, pink and red chair floating over their head....is wasting server space. I have no idea if the devs will return the auto-logout feature to the game, but until they do; at the very least, our community can be consciously aware of this very serious issue now for potential players, potential friends, potential positive additions to our lovely community. Three people logging off may not make a difference, but it might. Sixty people logging off probably will. I realize that both worlds share the lands with PvEers and whatnot who will not read this forum post, though I am considering putting it on the official forum as well....just to see what happens. Isn't it worth a shot? Be alert: the world needs more lerts. Or just....log out and shut down when you're done playing, give someone a chance to get on. Cheers!

Balmung VS Gilgamesh? Decisions, decisions...
No Longer Exists replied to Fotix's topic in FFXIV Discussion
*Peeks out from under his hat* Your knowledge of the lore (be it 1.0 or 2.0 lore) will have very little impact on your involvement in RP so long as you keep an open, friendly, and communicative mind. It's not so much about what you know as how you socialize, we're all quite friendly. *Pulls the hat back down* -
Balmung VS Gilgamesh? Decisions, decisions...
No Longer Exists replied to Fotix's topic in FFXIV Discussion
*Covets that magicAdminHat, for it is far shinier than his old black one* Freelance is quite correct. From what I've witnessed here on the RPC and in conversation with Gilgamesh RPers, there is no animosity involved anymore. There had been a brief history of poo-flinging, but most have forgotten all about it. What it boils down to is, like so many other things, preference becoming the norm. Gilgameshians decided to coordinate amongst themselves rather than use the RPC for more than the wiki and an occasional recruitment drive for FCs. Some decided on a dedicated forum for Gilgamesh itself and it has now become the main forum much like the RPC has for Balmung and other servers. What you find on the RPC with such lovely folk like Miss Lalah, The Bridgeguard Roe, and Myself is an inkling of the friendliness and openness. Some folks see the "segregation" of Gilgamesh as snobbish and I'd really like to make certain that it's clear this is not the case. As Miss Lalah mentioned, it really depends upon your preference in RP. There can be arguments made for and against the concept of "RP Neighborhoods" and a distinct lack of Open World RP, as there have been time and time again. I have made some of them myself, frankly, and even expressed my disdain for the gilgamesh-centric forum because of my own personal preferences and yet I point new RPers to it when I come across them. A community is only as good as its people and its people are only as good as the community they associate with. I hope this helps clear up the mystery, because silence only leads to rumors and conjecture and since many Gilgameshian's have stepped away from the RPC, there's less likelihood of a response to these questions unless one of us hanger-ons takes note of it. Cheers! -

Incorrect. Gilgamesh RPers do not generally RP in the open, preferring their neighborhoods in the private housing areas. There have been a few, brief, open RP moments but they last no longer than thirty minutes and seem to happen in passing. -
Balmung VS Gilgamesh? Decisions, decisions...

*Appears from under a hat on the floor like something from a Miyazaki film* The ever present quandary of Gilgamesh and Balmung.... Truth be told, Balmung's roleplaying community is large and in charge, though it still shares its server with PvEers. From personal experience, one can find and link into RP on Balmung -very- easily. However, Balmung is constantly filled to the gills so finding an opportunity to get a character registered to that world is a chore unless you like being up at 5am EST. That's the window I found and it's very brief. Gilgamesh has a decent community, albeit insular and (I mean no disrespect) pointless. Many of the "open" events are simply bar crawls which may be just what you're looking for as a casual player. The community on Gilgamesh IS friendly and can be very welcoming, but it lacks a great deal of depth for a lot of more intense roleplayers. Gilgamesh rarely caps though, so it is far easier to get on that world than Balmung. Summary? There isn't one. Neither World is superior to the other, they each offer something the other doesn't. Cheers! *Twirls around and disappears back under the hat* (Posted here as well as it's original place in another thread asking the same question) -
