1. Hello again, RPC. After a long absence from the game, I've returned and have been exploring the RP community on Balmung once again. More than anything I've noticed excitement for the Heavensward expansion, with many ideas flying about regarding the opening of Ishgard, focus on the Dragoon job, and everything else dragon related and awesome. Oh, and Machinists! I can't help but fall victim to it myself, since Ishgard was the city that interested me most pre-launch over a year ago, and I was very disappointed to learn that not only was Ishgard going to be off limits, but also an elezen populated state. I had my hopes up for highlanders. Now, some players may remember my project to revitalize RP in Limsa Lominsa and my starting of the Limsa Lominsan character directory. The former was fairly successful before I left the game, but I can't speak for how well it lasted after I left. However the latter remains a heavily trafficked thread. Now, I plan to start a new project not unlike my attempt to bring RP to the city by the sea. Except this time, it's one Free Company and it's focused on Ishgard. I'll keep things simple for now, as this is very preliminary and the purpose of this post is simply to alert other Ishgard enthusiasts and hopefully make some new RP friends. The FC's premise is House Haillenarte - yes, the canon House Haillenarte. It's obviously a noble house FC, but I'm going to take an unusual approach this time in that the FC members are not going to be the nobility of Haillenarte. Instead I want to focus on the supporting structure of a major noble name, or more specifically the vassal nobility, ministers, craftsmen, wards, soldiers and anyone else that makes up the super structure of any noble house. My rough plan for now will be to expand and grow the meta-FC to level 8, create an enjin site for the FC, and develop the FC's documentation (lore, ranks, guidelines, etc.) Meanwhile I would like to work with any players or FCs that are interested in being involved, and even welcome feedback from players that don't wish to be involved but have constructive opinions. The goal will be to have House Haillenarte FC fully developed and ready for recruitment by the launch of Heavensward - but that's not to say I would be unwilling to recruit any enterprising individuals now, if they would like to help with the development. Much like I did with the Lominsan project, I'll structure and outline my goals and phases as I proceed to keep all RPers abreast. I do hope this generates interest and this new FC can contribute to the already great atmosphere of Balmung.
2. Lately I've gotten the itch to assemble a Free Company for myself and a few of the players I know, most likely because I'm a masochist who refuses to learn the lesson that FCs are a ton of work. However, the idea monster thrashes, so I do. My idea is slightly different than some of the others FCs I've seen about the game and LinkShell Hall - the Ishgardian House Haillenarte. Yes, it's a major political body in Ishgard, and yes, it's established in canon. In fact, those are two of the main reasons I selected it. Rather than create a non-canon entity that interacts with canon, I thought it might be fun for canon to drive some story arcs this time around. The other angle I intend to take is to not focus on the Haillenarte nobles themselves. The nobility is the smallest portion of any noble house, but the vast majority is made up of vassal houses, retainers, wards, soldiers, guardsman, and mercenaries, advisers, ministers, and craftsmen. These are the people the FC will focus on, and these are the roles the PCs will play, with the Haillenartes themselves being left to NPC-dom and their canon devices explored within the game's story. Chances are the development of this FC will take me some time, and I don't intend to open it to recruitment and such until the release of Heavensward. However, I would like to hear the community's thoughts and opinions, advice and references to any Ishgard and House Haillenarte lore. I've done my own research, but I may have missed something. So, please, comment as you like, and link what you want. I will greatly appreciate all feedback.
3. I agree that you're not alone, Steel. However, something you need to consider is that this is an MMORPG and it was arguably not designed for RP and canon adherence. So, you need to take the game for what it is and decide where your own personal boundaries lay within it. Is Behemoth an unacceptable mount? Is the Behemoth Barding even acceptable? Unfortunately you're going to have to make your own decision, based on your own RP integrity counterbalanced by your need to be unique. It's the same decision we all make, and the players we usually roll our eyes at are those that vote unique every time, because that's how we get Mary-Sues and snowflakes. My advice to you is to regard it as any story decision. In the literary world it's a fact that every story has been told and will be told again, so a writer's merit no longer hinges on the originality of the context, but the execution of the method. I play a Nunh, which has already been done a million times over since the game launched, but I like to think that I play the kind of Nunh that doesn't make people roll their eyes at my "sex machine cat." If you can manage to present a Sleipnir or Fat Chocobo mount in a way that's interesting, and keeps your audience reading more, and prevents them from impatiently sighing at your own self indulgence, I say go for it. It might even be fun.
4. Admins, please delete.
5. Folks, Hello. Some of you know me as the player of the character Sion Gyr, and I have just spent approximately 2 hours conversing with 3 different agents at SE Customer Support. The first was via live chat, with a singularly confrontational agent using the handle Joel V. As I explained my issue to Mr. V he constantly contradicted everything I said, rather than address my problems and questions. Said problems will not be discussed here since that's not the goal of this post. I asked Mr. V to transfer me to another agent when it became clear that he wasn't going to help me, and he blatantly refused and disconnected me from live chat. After I manually restarted live chat, I received a new agent by the handle of Melinda S. Ms. S was more amiable than her argumentative counterpart, but repeated the same solution over and over again, no matter how I elaborated on my problem and explained how she wasn't suggesting a solution at all. It was "Keep trying" by the way. When I finally explained to her that I didn't believe she understood what I was trying to communicate, she abruptly severed contact. Next I called SE's telephone support, and received a polite agent using the name of Napoleon. Napoleon sympathized with my problem, and proved that he understood my frustration and even went so far as to reveal that the Live Chat and telephone hotlines were the same department. I thought this was an excellent opportunity to speak with a supervisor about the quality of service I had received, but a few minutes later Napoleon informed me that his supervisor refused to accept my call. Truthfully, I shouldn't be surprised. Many of us have been unfortunate to discover that SE's customer support is impressively terrible. So, I engaged a search for someone or somewhere that I could go above Customer Support's head and found absolutely nothing. Has anyone ever found any success where I've failed? If so, please let me know. If not, take this as a warning from yet another dissatisfied SE user - their customer service is worse than Dell's, and that's saying something.
6. Project Update Complete I've executed all the non-optional phases and have received zero replies for the first optional phase. Therefore I feel my work is done. But yours isn't. Remember that the Limsa Lominsa Character Directory and the Lominsan Society LS are permanent fixtures meant to facilitate RP for all Limsa Lominsa characters. I encourage everyone who plays a character related to Limsa Lominsa to post on the directory and seek out a LS. Other than that, I would like to thank everyone for their support. I've noticed an increase in Limsa Lominsa RP already and it's all of you that made it possible.
7. This April Fool's Day joke implies that SE is capable of creating a character any person could actually enjoy. ...ha.
8. This sounds different. I'll admit, when I first read this, I thought, "This sounds like an anime." And as one of the few players here that doesn't consider that a good thing, I was discouraged. But after some thought it also struck me as innovative, and you're certainly enthusiastic about it, Maia. As a fellow player recently engaged in a large RP project, I think I would like to lend you my support. So please consider me an interested party. For now I'll follow this thread and see what you have to say, but should you wish to discuss anything, please feel free to contact me.
9. I'm just bumping this. Thus far I've received all of zero PMs regarding this topic, and that's perfectly fine. I marked Phase 5 as optional because I expected that. However, I just want to be sure that there's no interest in it. So... Bump.
10. Maelstrom all the way! Most players completely disregard which Grand Company you're actually affiliated with as long as your RP stays consistent. That is to say, don't play a Flame Sergeant one day and a Viper Lieutenant the next. Aside from that, if you care at all about how armor and attire looks, stick with the Maelstrom. Currently they are the best dressed Grand Company. You may also want to look into X:I7. It's more of a secret society with militant undertones, and so is the Night Blades. Charlotte Mariani also just started a very small FC for the Ul'dahn Brass Blades, who are more of Ul'dah's official military and police, in comparison to the Immortal Flame.
11. Project Update Phase 1 - The Limsa Lominsa Presence Complete I have effectively moved my own RP focus to Limsa Lominsa, complete with full justification of why Gyr would now live and work in La Noscea. Since doing so I have noticed an increase of characters RPing in Limsa Lominsa, and I'm glad. Whether it was this project, or already present RP that I hadn't noticed, it's good to see Limsa finally getting some of the love it deserves. Phase 2 - The Limsa Lominsa RP LS In Progress The Lominsan Society linkshell is going very strong, with now over 50 members. I'll continue to watch for people who would like to be included, and I encourage every single member of this LS to generate RP as they see fit. Keep in mind that there's no IC leader and that every member is equally responsible for making sure this doesn't stagnate. It's an LS encompassing all of Limsa Lominsa's citizenry, and meant to facilitate relations between everyone. So have some fun with it. Phase 3 - The Limsa Lominsa Directory In Progress So far the Limsa Lominsa Character Directory could see a better turn out. I know that it may seem discouraging to be asked to post something that isn't born of your own motivation, but this project will only succeed if players make that special effort to flex beyond themselves. I intentionally made the directory template simple and brief, so no one should feel overburdened by posting. Please, if you play a character somehow involved with Limsa Lominsa, take the time to make a post and remind your friends to do so as well. Phase 4 - Limsa Lominsan FC Events In Progress I've started this phase this morning. It turns out that Balmung has a decent handful of FCs based in Limsa Lominsa/La Noscea, and I've reached out to each of these FCs' officers, explaining this project and asking that they lend their support by advertising and hosting public events in Limsa Lominsa sometime in the near future. Obviously I cannot predict how this will go, but with some luck and good will, we might see a nice series of events sometime soon. If you happen to know any of the leaders of these Limsa Lominsan FCs, please feel free to encourage them to pitch in. Additionally I'll keep an eye on the upcoming events posted, and speak with the leaders of each. Perhaps certain non-plot related events like date auctions could be relocated to Limsa Lominsa. No way to know without asking. So we'll see how this goes. Phase 5 - The Limsa Lominsa Skype Chat (Optional) And so we come to the first optional phase, meaning that my work is nearly done. Phase 5 is something that the players, not I, need to decide. Would it be beneficial to create an OOC Skype channel for Limsa Lominsa players? And would people be interested in joining such a chat? These are questions that only you all can answer, so I'll handle it in the following manner. If you believe this is something that should be done, simply send me a PM with your Sype ID. I'll not disclose the ID to anyone else. If I receive enough such messages, I'll create the channel. If not, then I won't. It's as simple as that. Like this project as a whole, each phase can only succeed if each player reading this thread makes an effort to step forward. Please keep that in mind.
12. Project Update Phase 2 - The Limsa Lominsan RP LS In Progress Nearly fifty players have subscribed to the Lominsan Society LS, and I still have requests that haven't been issued. I'm glad to see that all it took was someone rallying the cause for so many players to throw in their support. Just a friendly reminder, though, membership in this LS implies that you'll make a special effort to RP in Limsa, even if it seems slow. @ Avalt Laguz Celestaux Pierriquet Derrick Shark Jajara Jara L'yhta Mahre M'raj Mercenary Saehri Baasja Steel Wolf Xha'li Moui Yvelont Navarre Zhavi I've been unable to locate you via Player Search. I'll still occasionally search, but I must ask that you please take it upon yourself to seek out one of the LS leaders and ask for an invitation. These leaders are: Sion Gyr Arielle Beaudonet Aysun Demiir Elisea Renyven Faye Covington Nadeau Celeste Xenedra Ambreaus Phase 3 - The Limsa Lominsan Directory In Progress I've gone ahead and started Phase 3 and posted a brief introduction and template here. All players interested in supporting this project are encouraged to post in order to facilitate more RP awareness for Limsa Lominsa based characters. I purposefully kept the template simple, but with enough key information that any curious RPer can generate hooks to engage with other characters. Regarding progress into Phase 4 - I'm going to wait a few days to allow the LS to continue growing and for players to grow more comfortable with the free form community RP it promotes. With a bit more awareness for this project, FC leaders will be more agreeable to assisting. But so far, this has turned out better than I expected, and I want to thank everyone for their support.
13. Phase 3 of the project to revitalize RP in Limsa Lominsa is a character directory for all characters that focus important parts of their RP in the city by the sea, whether it's residency, occupational, or otherwise. Every player owning such a character is encouraged to take the time to post here. This directory, combined with the new Lominsan Society linkshell will make it easier for each player to find each other, learn simple hooks for RP, and generate more activity in our favored city. A basic template can be found below: Personal Profile Character Name: TEXT Gender: TEXT Race: TEXT Domestic Profile Civil Status: TEXT Place of Residence: TEXT Occupation: TEXT Free Company: TEXT Social Profile TEXT Meta Profile TEXT
14. Project Update Phase 2 - The Limsa Lominsa RP LS In Progress Last night we enjoyed our first night with the new Limsa Lominsa LS and saw nearly forty characters join within the first few hours. That's a very encouraging start. For now, I intend to focus on the advertisement of the LS and gaining more members, as it's the cornerstone of luring players back to RPing in Limsa Lominsa. In addition, I've registered the linkpearl on the RPC LS Directory, hopefully giving it more public accessibility. Please keep in mind that I encourage you all to continue RPing in Limsa, as this is going to be a gradual process that will only succeed if we tough it out even when it looks like progress is slow. And also please share the news of revitalizing Limsa with your RP friends, FCs, and other LSs. This is a great idea, Zhavi, and one that I hadn't considered. I personally under-utilize forum RP, but I know that others enjoy it a great deal. After I look over the RPC's forum format, and see just how play-by-post RP works here, I'll set up something for you and other players wishing to join you.
15. Fellow Limsa Enthusiasts. We had a strong start last night, with nearly forty characters joining the LS. I have high hopes for our success in bringing bulk RP back to Limsa Lominsa. I encourage all of you to share this and the over all project with your RP friends, FCs, and other LSs. And remember that absolutely anyone can join the LS so long as they're willing to make an effort to establish a presence within Limsa Lominsa.
16. Welcome! The Lominsan Society linkshell is Phase 2 of a larger project to revitalize role-play in Balmung's city of Limsa Lominsa. It's an in-character linkshell composed of characters that live, work, and operate mostly in Limsa Lominsa. The in-character distribution of the linkshell was a public relations project spearheaded by Maelstrom Admiral Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn and other Lominsan leaders, announced in the Harbor Herald article written by beloved Lominsan journalist, Petyr Winsome. Winsome's article helps the reader understand just how detrimental the loss of so many adventurers is to Lominsan morale and economy, and goes on to describe how every resident and business owner within the city of Limsa Lominsa and the Mist residential district will be delivered a personal linkpearl, connecting them to every other proud Lominsan citizen. Everyone who plays a Lominsan based character is welcome to ask one of the linkshell's leaders for an invitation, but just a friendly reminder that this is an in-character linkshell and implies that every member will make a special effort to spend a majority of their role-play time in Limsa Lominsa. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you enjoy the unique environment that only Limsa Lominsa can offer! Linkshell Leaders:
17. Project Update Phase 2 - The Limsa Lominsa RP LS In Progress The IC justification for the ownership of the new Lominsan Society LS can be found here. The LS may now be treated as IC.
18. Project Update Phase 1 - The Limsa Lominsa Presence In Progress I'll be making a special effort to spend my RP time in Limsa Lominsa. Any other players interested in Limsa based RP should feel free to send me a friend invite or Tell requesting such. Phase 2 - The Limsa Lominsa RP LS In Progress I'm now in the process of issuing invitations to the large number of players expressing interest. Please bear with me, as it may take me some time to get to you. If I take overly long, send me a friendly reminder. Also, since many have asked, this will be an IC LS, but for now players should feel free to use it for OOC purposes. I'll cover the IC distribution of the LS after I have covered a bulk of the invitations.
19. This is already more replies than I expected, and after seeing such an encouraging turn out and giving a lot of thought to the cause of bringing RP back to LL, I've decided to commit to the following plan. With some help from other LL enthusiasts, and a little luck, I think we can put LL back on the RP map. So, here's the plan: Phase 1 - The Limsa Lominsa Presence The first and most important phase of my plan is to make a special effort to remain in Limsa Lominsa during my RP time, and to encourage others to do the same. Players conglomerate on Ul'dah, because that's where the bulk RP is, but if some few of us resist that urge and establish a presence in LL, then I trust we'll see a small trickle of RP back to Limsa. No, we likely won't see the mob of RPers enjoyed by the Quicksand, but it's a necessary foundation for each of the following phases. Phase 2 - The Limsa Lominsa RP LS The Lominsan Society is going to be a linkshell open to any character who lives, works, mainly operates in Limsa Lominsa. It will also be open to any character that represents an FC that is based in LL. It will be non-specific to race or class, meaning that one needn't be an LL appropriate character type, such as a roegadyn armorer. However, the LS is not for character that will spend all their time in Ul'dah or Gridania. I'll be sure invite everyone who's already posted here, and anyone who posts later. Phase 3 - The Limsa Lominsa Directory This is perhaps the easiest phase of my new project, and will be as simple as a posting a thread in the Balmung Directory forum. The purpose of a LL Directory will be to establish and document who exactly RPs in LL, the roles their characters play, and anything else of note the players feel like sharing. This can be used in tandem with the Lominsan Society LS, to make players aware of which FCs exist and headquarter in Limsa Lominsa, or independently to assist LL players in finding other characters to contribute to their own stories. Phase 4 - Limsa Lominsan FC Events I'm going to be making a special effort to seek out LL based FCs and reach out to their leaders and event coordinators. My goal will be to ask these players to stage and advertise public events within Limsa Lominsa itself, in order to draw more players back to the city. If any Limsan FC leaders would like to reach out to me beforehand and start talking about possibilities, I'll be happy to do that. Phase 5 - The Limsa Lominsa Skype Chat (Optional) In my brief experience running an FC, and my experience afterward keeping a community of RPers together, I've found that a Skype group chat goes a long way towards encouraging friendly attitudes and RP. More than that, it helps to prevent much of the OOC drama that arises from RP since the players are all relatively acquainted with one another and people are less likely grief with people they know. Obviously this will be completely optional, and will only be implemented if a large enough number of player display interest. Phase 6 - The Limsa Lominsan Free Company (Optional) If the previous phases are successful then I will commit myself to building a Limsa Lominsa FC. Currently I have no premise, as I'm going to take this project in order, step by step. So this could end up being anything from a town council, to a shadow society secretly pulling LL's strings, to another trade regulation committee, or any number of differing themes. However the point will be to create an FC that headquarters and operates within LL, and tries to keep a bulk of the events held to La Noscea. Open Invitation Bringing RP back to a game area is no small task, and it's likely to be a slow and gradual process. As such, I'm under no illusions that I can successfully manage this alone, so I would be more than happy for anyone to step up and contribute in any way they think they can. For example, any player could contribute by creating specialized LS's, perhaps an LS dedicated to Maelstrom soldiers or Yellow Jacket officers (like the existing Immortal Flame LS.) Obviously the idea can be applied to any small group type theme, like the numerous guilds in LL. Or perhaps as M'raj stated, players could make a special effort to bring the corruption based RP that attracts players to Ul'dah to LL. Anything that any player thinks will be fun, and will generate interest in LL is welcome. Conclusion This is my plan. I have no time frame, and I do not expect this to be an overnight resuscitation of RP back into LL. I do believe that there are many others who haven't posted here that would love to see LL receive more RP attention, and I'm certain that the community in general would benefit from the RP being spread out beyond Ul'dah. As I tackle each phase, I'll post here and keep people updated. Anyone wishing to contribute may post here or send me a PM. Any assistance at all is welcome, even if it's something as small as making a neat logo for the LS. Thank you for reading my overly long post.
20. So, as some of you know, I posted this a short time ago to see how various players felt about the present three city-states. I personally find Limsa Lominsa to be the preferable of the three for several reasons that I'll discuss below. Role-play Friendliness: Of the three cities, Limsa is the most RP friendly in that it has the widest range of RP environments. It has three taverns, of three different sizes and atmospheres, it has a high class restaurant, it has numerous neutral RP spots like the scaffolding on the lower level around the adventurers' guild, or the Anchor Yard, and it has everything along the sea level where characters can fish and RP on ships. And this is all in an environment that offers a view of the surrounding world, instead of closed off walls or clustered trees. Originality: As far as I can tell, Limsa is the only original thing in this game. FFXIV is filled with many medieval fantasy tropes, and most of them are unavoidable. In terms of the two other cities, we have seen Ul'dah and Gridania in countless incarnations across movies, books, and video games. However, we have never really seen anything quite like Limsa Lominsa. Typically ports are more like Ul'dah, neatly laid out and walled - save for the port side. They tend to be Dickensian in atmosphere, cloistered buildings not rising terribly high, pollution, the works. The more quaint port cities are cleaner, more peaceful - save for the docks - and are usually bustling hubs of commerce watched over by the authorities. Limsa isn't any of that. Limsa is a wide open city of spires rising out of the sea, ruled by pirates who swing the only weapon on earth no pirate would ever be caught dead with. And these are pirates that aren't lawless, aren't suffering scurvy, aren't sailing from port to port raiding and pillaging, aren't ransacking other ships. These are smartly dressed pirates, who all sport that special Square Enix beauty, and have conveniently organized themselves into specialized teams, some of which are the law enforcement. So, pirates who aren't pirates at all. AKA original. Anyway! Back to my point. On the Balmung server Limsa has found itself devoid of RP for whatever reason, and I would like to fix that. So what I'm considering is a Limsa Lominsa LS, for characters that live and work in the city. Basically a community telephone, or maybe use it to broadcast a Limsa-wide "radio station" type thing. I'm really just spit balling here. But the basic idea is that if you play a character that lives or works in Limsa, make a special effort to be there. If a community LS helps that, so be it. I'm happy to start and organize something to that effect, even if it means generating a completely new FC based in Limsa. I'd like to hear people's thoughts in order to bring RP back to this great RP atmosphere that has no RP. RP. So what do you think?
21. I just wanted to take a moment to welcome Arielle back to the RP scene. Welcome back, Arielle! I also had the pleasure of RPing with her Arianne character recently and she was an absolute delight, with good, well written posts, and a very friendly OOC attitude regarding the RP situation. Arielle is definitely a wonderful addition to our already great RP crowd.
22. Time for another RP discussion. I play on Balmung and lately I've noticed that the RP scene outside of Ul'dah is more or less circumstantial, mostly composed of characters while on errands throughout the world, and some few character too stubborn to be caught dead RPing in Ul'dah. Personally, I don't understand the favor for Ul'dah and I find Limsa Lominsa to be a far more RP friendly environment due to its greater number in taverns/bars/restaurants and neutral RP zones. I mean, let's face it, Ul'dah's RP spots are pretty limited by comparison to Limsa's vast number of little nooks and alcoves, random balconies and platforms and three taverns in addition to a restaurant. And that's not even counting the ships. So why Ul'dah? I have no idea. Having explained my position, I'm curious which city fellow RPers favor and their reasons for doing so. Lay it on me.
23. Retired! Hello, RPC. This post is much belated, as I've been playing Sion since the game launched. But since I'm trying to refresh my RP experience and get involved with more players and plots beyond my own sphere, I thought this would do some of the leg work for me. I hope you enjoy reading what I have to say about myself (one of my favorite subjects.) I. Basic Info Characters: Sion Gyr Primary character: Sion Gyr Linkshells: Lominsan Society, Traveling Templar, The Grindstone, The Immortal Flame, Unsung Heroes Primary RP linkshell: Lominsan Society II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy, without a doubt. Gyr is almost always in-character, and even when he's not, if approached by an RPer, I would find a way to shift him IC. I basically play this game, or any of my previous MMOs, for the RP experience. Views on RP combat and injuries: I believe that RP combat should be handled fairly, with each player having a firm grasp on what's reasonably fair in addition to what their characters are realistically capable. Part of that means that a character should not be relying upon abilities and powers that aren't supported by IG abilities, and even more importantly, neither player should enter into a combat situation presuming that their character will emerge victorious. Injuries are wonderful and can lend a great deal of flavor to an environment otherwise bloated with perfectly flawless characters. Though I do find injuries harder to justify in a world of high magic, especially curative magic. With the hordes of level 50 white mages and scholars hopping about, it's hard to explain why any character might have a mundane injury. So if a player can manage to persist an injury, without relying on something far fetched such as it being an injury of fantastic nature, I'm all for it and I often do it myself. Views on IC romance: I absolutely love it, so long as it's organic and not orchestrated. Nothing kills an in-character romance faster or better than OOC arrangements. But few things are as satisfying as the development born of two strangers meeting and naturally developing in a romantic direction. Beyond romance, into the realm of sexual role-play, I feel very much the same. It's gratifying when things shift into adult themes of their own volition. And so long as it's just that, and not ERP trawling, then I shamelessly participate. Nor do I judge anyone else for engaging in ERP. We're all adults here. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Naturally this requires a little more behind the curtains coordination on the part of the players, except in rare circumstances, but I'm also a big supporter of friendly, familial, and even adversarial RP. I think the RPC community will find themselves hard pressed to generate any RP that I dislike (so long as it's firmly within the realm of believable per the setting.) Views on lore: To be perfectly blunt, I find certain lore decisions to be poor in terms of FFXIV's content. Some examples of this are ending the 7th Umbral Era, turning the surviving Ala Mhigans into pathetic beggars, and making aethernet travel canon. But aside from that I'm more or less satisfied with the game's lore. Even so, despite my disagreement with some of the lore's key elements, I still adhere to it, and adamantly avoid any RP that directly contradicts the facts of the world of Hydaelyn. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I'm unsure what this section is supposed to be, but I'll answer what I think it's asking. I vastly favor the /em channel, mostly because my RP posts always consist of both action and dialogue. It's a rare thing to see me use the /s channel. I've been known to RP over the /t channel, such as for linkshells, but by default I consider Tells to be completely OOC. And, naturally, all adult themed RP is held in private channels, such as Party. III. 24. The most important thing to me when I started my own FC was to keep my players in touch with each other, as I firmly believe that a community approach is the best way to create great RP. Some of you may be familiar with the growing axiom, "We're a community of players, not characters." And it's more or less my mantra when it comes to all things player and RP related. So, in an effort to achieve that, I created a Skype chat to parallel the various IG chat channels, so that people could socialize about whatever they like, regardless of their log in status. And it went a long way to keeping relations even keeled, as that close communication prevented a lot of potential OOC drama. Even when I ultimately disbanded my FC, I still kept the Skype chat because the small group of people that was involved had grown close, and to this day the chat remains active. In the spirit of this, I've been wondering if another enterprising individual has created an RPC-scale equivalent to this. Is there a broad community Skype channel? If so, who must players contact in order to be invited? If something like this doesn't exist yet, I would like to open my own skype channel to that very purpose. A live chat goes a long way to fostering good relations and great RP. So, having said all of that, I formally invite any RPC member to contact me here or on Skype if they wish to join this small - but hopefully growing - attempt to keep the community close and friendly. 25. Is this true? I don't recall any dialogue or scenes supporting that aethernet travel is canon, or at all utilized by any single NPC. But my memory isn't flawless. Does anyone have an example of aethernet travel being supported by anything via the main scenario or a side quest?
