  1. Blatantly self serving bump for an RPer still in search of great RP connections! Don't be shy!
  2. Server: Balmung Timezone: EST (GMT -5) Focal Region: Ul'dah/Thanalan I play L'cero Nunh -- Cero of the Viper -- and the story I had been telling with him is complete. It's time to look forward to the next tale and the truth is that I really don't know what form that's going to take. I'm also back from a hiatus of about 9 months and have found that the vast majority of my former RP contacts have departed FF14. My cat and I are forced to start anew, get out there, meet new and interesting characters, establish a new network of RP folk! I won't bother defining what manner of RP I'm looking for, because I'm seeking anything and everything, from anyone, regardless of race or gender. I don't want to pre-establish expectations and would rather invite anyone -- anyone at all -- who finds themselves interested to reach out via RPC or IG. I'm looking forward to it! In the meantime, I should reiterate that I'm a Balmung player in the Eastern Standard Timezone (or GMT -5,) and that I focus my character presence in and around Ul'dah and Thanalan. L'cero Nunh is obviously a Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te male, but I encourage readers not to make the usual presumptions based on his Nunhiness. I have invested a good amount of thought into a realistic portrayal of Sunseeker culture and even more attention into Cero's story itself. I can assure you, this Nunh isn't what you expect (and is completely lore appropriate.) There it is. For any interested parties, please feel free to send me a PM here on the RPC, or if you're as communicative as I am, don't hesitate to ask for my Discord. I can't wait to hear from you! But you're still here and wonder if there's anything specific I can offer for RP concepts? Well, since you asked so nicely... There is something that I think could be a lot of fun. I would like to see Cero cast in a role not unlike the dynamic between DC Comics's Batman and Joker. These two icons are as much family as they are enemies. Each knows the other better than anyone else and in truth they need one another to justify themselves. It really is a fantastic and fascinating paradigm. Of course, they're the stuff of comics with one cut as the clear hero and the other the definite villain. I don't need anything so black and white, but I think it could be a blast to find someone (or someones) with whom Cero could have that mutually adversarial relationship. This wouldn't be as simple as aggravating one another or engaging in cartoonish antics under the guise of villainy. I'm looking for a player (or players) who grasps the depth of what I'm putting down here, has a character (or characters) to fit the bill, and wants to work with me to make this story happen. Behind the scenes, this player and I would be collaborators, together ensuring that neither character is the undisputed superior and that both characters feel the pressure of the other's presence and activities. On stage, our characters should create around themselves a captivating sequence of events that delight others to witness and join in. Of course, it needn't be quite to these terms either. Maybe you play an actual villain in desperate need of an opponent, or you prefer something even more complicated than Batman and Joker and want to aim for Batman and Catwoman (personally, I find this idea to be even more compelling than Batman/Joker,) or maybe you're a natural GM and this post has inspired you. If what I've written resonates with you at all, please don't hesitate to contact me and we can talk things over.
  3. Rowena is a delightful RPer and an absolutely fantastic player to have in your corner for gameplay. In my short time back she's made me feel quite welcome and has patiently introduced me to all the new elements of FF14. She's definitely someone you want on your friend list.
  4. Thanks, Rowena and Constant! I have a lot of catching up to do, so I'm definitely interested in making RP contacts and gameplay friends. I'll reach out to you both!
  5. The character of Maddox Gyr has been officially retired and replaced with the returning L'cero Nunh. Thanks to all who responded and are enjoying my silly cat.
  6. As of now House Haillenarte FC is now allied with Nutkin's Chosen FC. While not active RPers, Nutkin's Chosen is a close knit bunch of experts on the gameplay of FFXIV, in addition to being exceedingly friendly and helpful. Together we assist one another where the other lacks - RP and game support, and vice versa - to create a more engaging and inclusive experience for everyone. We've also begun working with Yazi (Flavie Filoumonte), whose information can be found here. Yazi is an active RPer and story teller, and together Hail FC and she will be working to create stories for Ishgard-centric RPers across the various social arenas. Finally, we now have an active Discord channel. Like our website, the channel will maintain an open door policy, so that anyone wishing to stay in touch and participate with our growing group can easily do so. We're eager, we're friendly, and we're looking forward to RPing and playing with you.
  7. Welcome! For what it's worth, the swap over to Balmung is completely worth it. It may be a bit dubious to continue to pay SE $18 for something they should have solved a year ago, but if you value good and abundant RP, you just can't beat it! Hope to see you among the assimilated soon!
  8. Welcome to the RPC! I think you'll find that FF14 has a lot to offer, even to a veteran RPer such as yourself. Good luck and I look forward to running into you sometime.
  9. Welcome to the RPC and Balmung! RP server of legend is a pretty fair assessment and I don't think that you'll be disappointed. Across my own considerable RP experience I have never encountered anything quite like the Balmung community. Welcome again and looking forward to RPing with you sometime!
  10. I'm pleased to announce that House Haillenarte has officially launched! Sure, it's after a 7 month delay, but at least we're not Star Citizen! The information found across the pages of this thread is all still valid as the unique concept of this FC hasn't changed, and a more summarized version can be found on linkshell directory profile. Those interested may also explore our forums which I have made fully available (read only) to the public. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the RPC's own Sounsyy for providing a massive amount of Ishgard lore, to keep this FC on track. Thanks, Sounsyy! Any and all interested folks can contact me here, in-game, or post in the LS profile. Thanks for your attention and support throughout this process!
  11. With the posting of this profile - correct spelling and all - I can no longer hide behind the excuse of development. House Haillenarte Free Company is officially open for business. While not yet a Level 8 Free Company, we're making swift progress and it's simply a matter of time. In the meantime we're enjoying our initial plot, and intermingling with other Role-Players across Balmung. We hope to see you out there, and aim to enhance your experience! Any and all interested parties may contact me via PM on the forums, reply here, or contact Maddox Gyr In-Game.
  12. ...thank you! I've been up all night and derped.
  13. House Haillenarte FC has been permanently retired.
  14. Hello, Simeon! Hail FC is a small group of Ishgard-centric characters that are always happen to RP and make new connections. Please feel free to reach out to me on Maddox Gyr IG. Otherwise I wish you luck in finding what you're looking for.
  15. Occasionally I use the Wind-Up Goblin to represent a pint-sized goblin that follows my character around. His name is Liar, and he's a mute. Technically it's not inaccurate that he never tells the truth.
  16. I've found that FFXIV is so inconsistent with itself that your character can be whatever you want it to be, John Everyman or Chosen One. Consider for a moment what makes your character the Warrior of Light - that would be the inability to be tempered by Primals. Everything else is circumstantial. The game begins with a vision of Hydaelyn, but like the many RPers that play crazy powers, this can be dismissed as a dream. Everything your character does up until the moment they meet their first members of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn is rather ordinary and could have been achieved by any member of the Adventurer's Guild. Then your character discovers that they possess the Echo, a quality not exclusive to your character. At that point the game becomes a repeating cycle. Do relatively normal thing > Experience Echo > Immunity to Tempering The rest of it is all jargon. The Scions spout off about you being the WoL, but do they really believe it? Is that why literally 90% of the game's quests are delivery or messenger jobs, when a courier or linkpearl would have done it faster and better? The game also completely fails to address the fate of the original WoL, and if your character is he or she, or if the original vanished into insignificance and your character picked up the reins. The only time we ever see the WoL status verified is by Midgardsormr, when he supposedly removes it, but again literally nothing changes for your character. He or she retains the Echo and still can't be tempered. So the complete lack of the status of WoL meaning anything, combined with the world's gross mistreatment of the single most important person alive, combined with important NPCs constantly making arbitrary declarations based on absolutely nothing (ending the 7th Umbral Age), combined with your character only ever exhibiting a single extraordinary quality (the Echo) that he or she never loses throughout the entire MSQ, leads me to one conclusion: You're a dude or dudette with the Echo, the Echo prevents you from being tempered, and you're not the only one. The Scions of the Seventh Dawn like their self aggrandized pretend time, but you're just a slightly less average adventurer.
  17. @ Roen, I don't know who they are, but I'd be all for some stuff if they are. Maybe you feel up to making introductions? @ Vinland, we do have an IC LS that we use to invite folks who don't necessarily want to join, but do want to interact. Also, the nature of this particular FC allowed for more flexible roles like mercenaries to be members without adhering to anyone else's IC authority.
  18. They're exceedingly helpful in obscuring that you play an anime character.
  19. I'm not so sure. I might expect to see a Haillenarte loyal knight in a traveling troupe of troublesome troubadours. My alliteration was unintentional. Anyway! Yes, it sounds like it good fit and we're happy to make your character's acquaintance and RP with you any time. Feel free to reach out to myself on Maddox Gyr, or one of the others. Though I'll warn you that the end of the fall semester and impending holidays does have RP time a bit stretched between us. You know, the usual. We don't have an FC profile up yet, but you can find more information, like our staff list, at www.haillenarte.enjin.com Hope to RP with you soon.
  20. Welcome! Thought I'd answer your query about the races, since you're interested in a bit of the game's lore of those particular three. The truth is, except for perhaps the elezen and au ra, it's difficult to lore break this game's races. The hyur are humans, and so can be anywhere, do anything, just like any other fantasy setting. Unless you're talking about highlanders, at which point you're pretty much looking at a Scot and/or Scandinavian person. And really, the rest of the races aren't so different. The miqo'te are by far the most popular and populous race. Really, cat people everywhere. Just do a Google image search of miqo'te memes. But, like hyur, they're hard to lore break. They all came to Eorzea on boats a long long time ago, before the rain and before the snow, and were tribal until they weren't. Now the entire race is composed of rebels out to prove that tribalism is bad. Except for the ones who are still tribal. So, like I said, can't go wrong. Then you have your elezen, which are a bit more lore heavy because of Gridania, Ishgard, and duskwights. Basically, your elezen is going to be of one of those three categories, and it's going to heavily effect the concept: tree-hugger, medieval fanatic, or sour puss. Roegadyn are about as easy as hyur, because even though the game sort of kind of maybe thinks about hinting at roegadyn lore, it never quite broaches the topic. Roegadyn come from mountains or islands, except for those that don't, and name themselves either after thematic names earned by deeds, or keep their racial names, except those who don't. Pretty flexible. Finally, you have the weeble wobbles - I mean the lalafel! Again, these guys are about as lax as hyur, with the exception that they may or may not compose the majority of the aristocracy of Ul'dah. Finally, au ra. These guys actually have some distinct lore. They're from Doma, they're tribal, they have some absurd naming conventions that adhere to Fuedal Japan's old culture, and they didn't exist on Eorzea before about 8-9 months ago. Oh, and they're not dragon people, they just look like it, and their horns can "hear" since they don't have ears. Obviously a lot of players take their own approaches, making adjustments here or there to suit their styles. There really isn't any lore breaking that you need to worry about. Just present it well, be familiar with the norm, even if you don't represent it, and have fun. tl;dr: The races in ease of lore content, from hardest to simplest: Elezen/Au ra, Highlander, Lalafel/Roegadyn, Miqo'te, Midlander.
  21. This is an update on an old, and likely forgotten-about, project! Yes, I spun an ambitious yarn pre-HW about the new FC community that I would be building, dated to release with the new expansion. And, yes, I didn't quite deliver. The players who supported the effort took a decent shot at it, and the FC even reached level 8! Then things happened as they're wont to do, I poofed, the FC was deleted, and the project itself was lost like so much dust in the wind. Poetic imagery! However, I'm a stubborn old goat and just refuse to give up. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but... Here I go again! But not on my own! (If you don't get the reference, you're too young.) I've got some of my old supporters, and some new ones, who have decided to take another crack at establishing this unique FC with me. With one small change. Previously it had been decided that we wouldn't be recruiting or running plots until we reached level 8, but this time around we're doing those things while reaching level 8. We've already got a bit of plot going, gradually building relations between characters, meeting for RP, and making wacky paper mache hats based on our favorite Pokemon. (If you don't know any Pokemon, you're too old.) Okay, we probably aren't doing that last one. Anyway, while this isn't a cry for recruitment, it is an alert to all those folks who were interested, and to any new players who might be, that we're back and taking a crack at it, and all support and RP is welcome! tl;dr: House Haillenarte FC is back in development and Jon Bon Jovi is the best Pokemon.
  22. Dominance/submission. Christian Gay and Lesbian Association. No! Not 50 Shades of Grey!
  23. I had a ton of fun, and loved the opportunity to meet and observe other characters. As a rough draft for this kind of event, I thought it went extremely well. The tokens were an inspired idea, and I'm not sure any kind of time limit has to be implemented on them. So what if someone arrives late or switches to an alt? The idea is to encourage interaction, not stifle it. That being said, regarding FC members voting on one another. It should simply be noted that one or two characters being "rescued" by their FC is one thing. An entire FC only bidding on its own members is something quite different. I know it wasn't intentional or malicious, but it didn't go unnoticed either.
