  1. The website blurb on White Mages certainly does raise some questions. It wouldn't be the first time the devs backpedaled. I played briefly in 1.0 and remember when Conjurers were the catch-all "classic" magic class, i.e. Fire, Ice, Thunder, Aero, et cetera PLUS healing with Thaumaturges being.. uh, weird. (I never played one at the time, sorry!) Still, with nothing else in the lore to back up what's on the website, I guess it's best to ignore it until stated otherwise. That being said, I'm not going to just outright dismiss people who decide to lore-bend a bit to make those classes work, simply because I'm not one to exclude anyone. Plus it's crappy lore and my character is clueless about magic anyway. [/opinion] >.>
  2. I hate to say it, but that might be the best approach. It's not ideal, because I know I can't be alone in thinking that a big part of the fun in a Final Fantasy MMO is playing one of the iconic FF jobs. It kills a little bit of the fun knowing that they're forbidden territory in RP, to be quite frank.
  3. The Titan-ing. I laughed! Congrats on that. Can't wait 'til I reach the relic quest. Just need to decide if I want to "main" Archer or Pugilist. >.>
  4. I didn't think you were being harsh, Liadan. Thanks for sharing the lore. I haven't done the Black OR White Mage questlines yet, nor have I done a ton of research on them because they're just not important topics for my character's RP. Just going by what I gleaned from a cursory glance over the job descriptions on wiki. (And for the record, I never claimed it would be easy to learn both black and white magic; in fact, I was arguing the exact opposite.) One thing I'm curious about is what the process of becoming a White Mage looked like pre-ARR when the jobs were first released. So that gives me something to search for on YouTube or something when I get home today, unless someone can shed some light on that for the discussion.
  5. *shrugs* I'm not here to tell anyone what they can or can't do. All I was observing is that the two magicks have entirely different schools of thought surrounding them. Black magic seems to have quite the stigma attached to it, given its penchant for destruction and being connected to the Void, unless I'm mistaken. I'm no lore expert and I haven't done either the BLM or WHM job quests. It just seems like it would be an unusual (but again, not impossible) scenario to successfully master both IC. Such a character would inspire awe from my own simple Miqo'te hunter. *grins*
  6. I wouldn't be too ready to look ascew at someone who is a blm and Whm since Yoshi said one idea for future content would be "Advanced jobs" with Red mage being a suggestion that would require both black and white mageness. True. Don't get me wrong, I just think it would be unusual to have complete mastery of both. Red Mage is something I'd love to see. But it implies a certain "jack of all trades, master of none" amalgam of black and white magic - at least, traditionally. We don't know how the class will work in FFXIV yet. I just hope it retains the blending of sword and spell that defined the class in the past.
  7. Much like roleplaying the Echo, I don't see anything inherently wrong with RPing a character as a Summoner/Black Mage/White Mage so long as the player respects the lore behind them without resorting to "Chosen One" tropes. It can be done. RPing a character as both a Black and White Mage would raise my eyebrows, though. (Plus, honestly, locking out "classic" Final Fantasy jobs from RP just seems plain un-fun to me. I'm playing an FF MMO for a reason here!)
  8. Funny as it sounds, no walk button would be a deal breaker for me, too. (That and I just am not a fan of Tera's overall aesthetic.) But welcome to the RPC! We have role-players, walk buttons, and dancing moogles. :moogle:
  9. Heheh. I know I already poked you in game, but I wanted to thank you for the reply. I couldn't stay in the game long, but look forward to discussing more RP stuff and maybe even, y'know, actually RP with you very soon.
  10. Must be the mustache. "Hey. What's in the pot?"
  11. Hey there. I had some good times in FFXI, but I keep finding it increasingly hard to go back to. I miss some of the more technical aspects (like skillchains), the way summons were handled compared to here (bleh, "Egi"), and the sheer variety of jobs. Especially Ninja and Red Mage. We be needin' those, stat! Anyway! I'm a new face too, but welcome, Mr. Goblin Avatar Guy. For your amusement, here's a dancing moogle: :moogle:
  12. More contacts is a good thing! Feel free to hunt and stalk to your heart's content. *chuckle* Or I'll send you a poke when/if I see ya. Thanks for the welcome, Rinh and Kiht.
  13. There seem to be a few of us! And sure, will do next time I'm in the game.
  14. I'm not much for introductions, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I play a Keeper of the Moon. You have to guess what his name is, though. Let's see, what else... All of my acquaintances in-game so far have been made through random, impromptu RP - no setting up "scenes" and whatnot, which gives me pretty high hopes for the Balmung community. Uh.. *taps himself on the head as if to beat the words out of his brain* I guess that's about it, really. Looking forward to more RP. Here, have a dancing moogle. :moogle:
