Nope, not changing my hair. Just gonna sit and watch the Clouds as they pass by. -
It seems like, if one really wanted to play up the whole "religious warrior" archetype that D&D paladins espouse, playing a particularly devout knight of Ishgard might be an option. Granted, I suppose such a character would likely not be called a "paladin" as that seems to be specifically an Ul'dahn title, but still, it seems likely that the Archbishop might have his own Templars or something similar. Thoughts?

THIS IS AMAZING. -
Yes, yes, and yes. Teach me of your ways, O dweller of the city.

SE has come out and said that you can cross breed with other races (Like Hyur/Miqote) but it's rare. No one knows if it's rare because no one really does it or because they aren't quite biologically compatible, however. So that's just what the player feels like. On Miqote being their culture: True. Miqote are their culture much more than they are "cats" but I think it's being somewhat ignorant to assume their culture isn't cat-like either. I mean Seekers are basically Lions and Keepers are basically Tigers. Can you elaborate on this bolded part a bit?
-
Fair enough. I should have said "they're felines." I didn't mean to infer that because Ashe purrs/hisses/etc that every miqo'te does. I think in particular the Seekers are probably much wilder and more like big cats compared to Keepers too, and I know there's a couple camps that certainly seem to play that aspect of them up. Regardless though, they're quite clearly Felis Sapiens or something, however you want to call it. There's pretty clearly no canine influence or any other sort of mammal beyond humans + a feline of some kind. What *kind* of feline they act like almost certainly varies from group to group and across individuals like any human, but apart from that. *shrug* I feel like I may be coming off a bit demanding in saying "RP like I say so!" but it's more that I just can't see why people'd say otherwise. Individuals aside, the game has plenty of examples of how miqo'te act, and when someone tries to say their headcanon involves the entire race acting un-catlike, well. It's just objectively wrong. Do what you want with your own character but don't try saying the whole race has nothing to do with felines! Mmh.. I think we agree with each other, at the root of it. I describe Ken as having "wolven" qualities, but that doesn't mean I think he is, in fact, canine. I think the design intent for FFXI's Mithra was pretty obviously, "Hay guise, let's make a cat race." And, let's face it, Miqo'te are the Eorzean analogue for Mithra; I think it's a bit disingenuous to argue otherwise. There are plenty of differences, mind you, but all of our current playable races have their roots (on an OOC level, anyway) in the races of that other FF MMO. At the same time, though, there is a reason why people tend to downplay those similarities, and that is because it's very easy to fall into this cutesy, yarn-chasing, "nyan nyan" trap that is the bane of the folks who prefer to invest more heavily in the more tribal or even outright feral aspects of the race. Not that there's anything inherently wrong, I feel, with - y'know - being cute if that's how someone chooses to play, but there are a lot of Miqo'te roleplayers who simply don't want the race as a whole to be thrown into that category.
-
Not sure it's fair to say that those qualities you just described (rubbing against people, hissing, etc.) is in any way, shape, or form playing up to the Miqo'te's "cultural identity." They have cat-like features, but they're not housecats. Feel free to espouse those qualities if you so desire - nobody should be telling you how to play your character - but I also don't want to hear that those who don't "might as well be Hyur." There are many interesting aspects of Miqo'te society, including what players have created for their individual tribes and such, and it's all a lot more involved and interesting than simply "they're cats."

You can't see the look on Ken's face, so you'll have to use your imagination. (Bless you, default female Miqo equipment. Bless you.) -
I do this, too. On a Seeker friend's advice, Ken almost always wears a turban when he's in Thanalan during the day. Too damned bright, too damned hot, and too damned dusty.
-
I just wanna say that the first one is pretty arguable, while the third is not exclusive to cats. The ears look more like fennec foxes than cats to me. Cat ears are generally triangular (though sometimes are more rounded) and are set forward facing, while miqo'te ears are very elongated and are both angled and set more sideways. The tails, though, are certainly cat-like, though not exclusive in form to cats. I don't intend to argue semantics. I rather purposely made Ken more wolf-like in appearance, myself. What I took issue with was the unwarranted snark.
-
I'm sorry, but I feel compelled to address that first sentence. Respectfully, the OP NEVER said that Miqo'te are cats. The intent was to foster discussion among fellow players of the race - because, let's not try to deny it, the design intent was clear; Miqo'te have a few feline features. Cat-like ears, cat-like tails, pronounced canines (in the case of Keepers) - it's more than enough material for such a discussion to take place. I understand and appreciate concerns that there are players who don't respect the lore behind the race, but Kiht isn't one of them and is far - FAR - from an anime catgirl.
-
This is why I think Miqo'te make good Lancers/Dragoons. And as demonstrated twice by two new Miqo'te NPCs, they seem to make incredible Archers. *buffs nails on his jerkin* Well, I don't mean to brag, but.. Edit: Just to add something to the discussion, there's a short blurb on the origins of Eorzean archery on the official website. "With a bow in hand and a quiver on his back, the archer strikes at the enemy from afar. In Eorzea, two schools of archery have risen to prominence: that of the longbow sentries of the Elezen military, and that of the shortbow hunters among the Miqo'te."

Keepers certainly do, being nocturnal. Slit pupils actually reinforce sight during the DAY, by the way, if that's what you're referring to in regards to Seeker eyes, as they take in less light.
-
I use ears and tail emotes to complement "human" facial expressions. Ken will flatten his ears at times when angry, annoyed or uncertain. His tail will flick rapidly when teasing Kiht. :3 And he overall moves with cat-like grace, but that's where it ends for me. He won't hiss or purr, though I see his voice as having a sort of "growl" to it naturally. So when contented, this could almost sound like a purr while talking. I do actually have him growl and bare his canines when sufficiently angered, but it has more to do with his personality than with anything I see being inherently miqo'te.

I'd thought about making a character inspiration blog and including this sort of thing in it, but then I found this thread and thought, "Eh, why not?" 70vC0qbsBZ4 yTnfzWehaGg 4BaQaaPVvew wjOvmAJ6na0

I like to remind people that if they're playing a computer game, they're already a nerd. Pretty much this! Unless it's Call of Duty/Battlefield. Then you're a dudebro. Ouch, harsh I just love fragging people here and there Not intended to be harsh. Entirely tongue in cheek.

Name: Whispering Wind Clan Families: Burwani, Xihndal, and Jaghna. Location: Nomadic; the Black Shroud and Southern Coerthas Highlands. Sexual Mores: While breeding was considered very important to the clan, greater emphasis was placed on love between mates. Breeding outside the clan was very common; each year on the night of the First Sun of the First Umbral Moon, the Whispering Wind and a handful of other Keeper clans would attend an event called "Loversmoot," a celebration of Menphina with much feasting and revelry. Sons and daughters who had come of age were encouraged (but never forced) to mingle with the other clans, and it was quite common for one to find a potential mate in this manner. Moot or no, all males seeking courtship with a Whispering Wind female would have to prove themselves worthy via a trial defined by her father. This rare instance of male Keeper authority was simply logical to the clan; the father would undoubtedly recall his own trial, making him the parent best suited to test the younger males. In the event that the father is deceased or otherwise not present, the nature of the trial would be decided by the Matriarch herself. It was not entirely uncommon for two or more females to share a mate and this practice was not taboo by any means. But for most of the clan, a single pairing was sufficient. For the children of the clan, the role of care-taker was shared between mother and father whenever possible. Traditions: As is common among Keeper clans, the Whispering Wind was Matriarchal. Any new Matriarch was chosen among the matrons of each family based on clan contributions, decided by popular vote among all families. To help ensure the clan leader acts in the interest of the entire clan, the other families' eldest females were empowered to unanimously vote against any Matriarchal decision. In practice, however, this was almost unheard of. Males were typically expected to become craftsmen, medical caretakers, Lorekeepers serving as historians or advisors to family matrons, and Guardians charged with protecting the clan and Matriarch. Females were commonly the hunters, scouts, and traders of the clan. However, it was not unheard of for males or females to step outside these bounds, or for Guardians to serve as hunters (or vice versa) in times of necessity. Current Status: The destruction wrought by the Elder Primal Bahamut proved devastating to the Whispering Wind, with the scant few survivors scattered to the four winds. A small number of them sought refuge in Gridania. ((I left the bit about the Loversmoot open, in case anyone would like to incorporate that into their own clan's background. Likewise, if anyone is playing a Gridanian Keeper and needs a clan to use as a background origin, feel free to contact me.))

"Embrace your inner horse," they said. "It'll help you build character," they said. Giving Kiht archery lessons. This is my rock. There are many like it, but this one is mine. -
Heh, so many artists 'round here! Well, Ken's a bit rough, but if ya'd like to "borrow" him for a sketch I'd be honored.
