  1. The smile on Ghunzyr's face widened. "Free?! Well, this is already the best bar I ever been in. Why didn't I visit this forest sooner... Barkeep! Your finest brew in your largest mug!" The floorboards creeked as he hurried to the bar counter and leaned on it as he gulped down the ale. "So what's so special about a hanging tree that got you ladies all riled up?"
  2. Low hanging tree limbs snapped as birds and small animals hurried from the creature that carelessly moved through the forest, disturbing the calm. Although it sounded somewhat similar to a careless gobbue rambling towards the city, the guards paid little attention. Scouts had already reported on the creature shortly after it had stepped into the forest, and it was no threat. As it entered the city and made its way down the streets, some men and women were forced to move out of the way for fear of being knocked aside. Somehow the creature, even though it was covered in heavy hanging metal chains and plates, managed to step casually around each unwary person that seemed about to be bowled over by its unslowing strides. The footfalls were heavy, and sank into the soft dirt. In a few slow, heavy strides, it filled the door of the inn. Ghunzyr Aedilvuld had clearly been on the road for a long time. His chainmail coat had broken links and bits of plants stuck to it. The round shield on his back was dented, and the blade at his waist was nicked. His bright red eyes peered out from the barbute, and slung over one shoulder was a full pack that could have doubled as a decent sized tent for most Lalafells. He was a Roegadyn, that much was clear, but huge even by the standards of that mighty people. His muscled frame filled the door from which he surveyed the inn. He removed his helm and ran a metal-clad hand through his dark hair and beard. A handful of long scars crisscrossed much of his face; some of them bending at odd angles when he smiled. His voice was deep, smooth, and rumbled slightly like each heavy step of his casual stride. "I been told a fella could find a cool drink round here."
  3. ((The lyrics of this song match Ghunzyr beautifully, also I see him as a melodic metal kinda guy)) Main Theme: "Blacksong" by Jorn Lande Battle Theme:
  4. ((Clearly I wonât be able to do this post IC, so OOC time for Ghunzyr)) 1) Over the past 10 years, how many MMORPGs have you played? e) Five or more 2) How many hours do you spend online gaming per week? e) 13+ hours 3) In an MMORPG, do you interact with individuals you know outside the game? (i.e. in real life) a) Yes 4) What is most important in keeping your interest in an MMORPG? Select all that apply. If you choose Other, please specify. I ranked them from most important to least. 1) Fun Factor (this is largely dependent on the other stuff on this list) 2) Community (this includes RP for me) 3) Story 4) Environment/World 5) Continual Game Evolution (content patches, updates, expansions, etc) 6) Other: High End Group & Raid Content 7) Graphics 5) Do you believe it is possible for MMORPGs to be addictive? a) Yes 6) If you answered yes to question 5, have you or anyone you known been addicted to an MMORPG? a) Yes 7) How important is communication with others in an MMORPG? a) Very important 8) Do you feel you have made valuable relationships in any MMORPGs? How would you characterize these relationships in contrast to those in real-life? Are there any differences? Similarities? Please elaborate. - I have made some very good relationships online, unfortunately Iâve found they are harder to maintain than offline relationships. I donât like the distinction of âreal-lifeâ vs. MMORPG friends. If I make a connection to someone online and we become friends, good friends, than that IS a âreal-lifeâ friends. Friends made while in character, well, those are my characterâs friends, not real life friends. But if I, the player, make friends with another player, then I consider that person a real friend, not some online pseudo-friend. I am not embarrassed to say I have become more than âjust friendsâ with some players over the years. I have some great memories from the girlfriends I made in various MMORPGs over the years, and some very painful memories as well. These relationships were no less precious or real than the relationship I am in now (although they never lasted as long as this one has). Consider that a relationship that starts online doesnât have to stay online. I recently found out that two people from my old hardcore raid guild days (the game was EQ2 if anyone cares) are now married with kids on the way. They lived in separate states back then, and the only reason they met was because they were in the same guild and raiding every night gave them a chance to get to know each other. You canât tell me that isnât a very real relationship. 9) Do MMORPGs offer modes of communication or support you are unable to find in your geographic location, life situation, or circumstances right now? Please elaborate. - It all depends what you mean. For me, Roleplaying and storytelling are ways of relieving stress. I play in a Dungeons and Dragons game every 2 weeks and that helps, but MMORPGs allow me to distress without all the time and energy that a D&D session requires. Also, I can play MMORPGs when it suits me, which is often late at night. So in a way, yes they do offer support that I am unable to get elsewhere. 10) What methods do you use to communicate with others in MMORPGs? Please select all that apply. If you select Other, please specify. a) Friend List b) Chat Channel c) Voice Communication (Ventrillo as well as the Phone sometimes, depending who it is and where they are geographically) d) Guild/Linkshell/Corporation/Clan e) Forum f) RL Interaction (i.e. physical get togethers, internet cafes, etc) g) Other: Iâve also been known to use messenger programs like Yahoo or MSN, as well as E-Mail 11) Do you view MMORPGs as a potential mode of story-telling, an alternative to book, film, or television? Why or why not? - Absolutely I agree. If a game has a large world with detailed history and well designed races/classes, it allows players to create their own stories. It is sort of like interactive fan-fiction. Also, if a game has a great story, why canât it be compared to a book? Well written games need talented writers to come up with storylines, histories, and characters. In a sense, video games (MMORPGs and others) could arguably be the modern alternative to an illustrated novel. 12) What environments do you enjoy experiencing in MMORPGs? Why do you enjoy those particular kinds? a) Fantasy worlds b) Science fiction worlds c) Contemporary realistic worlds d) Historical worlds e) Frightening/ horrific worlds I love good stories of all kinds. Setting doesnât matter much to me, it is what the designers have done with it. Traditionally, with books, I am drawn to high fantasy, but I also love sci-fi and gothic horror. The same can be said about films and games. On a side note, I would love to see a well done steampunk or gothic horror MMORPG. 13) Do you role-play in game? a) Yes 14) Does your in-game avatar represent you in real life, either in physical appearance, personality, conversation, or other actions? Why or why not? - Yes and no. I tend to play a variety of characters, many of whom resemble me in some regard, but sometimes I enjoy challenging myself by roleplaying a character that is totally different from me. 15) Do you play MMORPGs to avoid/cope with problems in real life (i.e. school procrastination, illness, marital problems, etc)? c) Sometimes 16) Do you believe that MMORPGs can serve an escapist function, that is, a coping mechanism for real life stress, boredom, etc? Why or why not? - Yes, that is one of the things about them that is most appealing. Some people enjoy getting lost in books or music. I do as well, but my preferred method of escapism is video games. 17) What do you believe is the future of MMORPGs? Please elaborate. - Bigger, more realistic worlds as well as more realistic and customizable characters are coming, it is just a matter of overcoming limitations in the technology. Also, I think there are settings/story genres that are woefully under-represented in the world of MMORPGs. I believe that it is just a matter of time before we start to see a shift away from the traditional high fantasy setting.
  5. I know none you folks spend time out Mysidia way, but if you do you can find me round Limsa. It's no secret I frequent the forges and Drowning Wrench, although the pirates keep a decent bar too. I don't much like to spend more time on ships than needed, but if it means meetin folks, well, I could make an exception.
  6. Ha! First time I see one of you shorties actually look tough! You're really an amazing artist.
  7. Something bout your work... you heard of a little outfit called Megatokyo? Artist over there, goes by Piro, you're art kinda reminded me of some of his stuff. If you don't know it, let me say I mean that as a compliment as I always loved the look of his work same way as I'm lovin yours. Yeah... I hope that came out at least half right. Bottom line kid, you got some serious talent!
  8. Aw now don't let my bullheaded ways get you down. You did the smart move far as I see it. I got a few pals holding me where I am. If I could get em to shift to Besaid I'd be there by now. As is, I'm fighting to make Mysidia the new home for more us roleplay types. ((hey the talk like I'm IC is easier than I thought it would be. I see why Eternal does it. It's fun ))
  9. Every day, in some little way, I find somethin round here that makes me think I should be catching the next boat out of Mysidia to Besaid. Your drawings are stunnin Kir. I'm not ready to throw the fight yet though!
  10. Lookin good there Eternal. I can't say I know you cept for what I seen round here, but I'd go ahead and say that little banner suits you, being that its all pretty and dark like you seem to be. ((I've decided to try and adopt your style of being IC on the boards. I never get any RP, so might as well let Ghunzyr out to play here We'll see how long it lasts))
  11. Mysidia is so bad most of the time, I seriously considered rerolling on Besaid, but I have RL friends on Mysidia who would be upset at me. I decided to make the best of it and started my own RP LS. No one talks to me still, but maybe if I put myself out there more I'll find the secret entrance to Mysidia's RP underground. Maybe it's my playtimes, but I'm not sure. I played more in OB but it was the same there regardless of what server my friends and I tried. Bottom line, I've been horribly dissapointed by the whole in-game community in general.
  12. That was awesome, moreso because my partner was horrified. She loves that Axe ad
