1. A few questions: Which character archtypes do your males typically channel? Is there a specific dynamic that you want to achieve with your long-term partner? Such as family cohesion, arch nemesis, rival, romantic entwining, or just someone to be able to log in with and say, "Let's go hit up a tavern together!" What aspect of RP do you enjoy most? Tell us about the characters that you already have for this server, and give us a few ideas on to what unique dynamic they can offer already established characters. Welcome back!
2. Welcome back! Glad to see you were already out and about, RPing in public. And to have a chance to be stared at disdainfully for causing public ruckus outside of the tavern tonight.
3. I've always assumed when people pre-arrange on MMOs, they're looking for leads vs. trying to find a set-in-stone partner from the get go, such as would be the case in a one-on-one setting via forums or messengers. Like, they would wait until they were in game with a scene prompt in mind, initiate it, and figure out how compatible they were from there. Is this not case? It seems to me like doing it this way, there is still enough of a random factor (as long as it's not assumed that the relationship will successfully be made) that the relationship could begin organically, since it's not much more manufactured than being set up with a potential hook-up at the bar by a friend. If they are looking for a manufactured, "We're already in a relationship, now let's kith," on the first scene, then I would suspect these people are simply more comfortable in somewhat of a sandboxed one-on-one setting. Or perhaps they have issues with control (EDIT: This is a major red flag in a potential RP partner), and they find a scenario most enjoyable when it follows a loosely laid plan. Or perhaps they're just used doing family-type RPs where you typically have to find people to play your immediate family members, etc. I also suspect that many requests such as these are by new characters, which is different from trying to push a fully developed character into the arms of another. 'Matured' characters seeking pre-arrangements online signals to me that they're either sandboxing, or that they're perhaps trying to navigate a range of sensitivities that they're trying to avoid triggering--something that is safely done by negotiating a scene beforehand. The assumption that it's shallow and a misdirected attempt to create a story is unfortunate; with my RL SO, pretty much the bulk of what we do with our one-one-one stories, and they're some of the most fulfilling situations I've ever had the pleasure of diving into.
4. Egads! Just tried it m'self, and yup, it doesn't work. I'm guessing people were sharing the trick around before Balmung became perma-locked vs. just eternally congested!
5. If you're reading this and you want to eventually create a character on Balmung, tonight might be your chance. I don't know if the trick still works, but within the first 3 or so minutes of servers coming back up after tonight's maintenance, you may be able to create a character on Balmung. It's handy to at least reserve your spot with, if you can manage it, and it will save you the fee of transferring a character there at a later date.
6. EDIT: Had a stupidly fun first scene with her. She's definitely worth picking up as a connection. Super nice and easy to talk to. :]
7. Character Summary Name: Eyrisunn Bleistyrwyn Apparent Age: Early 30's Build: Imposing Orientation: Doesn't matter the gender, so long as she is in control. Status: Unemployed. To be up front, Eyrisunn Bleistyrwyn is a contrarian and misanthrope. She's meant to be the gristle in one's meat, if not blatantly antagonistic. There are two loves in her life, one being the sound of cubed ice falling into a clean glass before a hard liquor is poured, and the second is the misery of others. Save for outright stupidity and naivety, few things prickle her skin quite like seeing others enjoying a conversation, public laughter, and other things that normal beings tend to find agreeable. Physically, she's large and imposing which makes her suitable to work that requires muscle. There's potential in a bodyguard or retainer position, but her demeanor would leave much to be wanted in that respect. Legalities of the job can easily be overlooked, provided that the pay is worth the risk. Form of payment is negotiable, and must be in some cases--money alone is not often worth it. RP Plans Because she is a new character, it's relatively easy to twine her into any ongoing character story. Perhaps she's the brute that found your flyer, and ripped it down so no one else could see it before she applied in person. Perhaps she's that not-friend that an acquaintance has heard of that might be perfect for that not-specific job. Perhaps she was paid to raise ruckus in your life. It depends on what you want for your character, whether that be an obstacle to overcome for development, or if you happen to like dealing with acerbic characters beneath your employ. Conflict is the primary drive for this character, and she seeks it with self-destructive fervor. She is arguably incapable of having relationships as thought of in the typical sense, but if developments on this front happen, then I'm open to it--provided that you, the player, can sanely handle it while staying appropriately disconnected from your RP persona. I'm looking to make numerous connections for this character. If it leads to her finding a "home" within a company or linkshell, then that's just a lovely bonus, isn't it? Hooks Mercenary for temp work, or long term. Mercenary sent to attack your character--outcomes completely negotiable, from serious consequences to both parties to outright hilarity. Escort service from one region to the next, or bodyguard work in general. Be the unfortunate soul that she decides to force drunken diatribe onto at the tavern. Insert your choice of conflict type here! OOC For my OOC self, I am generally easy-going! Affably phlegmatic and always open to exploring the realms of creativity with others. I dipped my toe into FFXIV once before, and here I am doing it again. My account is old, but for intents and purposes I'm a new player still within the learning phase. Mateus has a much larger population of RPers than I expected, and it is quite the pleasant surprise. The real thrill of MMO RP is public RP, for me. As such, I adore community events and will gladly join people in their dives to social spots on the grid. Too much private RP makes for a sandbox type feel, and I want my experience in FFXIV to be immersive and full. Let's make stories together. 8. I. Basic Info Characters: Catherine Lancaster Primary character: Only Catherine thus far! Linkshells: As of yet, none. Primary RP linkshell: Not applicable. II. RP Character Info Catherine Lancaster: To say that Catherine was born with a silver spoon in her mouth would be an invite to insult; it was a golden spoon and it was enchanted. The second daughter of a prosperous Hyur family, Catherine was reared early from her youth to be the product that she is today: a sullen aristocrat past her teenage years, robbed of her childhood, and possessed with an interest in the esoteric and all experiments malevolent. For all the experience she has gained in reading, Catherine has lead a sheltered life. It was only in her adamant break with her family ties that she was able to step outside in the world of Eorzea as an adventurer. The freedom she's encountered in her first baby steps as a greenhorn traveler has left her salivating at the mouth for more. Personality-wise, Catherine is a controlling and ambitious woman. She's phlegmatic in her approach to all things, most especially in social encounters. Any flare of charisma within her is all thanks to trained etiquette, because she possesses none of it naturally. Looking For: I want it all! An FC / LS to call home, enemies, frenemies, 'romantic' interests, familial ties, and last but not least, victims to soothe her predatory needs. III. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I want to say heavy. I really, really do, but there are those days where all I want to do is immerse myself in a game and whittle away at AI systems and general PVE content. After all, this is a new and budding account and I have quite the ways to go to making my character a reputable and solid figure within the world. Views on RP combat and injuries: It needs to be consensual, and above that, enjoyable for both parties to begin with. I prefer to use a browser based D&D die roller for blows, exchanges, and severity of injuries or a prearranged outcome to minimize drama. Actions have consequences, and if veritable injuries are sustained they should be played out afterward, without magically disappearing overnight. Scarification, mutilation, amputation and snuff are no exceptions--but for that matter, if a scuffle has the possibility of ending in either route, it should be thoroughly discussed beforehand in private. Views on IC romance: The chase is enjoyable. The thrill of sexual tension is intoxicating. Yet, Catherine is a character wholly incapable of romantic notions, so romance per se is an impossibility. To become her object of interest would be unfortunate. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Without it, there would be little to scene. Amorality and depravity are fine and good, but it can't all be about naughtiness, can it? Long-winded and intricate story arcs are what my characters thrive on, especially those that seem to enrich all the characters involved. To this extent, I would love to be involved in linkshells that specialize in making the world of Eorzea visceral and in movement through guild ran politics, plots, and at points, sheer villainy. On the notion of family ties, it would be of interest to me find Catherine an older, experienced brother. Taboo happens to be my favorite sort of play, and the idea of having an incestual relationship badly concealed on the surface in front of other adventuring friends amuses me. Views on lore: I won't lie, I'm still learning it--but I believe it's necessary for immersion. Lore sets the foundation, and without understanding the world and the environment, how can you make a character that meshes will within it? Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Not every player on a server is going to be an RPer. To respect that, I keep a firm boundary on when I'm IC and when I'm OOC. I use /em's to convey both actions and dialogue in paragraph style prose, and I leave say alone altogether. Tells may switch back and forth between OOC and IC depending on the context; unless we're privately messaging each other some risque sort of conversation unfit for public attention, or we're ICly whispering, then I generally use it as an OOC function. I'm uncomfortable with using linkshells as IC communication unless there are two linkshells specifically for OOC communication and IC communication. IV. Other Info Country: United States Timezone: Central Contact info: I prefer to be contacted in game through the mail system. It's simple, easy, and the best way to get my attention. 9. I. Basic Info Characters: Catherine Lancaster Primary character: Catherine Lancaster Linkshells: As of yet, none. Primary RP linkshell: Not applicable. II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): It largely depends on whether the going is good or not. If there are talented individuals available for play, then I will most certainly make myself available. And yet, there are those days when I wish to zone away and aimlessly combat with the game's AI. I believe in keeping a clear boundary between IC and OOC relations, and I prefer to clarify in advance for potential partners--yes, even when they are simply out in the open and I am the random walk up--that I'm about to interact with them ICly through tells. I would appreciate the same respect. Views on RP combat and injuries: A character's culmination of levels are relevant to their IC strength. Beyond that, I enjoy and welcome a throw down with any and all who would challenge my lowly newb ranking character. But there is a time and place for all things, and conflicts typically happen only with good reason in real environments. Injuries sustained combat are to be RP'd out until an appropriate passage of time has ticked away so that all wounds are healed; if it's the case of amputation or something more permanent... more snuff-like, then that is something to be discussed on a case-by-case basis in private. Views on IC romance: The chase is enjoyable and sexual tension is thrilling; however, this is a character who is solely incapable of fluffy wuffy lubble feelings. Any and all are welcomed, but it's a dark fate indeed for those who become the object of her interest. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): This really should be the bulk of anyone's experience, shouldn't it? Otherwise, any sort of romantic plot you've got boiling in your head (or pants) is going to be short lived, indeed. Getting involved with stories that are bigger than a few characters and being part of the side cast is what I live for in my MMO RPs. Views on lore: Basic knowledge of lore is needed to feel any type of immersion. I mean, that's rather the whole fun of playing within a world, isn't it? Adapting its lore, laws, physics, and what have you. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Tells and Say chat are to be utilized for RP, depending on the circumstance and depending on whether it's a private conversation between two whispering friends, or a more risque situation that would be impolite for general public. I would never use linkshell chat for RP, unless there is a specific and planned event for it to be used as such. III. Other Info Country: United States Timezone: Central Contact info: Need to get in contact with me? An in game letter is the surest and quickest way for a response!
