  1. I had often thought it was a rarity to see a seeker or keeper rper still be a part of their clan or tribe. While there are the exceptions, like the Hipparion's, I can now see why most miqo'te have gone off on their own to adventure. Being a nuhn or even a tia does make things a bit more restricted. I wonder if a male keeper has a bit more freedom as far as adventuring and making a name for themselves go. He wants more of an adventurer/mercenary character and I was interested in the tribal aspect of the race. I do believe we can meet in the middle, making their background full of tribal lore, but they are now a pair adventuring together, making their own way in life. Best of both worlds. Hopefully it doesn't sound too cliche. Something to think about at least! You all have definitely given us food for thought.
  2. Thank you so much for the replies! I very much agree that the "the Nunh gets all the women" mentality is a bad one. We certainly don't look at it that way. When we decided on miqo'te and the Wolf tribe it was because we both have a great respect for animals and wolves is one of our favorites. To me, the tribal mentality of the Seekers and Keepers reminded me a great deal of prides and packs and I have the feeling when we get around to defining our little tribe we might pull a bit from those ideals. I'm glad to here this. I have played characters in the past that had parents that were no longer living, dying in some tragic way. I do realize the Calamity definitely sets us up for such, but I didn't want the focus to be on lost parents or some other tragedy. Besides, having living family ties in ones background makes for interesting rp later on 8-) As far as the subject of Nuhns, I believe part of the reason he picked a Nuhn character is he was under the assumption that only the Nuhn's were allowed to have any kind of involvement, romantically or otherwise, with the females of the tribe. I hope I wouldn't be too far out of line to say that it is possible for a Nuhn to become attracted to someone specific, but they would still have to continue their duties to the tribe. As far as Tia's go, is it possible for them to also find such attractions? From my reading of the above linked thread as well as others, am I right to understand that there might be feelings between Tia's and another female, just as long as there are no children that come of it? We wanted our characters to have some kind of connection, what that is yet we are still figuring out. Hopefully some of these questions will help us to come up with some kind of meaningful connection between the two. On to the subject of adventurer and a nuhn, I very much agree with what all of you have said. It makes sense that the nuhn would need to stay with the tribe. I have seen that their are some nuhn rpers and I am curious how they handle such. Does the adventuring side not come into play in their rp or are these nuhns that have moved on from their tribe to an adventuring life? I would think that doing such would brand them an outcast or make them a tia as they have been defeated or replaced. Tia's certainly seem to have more freedom! I will continue to read up on anything I can fine and I do thank you all for your responses so far! I look forward to our continued discussion.
  3. Hey there! A friend and I decided to give a couple of seekers a try. Admittedly, I have played a Keeper in the past, but not a Seeker. This site has definitely been very helpful in learning what little bits of lore the devs have given us as well as the general consensus of how the RP community feels about Seekers. As we flesh out more of our story though, a couple questions popped into my head that I was unsure on the answers. First of all, our characters are part of the Wolf Tribe. We were curious to find out if there were any other wolf tribe rpers out there Secondly, I know there are many that have their miqo'te either not part of a tribe or having moved on to adventuring. I like the tribal (Seekers) and family (Keepers) aspect of the miqo'te and so I have been working with my friend to flesh out our background possibly involving their tribe. He has decided to play a nuhn. One question that arose when reading through some of the lore, is a nuhn's only job to be a breeding male? I would assume that he helps to support the tribe as well, but my friend wondered how being a nuhn would effect being an adventurer. His thoughts were that the nuhn would need to stay with the tribe, considering his role within said tribe. We had the thought of having it a be a large enough tribe that their are possibly two nuhns, which I have read is possible. Perhaps having two nuhns makes it easier for one to go off and do some adventuring? How do those that go with the tribal rp go about explaining their absent from the tribe? As for myself, I was curious about when a Tia challenges a Nuhn. I have read that if a Nuhn is defeated, if he survives, he becomes a Tia while the other becomes Nuhn. Is it common for one to perish in these challenges? While W'aisha's father was a Nuhn at the time she was born, I didn't figure that he would still be one at this point. I didn't want to kill him off in the Calamity either. Would her father still being alive and being a Tia make sense? Lastly, as far as romances go, I know that the Keepers are more often likely to form attachments. I don't assume that it is impossible for a Seeker to form similar attachments, but how would they handle such? Mating seems like it would be out of the question unless the Tia decided to venture out on his own and form his own tribe, but from what I have read, that isn't a terribly easy prospect. How do Seekers handle romance? I know it may seem that I am focusing on a certain part of the Seeker culture that has at times sparked a heated discussion, but it isn't my only focus. I have read a lot of what has been discussed on the forums here and know there is so much more to them. These are just the only areas that I really have any confusions with.
  4. Oh my.....*fans self* Yes, we must have more hot highlander pics please...
  5. I'd love to entwine my story with anyone else that would like. My character is actually Elezen, so obviously not born Garlean. There was an incident with an artifact that placed my character in a precarious position and now she is siding with the Garleans. If anyone is interested in learning more, just let me know. Otherwise, just having some other Garlean's to rp with is a bonus. And I'd love to learn more about the episodic Garlean event. I'd definitely take an invite to the LS. Character's name is Alyanissa Devereux.
  6. I made a Garlean character a couple weeks ago as the protagonist character in my friends story, however I am finding I enjoy playing her quite a bit. I have actually found myself spending more time on her than on Willow lately. I think I may just have to add her to the directory and LS Feel free to look me up in game when you get to Balmung. That goes for others as well, feel free to say hello! Welcome to Balmung, Cranechild!
  7. I know I'm not involved in anything at present with your character, but I still wanted to take the time to let you know my thoughts are with you. I think there are many here that can relate in one way or another and I am sure those you rp with will understand. It is awesome you were able to be there for her.
  8. Depends on if you are playing a Seeker of the Sun or Keeper of the Moon. They have different naming conventions. Seekers add a letter at the beginning, depending on the tribe they are a part of. So it could be something as simple as him dropping that first letter and going by Rakiba, or he is part of the Raptor tribe and his name is R'akiba. If a Keeper, you have a bit more freedom. The males add a letter to the end of their names denoting their birth order. So for the name you picked, you could do Rakib'a. He'd be the first born son of his tribe. So really, your name works for either. Of course, if your character completely wants to separate himself from his tribe and take a whole new name, anything works. I think Rakiba is a great name and both names you mentioned as a last name go well with it.
  9. I also played a fair amount of MUDs, MUCKs, and IRC. That is actually were I started rping. Rping in MMO's isn't that much different other than you have a visual view of the world around you to draw from instead of having to describe the world around you to set the scene. I think you'll find rping in MMO's quite enjoyable. I think you have a great character concept. Sometimes the simplest beginnings turn into epic stories. I look forward to learning more about him! And welcome to the community
  10. *shows age* "Jenny Jenny, who can I turn to..." Though it had been out for a years by the time I hit high school, my friends use to enjoy teasing me with that song, since I went by Jenny back then. It was all in good fun, of course. Good song
  11. The Crafting 101 This is a few months old, but it does have a lot of information in it that I refer to frequently. Towards the ends, someone posts about the benefits of leveling a few of the crafting classes up to 15 for the benefit of the cross class skill. Basically, getting those cross class skills will make it so you are more likely to get HQ items out of it. While many of the classes are beneficial, there are a few that are more important than others, so you certainly don't have to do them all. It can be efficient to do them all on one, but I understand your reasoning for not wanting to. I have a couple characters myself and would prefer to not do them all on one character. One thing I will mention is, you mentioned moving things between characters. Sadly, we aren't able to do that. No mailing between our own characters. Unless you have someone that you trust to transfer items to your character, or have them both in the same Free Company and transfer items via the FC chest, we aren't able to move things between our own characters at this time. Hope the link helps you to find an arrangement for your characters you are happy with!
  12. They do open up at different parts of the day. I have found that weekday mornings before 11am PST are good times to make a character on Balmung. For Gilgamesh, you can go a bit later into the early afternoon before it fills up or late at night after midnight PST there will be less people on and you can make a character. I play on both servers so I have experienced the difficulty making new characters on these two servers. Just hang in there and watch the Lodestone. They are pretty good about listing when they have released character creation limits. FFXIV Lodestone
  13. It was more a question of what to wear. I'd prefer to bring the Roe too. I know there was formal wear in this last patch, but I figured it was more for the people at higher levels.
  14. This may not be the best place to ask this, but it sort of applies to the event in questions. I am very much looking forward to this event, though I'm unsure if I am going to come on my Miqo'te or my Roe. The higher of the 2 is 30. Is there anything anyone would suggest that would look formal enough for an event like this in that level range?
  15. Sorry for the delay in answers! Preping for the preschoolers birthday party this weekend kept me away from the computer today. I don't mind playing the larger races at all. Case in point, I am considering making a female highlander or Duskwight Elezen as well. So far, however, I am really enjoying the Roe. Now to get some rp going with her! *meets N'yxa and Kage half way, kneeling to give them each a high five*
  16. Oh my....*melts* No fair using that against me! Ok, you twisted my arm. I'll rp with you. hehe *bumps fists with Steel Wolf* Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! And I would have to agree, Roe's are hot. I'll do my best to look for you all in game. Not sure which server to pick so I'll probably play a bit on both of them.
  17. I just found your site recently and being a new FFXIV, I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm looking forward to meeting new people here and jumping into the roleplay with you all. I'm unsure of which server to start on, so I made a version of Arenswys on both Balmung and Gilgamesh. I guess it will depend on where I find the roleplay. Anywho! Here's a bit about me! Enjoy! --MMORPG background - I've played many an MMO over the last 12 years and roleplayed through each them, starting with EQ1. A few of the titles I have played are EQ1 & 2, Guild Wars 1 & 2, WoW, Rift and several others. As far as Final Fantasy goes, while I admit I haven't played every title I have played a few of them, including FFXI. --RP experience - My first mmo roleplay experience was in EQ1. I enjoyed the game and the guild I was a part of, but I started to grow bored. That is when I noticed there was roleplay server. Having roleplayed in several text based games, I was no stranger to roleplaying, so I thought I'd give it one more chance. I was instantly addicted. It was a perfect blending of two things I enjoyed. I wouldn't play a MMO any other way now. When I create a character, I'm usually thinking about their background while on the character creation screen. --Character ideas/info - I'm still pretty new to the FFXIV lore, but I'm learning. I enjoy the lore in games and tend to absorb it like a sponge. I've decide to start out with a female Roegadyn, as there seems to be a distinct lack of them. What can I say, I enjoy playing the less popular combinations. She is a Sea Wolf living in Limsa Lominsa. I'm still fleshing out her background and welcome any help with lore or roleplay in general. I'm open to family relations as well, so if there is anyone that might want a sister, cousin, aunt, etc. feel free to contact me. --How did you learn about the coalition? - By doing a search for "roleplay" and "FFXIV". You all were at the top of the list. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? - I am a heavy roleplayer and enjoy doing most things, including hunting, in character. Most groups I have been in though like to keep things ooc when hunting and I am cool with that. I'm pretty easy going in that regard. These games are about having fun after all. --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) - I'm currently a stay at home mom taking care of a preschooler. She takes up quite a bit of my daytime hours, but I still get a chance to get online sporadically (ie. nap times, etc.). I also have 2 teenage boys. Being a mom of 2 boys and a gamer, I know more than I probably want to know about Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonballz, etc. I enjoy drawing, though I am very rusty. I enjoy writing, though I am my own worse critic. I'm pretty easy to get along with and enjoy meeting new people. I can sometimes be a bit shy about breaking the ice initially, but once I get going the shyness instantly goes away. I enjoy helping people, both in real life and in MMO's. I love the fantasy genre as well as scifi. My favorite movie is Princess Bride... ...I should probably stop now or you'll know my whole life story.
