  1. I'm in. CHARACTER NAME: M'hatya Petih OCCUPATION: Sellsword, general handyperson I WILL BE JOINING IN AN: IC capacity
  2. I was RPing with a friend up at the hot springs in La Noscea and happened to be near another couple. When they got up, my first thought was I hope that they weren't bothered by our proximity to them. We continued our RP only to have one of the couple walk up and offer us pieces of a cake that they had received via a messenger. We accepted, of course, when he opens up a trade window and gives me a starlight cake without asking anything in return. Afterward, he wished us well with an OOC "Happy Valentione's Day!" It seems small in comparison to some of the acts listed, but it really helped make my day. Having recently returned to game from an enforced break, that simple act made me feel incredibly welcome.
  3. Noooo! LotRO was the first MMO where I actually RPed with a game's community. It wasn't the best game by any means, but the people there helped me get my footing in a whole new world. Depending on how far this thread goes, maybe we can resurrect the daily coffee shop threads here. I'm sure there's at least a couple other ex-Landrovalians who may enjoy it, and having (another) place where we can go all random would be pretty cool.
  4. I loved the coffee house threads back when I played LotRO. There were a great bunch of people who'd post random things all day and usually just be cool to everyone. Anyone know if they still make those daily threads?
  5. Can I ask where you're looking for people? I happened to find an FC that sort of fit my characters by wandering around Ul'dah, hanging out in the Quicksand and looking at the FC profiles of people who were RPing. If I found one that I was really interested in, I found a way to butt into whatever they were doing (once I got over my crippling shyness, that is). With that said, maybe Rose is right and a LS would be more your style. The idea of the LS seems to be all about the openness of RP.
  6. I. Basic Info Characters:Haruka Hachisai Primary character:Haruka Hachisai Linkshells: Primary RP linkshell: II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Somewhere between medium and heavy. I’m in-character most of the time if I’m around Ul’dah or Thanalan, and if I’m caught in the world leveling, I’ll usually answer an IC comment or question. Rarely, I’m just flatly OOC, usually if I’m tired because spelling and vocabulary become challenging when the brain decides to quit for the night. Views on RP combat and injuries: Preferably without rolls, but I’m flexible. Straight RP combat allows the strengths of the involved characters to come out, but I can understand the problem of competition. As for injuries, they happen; no one is immune to being hurt and Haruka will no different. As long as fair is fair, I think it should be up to the player of the character who suffers the injury to determine the extent of it. As for character death, let’s leave that off the table unless previously discussed. Views on IC romance: I’m open to romance (I have a bit of a weakness for it, actually) as long as the RP is not strictly romantic in nature. Variety is the spice of life, and I dislike focusing too much on romance while forsaking adventure and excitement. I also prefer romantic entanglements to develop at a natural pace that fits the nature of relationships. If there is a romance, all I ask is it’s kept IC; OOC drama is a no-no. Haruka is a lesbian, so understanding individuals are preferred. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I’m up for this. If you’ve got an idea, let’s talk about it. Views on lore: I pray at the temple of the Lore God, but do not proselytize. I’ll admit that I’m not exactly an encyclopedia of trivia concerning FFXIV, and even if I was, it’s not my place to lay down the hammer on someone who’s breaking lore. With that said, I do prefer lore-abiding RP and request others correct me if I get something glaringly wrong; the last thing I want to do is ruin someone’s immersion with my mistake. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Simple: /s is IC; /t is typically IC if within hearing range of a person, unless otherwise agreed upon; /p is up to the group I’m with but usually OOC; otherwise, most other things are OOC. These are the normal conventions, yes? III. Other Info Country:US Timezone:PST Contact info:Contact me in-game or here on the forums; I usually check my account here daily. 7. Such good ideas so far. For myself, when I have a problem finding the desire to RP or getting inspiration for writing, I find freewriting to be helpful. Just find a prompt that piques your interest, generate a random name, and start writing. Don't edit, don't rewrite, just let it flow. Sometimes some of the best idea come from random brain vomit.
  8. We have another M-tribeswoman in our midst?!? Woo! Welcome to the RPC! I think you'll find that the people here are super friendly; I'm still new and have had a little interaction with them, but they've all been awesome. Now, I go hide from spiders. *ducks out of sight*
  9. Thank you for the warm welcome. I'll be sure to check out the both the LS/FC forum and the events while I cruise around the landscape. From what I've seen so far, the folks around here are pretty laid back people, and I'm looking forward to talking with you all.
  10. Hello everyone! I've been lurking for a little while now, trying to figure out how best to show my face. After trying to find some RP in game and realizing that maybe I may have more success if I actually, you know, talk to people, I thought it'd be best if I just jump in. So here you go: MMORPG Background I've been playing MMORPGs off and on for about 5 or 6 years now. I began with WoW, but jumped to DDO, LotRO, TSW, GW1 and 2. I've been playing FFXIV for about a month and a half now, and that itch to get my roleplay on is starting to make me twitch, thus leading me to... RP Experience LotRO was my first real experience with MMO RP, but I've been playing table-top games for years. Once I left my minstrel behind, I RPed actively in WoW and GW2. Most of my RP experience has been in WoW, and I've been wanting to get away into a game that better fits my taste. With all that out of the way, I still consider myself very much the beginner. While I've managed to play a single character for a couple years straight in another game, I just don't have as much experience with group RP or the more adventure-aligned play as I would like. Hopefully, I can expand my horizons a little here. Character Info My main is M'hatya Petih, a Miqo'te Sunseeker on Balmung. A lancer in training, she feels the need to hide among the throngs of Ul'dah while taking odd jobs to advance her skill in the art. I've also got a Hyur named Lisbet Ronsenburg, an arcanist that, if developed, will be from Ishgard. How did you learn about the coalition? A single search looking for FFXIV RP. Turns out my amateur google-fu has guided me to the right place. What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? I suppose I'm what you'd call a medium or heavy roleplayer: I enjoy delving into the lore and seeing what others can create from it, and I really don't enjoy play that completely ignores the world we all occupy. Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? I'm a writer, though you'll likely not find anything I write online, and I'm not published (yet).
