1. Great thoughts, they make a lot of sense. So from what I understand the majority needs a grimoire to draw their geometries, and the grimoire is essentially a collection of individual pages-- like any book. So an arcanist could take a page from their grimoire and write on it then use it like they would their grimoire. Finally, I believe that an arcanist should be able to inscribe a geometry in this manner, fold it up, tuck it away somewhere, and be able to use it in a pinch later. What say you on this? Personally I love the idea of whipping out a piece of paper from your pocket and bam! Magic.
2. I've had this happen to me twice, once in GW2 where what was supposed to be a temporary alt ended up being my main roleplaying character for over a year. Recently in FFXXIV I've been giving my catboy a lot more attention than my Roegadyn. feel kind of guilty about it since there's so few Roes around.
3. My character Shiv'to Vodha is signing up! Airship pilot for Maelstrom, Sergeant Third Class Lives in Limsa Lominsa Good shot with a pistol Dabbles in arcany An intellectual This looks so exciting!
4. Personal Profile Character Name: Shiv'to Vodha Gender: Male Race: Mi'qote, Keeper of the Moon Domestic Profile Civil Status: Immigrated resident Place of Residence: Maelstrom Command Occupation: Maelstrom airship pilot Free Company: VOIX Social Profile Shiv'to has flown for Maelstrom for eight years and currently holds the rank of Sergeant Third Class. He has never disobeyed an order, and follows procedure to the letter. Shiv has a reputation for being a polite, professional, and punctual pilot. There are some grumblings that he rubs elbows with the command staff too much. However his good relationships have guaranteed himself quarters in Maelstrom Command, and certain special privileges. Shiv has trouble empathizing with other people, and seldom offers information about himself besides his profession. This has never interfered with his work, but it can make some people feel uncomfortable. Most of his relationships are professional, though he does keep a few friends. On the side he is an arcanist, which comes in handy for checking crates on his airship. Usually when off duty he can be found at a tavern with a bottle of red wine, which one depends on where he is scheduled to make port for the night. A quick way to get on his good side is to buy him a drink, who doesn't like free drinks? Meta Profile I'm a pretty heavy roleplayer, most of my time in game is spent roleplaying. I'm usually available in the evenings, so around 7:00-10:00 PM EST. Shiv'to is very much a new kind of character for me, because it's the first time I've tried playing a bad character. On the surface it seems like he's a goody two shoes, but in reality he has no morals. So be forewarned, he has the potential to turn nasty in an instant. Obviously if he will attempt to cause harm to your character (unlikely, he's not stupid) I'll ask in /tell first.
5. I'd love to be a part of this, it sounds like a lot of good dark fun. I actually have a character that could work as a villain if need be. If you don't need a villain though I offer my old Roegadyn Monk as a member.
6. In Guild Wars 2 I used to combat RP a fair bit and I never got negative feedback about it. Sorry to hear that you did. If healthy OOC communication is taking place during the combat, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with combat RP. I have a criminal character that does combat, feel free to send a tell to Hardy Boulder and we can work something out if you need another.
7. I played as a member of law enforcement in Guild Wars 2 for about a year. We were thankful to be part of a community that generally accepted us. We had an unofficial motto that "we only have as much power as he community gives us." Meaning that for anything where we would be interrupting an RP scene, we would first ask for OOC consent. Usually the players were happy to let us intervene, but when they weren't we backed off. Simple as that. Same goes for arrest. Ask OOCly first, then go ahead ICly. OOC communication between both parties is key. Of course there were some members of the community that would constantly commit crimes and not recognize our IC "authority". That's fine. We had a list of players that didn't recognize us and didn't try law enforcement RP with them. Now I'm not going to say that our system was perfect, some people got pushed the wrong way and our upper leadership structure was corrupt. But it worked, and most seemed happy. Law enforcement RP works as long as both parties understand the value of OOC communication, and the law enforcers understand they have no real power. I know, I have a year of experience with it.
8. This is a great idea! I'll be asking for an invite next time I'm in game
9. Eorza is a by big, broad, magical place. A colour changing mood mask is definitely possible, perhaps it interacts with ones aether? Also you don't have to have an IC explanation for why it does what it does. Your character could have just found the mood mask in a crypt somewhere. Plus it's a fun thing to see other characters hypothosize how it works, and someone might even come up with an explanation good enough that you'll roll with it!
10. My username is Atlas and I've been lurking around for a couple months, soaking up all the wonderful discussions and lore. Finally decided to show myself and to contribute in turn. Some of you may have seen my character Hardy Boulder being security at the Couerl's Whisker. A bit about myself-- following the template here. I started off in Aion, moved to SWTOR for a bit, then settled down in GW2 for a little over a year until I moved to FFXIV around two months ago. I was introduced to roleplaying in Aion but didn't start seriously until GW2, where I ended up as an officer in one of the law enforcement guilds. I learned about this wonderful site through the magic of google. I'm aiming to be a medium roleplayer; although I love RP this game is good enough that I want time for duties and quests. I'm currently a student about to start my last year of high school. Finally for hobbies I enjoy playing my french horn and trombone in my local orchestra and school bands. Oh my I really went on. Thank you for reading, from what I've seen you guys are a fantastic community, can't wait to RP with you all!
