  1. Echo, in my own opinon, is part of FF 14's universe, so it can not easily be forgotten when writing out characters and events. I believe it is a tool, and like any tool, it may have its own deft touch to get it to work correctly. The difference, however, seems to lie in the fact that it is considerably more touchy. The difference between surgery and stacking boxes.
  2. Im both pleased and disappointed by this, as I think Tanaka did well in some aspects that may or may not be completely overlooked by "The Young Blood". I have to agree it wasn't entirely his fault that this game was not the polished gem expected of a Final Fantasy. (perhaps even over expected?) That, and the PS3 release, which I have been raving about, is going to be delayed? Hopefully just to late march >.> but that's unlikely. Still if the game is simply that much more polished upon release, and its currently free to play, I guess I have no reason to complain really. Ultimately, more time to work on my character, I suppose.
  3. I rather like your new one Popo, less "cutesy" than some of your others. Then again, the cutesy stuff is what I liked.. so maybe I dunno what im saying, freind!
  4. Haha, im not even roleplaying yet, but I still would be very interested in your new character, if you want to send me a message. Im curious what the communities characters are like. (Expecially as its a great way to compare my own. My insane mithra/miqot'e idea has yet to have any replies) Curiosity, killed the Miqot'e :cat:
  5. Here here mate! The "Worst MMO EVER" was a bit out of line haha. Anyone play Flyff? I went to FF 11 to get a break from that games grind and repetition.... (though the game was pretty cute, there was almost NOTHING to do) I do agree that there is little content, but I think most people were concerned about just playing the game, let alone trying to get involved with its world. Now, however, they fixed many of the complaints (and will continue to adjust these fixes as time goes on, im sure) people are going to reach caps quickly. (There was one that was posting level rank 44 on a Discipline of War Job, and said someone else of a similar rank was with them) which makes lack of content a dangerous thing to have. Also have heard you can't go to Ishgard... cutting off exploration SE, for shame. I joined in on FF 11 late (my second retry though, I did play pretty far earlier) and I had things to look forward too when I did so. Aht Urgan missions, (and later Campaign and dealing with the past), and the many many cut scenes that they used for everything it seemed. (get a new job? CUT SCENES). It actual makes me a bit sad that the Levies got away from that... as I rather enjoyed all the fun story scenes. It kept me rather interested in playing. (Especially when combined with a mature fun loving community) I do worry that FF 14 might not get this in time. However, im a PS3 player, so i'll probably be just fine! So now that we are on the subject of content. Lets talk about what will be added. Thus far we've heard about company ships/buildings, possible attacks on camps, NMs (which drop gear, so you don't have to craft everything),new items/item recipes, and very importantly, a SEARCH function for goods in the Wards. (According to "The Lodestone" this will make a icon display above the heads of everyone who is selling the item you requested. Its no AH, but if it does what its supposed to I think its alright) They were also pretty secretive on stuff, but this is mostly stuff I heard about for December and not the early 2011 update.
  6. Excellent points really, Freelance, and I do agree as a whole. Still I have considerable faith that things will be added, just because looking at almost every MMO on the market, the first year is rather tough on content. I mean, the fact that SE has been posting information about new content is a wonder to me, this early in the game. Until after December though, there is no way to tell what the effect is. Especially if you think about the fact that there will be anouther huge update (they said every three months) a bit before or after the PS3 people join in. The reviews on this game were harsh though, I definitely agree with ya. Scathing is a understatement as many were boldly declaring that it was "The Worst MMO Ever Made". Still most of the reviews I read didn't even talk about lack of content, but commented very highly on the UI lag....
  7. Haha, Popolink, I love these. They have something of a "Fairy Tale Picture Book" style to them, which gives them a very "fun" character. I hope to see more soonish.
  8. Yeah of course! haha, see told ya I was gullible. Though I think it would have worked like "Insert FF 14 disc" and just lead you to that page, but you can access it from the Mog House as sorta a "added bonus" perhaps? Still, the rumors merit only goes as far as what someone heard from someone else, so no dwelling on it.
  9. In all fairness, most of the complaints I saw (Im not in the game, so much of time is spent glancing through forums, either for some of the cute short stories that appear, or some comment that interests me about the game) was about the trouble with gameplay mechanics, rather than lack of content. (though lack of content was still a major concern) In my own opinion, these fixes makes people FAR more liable to wait till more content is added. Those who are logging in and out checking on the games progress will be pleased to see all the changes to make the game much smoother. This in-turn will make the community better, and if the community is good... We also got some news of December Updates, I read something on the Lodestone about defending camps or something like that (sounds like a fun little event to me) and NMs as well as added levies (which may add a little bit more diversity, but I am not holding my breath). If the detail is as focused as this update... well. So to sum it up, I think this is a good first step (and only a first step). It makes us players feel good about whats to come, and that will help inspire others to join us. If there is only a few posts that say "THIS GAME SUCKS" and more that state "HELL YEAH I MADE IT TO RANK 20!" I think the game will grow. Slowly, yes, but it shall.
  10. From what I have read on the "Lodestone", it seems that the community is speaking very highly about these updates. There have been a wide range of simple "HELL YEAHS", for the most part. The community as a whole seems to feel very strongly about this update, in a positive manner! There has been some complaints though, a host of new "Errors" and game crashes, problems with SP (but also the argument has been made several times by others that SP is just fine now), losing SP (because they have lowered the requirements for ranks, some loose SP for your job disappears into nothingness, making that effort worthless. I believe the area I was speaking of was talking about a 55,000 loss). There was also a complaint that the sort function does not alphabetize your inventory. Overall, the community has been glowing with a radiant positive light, which may clear some of the darkness of a negative sort that has been setting the mood for the game for perhaps far too long. What do you guys think? Are these good first steps to regaining the trust of its consumer base? Or has this come too late?
  11. There was a interesting rumor that you guys might be interested in I heard from a freind that there seemed to be plans to make FF 14 accessible from the Mog House in Vanadiel, as a way to sorta connect the two games. However, I believe the idea was scrapped due to it being a technical nightmare, as well as the attempt to make Eorzea and its surrounding world much more unique. So if they weren't just pulling my leg, (which is likely, im gullible >.>) it would be a example of how SE tried to connect the worlds, and later chose not to. Still the similarities are quite strong, we still have no Manthra/Manqot'e, the Lalafell are still short (though I do not know if they still speak in rhymes), and overall it seems that much of the original culture are the same, (though more diverse, as we now have subdivisions of races) A bit off topic, but is anyone else noticing that Galka/Roaderyn and Miqot'e are getting much bigger roles than they did in Vanadiel? I remember that you could do Windurst's entire storyline, and only meet a few Mithra that had ANY significant importance on the story. Same goes for our Galka fellows. (I think even getting your jobs was almost entirely focused on Elven and Hume. Galka ones I know off the top of my head was the one for Puppeteer and Dark Knight, and the one for Ranger was mithra) Just a observation I had to note when I seen there was a main Miqot'e NPC for both the Ul'dah and Limsa storyline.
  12. Haha, I wanna scrounge up enough money for "Fallout: New Vegas" so i can get my fill before buying ff 14 in march. Some games would just eat up my time.
  13. Hail Almil! Glad to see your confident in staying in our beloved Eorzea, for she needs more souls to bring her lovely vision to life! I actually play the bi (though I generally lean towards lesbian) characters myself. Mostly cause it fits the personality of the character rather than my own interests. Unfortunately I won't be able to roleplay in game with you till March probably, but be that as It may perhaps I can assist you with character creation and other ideas. (my main strength is forum roleplaying after all!) If you need a simple chat, feel free to pm me! Good luck on your various adventures freind, -Don Miqot'e
  14. This is a interesting thread, and I'd like to offer a crazy, illogical idea onto which ingame time can be used for role playing purposes. Let us suppose, that in Eorzea, time is actually changing as fast as it suggests. Their universe could very well be Earth hour to Eorzea's Day. Then let us suppose that the people of Eorzea still age as us humans do. That means that even if a inhabitant of Eorzea is 24 days old, they are still only 1 earth day old. All this would simply mean would be a feat to multiple whatever time's suggested by 24. (this incorporates the hour to days ratio) For example, if the average life span of a character is 100 earth years, you could then multiply it by 24, coming up with a total of 2400 Eorzean years. (my math is off probably, but you get the idea) This means that your character still gets their wild birthdays (but make every Earth year playing something of a special event. Maybe Eorzea celebrates every 100 years or something, due to the shortened time in their universe). Here's the problems with the idea though, NPC characters will still address themselves as being X amount of years. You could possibly just multiply it to give a feel for Eorzea years perhaps, but it'd be a pain I know. (Example: 10 years in human time X 24= 240 Eorzea years. This means that the character is still within the suggested amount of years, nearly a tenth of being 100 or 2,400) I could be very wrong of course, but its a idea. Not a good one but not necessarily bad either, and one that has everyone winning, so to speak, and because Eorzea is not a real world, it could be very likely. The idea for this comes from my experience in "The Multiverse" styled roleplaying, in which one character actually goes from to different worlds with completely different rules than the ones we are used to. This is often used in "space" roleplays, when they talk about time they often say "Earth Days" because a planet simply has shorter or longer days than ours. So how do you measure it? Relating to what we know, which again is the rough ratio of about 1 Earth hour to 1 day Eorzea. Dislike? Like? Wanting to throw rotten vegetables? Lemme know!
  15. Good for you, Jinxsy! Maybe you won't be so far ahead of me once I get to visit Eorzea for myself. As it stands now im pawing at the screen asking when it is it my turn. On a lucky note i'll probably never experience half of the bugs everyone is talking about. Im really curious about the upcoming November patch though, as I think it'll make or break the current community for the next month.
  16. Haha fair enough but the bad movie versus the game revenue is rather different. Games they know how to market, and even a bad game still produces some income for them to be producing bold statements. I don't think they apologized for the movie, and they can't really "fix" a item like that. And if its happened once... What's to say they cannot recover again? Not saying their immune (or immortal), but I could see them doggedly holding on to 14. If they make a decent game out of it, they can see future profits as long as they can retain a certain number of players. On anouther note, they are screwed either way. If they close their servers, I believe they would lose a lot more money than simple bug fixes, maintenance, and adding content.(which is what everyone is asking for right?) The alternative is simply to make a brand new game, MMO or not. Which would cost all the production value that went into 14+ paying whatever compensation for all the consumers who have bought the game only to have it closed on them. Not even counting on any wasted money that comes from just halting the PS3 release of the game. Economically speaking, most companies go down because they ride a lot on one game, but SE is very diversified and despite its losses, it has the resources to "fix" this. Most gaming companies could not afford to even consider selling their game at a lower cost or providing people free service, but SE has in hopes of correcting their mistake, basically following the saying "You gotta spend money to make money" A more important question to me though, is whether even if the game is successful, will they recover? SE seems to think so with all this hurried "Damage Control" tactics. But this is all pure speculation! Only time can tell whether 14 will be great, moderate, adequate, or even a waste of our time. On the note of WoW, getting down to the nitty gritty is that WoW is selling still, and 14 is bleeding dollar bills. While im not a huge fan of WoW, I have to give it credit that is quite literally "Drinking Money". Whether we say one is better than the other is a matter of opinion (For example, in the world of candy Mass Produced candy usually brings in more income than Gourmet, but everyone agrees that the Gourmet types generally taste a lot better. However when you can pay .77 USD over a expensive 2-3 USD candy bar.... well there is a definite bang for your buck lol). EDIT: I also apologize.. it seems that maybe this thread has gotten off its topic a bit. My main thoughts for the population decrease is simply that the game could have used a lot more development time to perform all the tweaks they are fixing in the November/December patches. No body wants to play a broken game, no matter the potential, but on the good news most forums I see that people are saying they are leaving are very open the possibility of returning if things improve. Many people definitely say that Eorzea is something special, that the game has potential for fun, and we must remember that here now, we are sitting here discussing it while most of us are.. well.. playing the game! I think if some of the negative energy moves away from 14, the game has hope.
  17. I think in fairness, 14 is attempting something unique and with that comes a new range of expectations in its player base. To be honest, one of the number one complaints I have heard on forums is simply "Did Not Meet Expectations". Simply put, people weren't blown away with what was there, and the bugs were so numerous at launch that it made many players, even veteran Final Fantasy 11 players, gained a sense of irritation instead of simply enjoying the game. On review websites, most of the complaints seemed to be very "bug" related, further causing potential players to hold off. Speaking from myself, as I am one of those who is not yet playing the game yet and can possibly offer how it looks from a outsider's point of view. Low scores and a very negative feedback from the community as a whole, has really made me wonder if the game is worth getting. Despite all this though, people gained a whole extra free months play. SE has promised numerous bug fixes with specific dates (and large patches every 3 months after which, which means they will have one more probably JUST before the PS3 release). A press conference it was stated that SE's goal was regaining the buyers trust. All this suggests that SE, having the resources to fix the game, will be using them as such. To combine with that, we must remember Final Fantasy 11 did not give profits for a very long time after its release, (two years? three years? I can't remember) so im going to assume that SE is fully prepared to take a hit in this area, especially when after 10 years, Final Fantasy 11 has pulled in enough profit to make them willing to take a chance at anouther MMO entirely. So I am expecting that when SE fixes their product, everything will fall into place. It may not do well for several years, but in the end, they will probably regain buyer trust, and thus add to Eorzea's numbers out of sheer doggedness. Then again, I could be wrong! I have been many times before and will be many times in the future. As a outsider who has a bit of a faith though, and is willing to at least TRY the game before I give a opinion on it, this is how im thinkin'.
  18. Wow, im amazed that tough design for the Lallafell, but am further more impressed by how similar he looks to his "in-game" self! I think your artwork has a strong "emotion" style, you get a strong impression from the character just from a few pics. Makes me wonder why my hands only seem to create stick figures who need hospitals, and that is on the high end of my artistic abilities.
