  1. I ain't decided if one of JJ's sprouts had kids, highly doubtful, but JJ's one of those special snowflakes that's "old" and still kicking ass.
  2. JJ's straight. Wife died 20 years before ARR (somewhere near Ala Mihgo is my idea, whatever. I'll figure it out.). His twins are 33 and 38 (one's a time-jumper like JJ!). JJ was never effective with words and unless it is pretty blunt, flirting doesn't phase JJ. Actually, no turn-of-phrase works well with JJ as that he foils them. I recall a RP where someone asked of JJ was in "distress", partly because I'm a smartass and partly because JJ is silly, JJ replied "I'm not in a dress!". Since his youth, though, he knows when women are coming on to him. He'll still play the innocent boy, though, cause that's part of JJ: Silly bastard till someone needs to be bashed. (Wam, blam, straight to the moon!)
  3. The way the poll is worded not everyone has elaborate backstories with their NPCs. I personally would have to vote "No" but I support people that have these side characters to their mains. It adds depth to the mains in my opinion. I wrote my stuff in the way that my main didn't follow a lineage of any importance but another RPer's lineage may be important to understand their motives and whatnot. I am NOT voting either due to the way that this question is slanted. Not everyone has in-depth NPCs that they can write about. *plops a pinwheel into the dirt*
  4. JJ would drop 157 pinwheels, 1 pumpkin head, meat, wooden chair and a glockenspiel.
  5. TL; DR -- JJ, being modeled after past game JJ, is a dark knight pretty much. I would call JJ a berserker but he has an ability with the dark magics (drain, aspir, etc) yet not much of a magic pool to draw from. The longer JJ fights and gets hurt, the more relentless JJ gets (there's more to it than that). However, he does try to adapt to a situation if he can't just blast through it (like, fighting physical-resistant foes). He's got some ability with one-handed weapons and bows, but nothing award-winning. JJ's also one to throw his body in front of another, so you can call him a crappy paladin too, I guess. When fellow people described JJ's armor and weapon preference, they cited it as odd and not often seen (since dark knight isn't a job atm in XIV). His weapons are scythes or greatswords (and then great axes and other big sharp things, then to large bludgeoning weapons... aka the broad side of a greatsword! )
  6. JJ's rolling nomadic, he may have a place somewhere to store new stuff, most likely at his son's home, but being a widower and his children all grown up, and his home destroyed thanks to some large ass rock, JJ's rocking his vagabond shoes.
  7. TL;DR -- JJ = no allegiance! Again, assuming that JJ is my main, as JJ is JJ. I went with "none". Though I am still working on John's history, I got some pretty solid things down. He was born in Ala Mihgo some 57-60 years before the start of ARR JJ was "banish"/fled/left/accepted journeying outside of Ala Mihgo ~13-14 When he finally got hitched, I'm probably going to have written that he "settled down" in whatever nation his wife was living at (also a Highlander) When he disappeared ~35 years ago, he returned to Ala Mihgo with his wife and kids and "settled down" there until Ala Mihgo fell JJ then "settled down" near some small village up until a short time before Dalmund That place ended up obliterated, so, you know, JJ's rocking the beaten path again, and free.
  8. JJ is the kind of guy would give 10k to a begger and someone would comment "Wow! You must be rich!" JJ would reply: "Nope. That was the last gil I had. Time to go hunt dinner!" At times in the past, he's had a good bit of gil saved up that he used to fund his boy to school. Right out of the time-leap, JJ will probably have between 10-100k on him, but go right into camping and survivalism rather than a warm bed and meal.
  9. JJ - Highlander Male. Esquire, M.D. D.F.A.
  10. And I don't do windows. Deal with it. 8-)
  11. I. Basic Info[/b] Characters: John Spiegel, Alex Silversheath, Grace Silversheath Primary character: John Spiegel Linkshells: Crystalline Primary RP linkshell: Crystalline II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy. IC as much as possible. Views on RP combat and injuries: While combat and injuries are an inevitability, I do not condone someone coming up and just decapitating my character. Depending on the severity of the combat or intent of the attacker, I am not opposed to rolling with it to a point. I am cool with someone coming up and getting a cheap shot/cutting one of my characters but anything past that (broken bones, stabbing, etc), I would like to discuss that. In terms of combat, I don’t really have a solid rubric for that. While one of my characters (John) is a seasoned fighter, that doesn’t mean some nobody Miq’ote couldn’t use their agility and out-maneuver JJ or of that sort or JJ just gets his ass kicked. But I don’t condone straight up godmodding (*person turns into an invisible mist and summons Ragnarok*). I am a completely reasonable dude, just talk to me. Views on IC romance: I'm cool with it or whatever. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Let’s just talk that out! Views on lore: I prefer to stick to the lore as much as possible. When you can go from being dead to being an angelic vampire one week, to being a Roeg to a hyr another week, my BS flag rolls up. There may be areas that are allowable for interpretation, but no exaggeration is wanted. As for JJ, his beginnings are humble. Orphan/street kid turnedadventurer turned badass adventurer turned badass adventurer husband turned husband daddy badass adventurer turned widower daddy etc etc etc. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): For /say, it really is situational. I have memories of being mocked and crap then switching to /party. As for /linkshell, that should be straight up IC unless there’s dire need for OOC. If it happens on the pearl and is significant, you can’t prevent someone else on the pearl to try to get to that location and intervene (notice how I said try and location, not just magic warp stuff). Also, /party should be constrained to proximal actions and talk, not some sort of trans-nation magic RP room. If, for example, someone wished to snoop in on Alex and Eva having tea. Well, they would have to physically be close to hear and in the event heckling happens, a quick /tell saying you’re close and snooping would be cool and you’d be added to the party. III. Other Info Country: USA Timezone: UTC -6(Central Standard Time) Contact info: PM this RPC account or over on Crystalline. If you don’t get a response within a reasonable amount of time on the RPC, and aren’t on Crystalline, ask someone who is to poke me with a stick. Or in game! John Spiegel, Alex Silversheath or Grace Silversheath. They're all me.
  12. In my youth I did cop that surname from good ol' Spike. You could argue his tenacity as well, but JJ is far from being a Spike Spiegel. ICly move, no. In fall of 2008, the computer I played FFXI on took its final dive and I said "screw MMOs, I'm in college" and I didn't pick up a single giant ass game like it until I graduated in May 2012 (Diablo 3 then Borderlands 2, as well as picked up Fallout 3 and Skyrim, etc). The difference from FFXI and FFXIV lore is crazy, but to the core, JJ is the same. Just retconning some stuff and adapting some of JJ's backstory (and actually changing it. But I've not gotten to that at all). The JJ that will appear on Crystalline will be the same JJ to those that were around in old Crystalline time. Just, you know, older, (balder?) and balder. (Yes, I said it twice) Some of the old Crystalline (FFXI) folk have adapted their characters to FFXIV, choosing a 20-25 year leap (pre ARR) in time. Eva (originally Dyterium in XI) and Isilime (Hirilonde) aged their FFXI folk by that much and retconned stuff that didn't fit XIV lore, but their personalities and respective relations remained the same. It is my knowledge that Isilime (IC Oldman Hiri) kept the fate of various FFXI Crystalline folk ambiguious to allow future returners (such as myself) a bunch of room all the while keeping the memory of them there.
  13. --MMORPG background --RP experience --Character ideas/info --How did you learn about the coalition? --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? --Anything from real life youâre comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) MMORPG background I was a long-standing member of the FFXI incarnation of Crystalline on the Sylph Server. I roleplayed the enigma-of-a-man, John Spiegel. Character ideas/info I am going to be rolling on the FFXIV incarnation of Crystalline and will be bringing three characters to the table, one of which is fresh and has no sort of set path. 1. A smooth-talking Roeg that I will use as a catalyst to acustom myself to some minor details in the lore and whatnot. (Oh yeah, I never got to play FFXIV) 2. Alex Spiegel (JJ's son) 3. JJ himself! (Adapted to FFXIV, modeled after Eva and Isilime's aged original Crystalline members) How did you learn about the coalition? Eva hooked me up with it along with Crystalline. I pop on once in awhile. As that I am not at all involved in anything whatsoever, I frequent here very seldom as of late. What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Well this is kind of subjective in definition of "light", "medium" or "heavy". I am going to answer as if I was just rolling with JJ. With JJ, if anyone is familiar with him, he is usually very goofy but can turn to straight up bloodlust mode (exagerating, he doesn't drink blood). If bad things aren't happening, JJ is happy, if bad things ARE happening, JJ tends to be serious, if not defensive. Depending on his condition, he can be straight up battle lustful. You see, back in FFXI, JJ was a Dark Knight through and through. In combat, when he needed it, he used Dark Magic to absorb some strength from his opponets or even just straight up used his own darkness to do devastating damage. It's a struggle for him not to hurt those around him when he's tapping into his "darkness". Yeah, it sounds generic. It kind of is (I was what, 12-14 when I made JJ?, almost a freaking decade ago), but since creation, JJ has definitely become a multi-layered character. Very powerful, but by far not invincible. Dude's covered in scars, but just never gives up. There's a good account of the times he's had his ass handed to him (Islude blew JJ the hell up once, Snoll Tzar ate JJ after JJ did awesome damage to him (RP'd the CoP missions back in the day), a bunch of times JJ got his ass handed to him prior to joining Crystalline (JJ got his hair burned off, got tortured for a time, etc. JJ is by no means a "badass" character. He just doesn't quit, even if he has broken limbs..... I recently found out that a good analog would be Guts from the Berserk manga with respect to JJ's unrelenting and growing battle ability the more he is beaten. JJ does is NOT the father of some crazy half demon child thing that ages quickly. (didn't read the magna, but I read what happens after the anime, which is like the first and second arc of the manga >.>) --Anything from real life youâre comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) From 2008-2012, I was in college (hence my absence from FFXI/XIV RP in general). I chose to spread my wings and socialize and all that good stuff. Dicked off my first two years in chemistry, changed to geology and worked my ass off. I managed to take about 10-15 hours OVER the required amount of classes along with achieving to research grants to study engineering and geologic properties of paleosols (that's fossil soils). Graduated in May, still looking for a job in the geoscience field. I like to cook (and am quite good at it imo), collect rocks (mostly that I actually obtained myself), play harmonica and listen to music. If you count drinking booze as a hobby, throw that in there, I guess.
