Saxes are saxy! I feel your pain in wanting to PLAY ALL THE INSTRUMENTS! I'm going to expand to tinwhistle here eventually... I bought one, but there's soooo much I wanna learn on the harmonica first.

Family members who went away but you stayed behind.

I'm in the boat as well. JJ has two children. Twins. Alex didn't time skip, and I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with Grace. Oh yeah, JJ time skipped. Until we get more lore, I'm playing the "I forgot my father's (and sister's) name(s) and face(s)!" -

Anyone that participated in the battle and subsequently transported through time are dubbed "Warriors of Light" due to people not being able to remember the various adventurers (not just the stereotypical FMV adventurers), various claiming all they can see are silhouettes, unable to see the faces or remember the names of those who became lost to time. -
JJ!

John Spiegel -- Time Skipper (Edited out the bit during the battle. I took some liberty with the time-jumpyness. Forgive that ^^; ) And then... then there was light.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SMASH! John's momentum of his leap landed him face first into a giant tree. A brief recovery - by which he plinkered down smashing into branches as he fell and hit the ground with a muffled “thud” - of wiping blood off his face and some groans, John freezes. Surprised, shocked and scared that he was -just- surrounded by death but now surrounded by greenery and life. Snorting and spitting blood, he holds his sword at the ready. Suddenly, he hears a scream! A feminine voice shrieks "I-it's a monster!" John moves with a carnal vigor towards the voice, only to find nothing but an Elezen woman running from -him-. Being naked from the waist up, covered in his (and others’) blood and people bits and running around with a giant sword generally tends to have one seen in bad light. Well, this scream-a-thon did not set well with the local creatures of the deep Shroud. Suddenly, the trees themselves began to move. About a dozen treants, awoken from the cries of an unfortunate onlooker, began forming a large circle around John and the poor Elezen woman. Through his labored breath, John spoke up at the Elezen woman “Stay down lady!” Through events in his past, as well as just giving off this dark vibe, no wonder John has accumulated Woodsin. The Elementals no doubt saw John as a threat. Within a few minutes, John dispatched the treants. “Halt!” A voice orders from the trees. Wood Wailers appear from the trees. “Come quietly otherwise we will send you to the Hells!” Still running on fear and power, John stands his ground full ready to take on another perceived threat. *huff, huff....THUD* John collapses as a result of his injuries and fatigue. “Is... is he.... it? dead?” A Wood Wailer pipes up. “If that blood’s his he might be. Get a healer up here but restrain him first!” Cautiously, five Wood Wailers approach the unconscious John. “By the... what is this man? His body looks like... what is that mark?”

But you have Mr. Waits as your avatar, so you're awesome in my book. Scene from Coffee & Cigarettes with Iggy Pop no less!

Wicked. I knew a girl who could hear a song then play it it on the piano. Raw talent is raw talent. Music notes ain't hard to pick up, it's the application that's kicking my butt personally.

*waves arms* That's meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee on the crate! But yeah, a lot of chairs/benches/crates support the "/sit" command. Not all, though. I /sit on a crate in Aleport and it was just a regular /sit as if I was on the ground. Perhaps I didn't just move right or something.

As long as you're not a meanie poopie face, I don't think anyone will turn you down. 8-)

START LEARNING TODAY! As we speak, I am working my way through the Selbina theme. I consider myself completely self-taught (other than Youtube vids).

Nothing says you can't pick them back up and play! (unless they were rented >.>

I'm not learned in the ways of lore as I'm a n00b to XIV, but I've done a good bit of homework. I'm also a seasoned RPer, I'd like to think. If you need a mentor, you need a JJ! Server: Gilgamesh Name: John Silversheath OR JUST PM me here or skype: John.d.spiegel

My XIV character is an adaptation of my (first RP character, like only long-term one) XI Hume of the same name: John Spiegel So obviously if I'm adapting an old character to XIV, I'd probably pick the race/clan closest to him, hence Highlander! As you can read in the recent thread about naming conventions, I Highlander-iffied JJ's birthname but gonna keep JJ's name JJ's name. He's depicted as a large, towering man covered with scars, bald due to an incident in his late teens and lost his right eye in his early 20s. Father of twins, a widower, lifelong fighter and a wanderer. He occasionally wears a yukata and a pumpkin on his head along with swinging a wooden sword about, loves pinwheels and has a fascination with round fruit that go boom.

My character is a Hyr Highlander named John Spiegel. Since they released the naming conventions a couple months back, I decided to give him a Highlander birthname Jnsyn Silversheath, but sometime during his early years he "changed" his name to John/Johnson Spiegel. Going along with Highlander naming conventions, he's also adopted various surnames through his years from his feats in combat. ICly, JJ really doesn't care what anyone calls him... usually saying "Just JJ is fine!" Nothing says you got to follow any naming conventions. As others have said, if you'd like an IC reason why your character doesn't have a racially-appropriate name, that's cool~! Sorry for double post, but the changing-for-pronunciation-thing is part of of JJ's name change! (also, it wasn't just Asian immigrants, folks from Slovakia, Poland, Russia.... Europe in general also had their names "Americanized"!)

Hello and welcome! You've got quite the repertoire, RP and RL! You'll feel at home here I'm sure. I'm no newbie to RP, but a newbie to XIV myself. The ARR Beta has been amazing because SOMUCHSTUFF!

JJ would be a bloodhound or a beagle (trackdogs) for his relentlessness.

Hello and welcome! Old Sylphie here. Johnson/Johnspiegel or JJ as I was nicknamed. I joined the RP scene of old Crystalline in '04. Your name isn't familiar, but I've forgot a lot of stuff since I left XI in '08 for good. Paper Army and Sylvestra were two of the earlier RPLSs if I recall. Someone around here's got a better memory than I do! Anyways, welcome again~

While I see voice chat being useful for end-game-y stuff, I voted "no". Back in FFXI, we got a Ventrilo thing together and like six of us used it a lot and no one else did. As a result, we kind of polarized the shell since the non-ventriloers didn't get in on our commentary or general BS-ing. We also ended up diluting the RP because we were just chatting so much OOCly. Eventually, we just kind of nixed the Ventrilo altogether.

With our powers combined.... we are.... TRICLOPSE!

Hey, I know y'all said this is a "meet and greet and practice character thing" but for clarification, I can say that whatever I end up doing is non-cannon cause I'm trying to fine-tune/figure my character out, right? I'm nervous about not hitting where I want a particular character of mine to be and have that be the "norm". Example: I've been toying around with various accents/amount of accentation in the small 1-on-1 rp I've done. I came to an agreement that a couple things (speech, some minor aspects, etc) were not final and embedded into "lore" when the game goes live. I'm happy with that because from RP event 1 to RP event "X", I've tweeked a fair bit to the point that discrepancies would arise if the previous encounters were taken to heart word-for-word. TL;DR = Is this even pretty much non-cannon?
-
You will do just fine (unless you count squashing a Shippu when you first get scared). It is natural to be nervous when going into anything. Just realize we all have been there and are always willing to help you out. Also, JJ's much taller AND has an eyepatch (gotta pull the tall-card, Ship. *bro-eye-less-fist*)

Anyone that plays the harp is OK in my book because: 3XoR5oHdhZM HARPO~

Depending how my Saturday works, I will try to blow in. Though it does say "character practice" I do hope that there isn't going to be some sort of canon aspect to this because I'm still working out the nitty gritty. If I remember, I'd try to get a non-JJ character there though that's actually JJ's starting location this round of beta.

JJ, having adventured most of his life, eats pretty much anything. You ain't picky when you're lost in the wilderness. Bigs (big or small), fish, vegetation, things on meat-haunches (big or small)... He, of course, favors large plates of meat. But he's not beyond hanging out in a fruit tree all day nomming on fruits. Overall he's an opportunist.
