I fully embrace the classic Woolseyisms like "you spoony bard" and "son of a submariner!" If I'm playing a Final Fantasy, I'm going to be referential to other Final Fantasy games. It's hard with fantasy cursing, though, because you can very easily sound like you're just baby talking the whole time. Battlestar Galactica rode the line with "frak" where sometimes it sounded natural and totally in place, but in some contexts it sounded ridiculous. But if we can come up with some cool sounding curses that we can make sound awesome, I'm all about that. Personally, I tend to use blasphemies over actual curses. In FFXI, I'd have a character say something like "Altana's tits, that's disgusting!" We've got twelve awesome gods to blaspheme. I'm pretty sure that's more than enough to be creative with.

Between your choice of music, and your Leon signature, I think I just developed a small crush on you.

Coming in to a thread where OP has given little information and making a broad statement like "revenge is cliche" strikes me as something to get defensive about. It's basically poo-pooing OP's premise before you even have information from him. A more helpful response would be "Could you please elaborate on what you mean when you say revenge, because I'm afraid it could be done badly." This kind of response signifies that you actually want to help OP and the community. Saying "revenge is cliche" right out the gate just reminds everyone that opinions are like assholes, and some people get off on shoving them in other people's faces.

Yes, usually I have a "soundtrack" for my characters that can be any number of songs that fit. I just posted one for the sake of brevity and discussion. I didn't want to bog anyone down with a thousand songs to listen to.

I know I"m not the only one who uses music to get into character, and looks for songs that I like that "feel" like the character to me. I'm curious about what yours are. For Dogberry, his song would be "Blood and Thunder" by Mastodon. v-Su1YXQYek I still can't think of anything for Reinbach. She's a tricky one.

AGGRO! I still haven't gotten over Shadow of the Colossus. Losing that horse hit me HARD. I'm planning on naming mine Cassius. Playing a character who's more or less a boxer, it's only natural I pay homage to The Greatest. You're the first person that instantly linked the name correctly to the horse of Shadow of the colossus O_O! Usually people think I took it from the term mob agro lol. And yeah that scene gave quite an impact. Simply because you basically travelled everywhere with the horse and a bond formed between the player and the horse. He was your only companion in that game, through vast empty landscapes, and he was with you through everything, and when that horse died, I was absolutely determined to kill that last Colossus. People talk about crying when Aeris died, but I was an absolute WRECK when that game killed my horse.

I'm really only posting because I love hurdy gurdys. I've done the pricing on an electric hurdy gurdy. The result is much more than I can afford, but I would love to have one. Even a normal gurdy is too rich for me, but to add pickups and a pre-amp puts it way out of my price range. It's a shame, because I have some effects pedals that I think would sound amazing with a hurdy gurdy. Wah pedals, chorus, flanger... I could do so much weird stuff. Dogberry knows a bunch of sea shanties, having been a sailor, but he hasn't picked up much actual musical skill. Being a harpooner meant he would be in charge of his rowing crew, which might at times include beating out measure for them to row to, so if anything Dogberry would be drawn to percussion instruments. Reinbach, however, I could see picking up the concertina. QTTZYsXTXq0 If possible, she'd use magic to make it play for her, because she's an incredible show off.

I love the idea of this linkshell as a secret society. It's perfect for my alt, as well.

My life won't be complete until...
Dogberry replied to Aeiteil Strand's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
That is absolutely amazing. I'm currently in the process of organizing a LARP taking place in the 1860's, and this was just perfect for what I want to see happening. -
For Dogberry, his heraldry would likely be a spear with some kind of cloud or lightning bolt to signify the sky. Himalspyr translates from Roegadyn to "heaven spear". He comes from a long line of harpooners and lancers. His family motto is "Truth is in things, not in words." As for my alt, Reinbach, who needs heraldry when you've got a wicked pirate flag? Her house motto is "Fortune favors the bold."

The audience stamped their feet and beat their chests raw inwild bloodthirsty cries that rang in Dogberry's ears like the taunting cry of savages before an unholy feast. No. Mustn't lose focus. You can win this. Dogberry gathered his wits. The other Roegadyn in the ring, an old aqcuaintance named Gazgul now turned mortal enemy for tonight's paltry purse, squared up on Dogberry, and lifted his giant fists to guard his face. His opponent smirked a challenge at him. "Just like the docks back in the day, eh, Dog?" heasked, in a thick Lominsan growl. "Not exactly," Dogberry said, raising his fists toreturn the challenge. The bell rang and both men circled each other, looking for aweakness. Gaz lashed out first and connected with Dogberry's jaw. He barely flinched at the jab. Dogberry tookthe opportunity to place a one-two combo on to Gazgul's body. As he stepped in, Gazgul clinched Dogberry in with a great bear hug, trying to squeeze the air out of him. The referee cried foul, but in reality he wasn't there to enforce the rules so much as end the fight before either man died. A left hook to the temple loosend Gazgul's grip and Dogberry was able to get some distance between himself and his opponent. The crowd began a steady, rhythmic chant. Dogberry for amoment found himself somewhere else. The salt of the ocean on the air, and the crash of the waves against his boat almost sent him reeling. He remembered tapping out a beat on the bottom of the boat as his men rowed toward the beast. "Put your backs into it, you bastards!" Dogberry remembered shouting. "This... thing is just another trophy on our walls!" A punch rocked Dogberry's abdomen, sending him back to reality. Gazgul didn't relent, and delivered a flurry of blows that pushed Dogberry to the side of the cage. Dogberry's only escape was to land a headbutt that connected on the bridge of Gazgul's nose. Gazgul staggered back, his nose bleeding heavily. The crowd roared, and the referee complained once more, but his cry was overtaken by the crowd. It brought him back to the sea, speeding toward the giant beast rising in the water. The beasts cries mimic'd the combined calls for blood he was hearing now. Dogberry remembered raising his spear. It felt so good in his hands, like it was a part of him. He reached back and let it fly. As he let it go, he caught a glimpse of the moon. He could feel the beast rising up from under him. In him.Something about that moon He felt it, cold and ominous, washing over him. And then nothing. The referee raised Dogberry's hand, and he snapped back to reality. He looked down at Gazgul's twitching body on the floor. For a brief moment, Dogberry pondered the memory of five years ago, and the present he was living now, and wondered which one he would rather be living.

Being a sailor, Dogberry has had a lot of experience with people. Still, Lalafell kind of perplex him. He basically sees them as glorified moogles. That's not to say he wouldn't respect a showing a strength from one. It's just going to take a lot for Dogberry to realize that a Lalafell is a person just like he is. He might come off as condescending without realizing or meaning it.

I play Guitar and mandolin. Much more mandolin than guitar lately, but I've been getting back into the blues lately, and it's encouraging me to start learning slide guitar. I've also done some experimenting with a washtub bass. I'm going to have to build another one sometime soon.

I'm definitely in on this idea. I'm not entirely sure which craft my character will take up, but I'll definitely want to be a part of the ELU.
-
Your character looks almost EXACTLY like my Shepard in Mass Effect. Holy crap.

My alt character, Reinbach. Who is this mysterious Thaumaturge?! I'm pretty sure she thinks she's Mary Tyler Moore.
