It's really up to your character, and how they feel about it, but she could call on several of the gods if she wanted. Menphina, Halone, maybe even Nymeia for luck if she were so enclined. The gods aren't really jealous like that, it seems. Also, you can stun sharks by bopping them on the nose. Of course, only the brave and the skilled should even attempt such a thing.

NEW PLAYER INCOMING EVERYBODY DUCK AND COVER! Hahaha! Hi!

I god damn love AC: Black Flag. It's like Assassin's Creed had a baby with Sid Meier's Pirates. The freedom to just sail anywhere and take pirates, or hunt sharks, or dive for treasure while doing missions is amazing. Frankly, I think the plot works better in this game than other AC games because the history gives us actual leeway to do what whatever they want. The AC games bothered me when they did things like put Leonardo DaVinci in a different city than where he was historically at the time for no reason, or set the Boston Tea Party IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY. Also, the non-historical aspects are entirely optional so I can just pretend that the characters I've never given a damn about in the AC series don't exist. I've always hated the modern plotline. I've always wished that the AC games were just straight up historicals. This looks about as close to that as we'll ever get.

Eva, Merri, Time Skippers: I have a book recommendation for all of you! There's a fantastic book called The Forever War by Joe Haldeman. It's a military science fiction book about a drafted soldier getting sent off to fight a war in space, but due to time dilation caused by near light speed travel what feels like a single tour of duty to him is actually about 20 years. When he returns home, the world has completely left him behind. Joe Haldeman is a Vietnam veteran who used to book to describe the way he felt after returning home. Even though he hated the war, he signed up for multiple tours of duty because at least the war was familiar to him. When he came home, there was just nothing left for him. Anyway, it's a fantastic book (one of my favorite of all time), and could be a great source of inspiration for the current path of your characters. As for trauma for Dogberry, he hasn't had very much aside from what's in his backstory. This has been a time of rebuilding for him after the Calamity basically changed his life, and took his self-worth with it. He's grown back a ton of his confidence and is ready to move on from that chapter in his life. Certainly life will throw several large monkey wrenches into his plans, but so far, things are looking up for Dogberry.

SUCH A BRAT! Wouldn't have it any other way, though. As always, your lines are amazing, and the flat colors remind me of old advertisements.

I'm good friends with Rhi, the master (mistress?) of the linkshell. I'll ask her about it tonight. Hi, Riza! I'll probably see you around!

Syldra's Revenge is just getting started.

Even though I've been neglecting him for my main, I do think a lot about my alt, Fresh Bread. This is more or less his "theme song". This one fits as well.

Dogberry = (Queeg-queg/Captain Ahab)Brock Samson + Marv from Sin City^Hellboy+Batou Basically, I took the idea of an broken sailor from an "exotic" race that people rarely encounter and have a ton of misconceptions about (which I anticipated male Roegadyn to be) looking for something like revenge (Queeg-queg/Ahab), added on a layer of "bro" with a soft side I could play for laughs (Brock Samson), shoved in Marv from Sin City to give him a layer of emotional turmoil and confusion, and put in Hellboy for a sense of duty and a bit of an "average joe down on his luck" attitude in spite of his sometimes frightening demeanor. Throw in Batou from Ghost in the Shell for an emphasis on martial prowess, and you've got Dogberry. He's basically a play on all of the "big guy" archetypes you see in media while hopefully still managing to be more than the sum of those parts. The "big guy" is an archetype that often goes unexplored as a character. While often played sympathetically and even at times heroically, they are very rarely fully realized characters. I could go on about this further, but I'll spare you all.

Yes! I actually really liked FFV, and Syldra was one of my favorite parts. I just want to update and say we are actively recruiting! We're working with the linkshell Broken Chairs to organize an event where we buy and build Syldra's Revenge. More on that to come!

November is going to be an expensive month for me, I can tell. Dogberry want that leatherbound book that lets him bend reality to his will! Down with the technocracy! As above, so below! The Order of Hermes shall be strong once more!

Oh look, a White Wolf thread with an argument. I'm not a mod, but I'm going to ask for the hostility in this thread to GTFO. Everybody just take a deep breath and drop whatever quibbles you have with each other right now and let's just continue on topic. So I'm a bit out of the loop, has White Wolf said anything about the complete edition of Mage: the Ascension? I'd love to get my greedy little paws on a copy of that.

Every moral man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. - H.L. Mencken Syldra's Revenge There is an ancient proverb that as long as there is sea there will be pirates. Piracy, for better or for worse, is a longstanding tradition, and is not going anywhere any time soon. To some we are bloodthirsty criminals, a blight on society and an affront to law an order. To others, we are captains of free enterprise, and the only means by which some can receive the goods the more affluent take for granted. So which are we really? It is not up to us to make such judgments, only to act as we see fit and answer our own individual callings in life. It is with this in mind that the Syldra's Revenge welcomes all those who call themselves "pirate". As long as there is sea, we will be here, offering shelter and assistance to our kind. Pirates, Scallywags, Cutthroats, and Thieves, all are welcome. Still, we do not exist in a vacuum, and recognize that though we are not part of the city-states , the city-states face threats that jeopardize us all. As such, Syldra's Revenge asks that its members follow these general guidelines: 1. A Garlean prize is better than an Eorzean prize. 2. Make any and all Primal activity known. Beyond that, we give each member total autonomy over their actions. We are not the law, and we are certainly not your mother. If you wish to join our brotherhood, seek out Dogberry Himalspyr or Unseen Harbor. If you wish to sail aboard the Syldra's Revenge proper, inquire with Dogberry himself.

I am a Mage; the Ascension dork. Love that game, and love the philosophy around consensus based reality. In my current game, I play a member of the Order of Hermes who is essentially becoming The Doctor. I also run a Hunter: the Reckoning game that meets every now and then. I am so mean to my players. I cut my teeth on Vampire: the Masquerade waaaaaay back in the day, when I was but a young pup. Never got into Werewolf or Changeling in oWoD. For New WoD, I just can't get behind Vampire or Mage. Well, I say that, but if someone started a New Wave Requiem game I'd jump in faster than you can say "Radical!" I tried to get into Geist: the Sin-Eaters, but the core book is an absolute mess, and with such little support I find the game to be absolutely unplayable. I disavow that Hunter: the Vigil even exists. The only nWoD game that I even like is Changeling: the Lost. Man, let me tell you about that game. I got so into Changeling: the Lost it was kind of scary. I can't play it anymore. The whole premise of Changeling: the Lost is a great metaphor for what life is like for victims of abuse. As someone with PTSD, Changeling: the Lost was essentially a road map to my damage. I loved the game. Finally, it felt like there were other people who understood what I went through, and I was glad to have the game as a way of expressing and explaining myself. But, it got to the point where playing the game just wasn't healthy anymore. I couldn't keep opening the same old wound for the sake of fun. It had in fact stopped being fun after a while, and I just had to quit the game. I gave an out in the narrative, and haven't gone back. Fun game, really. Just... damn.

I've been kicking around the idea of starting a piratical LS, but wanted to come around to it ICly first. It seems there is a noticable lack of pure scallywaggery, however, which I think needs to be plugged. I do have a linkshell made already for it, called Syldra's Revenge. It is an homage to the dragon from Final Fantasy V that saved Faris and then pulled her pirate ship so that they could still sail when the wind died. So I take it this is my mandate, then. I've seen enough threads about it that maybe now it's time to just go ahead and do it. I'll do the write ups. If you want a pearl, I'm Dogberry Himalspyr in game.

Should gamers be accountable for in-game war crimes?

If governments aren't being held accountable for war crimes anymore, why should people playing video games? -
balmung The Grindstone - Saturdays at 10 PM EST (9 PM Central)
Dogberry replied to YesGood's topic in Roleplay Events
Gonna try to make it tonight, but 10 PM is a little late for me to be starting something on a weeknight. No guarantees. -
Hah! I play a roegadyn because I wish I was taller and (more) muscular. I don't know about you all, but I don't want to play a character like myself, but someone I think it'd be cool to be. (Dunno what that says about me that I like playing beastman races.) Yeah, I do that a lot. I just didn't this time.

Rhuarc is also a male Roegadyn! Big, manly, paladin tank, don't see why its not the most prominent race. Most likely because they look ridiculous - their proportions are very off and typically the 'big' races tend to be designed to appeal to the sort of player that enjoys overcompensating. It was the same with orcs and tauren in WoW - very few people played them and yet many of those that did seemed to think that 'dey da best lol so much biger an strong den every1 else lol xDDDD'. Masculinity is also not linked directly to size, especially when excessive proportions are concerned. I don't really think that's a fair assessment. I like Roegadyns because I'm a big dude, and I love being big. I want to play a character that's big like me. Is liking my body type overcompensation? I think for the most part, all the races have proportions that are "off". Even Hyurs, where I can play a man with ape arms or a woman made almost entirely of legs. Some people just see them all differently, I guess. And, if anything, I think I've singlehandedly bent the idea of Roegadyn male machismo over my knee and given it a spanking. Dogberry very much values his masculinity, but he is nothing if not in touch with his feminine side, beyond just wearing pastel shirts and sewing clothes. And now back to the females. Y'alls ladies is fly. Keep being awesome.

Yes, it is. Source: I watched an episode of Strike Witches.
