  1. I've always wanted to do this, but haven't been able to get a group together to do it.
  2. Are you there, Llymlaen? It's me, Dogberry. Such a peaceful sleeper.
  3. Yeah, SE's done us no favors with that. There are still people (and I'm among them) that don't count the Lightning event as canon. It's not that it's automatically a bad character angle, it's that it's so often done in the worst possible way. There are people out there that just won't give you the chance. Like you, I believe that you should RP about what's fun for the people involved, and the haters can just not get involved and do their own thing, and certainly in a perfect world that would be the case. Like I said, nothing's going to stop you from playing the character you want to play exactly how you want to play them. Given the stigma that a dimension-hopping character has, though, my concern is that you might not find the community as welcoming as you might hope. That said, we have all manner of character based on others. My own character has a menagerie of characters in other media that inform him and have inspired me to play him. Few here would consider that controversial. I really do wish you the best and hope you have a blast RPing in FFXIV! If you see me around, feel free to say hi!
  4. Looking over the list, one of my alts, Iskierka Stormspeaker, is the zany witch type. I've described her in the past as "Morrigan meets Lina Inverse." She's much more of a hedge witch than your standard arcanist, but she does see the allure of civilization's creature comforts.
  5. Hi, Lio, and welcome to the RPC and the Final Fantasy XIV community. I hope that you're able to find welcoming, like-minded people with which to RP. I feel like I should warn you though, that most of us who RP in Final Fantasy XIV like to RP with people playing characters from Eorzea, and not pre-existing characters from manga or anime. Your character concept may be met with some derision, and if you're comfortable with that, and want to take that concept and run with it I don't think anyone here is capable of stopping you, but they sure are capable of blacklisting you. I fear that by playing this character you may be limiting the amount of people willing to RP with you. Again, if your heart's set on it, by all means, go ahead. Maybe there are people out there who won't mind. But I know for a fact that many will. Also, if I'm not already "that guy", then this will probably solidify my place in "that guy"-dom. It's spelled cannibal.
  6. There with bells on. I love a good beach party.
  7. They laughed at my pink shirt. I laughed at their cries for mercy.
  8. I'm terribly sorry that this happened in your thread, Rythulian. Feel free to look me up if you have any questions. If I don't know the answer, I can at least hopefully direct you to someone who can. And if you want to RP, I'm down with that, too. My character follows a code of hospitality and always makes it a point to be kind to strangers.
  9. WAIT DOES THIS MEAN BLUE SKIES HIT RANK 6 AND I MISSED IT?! AAAAAAAAAAAH!
  10. The game plays very much like Magic: The Gathering with the trademarks filed off. Not that that's a bad thing. I like the changes they've made to the formula a lot, specifically with making the ability to block attacks a monster trait and the 1 mana per turn growth curve adds a lot of interesting strategic scenarios. I've been having a lot of fun with the game. I was worried about playing against total strangers, too, since who knows what kind of insults would be hurled at me from anonymous strangers, and I just frankly didn't want to deal with it. Fortunately, the only interaction you have with your opponent is the game itself. You see their name and what they're doing and that's really it. It's not that different from playing against the computer other than that I can actually win against the computer. I really, really like Hearthstone. Once I figure out how to play with friends I'll post my information and you can hit me up for a game anytime. It's a really refreshing card game, especially since I'm also learning to play Netrunner right now, and sometimes playing that feels like I'm in a Mithchell and Webb Numberwang sketch.
  11. Ahoy and avast, me hearty! Welcome to the forums and the wide world of MMO role play! If ye have any questions I and me fellow mates here are happy to answer them for ye. I see you're on Gilgamesh! If piracy be your game, then I'm told there be a right bunch of scallywags in those seas for ye to pal around with. Scoundrels and rogues every last one of 'em. Y'know, the best kind of folk.
  12. FFXI Blue Mage, sure, middle eastern and scimitars, but if you look at other FF's it could be anything. Look at Gau, Strago, Quina, Quistis, and Khimari. Nothing at all in common except that they could learn enemy attacks. No common weapons or anything. And here we've already got a class that studies animals. Hmm.
  13. OK for Pugilist, hear me out on this one, because it's kind of crazy. Blue Mage. Think about it. You've got three stances already based on animals. Opo-opo, Raptor, and Coeurl stance. The whole class is dependent on the way those stances interplay with each other to keep Greased Lightning going. There's even an entire martial art based on mimicking the Coeurl. Why not expand on that and make Blue Mage a part of the Pugilist track?
  14. Yeah, I had a lot of fun in FFXI, but even then I had a hard time doing anything AND holding down a career. Now my career's ramping up, I'm married, and it's only a short matter of time before I'm a dad. I can't imagine ever playing another old school MMO ever again. The kind that requires groups that take an hour just to get started, and three more if you want to progress through anything. I'm glad they exist, and they can be a lot of fun if you have the time to play them, but I look at these games like the weekend long D&D sessions I used to do every weekend. The kind of fun you get to have when you don't have as many obligations in life.
  15. How much would you charge if I were to ask you to design a pirate flag for me?
  16. If you'd like, I can recruit you into the FC on a trial basis and we can work out a time for us all to meet up ICly.
  17. Glad to be a part of this. I'll want an invite to the FC next time we're both online. I'd like a meet up and discuss world domination plans.
  18. I'm big into the occult, too. Like reading Aleister Crowley and John Dee for fun kinda into it. I don't believe in any of it at all, but to me it reads like an RPG setting book without any crunch, and I like that a lot. I read stuff like the Corpus Hermeticum, and whatever biblical apocrypha I can find, too. In fact, my big gripe with much of modern supernatural fiction is that it ignores so much of this material that is out there and so cool, but instead makes up its own stuff that just ends up sounding contrived compared to the "real" thing. Like, if you're going to make a thing about angels and demons, there's a wealth of existing information about them in legitimate resources used by respected theologians that might actually add some gravitas to your story because let's face it even if you don't believe in it the Abrahamic religions have an interesting mythology to them. But no, go ahead and name your angels after norse gods and Herman Mellville protagonists, and make up choirs of angels based on greek mythology. Wow, that kind of became a rant, didn't it? I'm also a big Lovecraft fan and play Delta Green, Call of Cthulhu, and Cthulhutech quite a bit.
  19. Looks interesting. I think I'll check it out. I'm leaning toward the Illuminati.
  20. Dear Styrseig, The old man tells me you put in some work on the sails for Syldra's Revenge. I wanted to thank you for that. I know the last time we spoke it was not exactly the most comfortable thing for either of us. The craftsmanship of those sails tells me you put in a lot of long hours on them, and I know it's more than I deserve. After the calamity, I just wasn't the same person anymore. I was selfish, I admit. You were right about me the whole time. I wish that I could have done things differently. I wouldn't have disappeared and left you and dad with mom. But the truth of the matter is that I can't change what I did. I can only change the way I act from now on, and I want to be there. I put dad up in a place in Aleport. He gets his needs taken care of from the first of my profits. I'm not saying this to impress your or anything. I just want you to know what's happening. I'm trying. I want to us to be family again. I hope you'll write back, and tell me how you're doing. How's your husband and that nephew of mine? Sincerely, Dagh _________ Dagh, I have to make a confession. I sometimes wish you were a warrior of light. Then it would be easier to have just forgotten you. I think a lot about when we were younger, and how you and Grei were constantly competing over the stupidest stuff, and how close we all were. We didn't just lose Grei in the calamity, we lost you, too. I always wonder where my brother is, even when I know he's sleeping on some beach, surfing his mornings away. He's not the brother I remember. The brother I know is still lost at sea somewhere. Good thing that I hear you're running around calling yourself Dogberry Himalspyr now. That's the most respectful thing you could have possibly done for Daghbheri Himalspyrsyn. Daghbheri is the brother I know, and you don't deserve his name. The Daghbheri I remember would never have left us alone like that. Selfish doesn't begin to cover it. Try cowardly. Try cold-hearted. Daghbheri was none of these things, but I see them in you in spades. I made those sails for you because I want you to travel far and fast. I want you to go out and find my brother. Bring him home to me. Then finally the family will be together again. - Styrseig __________ Dear Styrseig, I will find him or die trying. Sincerely, Dog
  21. This katamari... it's so tiny. Really, is this the best you could do? Huh... Is this a dragon? I guess it will have to do. For now.
  22. Oh my glob, all these precious babies. I feel like an old man.
