  1. Oryn's face fell a bit when he heard Luralel's only brief acquaintance with Ul'dah. It had been a long time since he had seen his extended family, and he hoped all was well in their part of the world. To the question at hand posed by the small woman, he shook his head regretfully. "I apologize, but I've never heard of this Nanapriri or their shop.. but then, we do get a lot of merchants passing through around here." As he paused to take a drink of his wine, Oryn overheard "..at the very least there isn't a lawyer... that is of some solace to me," from the large man who had entered so interestingly a few moments before. Glancing uncomfortably, Oryn sunk lower into his chair and attempted a wan smile at his tablemates, and was inwardly relieved when Yecely answered the newcomer's question.
  2. Oryn finished a few bites of sandwich and looked with sudden interest at Luralel. "Ul'dah eh? I've got family out there. I'm Oryn, by the way. Tell me, how is it back east? It's been nearly two years since I ventured out that way."
  3. Haha I second the affection for Whiskeyjack. Fantastic character, Varov. Personally, I feel almost like I should have skipped this first RP session. I jumped in anyway because I've been wanting to RP, but Oryn ended up being quieter than I intended. He's just been standing around eating a sandwich and watching everyone talk basically lol. So.. yeah I guess I can just write it off as him being tired or something, but it wasn't quite the first impression I wanted to make with the character. I am really enjoying seeing everyone else's characters interact though! It was pretty unexpected to see so many unique and colorful characters for a game that isn't even in beta yet. It really illustrates what a great creative group we have.
  4. Having finally procured a glass of wine and a small sandwich from the bar, Oryn glanced back at the small group WhiskeyJack had amassed around him. The man is like a celestial orb ... pulling in smaller planets, Oryn thought to himself. Well, the man had given him a large sum for books and had more or less hired his services as a legal adviser.. he may as well find out what this was all about. Gathering up his books and deftly balancing the sandwich on top, Oryn picked up the wine with the other hand and moved over to the table where Two-Patch was holding court, trying to pick up on the others' names. He winced visibly as yet another burly man burst through the door, but relaxed slightly when he saw the newcomer was not evidently part of Two-Patch's entourage.
  5. Oryn stood at the table, mouth agape and looking for all the world like someone had just slapped him across the face with a cold sea eel. He stared down at the goods voucher, then back up to Two-Patch, but the Roegadyn was already chatting up a lady across the room. Smoothing out his hair with one hand, Oryn pocketed the voucher with the other and glanced about. There were an awful lot of women, all casting glances at one another. It made Oryn a bit uncomfortable, after being made such an inadvertent spectacle of by Whiskeyjack. Still, he mustered his pride, straightened out his jacket, and gave a dignified nod to the two Hyur woman who seemed to be staring the most as he strode to the bar--opposite side from Whiskeyjack--and tried to get the barkeep's attention.
  6. There was an uncomfortable pause after Two-Patch's words that caused Oryn's face to turn an embarrassing color of crimson. He could feel his heart screaming to get out of his chest as it rapidly sent adrenaline through his veins. He began picking up his books into a neat stack to mask any trembling. It wasn't that he was a coward; Limsa-Lominsa's streets were full of tough old salts, and half seemed to be shipmates of Oryn's sister. He was used to that enough. But Two-Patch did not seem like your average sea-trash to wash ashore, get stinking drunk, and make inappropriate passes at the more gentile local-women. Not to mention that he was big. And loud. And Oryn doubted very much that the merchant would ever need his services in a court of law. The bugger is more likely to defend himself, and sell half the jury trinkets and baubles while he's at it, he thought to himself. "No-now see here, Mister Jack," the Hyur said, willing his voice to sound confident. "I'm afraid you've caught me flagrante delicto of attempting to enjoy a nice glass of port with this book which, hmm let me see, yes it does indeed happen to be the twelfth edition--good man for knowing it--and while I'm certain your weapons would be the excruciatingly best at ha ha cutting through red tape, I really must decline as I prefer the quill to do my fighting for me. I happen to be writing something of a treatise on local life, Thal willing. And if you like, Mister Jack, if you like, I shall personally pen an inscription to you, good man, on the frontispiece of a copy, once the text is completed, bound, and back from the printers. But for now, I beg you the graces of the Twelve celestials and ask to be left to enjoy my lunch in the aetherial bliss of solitude." Oryn gave his best smile, which inevitably ended up as a wry grin somehow (no matter how many times he practiced in a mirror trying to give beaming lawyer-ly smiles instead), and keeping his face fixed at Two-Patch, glanced around the room from the corner of his eyes looking for potential allies and escape routes.
  7. With a practiced rhythm, Oryn moved through the throngs of Limsa-Lominsans, keeping track of feet with his peripheral vision, his attention was primarily fixed on scanning the first pages of a new book: "The Art of Legal Debate." Three more leatherbound tomes were wedged underneath one arm, a few more were secured in a satchel across his back. A grumbling in his stomach caused the studious Hyur to alter his course towards the Drowning Wench. Fortunately for Oryn, the booming voice of Two-Patch caused him to look up just in time to avoid running smack in to the Roegadyn's back. Maneuvering deftly out of the way, he slid in to the bar behind the large Sea Wolf and found himself an unoccupied table to unload his stack of books and signal the barkeep, breathing a sigh of relief at avoiding the collision. He knew of Two-Patch by reputation alone, and had no desire to make a personal acquaintance.

    BETA!!

Cool, I'm restarting and making Oryn Dintwoodie (my toon for our Limsa-Lominsa RP) so I may or may not see you tonight, depending on what servers we end up on Are you on the IRC channel for beta? And yeah testing starts tonight @ 6pm PST
  9. Wow some of those are fantastic, good finds!
  10. I am playing "write as many papers as you can for class!" It's pretty exciting.. lol Seriously though, after I take my last final of the term next week I am planning on finally finishing Mass Effect 2 and probably picking up whatever all the expansions there are for Dragon Age. I don't have Awakening yet, so that + whatever else has been released for it.

    BETA!!

Congrats!! I'm on the tester boards as Aveline I will see you next week! P.S.: Have you tried logging in today? It seems some new testers are able to login now
  12. I think I will probably have a secondary character based in Gridania just because I know I will miss the Windurst-like atmosphere. I think I would like Limsa-Lominsa more if there were actually trees in the city. :3
  13. Yeah I'm surprised at how popular Ul'dah is, but it really does have a lot of things going for it as cities go My FFXI character Niami would have been based in Limsa-Lominsa for sure though. Mhauran-born pirate bard that she was.
  14. Now that we have some info on all three, I'm super curious about where everyone's preferences lie. Personally, I'm 100% Ul'dah.
  15. I agree with Kes, it feels like option one should be merged in to option 2 for well-rounded examples. (Since out-of-game journals tend to be popular, it seems like Option 1 would be a crucial example to have for new players)
  16. Yeah I've got multiple sizes based around the same design up there, I used that one as more like a prototype poster. The version I'm using on the TALE site is thinner. Can't wait to see yours at the meeting!
  17. I had to go back and look at the Dunesfolk description.. that is really interesting actually! Their houses are on top of mounts.. I wonder if we will have race-specific player house styles this time, instead of nation-specific mog houses. Totally. I didn't buy the Celestial Steed for the same reason.. it just feels cheap. The chocobo raising, while the result was excellent, it just took way too long and too much personal time spent doing tedious tasks. (I stared at an egg 100 times, my button pressing skill went up by .2! Oh boy.. 10 minutes of cut scenes spent taking walks! Every day!)
  18. Thanks You're free to use it however you want! Also, good call about the move, I completely forgot we had a gallery section lol.
  19. Hahahaha.. brilliant. In all seriousness.. I'm kind of hoping they stick with the multi-colored chocobos for riding myself. I was sooo hooked on chocobo breeding in XI. It took me ages of yellow reject birds, but I eventually ended up with a nice pair of first class digging greens (one male one female) and a very speedy red. (I had a black one too, but it's stats were nothing particularly good). It would be nice to have that level of customization with mounts again (though hopefully not with the 60 days of daily maintenance to go with it...)
  20. I'll throw my vote in for Aguacatin's design.
  21. So WoW just released a mount that players can purchase for $25 called the Celestial Steed and is making a fortune off of it, 4.4 million in the first 2 hours it was released. Arguments about whether or not a subscription-based MMO should charge for in-game items aside, we are talking about a pegasus made out of stars here. That you can RIDE ON. So, I had a moment of glee, basking in the thought of my lovely Bladesong soaring among the jungles and deserts on a pegasus made out of the fabric of space and I thought... what kind of mounts will we see in XIV? What do you guys want to see? Simple yellow chocobos? A rainbow of chocobos that we can raise with different stats a la XI? Horses? Different mounts all together? S-E has been pretty secretive about how chocobos are going to work in XIV. We've all seen the stabled chocobo in the Alpha demo video, but when pressed about what chocobos will be for, the devs say they're still thinking about it. So what do you guys think?
  22. Well, I was on a GIMP kick so I gave it a go. This isn't an official logo or anything, just something I put together to make a site badge.
  23. I've been doing a little housekeeping on the TALE website and it occurred to me that it would be nice to have a little membership badge/link somewhere that shows that TALE is a member of the RPC (with a link back to the RPC site). Then it occurred to me that maybe others would like the same, so I'm curious what you guys think. Related thought: does the RPC have a logo of any kind?
  24. Just so you know.. the months you chose from are not just moons, there are moon months and sun months to choose from when selecting your nameday. At least, that is what a little bird told me. *whistles innocently*
