  1. In case anyone's interested about Gilgamesh (decided to stay on me ol' realm after all), I've found myself an apartment there no problem. I won't give you any exact numbers (at work and bored atm ), but Gilgamesh player should not have trouble getting themselves an apartment. Quality, non-closed to outsiders RP, on the other hand...
  2. Thank you. I'll allow myself to ask you guys the same question again once I'm almost back online.
  3. I consider returning to the game next month, and would like to know if I should prepare myself for every single apartment already being taken. P.S. I'm talking about Balmung server.
  4. The eerie silence of a response is promising. One more reason for me to seriously consider moving to Balmung, I guess.
  5. Gilgamesh, and feeling kinda lonely among all the Balmung ads, yes. Anyway, me and my sort-of-kind-of friend're considering returning to FFXIV after two months of a break from the game. Our characters are a couple; she's a miqo'te pugilist, native of Ul'dah, enjoying sun, tuna and helping people for money, and I am a highlander paladin (highlander bestlander, rawr) from Gyr Abania, in Eorzea to polish his fighting skills and taste new tobacco mixes. We (well, I haven't talked with her abou it yet, but I imagine she'll agree ) would like to have some role playing company when we play. We enjoy playing the game "normally", or role playing just between the two of us, but it would be nice to at least sometimes have a chance to mingle, to go on a large adventure in company and then spend all the riches we found on ale and wenches (or wenchmen, whatever). Be it a whole Free Company or a bunch of random folks, doesn't matter much. We don't overly care about your character's attitude, as long as they aren't evil. Only thing we dislike, from experience, are cliques. Perso-anally I hate joining a guild and then realizing that I'll always play second fiddle to a Circle that'll never allow me in, or will downright make me not want to join them anyway.
  6. There is one thing I don't understand about the upcoming apartments - can I or can I not invite other players to my apartment? I do not mean making them co-owners of the place, just allowing them to hang out in my apartment whether or not (or, at least, only when) I am inside.
  7. I may poke you at some point! Right now I have a friend to play with and a feshly-joined Free Company, so my hands are full.
  8. In that case I pride myself on, along with my friend, propagating an open-world RP on Gilgamesh. When we don't do quests in silence, we do them in characters.
  9. Pay 18 bucks? Server transfer? Maintenance? *is confused*
  10. Thanks, guys! Now I have only one last question. Balmung seems to be very crowded - my friend's been trying to log in for two days now, and was always informed that the server is full. Perhaps it's because of the realm, maybe she was unlucky, I don't know. Question is, what would be the second best RP server to play on? I'd rather go to Balmung and possibly meet most of you guys, but if I can't, I can't.
  11. Hey again! After... quite a bit of time spent not playing FF XIV, I've decided to actually give it a go. Gonna buy the game in a couple days and play it with my friend. That means I have to refresh my knowledge of the game, hence why I'll allow myself to repeat the questions I've had for you guys before, and perhaps add one or two new ones. It'd be shiny if you could help me out by answering them. I. Perhaps the most important, which server to play on? What I need from a server is a large RP community, with a large number of European players From what I gathered so far, Balmung is the place to go. Am I right? Balmung would be best since, for some reason, my friend cannot join EU servers, US only, although that server seems to be quite clogged, so that may be a problem II. Where can I find as much info on game's lore as possible? http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/646-Lore have more info, but it's basically either copy-past from the wiki or players' deductions based on the game, ergo, no solid facts that aren't already on the wiki. Is there more to be found, or is that it (not that I would mind. I've played WoW - I had enough of lore the size of Harry Potter saga)? III. Now a bit more specific questions about my idea for my main character. We could do a bit of a brainstorming over this one if you feel like it . Anyway, beta version of the idea is this - a Hyur Highlander named Guy Tower (duh). A young lad in his mid twenties, Guy has spent his life in a cold city of Ala Mhigo. After Garlean Empire's invasion seized the land, Guy joined the resistance. Years passed and resistance's valiant struggle changed little. Eventually Uncle, Guy's only relative he knows, sends the lad to Eorza after making him swear that, one day, when he grows in strenght, he will return to his homeland and help reclaim it for the nation of Ala Mhigo. Coming from a family of warrior defenders, always there on the front line, he felt an inclination to travel to Ul'dah and see if the school of Gladiators can teach him something new. Story as any other. There's room for a bit of drama, but who needs it. Most importantly, it creates the character I want to play. Rash, fight loving, tough around the edges but basically good-hearted. Most importantly young and new to his surroundings, open for changes and influence. But, character's story will go as it will go, that's not what I'd like you to help me with. - As mentioned, I'll roll a Gladiator, taking a Paladin job in the future. Question is, how can I explain Guy having Paladin skills (items are easy) without making him another member of the Sultansword (I heard that is a cheesy thing to do)? Are there other organizations that train their members in blade and shield? Will the "self-learned" excuse pass? - Are there any particular kinks towards playing a Highlander Hyur? So far, I understand that they are basically a more warlike, less rafined Midlanders, but there is surely more to it (the joke about Roegadyn mother was nice, hehe). IV. Is there any housing in this game? I'm aware of guild houses, but I would like something more private, some kind of inn room or other small crib to call my own, possibly invite other people in when I feel like it.
  12. I don't have any information like that, only a question on my own. Actual robotics and AI seem to be a debatable matter in FFXIV, but what about prosthetics? Arms, legs, eyes, noses (...what?). Such possibilities, if they exist, may be good to know for a combatant adventurer.
  13. Lets let that one slide, and I will pick up the slack in the future. But thanks for the offer.
  14. Eh heh, I actually wanted to put it into a spoiler tag at first, but then I saw all the spaces that copy-pasting text here omits, and thought "nuh-uh, ain't nobody got time for that".
  15. Mwahahahaha, this site is great! I have a friend who works on ae 3D printer... who knows, perhaps I'll ask him to make me a figure. [/img]
  16. I have barely ever wrote down anything about my characters, certainly never making any wiki pages on them, but seeing this topic I wonder whether or not I should. This leads me to a question - why are you taking up the task? For yourselves, so you can always read up on your characters and avoid getting lost/confusing one with another (sort of a database)? For others, so they can do so? For others but actually for yourself, so you can show off, "look at me, I am such a big role playa"? Little bit of any of the above, or for something else? I am wondering whether people are doing their character's wiki pages to put their cyber stories on paper, line them up and arrange so they, the players, can easily check them up and find what they need, or is it just plain haughtiness. Me, If I ever do it, it will be a little against me. I always thought, and still do, that other people's characters should get to know one another in-game, that such "meta-RP" is as unfair as, say, graphic novels and books on World of Warcraft - they add to the lore, but irritate those who do not have the time/means to read them. If I'll decide to make wiki pages on my chars, it will be because of its usefulness as a database and a little, tiny bit of vanity, so often found between us role players. P.S. I will have no shame and ask you to check out my "Character's biography - Alpha version" post. Continue being as helpful as you were before, and tell me if everything's alright with the story or does it have any particular holes/inconsistencies. I've already found one . P.S2. Ye gods, the "tongue" emote on this forum looks very, very derpy!
  17. Nobody's interested with giving me a hand with this? The "biography" is short, if you don't like reading other people's pages long bullcrap, and not as badly written as I presented it. Actually, if I had the time to polish it (I do not), I wouldn't feel awkward showing it at all. If nobody feels like it, I'll ask the mod to delete the post, cough awkwardly and pretend the topic was never here.
  18. My character doesn't yet exist, but... Sloth Bear! A kind of bear that, when it doesn't walk around, look tough and eat other animals (or berries), spends whole day sleeping on a tree branch looking cute.
  19. Hello again! It will be a few months before I get to play A Realm Reborn, but as some of you noticed, I'm already preparing for that joy, mostly by learning as much as I can about the lore and figuring out my main character. I figured it's a nifty idea to put the, well, idea for my character on the paper - and that it's an even better idea to do so in public, so that you, better wersed in ARR's lore, can make corrections and suggestions if needed. I'm aware of the existence of the "Hundred questions" sheet, but I also want to dust off my writing skills, as low as they are. Therefore, I will put together a little story about Guy's past, trying to fill it with information about him. Ready to read some mediocre biography? Lets go! check the attachment for a short, tad over three pages long Word document. Guy Tower.doc
  20. That's always a good thing to do, imho! Human brain enjoys funny, silly things. I am sure that you (whoever it is that bothers to read my scribble) get along easier with funny, chilled out people that can crack a joke and take one with a smile. Same thing goes for characters in role playing, even if it's your character. Back when I was playing Guild Wars 2, my char, Nat Chapel, was a bit of a goof. Whenever it happened, 'twas a refreshing change of pace from his more serious, single-minded stance. Give your character a funny accent (y mean, g've yór char'cter ae funny axe-ent), make his only living relative an old Uncle that used to tell him his war misadventures when he got drunk, make him buy himself a golem pet who, while obeying his master, cracks sarcastic one liners at him... Fun is fun, but drama is also important. Not only can it dramatically (badum-tisch!) push your character's development forward, it also serves as an emotional link between you and that pile of pixels you made. Implement a flaw into your character that can turn a usually random situation around, like make him/her afraid of deep water due to some trauma. Make him lose an arm (and then, later, get him an awesome, FMA/Trigun/Berserk style arm with a cannon! Rawr). Hope that helps . :tonberry:
  21. Solo RP'ing is an interesting idea, one that I've abandoned a while ago but perhaps should return to. Anyway, for me, my main character is always a variation on myself. What or whom would I be if I existed in a fantasy world. It sometimes leads to being a little unhealthily close to what I do as my character, but usually it just strenghtens the immersion. You know, being that guy instead of playing being that guy. Perhaps you'll find such approach to your liking. As for alts, well, I can't help you there, since 90% of my alts are short-lived. Unless I have made up a really interesting story for them to follow, I usually drop them sooner or later.
  22. I won't discover America by saying that you should do whatever you like, as long as you have other people on your mind. Doesn't matter, Aether or anything else - when RP-ing, one needs to always think "Will that be fun not only for me, but for people around me as well?". Perso-anally, I am IC'ly careful around people I haven't befriended, carefully managing my character's ultra powahs so that nobody will cringe. So, yeah, long story short; to me, enough is when it messes with people's fun. :tonberry:
  23. *melts from the overload of cuteness* This thing makes my avatar, at least until I actually play the game and make my old friend draw my character. I'd also like to mention, again, that it's really nice to see ae helpful, non-aggressive community. Oh, I'm sure you people have your moments, but when I think back to my time on LOTRO's forum... uuurgh. Just try naming your guild "Cavaliers" there. I dare you, I double dare you. Or WoW forums, who were fine whenever they weren't trollish. So, yeah, you guys are alright. :tonberry:
  24. Indeed, it scares me a little, but... it's frickin' cute! Aww! Little cute fishmen Jedi with a kitchen knife! *hugs and keeps on hugging - nevermind the stabbing* :tonberry:
  25. My thirst for impractical but ah, so pleasant to gather knowledge drives me towards more questions: I. Is there a general agreement towards can or cannot a character have more than one Job IC'ly? Personally I imagine this shouldn't be a problem, but perhaps community thinks otherwise. Surely it depends - e.g. nobody would believe that a skinny, nerdy Scholar can be a Ninja (debatable, I know!), or that semi-barbaric Highlander Paladin's second life calling is that of a wordy Bard (maybe a Skald... hmm, there's an idea...). II. On a bit more practical side, do separate world "chunks" pose a problem during the role playing? Sort of things like people not seeing those on the other side of the river, due to land there being another region with its own loading bar, or separate general chats? III. How RP-friendly the game is, overall? I have heard that it's quite good, with housing and many armours and clothes to choose from. Are there all the important emotes? Can a PC interact with game's environment, e.g. sit on chairs or smoke hookahs? Are there some good places to role play in the "actual" game world, or is it mostly (that would be very bad for my adventuring character) houses? :tonberry:(No idea what this "smiley" is, but I love it)
