  1. Thank you! Faces are something of a specialty of mine, seems to be the part I get stuck on the longest and enjoy the most. I'm still doing some "research" into how I draw the pretty lady, Understanding her hairstyle in 3d is certainly a challenge, and even just how to represent her and stylize her features is a fun challenge. Here's the results from todays little study stream, one is more of a "comic" type style, as I was trying a full pose without reference (Bad idea) - And abandoned that, before going to more of a life drawing with reference.
  2. EDIT: New additions on every page! -------------- Hello! I'm a designer who took it upon herself to learn illustration because I'd quite like to be able to write and draw my own comic books at some point. To this end I thought I'd start some rather simple and short little "Slice-of-life" comics surrounding my RP character; Lekka. I'll probably update this thread seemingly randomly, depending on when I have inspiration and time to make little doodlies; and it will be entirely ffxiv art, so I won't spam you with my other stuff. :moogle: Here's the first little piece of doodling, lekka in her "Guard" uniform over at AIM headquarters. (Oh and "Tsu" is my artist name)
  3. I'm so glad we all agree Gamergate is a terrible terrible thing. ... As for Dick Wolf. I remember seeing that at the end of random Law and Order episodes, and I don't think I have avoided noticing even once. I mean you're either very funny or very un-funny to go by "Dick Wolf"
  4. This tendency to apply something bad said about "Gamers" to all gamers, or "Men" to all men (remember #notallmen? Well not all men do.) ... Is really quite tiring. There's a huuuuuumongous problem of culture in the game industry at the moment because it seems to have found overlap in the criminal elements and the right wing extremes. Doesn't mean everyone who plays games is bad, but there sure ain't no lack of assholes.
  5. Hey! "The Basics" tend to refer to things like; Line, value, shape, perspective and proportion. Basically how you draw your lines and control of them, value(Very important in painting etc.), shape; important to show objects in 3d, Perspective; just generally important. And proportion, which comes into play a lot with drawing people or animals and the like - We often see immediately if proportions in the face for instance are wrong. Some of the things people do to practice these things are things like Life drawing, Gesture drawing etc. (In a sense it sort of is as simple as drawing a heck of a lot, but focused studies help) Warning: This may not make sense. This is me hastily scribbling to try to figure out your perspective and proportion as it is right now. I think your head is a little large in the original sketch; or the hair is just suuuper big, and honestly I'm not sure about the eyes, I made an attempt though! Thought I'd add the second quick doodle to kind of show how I tend to eye-ball it, these kinds of anatomy Rule-of-thumbs exist all over the net, generally the rule of halves works pretty well for figuring it out, but isn't always true. (Just realised as I'm looking at it that I messed up the height of the head on the lower doodle, but I have a very rough style when I block out proportion and stuff, sorry)
  6. Great that you're learning to draw! I know this gets said a lot to people who want to learn; and it sure as hell ain't easy to really understand... But it is actually very important to learn the fundamentals/basics. The reason for that mostly, is that if you can draw a realistic version of a person, you can definitely play around with their features far more intuitively than you can if you're trying to "copy" something that is already stylized. Copying or lending ways to draw noses, eyes or cars is totally legitimate - But when you do that kind of stuff, repeating from memory afterwards is a great way to find out how you would interpret it. I have been actively drawing for a year and a half, where I did a year of drawing every day, and I still have miles and miles left to go.. But once you get the routine of doing a lot of drawing, and practicing different things, you can get quite far (Also supporting the advice for canvas size. I generally work on A4/B4 sized paper and draw to publish at 25% size. Gives you a lot more flexibility with detailing and resizing.)
  7. Thought I'd post a little note here. I got a pearl for Broken Chairs the other day and they're all lovely people
  8. Mine's a doodlie I did a few months ago now. Thinking now that I am back in the game I'll probably end up drawing Lekka quite a bit more, so it's subject to change. (I'm also considering options for mini-comics involving her as comic-making is my goal for 2015)
  9. Thanks for the welcome you guys. I've had some time to run around on Balmung now and am starting to zero in on a character. It's fun to have found this forum, lots of threads about what people have been doing or what they're planning to do... Always appreciate interesting reading! Hope to meet some of you in Eorzea.
  10. Hello everyone. I'm Lekka! I started playing FFXIV around the middle of last year, but ran out of steam because I was playing it far too much as a progression MMO - too much focus on doing the daily grind and far too little time actually enjoying myself in this beautiful world. Recently I've been having massive nostalgia for the Final fantasy universe, I played FFXI for years and years and since I did enjoy FFXIV, I decided to come back here for another attempt. A far more RP focused and "casual" attempt. - For me that's mostly important because between work and my art I don't really have the time to keep up with progression, and as stated it just burns me out. Previously I have RP'ed fairly extensively in the EVE online universe, if anyone here was familiar with that I was affiliated with various groups, mainly seen around the Guristas RP'ers of VETO but also with friends and connections in Angel space. In EVE I was an "unlawful good" character one supposes, and in FFXIV I currently mostly have a rough idea of how I want to play Lekka.. I'll probably be reading a lot around on this forum and taking a few notes on things I like the idea of before I set anything in stone Oh, but I suppose I can include that I am a Hells guard Roegadyn. Tall lady, blue hair. Main jobs were White mage and Paladin, will probably base her character around one of those jobs unless I have a revelation and get some good new ideas. Will be nice to meet you all.
