  1. I can relate to some of this. I started playing around the same time as you, and have felt similar on occasion. I can only really tell you what I've done and how it's helped me, and hope that it can help you as well. As plenty of people have pointed out, roleplay is a cooperative effort; it's something that requires two sides. I was pondering my lack of roleplay since joining the server, and to be fair, it was slightly depressing. But, because roleplay requires two sides, you need to look at both of them when analyzing what the issue is. For me, I came to the conclusion that I was the issue. My own character wasn't working for me. As much as I liked him in concept, for all the headcanons that I cooked up about him and the history I threw together, he was hard to roleplay. Finding motivation for him to be in particular places (especially RP hotspots) was an issue. Making a topic on the RPC about finding more roleplay helped me tackle this issue. I'm immensely appreciative of the people that saw my topic, replied to it, and then sought me out in game. But, as Nebbs mentioned, I am one of those people that typically say that they're busy and want to roleplay some other time. This had nothing to do with anyone else, but with my own character and my own motivations. Instead of worrying why people didn't want to roleplay with me - which really wasn't the case - I did what I needed to do in order to be more comfortable roleplaying. I re-vamped my character, and now I have one that I can literally stick just about anywhere. It required a race and name change, a whole new history and personality. But character building is part of the fun of roleplaying, and it gave me an opportunity to make a character that's easier to approach people with. If you're into random encounters, honestly, there's no lack of roleplay on this server. The Quicksand is generally full of people. Even when I just brush through it OOC, there's a bunch of people hanging around and interacting with one another. There's almost always several people standing around the outer-railings, and I can guarantee some of them are just as nervous about approaching people, or worried that no one in the room wants to interact with them. My advice is really simple: do what you need to do in order to make yourself happy. Sometimes, that requires some effort. Every so often we need to leave our comfort zones, but it's ultimately rewarding. Switch things up with your character to keep it fresh, join a linkshell, muster up the courage to approach that person sitting on a bench - the one that's probably waiting for someone to approach because they haven't yet found the courage to do it themselves.
  2. Thanks for all of the responses! (And thanks to Nick for bumping the topic for me in a timely fashion, what a friend!) I'll do my best to try and get in contact with some of you when I can. Admittedly I've been consumed the last few days in leveling another job and finally catching up my character to make sure he's ready for Heavensward, but I'm all set and ready now. If you happen to see me in-game or online, feel free to whisper me. Even if you don't feel like RPing, I'm always up for making new friends! I wish! It's actually a commission I received from one of my favorite artists on tumblr, they can be found here.
  3. Hello! After doing a considerable amount of loitering around on this forum, I figured it was time to make a post of my own. I'm relatively new to FFXIV, and I'm hoping by posting this I might be able to drum up some new connections - whether it be friends to hang around with OOC, or new connections IC for my character, V'yaron Tia. I've realized that I don't RP in the game nearly as much as I'd like to, and I'm hoping to remedy that shortly. Things that I'm potentially looking for: Past connections: Who says every new friend really needs to be 'new'? An old friend, a former business partner or crewmate, or a past fling? I'm very flexible and willing to work with someone who would like to RP, but also have issues that many encounter when characters meet for the first time. Current/Future connections: V'yaron is always looking for friends and associates! He's mostly found roaming between Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa, though he's in Gridania on occasion to see his younger brother. Have a love of the open sea or require a job done that involves traversing from one place to the next by water? Talk to him! Looking for a new acquaintance or drinking buddy? Yaya is always up for conversation, so long as you can understand his horrid accent. I wouldn't consider myself a 'heavy roleplayer' and do spend time OOC in the game, but I am completely willing to plot with others and work out stories to foster future roleplay. While I'd prefer to stay in the free company that I'm in with a few friends, I am willing to join linkshells! My wiki page and tumblr are both in links in my signature. Feel free to contact me on here, on tumblr, or in-game on V'yaron Tia! Even if you're not so much interested in roleplaying, I am always up for making new acquaintances in game to join me on OOC adventures like dungeons, etc etc.
  4. http://i.imgur.com/fzsFyTo.jpg[/img] V'yaron Tia is a 26 year old Seeker of the Sun that resides in Limsa Lominsa. He's been a privateer and occasional mercenary for years now, and does a great deal of traveling between La Noscea and Thanalan. Despite hailing from the deserts of Southern Thanalan, most of his immediate family now lives at their place of business in Mist. He's a feisty, enigmatic Miqo'te with a certain charm to him despite generally being quite a poor influence on most that he encounters. But, he's fiercely loyal to those he trusts! That counts for something, right? He loves traveling, meeting new people, and occasionally drinking himself into a stupor.
  5. Here's a commision I just recently got of my paladin, T'yrus Tia, done by tinybirdfriend.tumblr.com
  6. This seems like a really neat idea! I might have to find a reason for one my characters to get involved.
  7. I. Basic Info Characters: V'yaron Tia Primary character: V'yaron Tia Linkshells: KITTY Social, Trapshell Primary RP linkshell: N/A II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I would consider myself a medium roleplayer. Between real life obligations and other interests in the game, I basically intend to roleplay whenever I have the time/motivation to do so. I do enjoy other OOC/social aspects, and wouldn't consider myself IC all the time. Views on RP combat and injuries: I enjoy combat RP, moreso when I'm able to communicate with the person that I'm writing it with. I think writing out a combat scene with someone can be a great deal of fun, as long as both parties are at an understanding. I have no issue taking injuries IC, but I'm not so interested in drastic outcomes like loss of limbs or character death - and I wouldn't expect that outcome from anyone else that doesn't wish it. Views on IC romance: IC romance is neat, and slice-of-life roleplay is always interesting. If I had the choice, I would always RP within a small group of people or with just one person as opposed to attending big events. If my character happens to find another that they're compatible with, I wouldn't have a problem with it, so long as the individual understands that IC is IC and OOC is OOC. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): As it stands, my character already has several IC family ties (both parents are played characters, as well as three brothers). My character has done a fair deal of traveling since journeying from his tribe upon hitting adulthood, and I would welcome anyone that's interested in setting up a prior connection with him - whether it be personal, professional, or otherwise. Doing so removes a lot of the anxiety people have with characters meeting for the first time. Views on lore: I think the lore in this game is very cool. With that said, I am pretty new to the game itself and don't have much of a history with the Final Fantasy franchise. I've done my due diligence to try and catch myself up, but would welcome anyone that's interested in talking about lore - I think knowing the finer details of the game allows an individual to go further in-depth with their character. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I generally use /em and /say for roleplay. Both of the linkshells I'm currently in are OOC with friends of mine that I know from another game. I'm not opposed to using /party for private roleplay, but generally keep private tells OOC. I've not yet used /shout, and don't really plan on it for IC or OOC reasons - but in the event that I did, it would likely be for some reason IC. III. Other Info Country: USA Timezone:EST Contact info: Probably the easiest way to currently contact me is to whisper me in-game. I can also be messaged at seekingthedawn.tumblr.com, but be warned that there's very little content on it that relates to the game itself (but it's SFW).

    Hello!

Thanks for the welcome! I am slowly but surely catching on with most of the lore and figuring out my character. Perhaps I'll see some of you soon!

    Hello!

I signed up a few days ago, and thought it was about time I say hello! While I'm not new to roleplaying, I am a brand spankin' new player to FFXIV, and to the roleplaying community here. I am a long time WoW player and finally picked up FFXIV after being convinced by a good friend of mine - and I have to say that I'm really enjoying myself so far. I would consider myself a casual roleplayer at the moment while I level up my first character. Once I hit 50, though, I am interested in diving into the roleplaying community - and that means making friends! Feel free to shoot a message in-game (V'yaron Tia) for a friendly chat. I welcome new friends, and would love for some tips on how to get into the roleplaying community on Balmung in order to make connections - or even advice on how to make my gameplay experience more enjoyable from a veteran player's perspective.
