For me, it's hit and miss. In theory, I would love to use minions more ICly but I run into the problem of forgetting they exist 90% of the time. So I'll go the span of a hot minute with a character having a pet and loving on it, to two months down the line going 'oh right, I hope that kitten's okay'. That said, I'll happily continue to gather up minions until I/my character snaps and just opens a menagerie.

I had luck right at the end of maintenence, so 4:30 am EST. From what I gathered, it stayed open for another hour, maybe hour and a half, longer. I could be mistaken on that, though.

You might also be able to get just before or just after the server goes down for maintenance (though I'm honestly uncertain how frequently maintenance happens). It seemed to be open to making new characters at least a couple of hours once it came back online, though depending on your time zone that's still pretty early. Good luck and don't give up!

Hi there! It's nice to finally post on the forums - I've been holding off creating an account until I was finally able to get a character on Balmung and last night's maintenance was a blessing. I can finally give a warm greeting to all you fine folk that I've been creeping on as a guest. A bit about me! I'm an archaeology major from Canada, and have been RP'ing for about eight years now. I'm relatively new to the FF world, but have been loving learning about the world and lore associated with FF XIV. That said, I'll be playing a Miqo'te Seeker named C'helan Rhel, a food motivated archer with culinary skills that leave something to be desired. As soon as I have some free time, I'll be creating a wiki page for her. I look forward to RP'ing and taking part in community events with all of you!
